Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the correlation and difference of influencing factors by analyzing the psychological status of patients with cervical precancerous lesions and cancer in Han and Ethnic minorities. So as to provide evidence for more targeted psychological intervention for categories types of patients., Methods: The Chinese version of Kessler 10 scale was used to investigate 200 Han Chinese patients with cervical lesions and 100 ethnic minority patients with cervical lesions in Yunnan Cancer Center. Statistical analysis was performed using t -test, analysis of variance, and multivariable linear regression., Results: There was no significant difference in the distribution of demographic characteristics between the two groups (P > 0.05).The results of univariate analysis showed that the impression of K10 score was statistically significant among the following factors: educational level, awareness of HPV vaccine, disease screening status, employee medical insurance, economic burden of disease, cancerous or not, pathological type, treatment modalities, marital status, and family genetic history of tumor (P < 0.05). After multivariate analysis and considering the influence of the number of independent variables, it indicates that the economic burden of the disease, occupation, and family genetic history of tumor had a greater impact on the total score of Han patients among many factors, accounting for a total of 8.1%(Adj R 2  = 0.081).Treatment modalities had the greatest effect on the scores of ethnic minority patients, accounting for 8.4%(Adj R 2  = 0.084)., Conclusion: The factors affecting the psychological status of patients between the two groups have similarities and differences. Multifactorial analysis showed that the main factors affecting the psychology of Han patients were: economic burden caused by the disease, occupation, and family genetic history of tumor; while the main factors affecting the psychology of minority patients were: treatment modalities. Background: Cervical cancer is the fourth most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death, and it still poses a crippling threat to women's health. China launched the National Cervical Cancer Screening Program for Rural Women in 2009, and an increasing number of cervical cancer patients have been detected. Health-related quality of life is not only the end point of cancer research but is also related to socioeconomic and clinical factors and has received an increasing amount of attention. In light of the characteristics of the Yunnan nationality, we conducted cross-sectional research to assess and explore the health-related quality of life in both Han and ethnic minority patients., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2020 to May 2021 at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming University/Yunnan Cancer Hospital. Patients, including 100 Han patients and 100 ethnic minorities, were interviewed using the FACT-Cx questionnaire within 3 months of receiving treatment., Results: Patients of Han ethnicity and ethnic minorities were comparable in both sociodemographic and clinical features. The total FACT-Cx scores were 139.38 ± 9.83 and 134.39 ± 13.63 in Han and ethnic minority patients, respectively (P < 0.05). Significant differences were shown in physical well-being, emotional well-being and the FACT-Cx subscale between the Han and ethnic minority groups. Independent predictors of the FACT-Cx scale were ethnicity, educational level, participation in the National Cervical Cancer Screening Program for Rural Areas (NCCSPRA) and clinical stage., Conclusions: The results of our study imply that the HRQOL of Han patients is better than that of ethnic minority patients. Thus, clinicians and related health workers should pay more attention to the HRQOL of cervical cancer patients, especially for ethnic minority patients, and provide psychosocial interventions as much as possible to improve their HRQOL. Policies should also aim to strengthen health education regarding cervical cancer and expand the coverage of the NCCSPRA among those who are ethnic minorities, are older and have low educational levels., (© 2023. Background: As patients with cervical cancer and precancerous lesions can be diagnosed at early stage and live longer, it is imperative to understand their health-related quality of life so that better cancer-related policies could be promoted and reasonable distribution of limited resources could be implemented. We conducted a cross-sectional study in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University to assess the health-related quality of life in our targeted population. Due to the characteristics of Yunnan nationality, our study population includes both Han people and ethnic minorities., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2019 to December 2020, and 300 patients were selected, who were initially diagnosed with cervical cancer and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) pathologically. EQ-5D questionnaire was used to evaluate their quality of life., Results: Patients in Han and ethnic minorities showed good comparability. EQ-5D VAS score was statistically significant between Han and ethnic minorities (mean, 85.42 vs. 81.01; P<0.05). EQ-5D utility score was slightly different but without statistical significance between the two groups (mean, 0.959 vs. 0.932; P>0.05). Nationality, economic trouble, menopause status and participation of China National Cervical Cancer Screening Program (CNCCSP) are influencing factors of HRQoL among women with cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Besides, we also found low awareness in the CNCCSP and human papilloma