Rhizodeposition encompasses the intricate processes through which plants generate organic compounds via photosynthesis, store these compounds within aboveground biomass and roots through top-down transport, and subsequently release this organic matter into the soil. Rhizodeposition represents one of the carbon (C) cycle in soils that can achieve long-term organic C sequestration. This function holds significant implications for mitigating the climate change that partly stems from the greenhouse effect associated with increased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Therefore, it is essential to further understand how the process of rhizodeposition allocates the photosynthetic C that plants create via photosynthesis. While many studies have explored the basic principles of rhizodeposition, along with the associated impact on soil C storage, there is a palpable absence of comprehensive reviews that summarize the various factors influencing this process. This paper compiles and analyzes the literature on plant rhizodeposition to describe how rhizodeposition influences soil C storage. With the development of Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), various complications can be caused. Hyperglycemia affects the microenvironment of cardiomyocytes, changes endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis, triggers unfolding protein response and eventually promotes myocardial apoptosis. However, insulin therapy alone cannot effectively combat the complications caused by T1DM. Forty adult beagles were randomly divided into five groups: control group, diabetes mellitus group, insulin group, insulin combined with NAC group, and NAC group. 24-hour blood glucose, 120-day blood glucose, 120-day body weight, and serum FMN content were observed, furthermore, hematoxylin-eosin staining, Periodic acid Schiff reagent staining, and Sirius red staining of the myocardium were evaluated. The protein expressions of GRP78, ATF6, IRE1, PERK, JNK, CHOP, caspase 3, Bcl2, and Bax were detected. Results of the pathological section of myocardial tissue indicated that insulin combined with NAC therapy could improve myocardial pathological injury and glycogen deposition. Additionally, insulin combined with NAC therapy down-regulates the expression of GRP78, ATF6, IRE1, PERK, JNK, CHOP, caspase3, and Bax. These findings suggest that NAC has a phylactic effect on myocardial injury in beagles with T1DM, and the mechanism may be related to the improvement of endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis., (Copyright © 2024. Purpose: Under the background of the regular implementation of the National Centralized Drug Procurement (NCDP) policy, this study aimed to assess the impacts of the NCDP policy on drug utilization of county-level medical institutions, and probe into the influencing factors of the changes in drug utilization., Method: A pre-post study was applied using inpatient data from a county-level medical institution in Nanjing. Drug utilization behavior of medical institutions of 88 most commonly used policy-related drugs (by generic name, including bid-winning and bid-non-winning brands) was analyzed, and the substitution of bid-winning brands for brand-name drugs after policy intervention was evaluated., Results: After policy intervention, 43.18% of policy-related drugs realized the substitution of bid-winning brands for bid-non-winning brands (6.82% of complete substitution, 36.36% of partial substitution). Meanwhile, 40.90% of policy-related drugs failed to realize brand substitution. Multiple factors affected brand substitution, including: (1) Policy effect: brand substitution was more obvious after the intervention of the first and third round of NCDP. (2) Drug market competition: the greater the price reduction of bid-non-winning brands, the more the drugs for the same indication, the more likely that medical institutions keep using the same brands as they did before policy intervention. (3) Previous drug utilization of medical institutions: brand substitution was more obvious in drugs with large number of prescriptions and weak preference for brand-name drugs., Conclusion: The NCDP policy promoted the substitution of bid-winning brands for bid-non-winning brands. However, the NCDP policy remained to be further implemented in county-level medical institutions. Terbuthylazine (TBA), a triazine herbicide, is extensively employed in agriculture for its wide range of effectiveness. However, prolonged utilization of TBA can pose a potential hazard to animals and human health. Here, a total of 180 broiler chickens (Gallus gallus) were stochastically assigned to three groups (control group, 0.4 mg/kg TBA group, and 4 mg/kg TBA group) for investigating the impact of TBA on cardiotoxicity. The results revealed that TBA exposure resulted in pathological alterations in the myocardium. Moreover, TBA exposure activated cGAS-STING pathway and markedly elevated the mRNA and protein expression levels of innate immune response (cGAS, STING, TBK1, and IRF3) in myocardium. Additionally, NF-κB signal was also activated under TBA exposure, which was characterized by the increasing mRNA expression levels of NF-κB, IKKα and the protein expression levels of p-NF-κB/NF-κB, IKKα, p-IκBα/IκBα in the TBA treatment groups. Meanwhile, the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1β) were also significantly increased. Terbuthylazine (TBA) is one of the most commonly used and effective herbicides. However, due to its affinity for soil organic matter and water solubility, TBA can lead to biological health concerns. This study exposed broilers to TBA (0 mg/kg bw, 0.4 mg/kg bw, 4 mg/kg bw) for 28 days. The results showed significant pathological damage in broiler myocardial tissue, such as widening of the interstitial space, rupture of muscle fibers, and deposition of myocardial collagen fibers. In addition, Under the 0.4 mg/kg bw TBA exposure, myocardial oxidative stress was observed in broilers, which was accompanied by the activation of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and the increased protein and mRNA levels of NQO1, NOX2 and SOD2 antioxidant enzymes. However, Nrf2/HO-1 protein and mRNA levels were reversed at 4 mg/kg bw TBA exposure. Meanwhile, the Nrf2/HO-1 mediated antioxidant defense was impaired. In contrast with the low dose, the protein and gene expression levels of NQO1, NOX2, and SOD2 were reduced in 4 mg/kg bw TBA group. The expression of GPX4 and SLC7A11 was significantly downregulated at both protein and mRNA levels. Beyond that, ACSL4 expression was significantly up-regulated, and the protein result was consistent with the mRNA expression, demonstrating the occurrence of ferroptosis. In general, TBA exposure activated the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, resulting in ferroptosis. Background: Physical exercise has been shown to improve cognitive and motor functions, promoting neurogenesis and demonstrating therapeutic benefits in neurodegenerative disorders. Nonetheless, it is crucial to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which this occurs. The study aimed to investigate and evaluate the effect of swimming exercise on the changes of mitochondrial proteins in the brains of rats with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)., Methods: the vertical pole and Morris water maze tests were used to assess the animals' motor and cognitive functions, and western blot and immunofluorescence of brain tissue were used to assess the biomarkers of mitochondrial apoptosis and cristae stability in response to exercise training. Four groups of rats were used: (1) sham sedentary group (SHAM, NT), (2) sham exercise training group (SHAM, T) (3) hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy sedentary group (HIE, NT), and (4) hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy exercise training group (HIE, T)., Results: animals with HIE showed motor and cognitive deficits, as well as increased apoptotic protein expression. Exercise, on the other hand, improved motor and cognitive functions while also suppressing the expression of apoptotic proteins., Conclusions: By stabilizing the mitochondrial cristae and suppressing the apoptotic cascade, physical exercise provided neuroprotection in hypoxic ischemia-induced brain injury.
