Hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) has good clinical efficacy in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, its efficacy varies. This review summarized the ability of various markers to predict the efficacy of HAIC and provided a reference for clinical applications. As of October 25, 2023, 51 articles have been retrieved based on keyword predictions and HAIC. Sixteen eligible articles were selected for inclusion in this study. Comprehensive literature analysis found that methods used to predict the efficacy of HAIC include serological testing, gene testing, and imaging testing. The above indicators and their combined forms showed excellent predictive effects in retrospective studies. Heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) are involved in the regulation of plant growth and development. Furthermore, HSFs regulate the expression of a series of genes related to various abiotic stress adaptations. HSFs usually form homotrimers to activate their transcriptional activity and function. Here, we review the basic structure, subcellular localization, transcriptional regulation, functional diversity of HSFs, and their roles in plant adaptation to abiotic stresses, such as extreme temperature, salinity, drought, strong light and oxidative stress, etc . HSFs are high-quality candidate genes for improving the resistance of higher plants to multiple stresses. Studies of HSFs have important application value. In the future, using HSFs to improve the resistance of various crops through genetic engineering would be prospects of development.

Chemical fertilizers can supply essential nutrients to crops increasing their yield, however, they can also cause serious environmental problems. Biofertilizer has received more and more attention because of its environmentally friendly and pollution-free characteristics. Haloxylon ammodendron, a desert succulent shrub, has become an important plant species for vegetation restoration in several deserts in China because of its strong drought tolerance. Its extensive root systems and unique rhizosphere bacterial community aid H. ammodendron adapt to this extreme environment. In this study, Bacillus sp. WM13-24 and Pseudomonas sp. M30-35 isolated from the rhizosphere of H. ammodendron in our previous study and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GB03 and Sinorhizobium meliloti ACCC17578 as well-studied beneficial strains were used to prepare two types of biofertilizer, WM13-24 biofertilizer containing Bacillus sp. WM13-24 and integrated biofertilizer containing all the four strains. Results presented here showed that WM13-24 biofertilizer and the integrated biofertilizer improved chili plant growth, fruit yield and quality and the rhizosphere soil nitrogen content, enzyme activities, and the quantity and biodiversity of viable bacteria. Compared to the control, WM13-24 biofertilizer and a commercial biofertilizer, the integrated biofertilizer performed best in significantly increasing plant height, stem diameter, leaf length and width, chlorophyll content, fruit yield, soluble sugar content, ascorbic acid content, organic acid content, soil urease activity, catalase activity and the quantity and biodiversity of viable bacteria. This study provided a theoretical and practical basis for large scale development of integrated biofertilizers using beneficial rhizobacterial strains from the desert plant rhizosphere.

A salt-tolerant, Gram-negative, rod-shaped and yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated strain AY-3R T , was isolated from rhizosphere soil of a desert xerophyte, Haloxylon ammodendron , sampled at Badain Jaran Desert, Alxa region, Inner Mongolia, PR China. Growth of this strain was observed at 20-42 °C (optimum, 28-30 °C), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 6.0-7.0) and at 0-8 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3 %). Results of phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain AY-3R T was a member of the genus Altererythrobacter , with the highest similarity to Altererythrobacter aerophilus Ery1 T (97.6 %), followed by Altererythrobacter xinjiangensis S3-63 T (96.9 %). The predominant fatty acids (>10.0 %) were C 18 : 1 ω7 c , C 17 : 1 ω6 c and summed feature 3 (C 16 : 1 ω7 c and/or C 16 : 1 ω6 c ). The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, sphingoglycolipid and one unknown polar lipid. The predominant respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain AY-3R T was 66.3 mol%. On the basis of the data from this polyphasic taxonomic study, strain AY-3R T represents a novel species of the genus Altererythrobacter , named Altererythrobacter rhizovicinus sp. nov. (=MCCC 1K03572 T =KCTC 72280 T ).

Objective: To investigate the epidemic factors of schistosomiasis in wetlands in Sichuan Province, so as to provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of schistosomiasis in wetlands., Methods: The artificial and natural wetlands were selected from Sichuan Province, and the relevant data regarding wetlands were collected. Routine snail survey, investigation on human morbidity due to schistosomiasis, snail diffusion experiments, questionnaire survey, determination of water infectivity and retrospective survey were conducted., Results: In Sichuan Province, the mean densities of living snails were 0.003 snails/0.1 m 2 and 2.033 snails/0.1 m 2 in the upper and lower reaches of the Meiwan Reservoir wetlands, 0.08 snails/0.1 m 2 in the Jinyan Lake of Guanghan City, 0.21 snails/0.1 m 2 in Muhe River of Guanghan City, and 0.02 snails/0.1 m 2 prior to the construction of Qiong-hai wetland park in Xichang City in 2015. Artificial simulation experiments showed that the largest distance of snail diffusion in water was 2 000 m. There were 8.80% (41/466) of subjects that lived neighboring wetlands, worked in wetlands and visited wet-lands having infested water contact behaviors. A total of 690 sentinel mice were assigned, and no Schistosoma japonicum infection was detected in the 677 mice dissected. Retrospective survey showed that the construction of the Meiwan Reservoir caused the spread of schistosomiasis in Dailing County, and snails were found in the ditches entering the Jinyan Lake and in Jinyan Lake areas 5 years following the construction of the Jinyan Lake in Guanghan City, with S. japonicum -infected snails detected in the ditches entering the Jinyan Lake., Conclusions: O. hupensis snails are found in some wetlands in Sichuan Province. Protection of wetlands and snail control with environmental improvements are recommended for the prevention of snail importation in natural wetlands, while in artificial wetlands, thorough snail control is recommended during the construction of the wetlands because of the likelihood of snail importation via water systems. In addition, both natural and artificial wetlands require long-term systematic surveillance of schistosomiasis.