virus vaccine, as well as low participation in the national screening program., Conclusion: The results of our study imply that the difference of HRQoL does exist between Han people and ethnic minorities with cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Health providers and health-related departments need to invest more health and financial resources to expand the awareness and participation of the screening project. More efforts should be made in underdeveloped minority areas to assure the accessibility of health resources and interventions. Objectives: Pancreatic cancer patients often have a high symptom burden, significantly impairing patients' quality of life (QOL). Nevertheless, there are hardly any reports on the impact of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on the QOL of treated patients. For the first time, this study evaluated the effect of HIFU on QOL and compared these results in two European centers., Methods: Eighty patients with advanced pancreatic cancer underwent HIFU (50 in Germany, 30 in Bulgaria). Clinical assessment included evaluation of QOL and symptoms using the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire at baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months after HIFU. Pain intensity was additionally evaluated with the numerical rating score (NRS)., Results: Compared to baseline, global health significantly improved 3 and 6 months after HIFU treatment (p = 0.02). Functional subscales including physical, emotional, and social functioning were considerably improved at 6 months (p = 0.02, p = 0.01, and p = 0.01, respectively) as were leading symptom pain (p = 0.04 at 6 months), fatigue (p = 0.03 at 3 and p = 0.01 at 6 months), and appetite loss (p = 0.01 at 6 months). Moreover, pain intensity measured by NRS revealed effective and strong pain relief at all time points (p < 0.001). Reported effects were independent of tumor stage, metastatic status, and country of treatment., Conclusions: This study showed that HIFU represents an effective treatment option of advanced pancreatic cancer improving QOL by increasing global health and mitigation of physical complaints with a low rate of side effects, independent of the examiner. We present a physically-based approach for simulating makeup in face images. The key idea is to decompose the face image into intrinsic image layers - namely albedo, diffuse shading, and specular highlights - which are each differently affected by cosmetics, and then manipulate each layer according to corresponding models of reflectance. Accurate intrinsic image decompositions for faces are obtained with the help of human face priors, including statistics on skin reflectance and facial geometry. The intrinsic image layers are then transformed in appearance according to measured optical properties of cosmetics and proposed adaptations of physically-based reflectance models. With this approach, realistic results are generated in a manner that preserves the personal appearance features and lighting conditions of the target face while not requiring detailed geometric and reflectance measurements. We demonstrate this technique on various forms of cosmetics including foundation, blush, lipstick, and eye shadow. Results on both images and videos exhibit a close approximation to ground truth and compare favorably to existing techniques.

F-box only protein 8 (FBX8), as a critical component of the SKP1-CUL1-F-box (SCF) E3 ubiquitin ligases, has been associated with several malignancies through interacting with a member of proteins. However, the substrates of FBX8 for destruction in the progression of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) need to be explored. Here, we show that loss of FBX8 accelerates chemical-induced colon tumorigenesis. FBX8 directly targets GSTP1 for ubiquitin-mediated proteasome degradation in CRC. GSTP1 promotes the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of CRC cells. Furthermore, GSTP1 is upregulated in CRC tissue samples and predicts poor prognosis of CRC patients. The inactivation of FBX8 negatively correlated with increased levels and stability of GSTP1 in clinical CRC tissues and FBX8 knockout transgenic mice. These findings identify a novel ubiquitination pathway as FBX8-GSTP1 axis that regulates the progression of CRC, which might be a potential prognostic biomarker for CRC patients.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) with high-level microsatellite instability (MSI-H) tends to be associated with a better response to programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) blockade than does microsatellite stable CRC. However, emerging evidence makes the use of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) as a biomarker problematic. Here, we sought to characterize the interactions between PD-L1 expression and the response to PD-1 blockade therapy in BALB/c mice with a subcutaneous tumor challenge. We further focused on interferon gamma (IFNγ)-induced PD-L1 expression in an in vitro setting to evaluate the responsiveness to IFNγ exposure and the specific signaling of PD-1 in HCT116 and SW480 cell lines. In this study, enhanced PD-L1 expression increased survival in CT26 cells, and PD-1 blockade increased the CTL profile and apoptotic cells in mice with CRC. Our in vitro findings showed that PD-L1 expression was significantly upregulated by a low-dose IFNγ treatment, and the MSI-H cell line might exhibit hyperresponsiveness to IFNγ exposure partly through the JAK-STAT pathway. These results suggest that intrinsic PD-L1 in cooperation with extrinsic IFNγ exposure in CRC may be more responsive to anti-PD-1 therapy, mainly through the CTL profile in the tumor microenvironment.

