A cervical bronchogenic cyst is a rare embryological anomaly of the primitive foregut, with an exceptionally uncommon occurrence in a suprahyoid location attached to the parotid tail. Background: Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is routinely performed to assess the upper airway collapse in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Its purpose is to identify cases of multilevel collapse, which helps to determine the appropriate surgical approach. The current proposal to analyze the functional septoturbinoplasty with or without nasal valve suspension suture (FSTVS) has the potential to change the original findings of DISE in OSAS patients who were initially planned for one-stage multilevel surgery based on the pre-FSTVS DISE results., Study Design: Prospective study., Methods: All OSAS patients with moderate to severe symptoms who underwent DISE pre-FSTVS and noticed multilevel collapse were subjected to post-FSTVS re-evaluation using DISE at three-month intervals., Result: This study included a total of thirty-two patients, with males outnumbering females in a ratio of 15:1. The average age of the patients was 38.88 years (standard deviation, SD ± 10.12), and the mean body mass index (BMI) was 28.66 (SD ± 3.73). Significant improvements (p = 0.0417) were observed in both pre- and post-FSTVS measurements at three-month intervals, as well as in the Epworth sleepiness score (ESS). Enhancements in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and snoring event post-FSTVS were also observed. Around 50% of the patients exhibited concentric collapse at the velum, lateral collapse at the oropharynx, and anteroposterior (AP) collapse at the tongue base. Post-FSTVS, the dynamics at the velum were modified by 23.33%, at the oropharynx by 10%, at the tongue base by 11.76%, and at the epiglottis by 23.07%. One patient who did not experience collapse at the tongue base pre-FSTVS exhibited partial collapse after the procedure. Moreover, all cases of complete AP collapse of the epiglottis changed to partial collapse., Conclusion: Our study confirms that FSTVS may offer a simpler and more accessible approach for patients with OSAS. It is a viable option to consider even prior to DISE in clinical anticipated multilevel collapse. By conducting DISE at intervals subsequent to addressing nasal resistance through surgery, valuable insights can be obtained regarding the collapsibility of the upper airway. Xanthelasma palpebrarum (XP) is the most common form of cutaneous xanthomata, and is important aesthetically, because of its close relation to the eyes, as well as medically for its association with cardiovascular disease (CVD). To provide avant-garde review discussing the various aspects of XP, including its aetio-pathogenesis and various treatment modalities. A structured Pubmed and Medline were searched for relevant articles. The finding of recent research has strongly espoused the link between XP and CVD, and mechanisms have been suggested for its formation. The new technologies have led to a multitude of treatment options for XP. Squamous cell carcinoma involving the oral cavity (OC) and oropharynx regions are a major cause of morbidity and mortality world-wide. The recent discovery of a strong association between human papilloma virus (HPV) infection and OC and oropharyngeal (OP) cancer has prompted world-wide research into the exact etiology and pathogenesis of these cancers in relation to the HPV. HPV-positive OC/OP cancers generally present at a relatively advanced stage (by virtue of cervical nodal involvement) and are more commonly seen in younger patients without significant exposure to alcohol or tobacco. These factors are implicated in prognosis, regardless of HPV association. In this article, we review the biology and epidemiology, risk factors, association, molecular analyses, treatment response and prognosis of HPV-related cancers. Role of HPV vaccination in HPV-related OC/OP cancers has also been discussed.

Objective: To document accurately the tracheo-oesophageal party wall thickness (PWT) intra-operatively in patients undergoing total laryngectomy and to correlate it with constitutional parameters like height, weight, body mass index (BMI), age, and gender. Also, to correlate PWT with the length of tract (LOT), that is prosthesis size, as measured using the standard valve length measuring device provided by the manufacturers., Methods: Twenty-eight patients of carcinoma larynx, following removal of the diseased larynx had their tracheo-oesophageal PWT measured using a special custom-designed and calibrated external (or outside) calliper and a primary trachea-oesophageal puncture (TOP) was made and inserted 10-14 days postoperative with an appropriately sized Blom-Singer(R) indwelling voice prosthesis., Results: The mean PWT was 3.1 mm. PWT showed significant correlation with the weight of the patients (P = 0.006). There was no significant correlation between PWT and height, BMI, age or gender of the study group. The average LOT was found to be 4.8 mm (SD 1.5). There was a significant correlation (P = 0.009) between PWT and initial LOT, with the most commonly used prosthesis sizes being 4-6 mm., Conclusions: The study shows that Indian patients with a thin party wall require a smaller prosthesis size and it is advisable to measure the PWT intra-operatively. Dysphagia is an important symptom of head and neck cancer (HNC), as well as representing a significant complication of its treatment. The treatment of HNC can result in neuromuscular and sensory damage affecting any stage of the swallow. The protective mechanisms during swallowing afforded by the structures in the pharynx are also affected in HNC. This article reviews the effect of the various treatment modalities in HNC on the swallowing mechanism. Various interventions which may play in role in relieving this dysphagia are also discussed. Due stress has been laid on the need for a multi-disciplinary approach for an optimal outcome in rehabilitating a patient's swallow after treatment for HNC.

Follow-up in patients treated for head and neck cancer (HNC) is aimed at early detection of recurrence, metastases and second primary tumours. Various modalities for the routine follow-up of patients with HNC have been proposed and studied in the literature. Consequently, practising head and neck surgeons and oncologists all over the world use different guidelines and protocols to follow-up their patients. These guidelines involve follow-up intervals of varying intensity and schedule an assortment of investigations that may be neither logical nor practical. This follow-up process may be difficult to administrate, cause unnecessary discomfort and morbidity to the patient and can have serious cost-implications to the healthcare system. This review summarises strategies for follow-up, imaging modalities and key investigations in the literature published between 1980 and 2009. In this structured review, we have assessed studies in the literature that have addressed follow-up intervals, imaging tests, tumour markers, endoscopy and thyroid function tests as a part of the routine post-treatment surveillance in HNC patients. Studies analysing the cost benefit of such surveillance have also been addressed. Based on the evidence presented, we have compiled definitive recommendations for effective surveillance/post-treatment follow-up in patients with HNC.
