Background: Interactive teaching methods such as patient narratives and role plays are effective tools in medical education. Incorporating the patient's perspective of the disease and standardized treatment in the teaching process helps the students become more empathetic and have better doctor-patient communication., Methods: An interactive module was conducted using role plays and patient narratives to teach communication skills and doctor-patient relationships to randomly chosen Seventy-seven final-year(4th year) medical students to address the various psychosocial problems faced by the patients with breast cancer. Participants' perspectives regarding the intervention were collected using pre and post-tests, session feedback, and interviews. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, as appropriate. Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)stations with case scenarios to break bad news to simulated patients were used for the assessment., Results: Most participants felt that such interactive sessions were needed where they played the role of a doctor before facing an actual patient. While reading the narratives, they felt that the narrators' emotions were genuine and that they felt involved. Most of them could relate to the social and emotional aspects of the patient and understood the Interprofessional (IP) teamwork in the treatment of a breast cancer patient. 93.4% of the participants felt they gained competence in managing difficult communication situations with patients., Conclusion: Interactive teaching methods like narratives and role play may help enhance students' communication and empathy, which is vital for future doctors. Background: The operating room environment demands high levels of teamwork and interprofessional collaboration, yet current training programs often lack sufficient opportunities to develop these essential skills. Few studies have explored the impact of Interprofessional Education (IPE) based on digital information technology in improving the collaboration and learning among newly enrolled medical staff in the operating room., Objectives: This study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a digital information technology-based IPE training program for newly enrolled medical staff in the operating room. The evaluation focused on the effects of the program on the participants' expertise, operational knowledge, team communication skills, and application of these skills in clinical practice., Methods: Sixty-eight newly enrolled medical staff from surgical departments in a tertiary hospital in Shanxi province were included in this study from January 2021 to December 2022. The participants engaged in an IPE training curriculum that utilized digital information technology, featuring courses and case studies specifically tailored to the operating room environment. Post-training assessments included evaluation of test scores of expertise course, evaluation of surgical simulation operations (operational knowledge and communication), and the International Interprofessional Collaboration Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS). The effectiveness of the training was assessed by evaluating improvements in communication skills, application of practical knowledge, and teamwork in surgical contexts., Results: Expertise course evaluation and reflection revealed that the new enrolled medical staff in the operating room had a deep understanding of the knowledge. At the same time, they are better able to understand and master the nursing mode in the process of different professional surgery, and said that they would like to cooperate with surgeon and anesthesiologist during the surgical operation. The score of the Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) increased significantly (P < 0.05), indicating that the communication and collaboration skills of the new enrolled medical staff in operating room were further improved, and that they were more familiar with the patient-centered teamwork mode., Conclusions: This study provides a valuable reference for the design and implementation of IPE programs based on digital information technology in the operating room. Background: The assessment of team performance within large-scale Interprofessional Learning (IPL) initiatives is an important but underexplored area. It is essential for demonstrating the effectiveness of collaborative learning outcomes in preparing students for professional practice. Using Kane's validity framework, we investigated whether peer assessment of student-produced videos depicting collaborative teamwork in an IPL activity was sufficiently valid for decision-making about team performance, and where the sources of error might lie to optimise future iterations of the assessment., Methods: A large cohort of health professional students (n = 1218) of 8 differing professions was divided into teams containing 5-6 students. Each team collaborated on producing a short video to evidence their management of one of 12 complex patient cases. Students from two other teams, who had worked on the same case, individually rated each video using a previously developed assessment scale. A generalisability study quantified sources of error that impacted the reliability of peer assessment of collaborative teamwork. A decision study modeled the impact of differing numbers of raters. A modified Angoff determined the pass/fail mark., Results: Within a large-scale learning activity, peer assessment of collaborative teamwork was reliable (G = 0.71) based on scoring by students from two teams (n = 10-12) for each video. The main sources of variation were the stringency and subjectivity of fellow student assessors. Whilst professions marked with differing stringency, and individual student assessors had different views of the quality of a particular video, none of that individual assessor variance was attributable to the assessors' profession. Teams performed similarly across the 12 cases overall, and no particular professions marked differently on any particular case., Conclusion: A peer assessment of a student-produced video depicting interprofessional collaborative teamwork around the management of complex patient cases can be valid for decision-making about student team performance. Further refining marking rubrics and student assessor training could potentially modify assessor subjectivity. The impact of professions on assessing individual peers and the case-specificity of team performances in IPL settings need further exploration. Background: Effective interprofessional education (IPE) can facilitate teamwork between dentists and dental technicians, thereby enabling the efficient provision of high-quality dental care., Objective: This study aimed to design and assess an IPE module named Project 35, which was offered to dental and dental technology students early in their undergraduate training as a precursor to a more comprehensive IPE curriculum in dentistry and dental technology., Methods: Leveraging positive behavior support (PBS) theory, Project 35 was devised as an innovation and entrepreneurship educational training framework. It used project-based learning to cultivate teamwork skills and to promote the professional development of dental and dental technology students. The pilot study was designed to present the IPE module and preliminarily assess its validity. In survey 1, which was conducted immediately after the course, the dental and dental technology students' self-reported skill acquisition and attitudes were assessed and compared. Survey 2, conducted 1 year after the course, focused on the comparative benefits of Project 35 training for dental technology students versus an untrained group., Results: A total of 66 students, including 36 dental students and 30 dental technology students who had undertaken the training, were recruited. Project 35 training improved teamwork skills for students in both disciplines comparably, and the students recognized the training as highly valuable and effective. The mean values for all items indicating skills improvement of students ranged from 4.13 (SD 0.797) to 4.63 (SD 0.495) for dental students and from 4.13 (SD 0.869) to 4.74 (SD 0.619) for dental technology students. Background: Palliative care, vital for patients with advanced, life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses, faces an increasing global demand due to aging populations and rising non-communicable diseases. Specialized palliative care teams (PCTs) within hospitals significantly impact patient outcomes, which requires effective interprofessional collaboration with general healthcare workers. Therefore, We will conduct a realist review to explore the contextual factors, mechanisms and outcomes related to the interprofessional collaboration between PCTs and general healthcare workers., Methods: Grounded in the third generation Cultural-Historical Activity Theory, this review will follow 5-step iterative process. First, a preliminary literature search will define the review scope. Second, based on the preliminary searches an initial program theory will be developed. Third, systematic searches across PubMed, Embase, CINHAL, Web of Science, and Scopus will be caried out. Fourth, data extraction of included studies will be conducted. Simultaneously, relevance and rigour of individual studies will be evaluated. Lastly, data analysis and synthesis will be conducted in which identified individual Context-Mechanism-Outcome (CMO) configurations will be combined in chains of inference through which hypotheses can be formulated. Background: Forty percent of individuals within the Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) spectrum are misdiagnosed as in a vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (VS/UWS) when in fact they are minimally conscious or emerged, underscoring a need to optimize evaluation techniques and interprofessional care management., Primary Objective: Conscious Care is a proposed care model that aims to improve interprofessional care of patients with DoC in the hospital setting. The aim of this paper is to describe this model's key ingredients and various components., Conclusions: This care model will advance clinician and caregiver preparedness to manage the complexities of this population and advocate for equal access to post-hospital medical and rehabilitative services. Evaluation and treatment of survivors of DoC should incorporate current evidence which drives continuous quality improvement and education to clinicians across the continuum of care. Immediate action must be taken to decrease the vulnerability and neglect of this marginalized population. Conscious Care is an innovative, sustainable solution that will improve interprofessional awareness of best practices and available science, strengthen care, and advocate for the right to quality of life that this population is so often denied.