Background: Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has been reported to promote tumour metastases. However the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether DEX promotes tumour metastasis by inducing myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) in the context of surgery., Methods: DEX was given to lung cancer patients and its effects on expansion of monocytic MDSC (M-MDSC) were studied in the context of surgery. Spontaneous tumour metastasis was induced in C57BL/6 mice and the effects of DEX on M-MDSC expansion and metastasis formation were assessed., Results: DEX increased CD11b + CD33 + HLA-DR - CD14 + M-MDSC in lung cancer patients after thoractomy. DEX-induced M-MDSC, in addition to have immunosuppressive activity, were more efficient in producing VEGF. Expansion of M-MDSC by DEX involved α 2 -adrenergic receptor. Using an experimental tumour metastasis mouse model, we demonstrated that the numbers of metastases on lung surface and CD11b + Ly6C high Ly6G - M-MDSC during postoperative period were enhanced in DEX-treated mice. Promotion of tumour metastasis by DEX-induced M-MDSC involved VEGF, a key factor for tumour angiogenesis., Conclusions: DEX induces the proliferation of M-MDSC during postoperative period in lung cancer patients and this cell population is qualified with potent proangiogenic ability. Treatment of mice with DEX expands M-MDSC and promotes tumour metastasis through the increasing production of VEGF.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical usefulness of the microbubble contrast agent SonoVue in enhancing high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of adenomyosis., Methods: A total of 102 patients with adenomyosis, assessed from August 2015 to April 2017, were randomly divided into 1-minute (A) and 10-minute (B) groups, respectively. In groups A and B, HIFU started 1 minute and 10 minutes, respectively, after SonoVue injection. All patients underwent a magnetic resonance imaging scan before and after HIFU treatment., Results: The occurrence rates of massive gray scale change, nonperfused volume, and fractional ablation were similar in both groups (P > .05). Meanwhile, sonication time to massive gray scale change was reduced in group A compared with group B (P < .05). In addition, mean power, total energy, and energy efficiency factor were lower in group A than group B (all P < .05). The incidence rates of most perioperative and all postoperative adverse events were similar in both groups (P > .05). The incidence rates of pain in the treated region, leg pain, and sciatic or buttock pain during HIFU were substantially lower in group A than group B (P < .05)., Conclusions: Overall, starting HIFU sonication at 1 minute after SonoVue injection enhances HIFU ablation by cavitation and heating and is safe. Purposes: In the present study, we investigated whether flurbiprofen axetil (FA) alleviates hypoxemia during one-lung ventilation (OLV) by reducing the pulmonary shunt/total perfusion (Q s/Q t) ratio, and examined the relationship between the Q s/Q t ratio and the thromboxane B2 (TXB2)/6-keto-prostaglandin F1α (6-K-PGF1α) ratio., Methods: Sixty patients undergoing esophageal resection for carcinoma were randomly assigned to groups F and C (n = 30 for each group). FA and placebo were administered i.v. 15 min before skin incision in groups F and C, respectively. The partial pressure of arterial oxygen (PaO2) was measured and the Q s/Q t ratio was calculated. Serum TXB2, 6-K-PGF1α, and endothelin (ET) were measured by radioimmunoassay. The relationship between TXB2/6-K-PGF1α and Q s/Q t was investigated., Results: Compared with group C, PaO2 was higher and the Q s/Q t ratio was lower during OLV in group F (P < 0.05). After treatment with FA, both serum TXB2 and 6-K-PGF1α decreased significantly (P < 0.05) but the TXB2/6-K-PGF1α ratio increased significantly (P < 0.01). Increases in the TXB2/6-K-PGF1α ratio were correlated with reductions in the Q s/Q t ratio during OLV in group F (r = -0.766, P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in serum ET between groups F and C., Conclusions: Treatment with FA reduced the Q s/Q t ratio and further increased the PaO2 level during OLV, possibly due to upregulation of the vasoactive agent TXB2/6-K-PGF1α ratio.

