Metasurfaces have facilitated numerous innovative applications in the scope of nonlinear optics. However, dynamically tuning the nonlinear response at the pixel level is very challenging. Recent work proposed a novel method to electrically manipulate the local amplitude and phase of third-harmonics generation (THG) by integrating the giant nonlinear responses resulting from intersubband transitions of multiple quantum wells (MQW) with plasmonic nano-resonator. The demonstrated method may pave the way to realize nonlinear optical elements with versatile functionalities by electrically tuning and promoting the advancements of innovative applications such as lidar, 3D displays, optical encryption, optical computing, and so on., (© 2024. The present study aimed to identify and verify new plasma protein markers to predict the female fecundability level. A nested case-control study was conducted involving couples who participated in the Chinese National Free Preconception Check-up Project. Women who successfully conceive within one year were defined as the high fecundability group, and those unable to conceive were defined as the low fecundability group. In the training cohort, potential protein biomarkers were identified using proteomics technology and were further tested in a validation cohort by the Western blotting assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and biochemical tests. Meanwhile, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were used to evaluate the predictive value. Cox proportional hazard regression analyses were conducted to calculate hazard ratios; restricted cubic spline analysis was used to assess the linear relationship between the the protein level and hazard ratios for fecundability. Pyruvate, a key product of glycolysis, was significantly increased in the high fecundability group ( P < 0.01) compared to the low fecundability group, and its area under the curve value was 0.68 ( P < 0.05). There was a linear positive dose-response association between the pyruvate level and fecundability possibility (hazard ratios = 1.66, 95% CI: 1.07-2.59, p for trend = 0.025, nonlinearity, p -value = 0.2927).

Purpose: To compare the diagnosis and clinical features of tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome (TINU) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: Retrospective chart review., Results: Before the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2017 to March 2019), 1/561 (0.18%) new patient was diagnosed with TINU. During the pandemic (March 2020 to March 2022), 15/581 (2.58%) new patients were diagnosed with TINU. We found a significant increase in TINU cases during the pandemic (P=0.0005). Various posterior segment findings were observed in 2/3 (66.7%) patients before the pandemic and 13/15 (86.7%) patients during the pandemic, including disc edema, chorioretinal scars, disc leakage, and peripheral vascular leakage., Conclusion: This is the first study reporting an increased number of TINU during the COVID-19 pandemic. With most of the American population now exposed to COVID-19, a large multi-center epidemiological study would be helpful to investigate any association of COVID-19 disease or vaccination with TINU in recent years.

Background: Previous studies linked neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with short-term mortality after acute ischemic stroke (AIS), but its relationship with long-term mortality remains unclear. This study investigates the association between NLR and five-year mortality in AIS patients., Method: We analyzed 416 AIS patients from April 2012 to January 2016 at Zhangjiagang TCM Hospital. Admission NLR was divided into quartiles: Q1 (<2.00), Q2 (2.00-3.05), Q3 (3.06-5.46), and Q4 (≥5.46). We assessed 5-year all-cause and vascular mortality using Kaplan-Meier, Cox regression, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses., Results: Over five years, 134 (32.2 %) all-cause deaths and 114 (27.4 %) vascular deaths occurred. Elevated NLR was significantly associated with increased risks of all-cause and vascular mortality. Multivariate Cox analysis identified stroke history (HR: 1.57, 95 % CI 1.08-2.30), baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (HR: 1.09, 95 % CI 1.05-1.12), and NLR (HR: 1.09, 95 % CI 1.05-1.12) as independent risk factors for all-cause mortality. These factors also predicted 5-year vascular mortality: stroke history (HR: 1.65, 95 % CI 1.10-2.49), NIHSS score (HR: 1.10, 95 % CI 1.06-1.13), and NLR (HR: 1.08, 95 % CI 1.05-1.10). NLR quartiles were significantly linked to both outcomes: all-cause mortality HRs were Q2 (1.87, 95 % CI 1.00-3.51), Q3 (2.40, 95 % CI 1.31-4.39), Q4 (2.77, 95 % CI 1.47-5.24), P for trend = 0.001; vascular mortality HRs were Q2 (1.76, 95 % CI 0.88-3.55), Q3 (2.34, 95 % CI 1.14-4.40), Q4 (2.57, 95 % CI 1.28-5.16), P for trend = 0.002. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed significantly higher mortality rates in higher NLR quartiles (log-rank p < 0.001). The present study aims to explore the potential changing trajectory patterns of body mass index (BMI) for Chinese young adults and identify the relationship of BMI trajectory patterns with kidney stone disease (KSD) incidence. Latent class growth analysis was used to identify distinct trajectories of BMI during young adulthood. Cox proportion hazard models were conducted to explore the association between the BMI trajectory group memberships and incident KSD. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were undertaken to test the robustness of the findings. In total, 2,966 young adults who attended at least three annual check-ups from 2014 to 2021 without KSD at baseline were enrolled in the cohort analysis. Three district BMI trajectories were identified for young adults, labeled as low-stable in normal BMI (28.5%), medium-rising to high BMI (67.4%), and rapid-rising to high BMI (4.1%). Compared with the low-stable in normal BMI group, Hazard ratios (HRs) of the rapid-rising and medium-rising to high BMI groups were 3.19 (95% CI: 1.54-6.63) and 1.78 (95% CI: 1.08-2.92) after adjusting the covariates. The cumulative incidence curves likewise illustrated that young adults in the rapid-rising to high BMI group had the highest risk of developing KSD compared to the other two groups. The rapid BMI growth trajectories during young adulthood were identified to be independently associated with a higher risk of KSD. Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common malignant tumor in men. Currently, there are few prognosis indicators for predicting PCa outcomes and guiding treatments. Here, we perform comprehensive proteomic profiling of 918 tissue specimens from 306 Chinese patients with PCa using data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS). We identify over 10,000 proteins and define three molecular subtypes of PCa with significant clinical and proteomic differences. We develop a 16-protein panel that effectively predicts biochemical recurrence (BCR) for patients with PCa, which is validated in six published datasets and one additional 99-biopsy-sample cohort by targeted proteomics. Interestingly, this 16-protein panel effectively predicts BCR across different International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grades and pathological stages and outperforms the D'Amico risk classification system in BCR prediction. Furthermore, double knockout of NUDT5 and SEPTIN8, two components from the 16-protein panel, significantly suppresses the PCa cells to proliferate, invade, and migrate, suggesting the combination of NUDT5 and SEPTIN8 may provide new approaches for PCa treatment., Competing Interests: Declaration of interests T.G. is a shareholder of Westlake Omics, Inc. Non-radiative optical modes attracted enormous attention in optics due to strong light confinement and giant Q-factor at its spectral position. The destructive interference of multipoles leads to zero net-radiation and strong field trapping. Such radiationless states disappear in the far-field, localize enhanced near-field and can be excited in nano-structures. On the other hand, the optical modes turn out to be completely confined due to no losses at discrete point in the radiation continuum, such states result in infinite Q-factor and lifetime. The radiationless states provide a suitable platform for enhanced light matter interaction, lasing, and boost nonlinear processes at the state regime. These modes are widely investigated in different material configurations for various applications in both linear and nonlinear metasurfaces which are briefly discussed in this review., (© 2024. Nicotine is the primary addictive component of cigarette smoke and is associated with various smoking-related diseases. However, recent research has revealed its broader cognitive-enhancing and anti-inflammatory properties, suggesting its potential therapeutic applications in several conditions. This review aims to examine the double-edged nature of nicotine, encompassing its positive and negative effects. We provide a concise overview of the physiochemical properties and pharmacology of nicotine, including insights into nicotine receptors. Therefore, the article is divided into two main sections: toxicity and therapeutic potential. We comprehensively explored nicotine-related diseases, focusing on specific signaling pathways and the underlying mechanisms that contribute to its effects. Furthermore, we addressed the current research challenges and future development perspectives. Objective: The correlation between cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) progression and bile is rarely studied. Here, we aimed to identify differential metabolites in benign and malignant bile ducts and elucidate the generation, function and degradation of bile metabolites., Design: Differential metabolites in the bile from CCA and benign biliary stenosis were identified by metabonomics. Biliary molecules able to induce mast cell (MC) degranulation were revealed by in vitro and in vivo experiments, including liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (MS)/MS and bioluminescence resonance energy transfer assays. Histamine (HA) receptor expression in CCA was mapped using a single-cell mRNA sequence. HA receptor functions were elucidated by patient-derived xenografts (PDX) in humanised mice and orthotopic models in MC-deficient mice. Genes involved in HA-induced proliferation were screened by CRISPR/Cas9., Results: Bile HA was elevated in CCA and indicated poorer prognoses. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs)-derived stem cell factor (SCF) recruited MCs, and bile N,N-dimethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (DMPD) stimulated MCs to release HA through G protein-coupled receptor subtype 2 (MRGPRX2)-Gαq signalling. Bile-induced MCs released platelet-derived growth factor subunit B (PDGF-B) and angiopoietin 1/2 (ANGPT1/2), which enhanced CCA angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Histamine receptor H1 (HRH1) and HRH2 were predominantly expressed in CCA cells and CAFs, respectively. HA promoted CCA cell proliferation by activating HRH1-Gαq signalling and hastened CAFs to secrete hepatocyte growth factor by stimulating HRH2-Gαs signalling. Solute carrier family 22 member 3 (SLC22A3) inhibited HA-induced CCA proliferation by importing bile HA into cells for degradation, and SLC22A3 deletion resulted in HA accumulation., Conclusion: Bile HA is released from MCs through DMPD stimulation and degraded via SLC22A3 import. Different HA receptors exhibit a distinct expression profile in CCA and produce different oncogenic effects. Near-infrared (NIR) spectral information is important for detecting and analyzing material compositions. However, snapshot NIR spectral imaging systems still pose significant challenges owing to the lack of high-performance NIR filters and bulky setups, preventing effective encoding and integration with mobile devices. This study introduces a snapshot spectral imaging system that employs a compact NIR metasurface featuring 25 distinct C 4 symmetry structures. Benefitting from the sufficient spectral variety and low correlation coefficient among these structures, center-wavelength accuracy of 0.05 nm and full width at half maximum accuracy of 0.13 nm are realized. The system maintains good performance within an incident angle of 1°. A novel meta-attention network prior iterative denoising reconstruction (MAN-IDR) algorithm is developed to achieve high-quality NIR spectral imaging. By leveraging the designed metasurface and MAN-IDR, the NIR spectral images, exhibiting precise textures, minimal artifacts in the spatial dimension, and little crosstalk between spectral channels, are reconstructed from a single grayscale recording image. Background: Widespread application of controlled-release pesticide delivery systems is a feasible and effective method to improve the utilization efficiency of pesticides. However, owing to the high cost and complicated preparation technologies of controlled-release pesticide delivery systems, their applications in agricultural production have been seriously hindered., Results: This study aimed to construct inexpensive photothermally controlled-release pesticide delivery systems using chitosan (CS) and sodium lignosulfonate (LS) as the wall materials, and a coordination assembly strategy of LS with transition metal ions to encapsulate a model pesticide, avermectin (AVM). The resulting complex or nanoparticle photothermal layers in these systems effectively achieved photothermal conversions, and replaced the use of common photothermal agents. In the prepared pesticide-delivery systems, two systems had remarkable photothermal conversion performance and photothermal stabilities with a photothermal conversion efficiency (η) of 24.03% and 28.82%, respectively, under 808 nm, 2 W near-infrared irradiation. The slow-release and ultraviolet-shielding performance of these two systems were markedly enhanced compared with other formulations. The insecticidal activities of these two systems against Plutella xylostella under irradiation with light-emitting diode (LED)-simulated sunlight were also enhanced by 5.20- and 5.06-fold, respectively, compared with that without irradiation of LED-simulated sunlight., Conclusion: Because of their convenient preparations, inexpensive and renewable raw materials, and excellent photothermally controlled-release performance, these on-demand pesticide delivery systems might have significant potential in improving the utilization efficiency of pesticides in modern agriculture. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry., (© 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.)