Background: Healthcare provider leadership programs represent an intervention opportunity to support advancement of the national system of care and an evaluation of their program impacts is needed. Between 2016 and 2023, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) funded Clinical Scholars (CS), a three-year equity-centered leadership training program for US healthcare providers. CS recruited participants (referred to as Fellows) in cohorts and engaged them as members of interprofessional teams to transform their careers and the health of their communities. The aim of this study was to evaluate Fellows' perspectives on the success of CS, specifically the program elements and their importance for community well-being and sustainability., Methods: We used the mixed methods group concept mapping (GCM) approach to evaluate Fellows' perspectives on program success. First, we conducted the qualitative phases of brainstorming, sorting, and rating with Fellows. Secondly, we conducted the quantitative phases using multi-dimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis and integrated the sorting and rating information from each Fellow to develop a series of concept maps. Finally, we conducted the interpretation phase to synthesize findings. Fellows (N = 177) across five cohorts were invited to participate in the study., Results: Fifty-seven Fellows (32%) completed one or more GCM phases. A conceptual map emerged, consisting of seven thematic clusters, which showed that program value could be attributed to the following elements: "Resources", "Wicked Problem Impact Project (WPIP) Support", "Curriculum", "Thinking Bigger", "Leadership Training", "Networking", and "Teamwork." The pattern match showed that all seven clusters were highly rated by Fellows across the Community Well-being Impact and Sustainability domains., Conclusion: Study findings support the value of the RWJF-CS program strategy of long-term investment in the development of healthcare leaders with applied skills in interprofessional collaboration who will be prepared to continue addressing complex, multi-faceted challenges in the system of care., (© 2024. Background: The challenges associated with ensuring widespread system changes to enable early diagnosis and prevention of oral cancer could benefit from interprofessional practice. A needs assessment study was conducted to inform the Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) course related to oral cancer. The primary objectives of this study were 1) to establish a tool assess the knowledge attitude and practice (KAP) related to prevention and early detection of oral cancer of health professional students, and 2) to assess the same KAP of pre-licensure dental students. Additional objectives were to consider the possibility that dental students would demonstrate good scores related to early detection and prevention of oral cancer thus indicating their readiness for interprofessional learning and collaborative practice., Methods: Two questionnaires were utilized for this study which included 1) Readiness for interprofessional learning was assessed using the pre- validated tool of Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) 2) A questionnaire to assess the KAP related to early diagnosis and prevention of oral cancer which was developed, validated, and evaluated. Statistical analysis includes, descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Ordered logistic regression and Probit analysis. p value was set at < 0.05., Results: A total of 130 dental students (74.6% female) were included in the study. Mean scores related to KAP were 15.96 ± 1.394, 4.70 + 1.146, 7.02 ± 1.019 respectively. The mean score of RIPLS was 73.15 ± 15.961. The probability of overall samples to have good RIPLS scores was around 0.68 to 0.76 (Male 0.68-0.82 & Female 0.68 -0.74). The percentage of students having good knowledge score was 93.8%, good attitude score was around 54.6% and good practice score was around 90%., Conclusion: Knowledge and practice related to prevention and early detection of oral cancer were scored highly. Attitude scores were lower in a relatively higher proportion of participants and needed to be addressed in the curriculum. Introduction: Teaching learners the benefits and challenges of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) in acute care is best done in the context of authentic patient care rather than classroom settings. Yet differing clinical schedules of students and faculty as well as structured, controlled environments of intensive care units are not conducive to bringing multiple interprofessional learners to the bedside., Methods: We developed a 2.5-hour interprofessional education (IPE) activity based around neurology intensive care unit patients that was implemented using team-based learning (TBL) methodologies, including individual/team readiness assessments (iRAT/tRAT) and application activities comprising interprofessional student-led care conferences in which authentic patients and their unique, deidentified clinical parameters were discussed. Students represented medicine, nursing, chaplain, physician assistant, social work, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and law programs., Results: Two hundred ninety-three students participated online during the first year. Mean tRAT scores were 14.9 points higher than iRAT scores (39.5 vs. 24.6 of 44 possible). There was strong agreement from students that the session met educational objectives (all >4.0 on a 5-point Likert scale). Individualized feedback was provided to learners using a rubric; 276 students shared personal reflections of knowledge learned through interactions with other health professional students/faculty., Discussion: IPE activities that use authentic patient chart data as the basis for student application exercises are useful learning tools since students must teach and learn from each other, interpret data, and propose care plans based upon their collaborations. Abusive supervision in healthcare settings can have detrimental effects on employee behavior and patient care, making it crucial to understand the underlying mechanisms and mitigating factors. This study examines the impact of abusive supervision on patient-directed service sabotage, focusing on the mediating role of workplace rudeness and the moderating effect of work ethics. Data were collected from 305 hospital nurses, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the proposed model. The findings reveal that abusive supervision significantly increases workplace rudeness, which in turn escalates to service sabotage. However, strong work ethics were found to weaken the link between rudeness and sabotage, demonstrating their protective role in this negative cycle. The moderated mediation analysis further confirms that work ethics reduce the indirect impact of abusive supervision on service sabotage through rudeness. These results contribute to our understanding by illustrating how ethical standards can buffer against the negative consequences of abusive supervision, providing practical implications for enhancing leadership practices and promoting ethical behavior in healthcare environments., (© 2024. In this first of three papers, we seek to understand how the new "integrated care" global policy directive, pursuing greater alignment for health and social care systems, will be translated into preparation for practice concerning interprofessional education (IPE) from pre-to-post registration level and for continuing professional development. We ask questions about the implications for leaders and practitioners in the field of IPE and collaborative practice (CP). In seeking to understand this new global policy directive, we explore the plethora of definitions, concepts and perspectives, continuously evolving and at times counterproductive as they try to synthesize complexity, to describe how health and social care systems and practitioners work together. We trace research on how integrated care is understood drawing upon transnational current understandings of integrated working in North America, Europe and the UK. We ask questions of the ambitions of integrated care aligned to forging closer working relationships between health and social care practitioners to tackle modern complex healthcare challenges. In reading the literature we have sought to identify the themes which emerge to direct the field of IPE and CP so that the workforce is prepared to deliver care, as policy makers intended, within locally designed new innovative care systems. We conclude that it remains unclear as to whether these new policy aspirations will achieve the connectivity required, for a supported workforce, committed to working together to deliver care envisaged to help people experiencing complex long-term conditions, disadvantage and health inequalities. In our second paper, we review the developmental pathway for IPE, taking a closer look at preparation for integrated care pathways and collaborative practice, seeking evidence to guide us. Finally, in our third paper, we turn our attention to the implications for the workforce composition, dynamics, and relationships, exploring heightened progressive ever-changing roles and responsibilities, focusing on social work.