We present style-aware image cloning, a novel image editing approach for artworks, which allows users to seamlessly insert any photorealistic or artificial objects into an artwork to create a new image that shares the same artistic style with the original artwork. To this end, a real-time image transfer algorithm is developed to stylize the cloned object according to a distance metric based on the artistic styles and semantic information. Several interactive functions, such as layering, shadowing, semantic labeling, and direction field editing, are provided to enhance the harmonization of the composite image. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare BLADE diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with single-shot echo planar imaging (EPI) DWI on the aspects of feasibility of imaging the sellar region and image quality., Methods: A total of 3 healthy volunteers and 52 patients with suspected lesions in the sellar region were included in this prospective intra-individual study. All exams were performed at 3.0T with a BLADE DWI sequence and a standard single-shot EP-DWI sequence. Phantom measurements were performed to measure the objective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Two radiologists rated the image quality according to the visualisation of the internal carotid arteries, optic chiasm, pituitary stalk, pituitary gland and lesion, and the overall image quality. One radiologist measured lesion sizes for detecting their relationship with the image score., Results: The SNR in BLADE DWI sequence showed no significant difference from the single-shot EPI sequence (P>0.05). To study the influence of brominated furanones on the formation of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) biofilm on PVC thus providing new avenues of research on the surface modification of materials and clinical treatment of biomaterial-centered infection. Three brominated furanones (furanone-1, furanone-2, and furanone-3) were coated on the surface of PVC material. Both the modified PVC materials and SA were co-cultivated together. To assess the thickness of bacterial biofilm and bacterium colony unit area on PVC materials, confocal laser scanning microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to observe the surface structure of SA biofilm formation. All treatments were compared with the control group which was not coated with furanones. PVC materials coated with furanone-1 had an increase in bacterial biofilm as well as SA colony area when compared with control. However, there was no significant difference between treating with furanone-1 and furanone-3 (P > 0.05). The impact of different brominated furanones on SA biofilm formation on the surface of PVC materials is different, furanone-1 can promote the SA biofilm formation on the surface of PVC material.

Purpose: To examine the analgesic effect of preoperative administration of flurbiprofen axetil and that of postoperative administration of a combination of flurbiprofen axetil and fentanyl, as well as perioperative plasma β-endorphin (β-EP) levels in patients undergoing esophagectomy., Methods: Forty-five patients were randomly divided into three groups: group A: 100 mg flurbiprofen axetil preoperative, 10 μg/kg fentanyl + 10 ml placebo postoperative; group B: 100 mg flurbiprofen axetil preoperative, 10 μg/kg fentanyl + 100 mg flurbiprofen axetil postoperative; group C: 10 ml placebo preoperative, 10 μg/kg fentanyl + 10 ml placebo postoperative. Postoperative analgesia was achieved by intravenous infusion containing flurbiprofen axetil and/or fentanyl at 2.0 ml/h (total volume, 100 ml) using infusion pumps. The β-EP was measured at preanesthesia (T(1)), the end of surgery (T(2)), 24 h (T(3)), and 48 h (T(4)) after surgery. Visual analog scale scores (VAS) at T3, T4 (at rest), and rescue analgesic tramadol requirement was recorded., Results: The VAS of group B was significantly lower than group A and C (P < 0.01) at T(3) and T(4). The β-EP levels at T(2)-T(4) in group A did not differ significantly from those at T(1) (P > 0.05); however, the β-EP levels in group B at T(3)-T(4) increased significantly (P < 0.05), while those in group C increased at T(2) and decreased at T(4) (P < 0.05). The β-EP levels in group B at T(3) and T(4) were the highest as compared to its levels in groups A and C (P < 0.01). Tramadol consumption in group B was significantly lower than in groups A and C (P < 0.01)., Conclusion: These results show that flurbiprofen axetil enhances the analgesic effect of fentanyl associated with increase in β-EP levels.