Haloxylon ammodendron, a C4 perennial, succulent and xero-halophytic shrub, is highly resistant to harsh environments, therefore, exploring the stress resistance mechanism will be beneficial for the use of xerophytes to prevent desertification. To determine osmotic adjustment (OA) and antioxidase functions under simulated drought stress, 8-week-old seedlings were treated with sorbitol solutions to maintain osmotic potentials (Ψs) at a control and -0.5 and -1.0 MPa. Under -0.5 MPa osmotic stress, H. ammodendron stably maintained the water content of assimilating branches, a result that was not significantly different from the result of the control group. Moreover, the Ψs decreased significantly, which helped plants absorb water efficiently from the environment, as H. ammodendron accumulated massive osmotic regulators in its assimilating branches to adjust shoot Ψs. Specifically, the contribution of Na + to shoot Ψs was up to 45%, and Na + became the main osmotic regulator of OA. During the treatments, the content and contribution of K + remained stable. However, the total contribution of three organic osmotic regulators (free proline, betaine and soluble sugar) was only 20%, and betaine was the main organic osmotic regulator, accounting for approximately 15% of the 20% contribution. Moreover, H. ammodendron seedlings presented strong antioxidases, especially when there was a high activity level of superoxide dismutase, and with an increase in treatment time and degree of osmotic stress, the activity of peroxidase and catalase increased significantly. Substantial accumulation of osmotic adjustment substances was an important strategy for H. ammodendron to cope with simulated drought stress, in particular, H. ammodendron absorbed much Na + and transported Na + into the assimilating branch for OA. The scavenging of reactive oxygen species by antioxidases was another adaptation strategy for H. ammodendron to adapt to simulated drought stress., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. Several diaryl ethers were synthesized and tested in vitro against seven phytopathogenic fungi, namely Fusarium graminearum, Alternaria alternate, Helminthosporium sorokinianum, Pyricularia oryzae, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumarinum and Alternaria brassicae. Compared to a commercial agricultural fungicide, hymexazol, especially compounds a, b, e, g and k were found to be more effective at 50 mug/ml against F. graminearum, F. oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum and F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumarinum. Meantime, some structure-activity relationships were also observed.

Aim: To investigate the growth inhibition effect of the combination of bcr/abl phosphorothioate antisense oligonucleotides (PS-ASODN) and curcumin (cur), and the possible mechanisms of cur on the chronic myelogenous leukemia cell line K562., Methods: The K562 cell line was used as a P210( bcr/abl )-positive cell model in vitro and was exposed to different concentrations of PS-ASODN (0-20 micromol/L), cur (0-20 micromol/L), or a combination of both. Growth inhibition and apoptosis of K562 cells were assessed by MTT assay and AO/EB fluorescent staining, respectively. The expression levels of P210( bcr/abl ), NF-kappaB and heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) were assessed by Western blot., Results: Exposure to cur (5-20 micromol/L) and PSASODN (5-20 micromol/L) resulted in a synergistic inhibitory effect on cell growth. Growth inhibition was associated with the inhibition of the proliferation and induction of apoptosis. Western blot analysis showed that the drugs synergistically downregulated the level of P210( bcr/abl ) and NF-kappaB. Cur downregulated Hsp90, whereas no synergism was observed when cur was combined with PS-ASODN., Conclusion: PS-ASODN and cur exhibited a synergistic inhibitory effect on the cell growth of K562. The synergistic growth inhibition was mediated through different mechanisms that involved the inhibition of P210( bcr/abl ).

Aim: To investigate the effects of curcumin (Cur) on p210(bcr/abl) level in K562 cells, and the relationship between these effects and the molecular chaperone functions of heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90)., Methods: Flow cytometry and Western blot were used to examine the abundance of p210(bcr/abl), Hsp90, p23, Hsp70, and p60(Hop) in K562 cells treated with Cur. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to determine the bcr-abl mRNA level in K562 cells treated with Cur. After co-immunoprecipitation of p210(bcr/abl) and its molecular chaperones, the immunoprecipitate was then subjected to Western blot analysis with anti-Hsp90, anti-Hsp70, anti-p23, and anti- p60(Hop)mAb., Results: An exposure of K562 cells to Cur produced time-dependent down-regulation of p210(bcr/abl), the inhibition rate of p210(bcr/abl) in K562 cells determined by flow cytometry after treatment with Cur 27.2 micromol/L for 1 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h was 31.2%, 63.7%, 81.3% and 94.5%, respectively. In contrast, Cur had almost no influence on bcr-abl mRNA level. Treatment with Cur for 24 h reduced the association of p210(bcr/abl) with Hsp90/p23 complex, while increasing the association of p210(bcr/abl) with Hsp70/ p60(Hop) complex; however, the total protein abundance of Hsp90, p23, and p60(Hop) in K562 cells had no apparent change, while Hsp70 increased greatly., Conclusion: Down-regulation of p210(bcr/abl) by Cur involves dissociating the binding of p210(bcr/abl) with Hsp90/p23 complex. In contrast, the association of p210(bcr/abl) with Hsp70/ p60(Hop) complex increased.