In the first of three articles we shared our understanding of integrated care and traced the evolution of interprofessional learning from organic to strategic and systemic, prepared to play its part in the implementation of integrated care. In this third article, joined by Lee-Ann Fenge, we focus on the role of the social worker in integrating care and clarifying their roles in collaboration with other professions. We distinguish between social work as a profession and social care as a field of practice, which includes many professions as well as other occupations. We share the literature on where social work plays a role in integrated care and ask questions about the lack of interprofessional education involving social workers and without whom integrated care cannot succeed.

In the first of three articles, we scanned global and national sources to help understand the concept and scope of integrated care. New policy directives seek closer working relationships between health and social care systems and practitioners to tackle modern challenges relating to the ageing population, poverty, disadvantage, and mental health. We identified that the practitioner workforce has not been fully considered or prepared for large shifts in working practices, often bringing new practitioners' roles to address local needs in newly managed interprofessional working systems for integrated care. In this second article, we consider the major themes identified by our review of integrated care policy to explore their implications for interprofessional learning, drawing on developmental pathways for interprofessional education from organic to strategic and systemic responses, to ask in what ways we will need to prepare our learners for these new ways of delivering integrated care.

Ten advanced practice nurses are already working at the Guillaume-Régnier hospital in Rennes. Purpose/objectives: To present evidence-based elements supporting the synergistic relationship between nurse scientists and clinical nurse specialists to improve the translation of evidence into practice., Description of the Project/program: Using best-practice elements to support the improvement of evidence-based translation, we define the roles and synergies between nurse scientists and clinical nurse specialists within clinical environments., Outcome: Five themes were identified in the literature review:● Although clinical nurse specialists and nurse scientists differ in focus and competencies, they are in key positions to collaborate to meet healthcare demands.● Clinical nurse specialists are well-equipped to implement the science developed by nurse scientists.● To meet the increased demands and complexity of the healthcare system and patient needs, organizational leadership must lend support to clinical nurse specialists and nurse scientist collaboration.● Clinical nurse specialists are well-positioned to foster interprofessional partnerships and generate opportunities for evidence-based project initiatives across healthcare disciplines.● Clinical nurse specialists should utilize professional models to inform practice to improve the review, translation, and implementation of research into practice., Conclusion: Projects conducted using a collaborative structure had a system-level impact and long-term sustainability capabilities. Research into metacognitive processes within interprofessional clinical simulation has been largely overlooked in the literature. This study explores how interprofessional simulation may influence cognitive and metacognitive processes across several professional programmes; medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and occupational therapy. This study focused on changes in performance pre- and post-simulation, with undergraduate students from each profession answering a set of questions related to the simulation case, requiring specialized knowledge from each profession. Question scores, item confidence judgment ratings, and calibration values were collected and analyzed. The data revealed a pattern of convergence in post-simulation assessments, where professions initially with lower performance in the pre-simulation phase improved, and those initially performing well demonstrating a decline in performance. Calibration values indicated that medical students developed metacognitive errors from their interactions in the simulation, which were not present pre-simulation, and that occupational therapy students suffered a loss of confidence and calibration in questions within their own field resulting from their experience (being more accurate pre-simulation). The authors anticipate that the phenomenon of convergence may have longer-term consequences, potentially fostering distrust among professions for those with declining performance. The authors propose that expanding awareness of convergence phenomena and conducting repeated simulations (thus facilitating further team development) could mitigate this issue.

Research on interprofessional identity using the Extended Professional Identity Theory (EPIT) has shown promising results in measuring this identity, predicting interprofessional collaboration, and improving team outcomes. However, EPIT-based interprofessional identity has not been studied in Türkiye due to the absence of a Turkish version of the Extended Professional Identity Scale (EPIS). We aimed to develop and validate a Turkish EPIS, the EPIS-TR, and explore interprofessional identities across eight different professions. A cross-cultural adaptation of EPIS was made by linguistic validation, followed by analysis of psychometric properties using a sample of students from four Turkish universities and eight professions/programs ( n  = 405). Confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analyses were performed. Differences between professions were explored with ANOVA and a post hoc test. Three out of seven goodness-of-fit indices showed acceptable fit (x 2 /df = .004; RMSEA = .07; GFI = .94), and others showed excellent fit (SRMR = .04; AGFI = .91; CFI = .97; NNFI = .96). The internal consistency of the EPIS-TR is .93. The EPIS-TR scale has strong psychometric properties. The construct validity of the EPIS-TR was similar to that of the original version. The interprofessional identity scores of the different professions were mostly similar. Based on these findings, the EPIS-TR is well suited for measuring interprofessional identity.