We present the first parallel surface reconstruction algorithm that runs entirely on the GPU. Like existing implicit surface reconstruction methods, our algorithm first builds an octree for the given set of oriented points, then computes an implicit function over the space of the octree, and finally extracts an isosurface as a watertight triangle mesh. A key component of our algorithm is a novel technique for octree construction on the GPU. This technique builds octrees in real time and uses level-order traversals to exploit the fine-grained parallelism of the GPU. Moreover, the technique produces octrees that provide fast access to the neighborhood information of each octree node, which is critical for fast GPU surface reconstruction. With an octree so constructed, our GPU algorithm performs Poisson surface reconstruction, which produces high-quality surfaces through a global optimization. Given a set of 500 K points, our algorithm runs at the rate of about five frames per second, which is over two orders of magnitude faster than previous CPU algorithms. To demonstrate the potential of our algorithm, we propose a user-guided surface reconstruction technique which reduces the topological ambiguity and improves reconstruction results for imperfect scan data. We also show how to use our algorithm to perform on-the-fly conversion from dynamic point clouds to surfaces as well as to reconstruct fluid surfaces for real-time fluid simulation.

Recent GPU algorithms for constructing spatial hierarchies have achieved promising performance for moderately complex models by using the breadth-first search (BFS) construction order. While being able to exploit the massive parallelism on the GPU, the BFS order also consumes excessive GPU memory, which becomes a serious issue for interactive applications involving very complex models with more than a few million triangles. In this paper, we propose to use the partial breadth-first search (PBFS) construction order to control memory consumption while maximizing performance. We apply the PBFS order to two hierarchy construction algorithms. The first algorithm is for kd-trees that automatically balances between the level of parallelism and intermediate memory usage. With PBFS, peak memory consumption during construction can be efficiently controlled without costly CPU-GPU data transfer. We also develop memory allocation strategies to effectively limit memory fragmentation. The resulting algorithm scales well with GPU memory and constructs kd-trees of models with millions of triangles at interactive rates on GPUs with 1 GB memory. Compared with existing algorithms, our algorithm is an order of magnitude more scalable for a given GPU memory bound. The second algorithm is for out-of-core bounding volume hierarchy (BVH) construction for very large scenes based on the PBFS construction order. At each iteration, all constructed nodes are dumped to the CPU memory, and the GPU memory is freed for the next iteration's use. In this way, the algorithm is able to build trees that are too large to be stored in the GPU memory. Experiments show that our algorithm can construct BVHs for scenes with up to 20 M triangles, several times larger than previous GPU algorithms.

Penehyclidine (PHCD) has been proposed to reduce lung and lethal toxicity. The present study was undertaken to investigate the mechanisms responsible for the protective effect of PHCD against acute lung injury (ALI) in rats. Tail-vein injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 5 mg kg(-1)) was used to induce ALI in rats. Secondary increases in total protein, lactate dehydrogenase activity in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and myeloperoxidase in lung tissue were used to evaluate the effects of PHCD on ALI in rats. Activated DNA binding activity and expression of nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) in lung tissue were measured using electrophoretic mobility shift assays assay and immunohistological staining. Levels and mRNA expression of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Pretreatment with PHCD (0.03 mg kg(-1), 0.1 mg kg(-1) and 0.3 mg kg(-1) i.p.) significantly attenuated the LPS-induced changes in lung injury parameters and inhibited the activation and expression of NF-kappaB in lung tissue. Furthermore, PHCD also substantially reduced the LPS-induced TNF-alpha and IL-1beta mRNA expression and production in lung tissue and suppressed neutrophil recruitment. The results suggest that PHCD attenuates LPS-induced acute lung responses through inhibition of NF-kappaB activation and LPS-induced TNF-alpha and IL-1beta production and resulting neutrophil recruitment associated with acute lung inflammation and injury. PHCD may be a useful adjuvant to treatment strategies targeting clinical situations of acute inflammation.