Up to 175 conditions influencing interprofessional practices have been identified. Still, little is known about to what extent these conditions interact, influence communication, and vary across professional groups and settings. We explored these knowledge gaps by examining communication among staff in home care and home nursing units in two Danish municipalities, Herning and Holstebro. Conditions were categorized into two types (programme and context) and two levels (professional and organizational). Structural Equation Modeling was used with a sample of 395 staff and 21 managers to analyze the condition categories' interactions, influences on communication, and variations by unit type and municipality. Context conditions strongly influenced programme conditions on the professional and organizational levels. Organizational-level context conditions had no significant influence, organizational-level programme conditions had a weak influence, and professional-level programme and context conditions had moderate influences on communication. Lastly, professional-level programme conditions had the biggest influence on communication for staff in home care units and in Holstebro. In contrast, professional-level context conditions had the biggest influence on communication for staff in home nursing units and in Herning. These findings offer unique insights into conditions' interactions, influences, and variances, contributing to our understanding of what makes communication work and for whom.

The successful team concept extends beyond the operating room and into many areas of hand surgery practice. Effective leadership is critical in creating highly effective teams. Evidence suggests that leadership skills can be learned and developed. The authors synthesize and translate findings from organizational psychology to provide insight and recommendations for clinical practice. Specifically, the role of broad emotional intelligence in leadership is explored. Researchers have highlighted gaps in the work readiness (WR) of allied health (AH) graduates and the capabilities required to successfully work in an interprofessional collaborative practice healthcare environment. In the studies conducted, the focus has generally been on one AH discipline or on one participant group across disciplines, such as new graduates. We explored WR capability of new AH graduates across three participant groups (managers, supervisors, and graduates) and across several AH disciplines in the health sector. Focus groups using Critical Incident Technique (CIT) were conducted with 47 participants (14 new graduates, 13 supervisors, and 20 managers) from four public health organisations across Eastern Australia. CIT identified examples where new AH graduates had/did not have necessary WR capabilities to manage situations in the collaborative practice environment. Using thematic analysis, we found four main themes related to WR expectations of AH graduates (work skills and knowledge, working with others, personal attributes, and organisational knowledge), with several sub-themes. Some aspects of identified themes/sub-themes were unique to the AH interprofessional work context. Understanding of AH graduates' WR from multiple perspectives could support development of programs to enable graduate success in interprofessional working environments.

Interprofessional education (IPE) is vital for preparing a competent health workforce. Despite the proven benefits of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP), barriers to its implementation persist. Given the importance of health professionals' perspectives for IPCP success, we investigated the perceptions of IPCP among final-year health science students at Khon Kaen University, Thailand, while they transition into practice. A cross-sectional online survey conducted from February to April 2023 included 989 students across six health science disciplines, with a response rate of 57.8%. Using the SPICE-R2 questionnaire on a five-point Likert-type scale, we assessed perceptions related to interprofessional teamwork, roles and responsibilities, and patient outcomes. Results showed significant diversity in IPCP perceptions and experiences with IPE. Nursing students consistently demonstrated the highest IPCP perceptions, while medical and public health students scored the lowest. Positive perceptions about IPCP were notably associated with nursing students and those satisfied with the learning process. Dentistry students and those with IPE experience also exhibited more favorable views on teamwork. This study suggests the need to address disparities in IPCP perceptions among student groups, which is essential for enhancing interprofessional collaboration in future health professionals.

Background: Incivility is detrimental to nurses, patients, and health care organizations. Cognitive rehearsal has shown promise in addressing incivility, yet the most recent review of cognitive rehearsal training contained articles published in 2014 and earlier. This review integrates current knowledge of the effectiveness of cognitive rehearsal training in addressing nursing incivility., Method: Four databases were searched from January 2018 to April 2023. Thematic analysis was used to analyze 22 studies., Results: Three main themes emerged: (a) theoretical frameworks, (b) participant responses to cognitive rehearsal training, and (c) work culture influences. Nine theoretical frameworks uncover the mechanism behind nursing incivility and provide guidance on how to remedy it., Conclusion: Cognitive rehearsal training that includes four core components can foster skills and confidence to address nursing incivility and, in turn, decrease its occurrence, but training alone is not sufficient. Nurse managers and leaders need to model civil behavior, support zero tolerance, create a safe environment for reporting incivility, and intervene effectively. Social workers frequent interprofessional healthcare teams, but few studies examine the day-to-day experiences of these providers on interprofessional teams. Our study utilized semi-structured interviews with 54 medical social workers practicing on interprofessional healthcare teams. A thematic analysis was used to analyze the day-to-day functions of these social workers. The analysis resulted in three primary themes: 1) Social Workers' Self-Perceptions of their Roles within Interprofessional Teams, 2) Social Workers Shifting Roles on Interprofessional Teams, and 3) Interprofessional Team Dynamics that Impact the Role of a Social Worker. Social workers perceived their primary roles as contributing a unique systems approach to interprofessional healthcare teams while emphasizing patient self-determination. These self-perceptions influenced their shifting roles on interprofessional healthcare teams (e.g. clinician, case manager, bridge builder). In addition to individual self-perceptions, the healthcare system infrastructure influenced social work roles. For example, social workers in outpatient settings more frequently assumed the role of a mental health practitioner compared to those in inpatient settings. Last, there was variation in interprofessional communication and workflow assignment based on the healthcare infrastructure. Future research should examine the education and training efforts of social workers and other allied health professions for interprofessional healthcare teams.

Introduction: Despite the recognized importance of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in trauma care, healthcare professionals often work in silos. Interprofessional (IP) interventions are crucial for optimizing IPC and delivering high-quality care across clinical contexts, yet their effectiveness throughout the inpatient trauma care continuum is not well understood. Thus, this review aimed to examine the literature on the effectiveness of IP interventions on collaboration processes and related outcomes in inpatient trauma care., Methods: We conducted a scoping review following Joanna Briggs Institute's methodology. We searched six databases for studies from the last decade on IP interventions in inpatient trauma care. Two independent reviewers categorized IP interventions (education, practice, organization) and extracted their impact on IPC processes and related outcomes (team performance, patient, organization)., Results: Of the 17,397 studies screened, 148 met the inclusion criteria. Most were cohort designs (72%), conducted in level I trauma centers (57%) and emergency departments (51%), and involved surgeons (56%) and nurses (53%). Studies focused on IP organization interventions (51%), such as clinical pathways; IP practice interventions (35%), such as trauma team activation protocols; and IP education interventions (14%) including multi-method education. IP practice interventions most effectively improved team performance results, while IP education interventions primarily improved IPC processes. Positive patient outcomes were limited, with few studies examining organizational effects., Conclusions: Significant advancements are still required in IP interventions and trauma care research. This report describes an innovative interprofessional education collaborative practice (IPCP) experience for rehabilitation professions students using a unique on-campus camp model through a community-academic partnership. Throughout the three-day camp, known as the Bright Ideas TBI Camp, interprofessional student groups deliver tailored health and wellness services to individuals with disabilities due to traumatic brain injury and their caregivers. Initial program evaluation suggests that this camp model offers an effective IPCP experience for students while addressing community health needs. Further outcome evaluation is needed to determine the impact of the camp on students' development of IPCP competencies and health outcomes of clients and caregivers.

Interprofessional education aims to foster healthcare students' ability to collaborate in interprofessional teams with the patients at the center of care as active participants. However, little is known about how patients experience this collaboration. Therefore, this study aimed to explore patients' experiences of being involved in the interprofessional team of healthcare students at a clinical training ward in Sweden. A descriptive design with a qualitative approach was used. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews with 22 patients. Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis was used. The main finding was that patients were only included as passive participants. Although most patients wanted to be involved, they were hindered due to their health condition or excluded from care planning and decision-making. The patients needed family members' support to be involved. However, this need was not recognised by the interprofessional team of healthcare students. Patient involvement must be highlighted as an important component of interprofessional education initiatives. Further research is needed to explore family members' perspectives on involvement in interprofessional training ward settings.

Best practices have not yet been established in the interprofessional education (IPE) literature to guide the ideal dose and duration of IPE experiences across the curriculum. As such, the content, structure, and delivery format of IPE offerings vary significantly across institutions. The University of Minnesota had the rare opportunity to evaluate learner-perceived collaborative competency outcomes due to the transition of its centrally offered introductory IPE course. Data were collected consistently, longitudinally, and for a high volume of learners and professions across two IPE course models applied within the same academic institution. Retrospective analysis of pre-post interprofessional collaborative competency scores collected for over 5,000 learners from 17 health profession degree programs demonstrated nearly identical self-reported competency attainment for both a 12- and 4-hour introductory IPE offering, assessed using the ICCAS tool over the course of 5-year format transition. If student-reported competency attainment is the same following an introductory IPE experience regardless of the dosage, then academic IPE programs may be better positioned by decreasing their introductory emphasis and instead focus their resources on exploring innovative workplace-based and competency-based IPE strategies in line with contemporary recommendations. Further studies are needed to explore the implications of and next steps in this line of research.

Interprofessional education (IPE) is a teaching method that improves collaboration and communication across health professions. There are consistent reports of poor interprofessional collaboration and communication between conventional health professionals and traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) professions. The application of IPE within courses that provide training in TCM requires close examination. This research aimed to identify the state of the art in IPE in TCM teaching. A scoping review was conducted. Thirteen databases were searched to identify citations up to March 2021. Thirty articles were selected after filtering for relevance against the inclusion criteria. The included articles were categorized into four a priori categories: Knowledge and Attitudes of students and professionals about TCM and IPE; Competencies of IPE in TCM; Teaching about TCM using IPE and Challenges and Opportunities for IPE in TCM. Nineteen of the included articles reported empirical research and primarily presented the evaluation of IPE activities within TCM courses or workshops; six studies consisted of texts with propositions and theoretical analyses; and five were case/experiential reports of IPE and TCM interventions, with or without evaluation of results. The studies report all health science students (undergraduate and graduate) exposed to IPE demonstrate a decrease in prejudice and an increase in knowledge about TCM. A sense of partnership developed through the collaborative competencies common to IPE and TCM and integrated care of patients. IPE in the context of TCM has been used for fostering integrative health care through the collaborative work of professional teams. Implementing IPE in TCM teaching requires inclusion in the curriculum, primarily undergraduate and research training.

Research has shown that interprofessional collaboration (IPC) and education (IPE) may potentially lead to better care for residents in nursing homes, but their implementation is challenging. This study evaluates the implementation of a co-designed IPE program and investigates what and how healthcare students learn and what factors influence their learning. A mixed-methods approach was used to evaluate three cases, with student participation in the IPE ( n  = 72). The study comprised pre- and posttests, focus groups, and interviews ( n  = 54). The results indicate that students developed their interprofessional skills and person-centered practice, as confirmed by both the students and educators in the interviews. Additionally, the findings suggest that others also learned from the program. The study emphasizes the influence of workplace learning culture, resources, organizational infrastructure for IPC, and educators' embeddedness in the care organization on learning outcomes. The findings suggest that IPE is stimulated and accelerated by existing IPC and can stimulate or accelerate existing IPC. As the enabling factors are interrelated, addressing them simultaneously on all organizational levels may result in the faster development of an IPE-ready organization.

This dental student-led study aimed to explore the extent to which an interprofessional intervention can be incorporated within the management of Parkinson's Disease (PD) to address the oral health needs of those living with the condition. Existing integrated or interprofessional (IP) care models lack the inclusion of oral health to improve clinical outcomes. We conducted key informant interviews with five neurologists and four dentists to ascertain their willingness, and the process needed, to facilitate collaborative referral management for patients with PD. We conducted a focus group composed of eight patients living with PD to understand their oral health needs and perspective on an integrated oral health management care team. Both neurologists and dentists were receptive IP the idea of integrating oral health into the overall management of patients, with the expectation of improved communication and collaboration. Patients commonly expressed a need for their oral health to be addressed by both neurologists and dentists. These results reveal an opportunity for an IP care model that includes oral health management in the care for patients with PD. It also provides clues on how to incorporate care for PD into a dental education curriculum.

Effective interprofessional collaboration practice (IPCP) promotes healthcare outcomes but is often hindered by poor communication. Traditional teaching methods with limited interdisciplinary interactions may not effectively foster IPCP behaviors. This study evaluated the effectiveness of nurse-led World Cafe (NWC) approach in promoting IPCP behaviors and learning engagement. Seventy-six healthcare professionals (38 in each group) participated in this quasi-experimental study. Data were collected before, one-week, and four-week post-intervention, using Lee's (2016) Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Behavior Inventory (IPCPBI) and Ciou's (2020) Learning Engagement Scale. Five medical technologists in the control group were excluded from data analysis to ensure group equivalence. Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in IPCPBI between groups. One week post-intervention, the experimental group scored higher in IPCPBI, yet lacked statistical significance ( p  > .05). Four weeks post-intervention, the experimental group significantly improved in IPCPBI ( p  < .05). While no statistically significance was found in learning engagement between groups, the experimental group scored significantly higher in the active engagement sub-domain ( p  < .05). The NWC approach boosted IPCP behaviors and learning engagement, fostering a collaborative learning environment that improves outcomes through interdisciplinary interactions. Healthcare settings could benefit from adopting the NWC approach to enhance clinicians' IPCP competency.

Addressing health disparities through community engagement and interprofessional partnerships is increasingly critical. However, learner-led approaches that integrate medical students, resident physicians, and social work students are not well-studied. We designed a learner-led, interprofessional, public health campaign for a majority Hispanic community, with the goals of building interprofessional leadership skills, engaging learners to address COVID-19 inequities, and disseminating lessons learned. Faculty and students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Schools of Medicine and Social Work partnered with community leaders to pilot an interprofessional project supported by the American Association of Medical Colleges' Nurturing Experiences for Tomorrow's Community Leaders (AAMC NEXT) Award. We describe the process of selection of a 12-member learner team of medical students, resident physicians, and social work students, and how we enacted the project from December 2020 to June 2021. Lessons learned in implementing our learner-led, community-engaged, interprofessional approach included: building interprofessional leadership skills, setting member roles and responsibilities, instilling requisite knowledge and skills, engaging with the community, and disseminating research findings. These lessons can guide other institutions seeking community-engaged interprofessional projects with learners.

Background and Purpose: To describe student pharmacist's application of the Pharmacists' Patient Care Process (PPCP) during participation in an interprofessional introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) at a Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) pediatric summer camp., Educational Activity and Setting: Student pharmacists entering professional year two (P2) and three (P3) attended a one-week, overnight T1D summer camp as part of the longitudinal IPPE curriculum between June 2021 and July 2023. They completed two PPCP assignments, a reflective assignment and a self-evaluation following the experience., Findings: Thirty-seven students attended camp. The most common PPCP assignments submitted corresponded to the collaborate core competency (75.6%) and the implement (51.4%) and collect (27.0%) steps. Written reflections revealed students learned about therapeutic monitoring of diabetes, hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia management, insulin dose adjustment, and lifestyle strategies such as carbohydrate counting. Many students expressed feeling increased empathy (59.5%) and inspiration (56.8%) toward individuals with T1D. Students reflected positively on their experience working with an interprofessional team. Self-evaluations indicated perceived competency in all steps and core areas of the PPCP, especially in communication., Discussion: Overall, student feedback indicates inclusion of camp as a non-traditional pharmacy practice site provides ample opportunity to apply the PPCP through participation and interprofessional decision-making opportunities in patient care. Our findings demonstrate camp provided the ability to partake in activities that encompass every step and core component of the PPCP. Immersion in the camp environment allowed early learners to feel competent in their ability to engage in the PPCP and communicate with patients and healthcare professionals., Summary: Participation in a T1D summer camp provided early student pharmacists exposure to direct patient care and opportunity to apply the PPCP in an interprofessional education environment. Students learned clinical diabetes knowledge and skills, in addition to increased empathy and a feeling of inspiration. Background: Achieving optimal collaboration between general practitioners and hospital-based critical care doctors is vital yet challenging, necessitating targeted collaborative training during residency. Despite apparent benefits, implementing intraprofessional learning faces constraints. Understanding its occurrence is crucial for engaging and educating residents. Considering boundaries' learning potential, we developed and evaluated an educational programme for general practitioner (GP) and paediatric (P) residents in paediatric emergency care based on Akkerman's Boundary Crossing Theory. The study investigated how intraprofessional learning mechanisms occurred and what learning conditions facilitated or impeded learning of GP and P residents, aiming to optimise educational programme design for intraprofessional collaboration., Methods: We developed an educational programme with three activities: joint medical assessments of paediatric patients in each other's context, mutually mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercises (mini-CEXs) about intraprofessional collaboration skills and educational meetings about collaborative care. We performed a qualitative study with a constructivist approach to explore experiences of the programme. We conducted focus group interviews and analysed mini-CEXs, utilising Boundary Crossing theory for template analysis., Results: Ten GP and eight P residents participated in our study. Learning mechanisms of identification and coordination dominated the joint medical assessments. Mini-CEXs stimulated reflection. Educational meetings with supervisors about intraprofessional barriers initiated transformation. Facilitated learning conditions were bidirectional crossing, enthusiastic supervisors, residents being familiar with each other, clear mini-CEX design and authentic paediatric cases. Unclear mutual expectations during joint medical assessments impeded learning of residents., Conclusions: Working in each other's context triggers learning mechanisms of identification, coordination and reflection, forming the basis for intraprofessional learning in paediatric emergency care for GP and P residents. For development of new collaboration practices, supervisors are necessary to translate reflection into transformation. Mutual responsibilities and expectations should be made more explicit to create a safer intraprofessional learning environment. Purpose: Effective interprofessional health care team (IHT) members collaborate to reduce medical errors, use resources effectively, and improve patient outcomes, making interprofessional collaboration imperative. Because physicians are often designated as the positional leaders of IHTs, understanding their perspectives on collaboration within IHTs could help to mitigate the disconnects between what is suggested in theory and what is happening in practice. This study aimed to explore leader-follower dynamics within medical teams that are commonly working in clinical care contexts., Method: Using a constructivist approach, the authors conducted 12 individual, semistructured interviews from November 2022 to September 2023 with attending physicians who have led IHTs in perioperative (i.e., preoperative clinic, operating room, postoperative and recovery unit) or emergency department settings. The transcripts were analyzed from December 2022 to December 2023 using inductive thematic analysis., Results: Three themes explained the physician perceptions of IHT leadership-followership dynamics: (1) physicians are comfortable sharing leadership intra professionally, (2) the clinical culture and environment constrain interprofessional followership and shared leadership, and (3) hierarchical models hold true even while active followers are appreciated, when appropriate., Conclusions: The data in this study suggest that, in perioperative and emergency department settings, shared leadership largely may not occur inter professionally but occurs intra professionally. Participants suggested that the clinical culture and environment (i.e., legal concerns, hierarchical assumption, patient care ownership responsibilities) constrained interprofessional followership and shared leadership. On the basis of the study's findings and how they align with previous research, future research into interprofessional collaboration and followership roles should focus on what factors enable and constrain active followership and shared leadership. Such collaboration can only be achieved when active followership and shared leadership are allowed and promoted. Objectives: The interruption to clinical professions' instruction due to closures from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic posed a significant hurdle to clinical education and presented a necessity to shift how instruction was delivered to resume educational activities. This study sought to answer the research question: did the transition from in-person to virtual instruction for interprofessional education (IPE) have an impact on students' perceptions of team attitudes and skills to learn and work in interprofessional groups?, Methods: All participating first-year dental and second-year dental hygiene students enrolled in the campus-wide IPE course were invited to complete the Team Skills Scale (TSS) assessment before and after the course for two academic years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. Paired t-tests were utilized to assess the change in student attitudes and skills from pre- to post-course assessment, and t-tests were used to assess mean differences between student cohorts 2019-2020 and 2020-2021., Results: Within the student cohort 2019-2020 students reported significant improvement in all TSS items. Within the student cohort, 2020-2021 students reported significant improvement in all but three TSS items. There were only significant differences in mean values for student reported improvement in attitudes and skills for two TSS items between the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 cohorts., Conclusions: Dental and dental hygiene students report significant improvement in team attitudes and skills after participation in a campus-wide IPE course. Aim: To examine the level of adherence to best-practice guidelines of interprofessional teams with acute care nurse practitioners (ACNPs) compared to interprofessional teams without ACNPs., Design: A retrospective observational study was conducted in 2023., Method: A retrospective cohort was created including 280 patients who underwent a coronary artery bypass graft and/or a valve repair and hospitalised in a cardiac surgery unit of a university affiliated hospital in Québec (Canada) between 1 January 2019 to 31 January 2020. The level of adherence to best-practice guidelines was measured from a composite score in percentage. The composite score was created from a newly developed tool including 99 items across six categories (patient information, pharmacotherapy, laboratory tests, post-operative assessment, patient and interprofessional teams' characteristics). Multivariate linear and logistic regression models were computed to examine the effect of interprofessional teams with ACNPs on the level of adherence to best-practice guidelines., Results: Most of the patients of the cohort were male and underwent a coronary artery bypass graft procedure. Abstract: Competence in interprofessional collaboration is essential for safe patient outcomes. This study examined the impact of an interprofessional telehealth pharmacology simulation on prelicensure nursing and pharmacy students' perceptions of interprofessional roles. A pretest-posttest design was used to compare participants' perceptions of interprofessional roles prior to and following the simulation. Data were collected using the Interdisciplinary Education Perception Scale (IEPS). Paired-samples t -tests showed statistically significant increases in scores for both the full IEPS ( n = 99) and two subscales, Competency and Autonomy ( n = 99) and Perception of Actual Cooperation ( n = 99). University core curricula and accreditation standards for healthcare profession programs can be challenging to align. Additionally, interprofessional education (IPE) requirements for healthcare professions curricula have been designed to prepare learners for future practice. This paper describes alignment of an introductory IPE course with embedded Interprofessional Education Collaborative core competencies to specific university Core Curriculum attributes. A cross-sectional, mixed methods design was used to examine 117 learners' reflections on the IPE course content and learning outcomes. Learners from seven pre-licensure health professions programs provided responses on aspects of their IPE learning experience through reflections, surveys, written examinations, and optional focus groups. Open-ended responses were interpreted thematically from a constructivist lens. Results revealed positive perceptions of the course with feedback for areas of consideration for future course activities. Learners reported more engagement with the Core Curriculum attribute of Identities in Context than that of Global Interdependence. Additionally, responses indicated a perception of task work versus teamwork within the interprofessional team activities. Outcomes provided data that enabled continuous quality improvement of the course. Educators seeking to align IPE courses with institutional core curricula and accreditation standards may use this work to inform structure, assessment, and delineation of teamwork as compared to task work.

Despite collaboration among different professions being recognized as fundamentally important to contemporary and future healthcare practice, the concept is woefully undertheorized. This has implications for how health professions educators might best introduce students to interprofessional collaboration and support their transition into interprofessional, collaborative workplaces. To address this, we engage in a conceptual analysis of published collaborative, interprofessional practices and conceptual understandings in theatre, as a highly collaborative art form and industry, to advance thinking in the health professions, specifically to inform interprofessional education. Our analysis advances a conceptualization of collaboration that takes place within a work culture of creativity and community, that includes four modes of collaboration, or the ways theatre practitioners collaborate, by: (1) paying attention to and traversing roles and hierarchies; (2) engaging in reciprocal listening and challenging of others; (3) developing trust and communication, and; (4) navigating uncertainty, risk and failure. We conclude by inviting those working in the health professions to consider what might be gleaned from our conceptualization, where the embodied and human-centred aspects of working together are attended to alongside structural and organizational aspects., (© 2024. Teaching students to 'notice' what is happening around them, to be more attuned to what is going on within themselves, and nurturing self-inquiry into one's practice is desirable yet difficult to achieve. We sought to teach the metacognitive skill of 'noticing' to pre-registration health professions students in the context of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP). A three-part curriculum was designed: an e-module focused on 'noticing' in IPCP; a team-based workplace learning observation and interprofessional debrief; and a written reflective assignment. We found that students concentrated on the disciplinary content of IPCP in the assignments, which 'overshadowed' the metacognitive content. We learned that: we had underestimated the challenges of retrofitting new content into existing curricula; that we had not paid enough attention to students' perceptions about what they want to learn; and working with a large and diverse group of educators requires adequate preparation. The next iteration of this program will improve the constructive alignment between learning outcomes and assessments and provide better support for educators. In the future we will temper decisions to act quickly to implement curricular innovations. More broadly, we suggest that educational design that seeks to take account of qualitatively different but intersecting knowledge domains, such as IPCP and 'noticing', is worthy of further study.

Aims: Digital health transformation may enhance or impede person-centred care and interprofessional practice, and thus the provision of high-quality rehabilitation and nutrition services. We aimed to understand how different elements and factors within existing digital nutrition and health systems in subacute rehabilitation units influence person-centred and/or interprofessional nutrition and mealtime care practices through the lens of complexity science., Methods: Our ethnographic study was completed through an interpretivist paradigm. Data were collected from observation and interviews with patients, support persons and staff. Overall, 58 h of ethnographic field work led to observing 125 participants and interviewing 77 participants, totalling 165 unique participants. We used reflexive thematic analysis to analyse the data with consideration of complexity science., Results: We developed four themes: (1) the interplay of local context and technology use in nutrition care systems; (2) digitalisation affects staff participation in nutrition and mealtime care; (3) embracing technology to support nutrition and food service flexibility; and (4) the (in)visibility of digitally enabled nutrition care systems., Conclusions: While digital systems enhance the visibility and flexibility of nutrition care systems in some instances, they may also reduce the ability to customise nutrition and mealtime care and lead to siloing of nutrition-related activities. Our findings highlight that the introduction of digital systems alone may be insufficient to enable interprofessional practice and person-centred care within nutrition and mealtime care and thus should be accompanied by local processes and workflows to maximise digital potential., (© 2023 The Authors. Clinicians are increasingly required to work and learn interprofessionally, yet few studies explore the nature of being interprofessional. The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience of clinicians who identify as interprofessional or have an interprofessional identity. Interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) was applied as a qualitative research approach and analytical method. Fifteen key informants from a range of professions, settings, and roles were recruited via purposive sampling. Data was collected via semi-structured interviews, observation of participants' day-to-day practice, and review of organizational documents, and analyzed using IPA. Six interdependent Group Experiential Themes were developed: (i) The power of person-centered holistic care, (ii) Learning and growth through curiosity, reflection, and willingness to be vulnerable, (iii) Welcomes, values, and empowers all others, (iv) Trust and mutual respect through belonging and connection, (v) The contribution of background and previous experiences, and (vi) The influence of workplace context. Each Group Experiential Theme had between two and nine sub-themes. Results support the value of understanding and making explicit the concepts that comprise clinician interprofessional identity. The findings can be used to support clinicians, educators, leaders, and policy makers to develop and sustain interprofessional identity, and subsequently cultivate a culture of interprofessional collaborative practice. Future research is needed to further explore the themes, investigate their inter-relationships, and present the concepts that comprise clinician interprofessional identity in a way that is accessible to healthcare professionals and facilitates their integration into practice.

Background: There has been significant investment in pharmacists working in UK general practice to improve the effective and safe use of medicines. However, evidence of how to optimise collaboration between GPs and pharmacists in the context of polypharmacy (multiple medication) is lacking., Aim: To explore GP and pharmacist views and experiences of in-person, interprofessional collaborative discussions (IPCDs) as part of a complex intervention to optimise medication use for patients with polypharmacy in general practice., Design and Setting: A mixed-method process evaluation embedded within the Improving Medicines use in People with Polypharmacy in Primary Care (IMPPP) trial conducted in Bristol and the West Midlands, between February 2021 and September 2023., Method: Audio-recordings of IPCDs between GPs and pharmacists, along with individual semi-structured interviews to explore their reflections on these discussions, were used. All recordings were transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically., Results: A total of 14 practices took part in the process evaluation from February 2022 to September 2023; 17 IPCD meetings were audio-recorded, discussing 30 patients (range 1-6 patients per meeting). In all, six GPs and 13 pharmacists were interviewed. The IPCD was highly valued by GPs and pharmacists who described benefits, including: strengthening their working relationship; gaining in confidence to manage more complex patients; and learning from each other. It was often challenging, however, to find time for the IPCDs., Conclusion: The model of IPCD used in this study provided protected time for GPs and pharmacists to work together to deliver whole-patient care, with both professions finding this beneficial. Background: (1) The level of availability influences hospital interprofessional practices., Background: (2)  Difficulties in interprofessional communication impede collaborative practices., Background: (3)  There is resistance to the adoption of interprofessional practices related to education., Background: (4)  Residencies are important spaces to develop interprofessional practices., to evaluate the level of availability of residents and preceptors for interprofessional practices., mixed methods study of the concurrent triangulation type, carried out with residents and preceptors of a hospital Multiprofessional Residency in Health., more than 90% (n=186) of participants are highly available for interprofessional practices. However, practices instituted during undergraduate studies and the professional profile of those involved, especially with regard to the lack of communication between professions and openness to dialogue, were indicated as difficulties in implementing interprofessionality in the scenario investigated, which may negatively influence the availability of residents and preceptors., although residents and preceptors have high availability for the development of interprofessionality, certain factors make its implementation difficult, hindering collaborative work.

Objective: To assess the feasibility of a collaborative programme among community pharmacies and the health care centre of the area., Design: Qualitative study. SITE: The collaboration program was implemented at the La Jota Health Care Center and community pharmacies in La Jota., Participants: The respective professionals from the Health Care Center and the community pharmacies., Methods: A collaboration program was agreed between the Health Care Center and the pharmacies of La Jota health area. The design of the Program was carried out following the steps of the theoretical framework for the development of Intervention Mapping Pharmaceutical Professional Services. The programme was implemented on March, 2021., Results: Since the beginning of the program, a total of 16690 electronic prescription renewal messages have been sent. Pharmacists have made 421 visa renewal applications and 394 drug related problems have been notified. The health care centre has sent periodical notifications to community pharmacies for its dissemination among the patients. Satisfaction of all participants is high and the program has been feasible and sustainable in La Jota health area., Conclusions: This program contributes to solve the serious problems of saturation of primary care, with a high satisfaction of all the agents involved and with an economic investment of zero euros, so it could be implemented in other Basic Health Areas., (Copyright © 2024 The Author(s). Sam Foster, Executive Director of Professional Practice, Nursing and Midwifery Council, considers how a professional and civil approach to colleagues and patients aids staff and patient health and wellbeing.

Background: Interprofessional education is crucial for healthcare students to develop collaborative skills and provide effective patient care. However, opportunities for interprofessional learning are often limited in healthcare curricula. The present study aimed to engage students from different health professions in co-designing an educational resource on delirium recognition and management through an interprofessional lens and explore their experiences of this process., Methods: Two co-design workshops were conducted with students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and occupational therapy programmes at two universities across the island of Ireland. Focus groups were held following these workshops to explore students' experiences of the co-design process. The workshops involved a range of activities, including theme generation, scenario development, resource creation (podcasts, simulations), and focus group discussions. Data from focus groups were analysed thematically., Results: A total of 19 students participated across the two workshops. Three themes were identified: (1) Relationship development, where students identified the benefits of co-creating the resource and valued the flexibility, collaboration, and social aspects of the co-design approach; (2) Interprofessional collaboration, which challenged students' assumptions about other disciplines, fostered teamwork and communication, and highlighted the need for early and continuous interprofessional learning; (3) Professional growth, with students reporting increased confidence in managing delirium, working with other professions, and engaging in novel experiences like podcasting and simulation., Conclusions: The co-design process facilitated interprofessional collaboration, peer learning, and personal growth among healthcare students. Students appreciated the opportunity to co-create an educational resource while developing interprofessional skills.