Background: This study aimed to investigate the perinatal factors and early neonatal outcomes of abnormal birth weight (ABW) in Hangzhou, China from 2015 to 2021., Methods: A retrospective cohort study was designed to analyse the data of 76 847 newborns, in which the case groups included 3042 cases of low birth weight (LBW) and 2941 cases of fetal macrosomia (MAC), and 70 864 cases of normal weight were as the reference group., Results: The incidence of LBW and MAC was 3.96% and 3.83% in Hangzhou, China from 2015 to 2021. Prematurity (<37 weeks), multiple births, hospitalisation >7 days, fetal anomalies, caesarean section, pregnancy complications, maternal coinfection with pathogens and summer births would be correlated with the incidence of LBW (ORs=43.50, 7.60, 2.09, 1.89, 1.57, 1.28, 1.19 and 1.18, all p<0.05). Factors such as post-term pregnancy (>41 weeks), scarred uterus, anterior vaginal incision and gravidity ≥2 were correlated with decreased incidence of LBW, with ORs of 0.05, 0.54, 0.65 and 0.80. Moreover, caesarean delivery, post-term pregnancy (> 41 weeks), parity ≥1, lateral vaginal incision, gravidity ≥2, hospitalisation >7 days, winter births and pregnancy complications also have association with the incidence of MAC (ORs=3.92, 2.73, 2.19, 1.87, 1.22, 1.20, 1.17 and 1.13, all p<0.05) while prematurity (<37 weeks), scarred uterus and anterior vaginal incision have close association with decreased incidence of MAC, with ORs of 0.07, 0.21 and 0.74 (all p<0.05)., Conclusion: There was a trend of yearly increase in ABW in Hangzhou, China from 2015 to 2021. Several neonatal and maternal-related variables such as caesarean section, pregnancy complications and hospitalisation >7 days are associated with the odds of LBW and MAC, however, factors such as pregnancy with scarred uterus relate to the decrease of ABW. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a rare and heterogeneous disease. Over the past few decades, patient prognosis has improved with continuous improvements in treatment, but outcomes for some patients with primary drug resistance or relapse after treatment remain poor. Additional therapies to improve outcomes for these patients are urgently needed. FYB1 expression differs substantially between AML tissues and normal tissues. High FYB1 expression is correlated with poorer overall survival (OS), indicating that FYB1 may regulate AML progression. Therefore, understanding the effect of FYB1 on AML could improve the success rate of therapeutic approaches and prognosis for patients with AML. In this study, through analysis of large databases and both in vivo and in vitro experiments, we assessed the expression and role of FYB1 in AML and the relationship of FYB with patient prognosis. Downstream targets of the FYB1 gene were analyzed by RNA-seq. Database mining and in vitro experiments were used to further clarify the effect of the downstream target gelsolin-like actin-capping protein (CAPG) on AML cells and its relationship with patient prognosis. FYB1 expression was significantly higher in AML tissue and corresponded with a poor prognosis. FYB1 knockdown inhibited AML cell proliferation, promoted cell apoptosis, reduced cell adhesion capability and significantly reduced the tumor formation rate in mice. In addition, FYB1 knockdown induced a notable decrease in CAPG expression. The suppression of CAPG significantly inhibited cell proliferation and increased cell apoptosis. The conclusions of this study underscore the pivotal role of the FYB1/CAPG axis in promoting AML. Multi-dimensional multiplexed metasurface holography extends holographic information capacity and promises revolutionary advancements for vivid imaging, information storage, and encryption. However, achieving multifunctional metasurface holography by forward design method is still difficult because it relies heavily on Jones matrix engineering, which places high demands on physical knowledge and processing technology. To break these limitations and simplify the design process, here, an end-to-end inverse design framework is proposed. By directly linking the metasurface to the reconstructed images and employing a loss function to guide the update of metasurface, the calculation of hologram can be omitted; thus, greatly simplifying the design process. In addition, the requirements on the completeness of meta-library can also be significantly reduced, allowing multi-channel hologram to be achieved using meta-atoms with only two degrees of freedom, which is very friendly to processing. By exploiting the proposed method, metasurface hologram containing up to 12 channels of multi-wavelength, multi-plane, and multi-polarization is designed and experimentally demonstrated, which exhibits the state-of-the-art information multiplexing capacity of the metasurface composed of simple meta-atoms. Antinutritional factors in feedstuffs may limit their utilization in livestock production, but fermentation process can be used to improve feed quality; however, studies on fermented soybeans for laying hens remain limited. We investigated the effect of fermented soybean meal (FSBM) at various inclusion levels as a partial replacement for soybean meal (SBM) on egg production, egg quality, amino acid digestibility, gut morphology and microbiota, antioxidant capacity and immune response of young laying hens. A total of 360 Hy-line Brown laying hens aged 18 weeks were selected and divided into 5 groups of 6 replicates each and 12 birds per replicate. The control group received a basal diet while the trial group received the basal diet with FSBM included at 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5% and 10.0%, respectively, for 12 weeks. Our findings revealed that the nutritional value of FSBM was higher compared to that of SBM in terms of reduced content of trypsin inhibitors and increased contents of crude protein, amino acids and minerals. FSBM enhanced egg production ( P  < 0.05), feed-to-egg ratio ( P  < 0.05), and albumen quality (albumen height and Haugh unit) ( P  < 0.05). Furthermore, FSBM improved apparent fecal amino acid digestibility ( P  < 0.05), gut morphology (increased villus height, villus width, villus height-to-crypt depth ratio and decreased crypt depth) ( P  < 0.05), antioxidant capacity (reduced malondialdehyde and increased catalase, total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant capacity) ( P  < 0.05) and immune function (increased concentrations of IgG, IgA, and IgM; increased levels of transforming growth factor beta and Toll-like receptor 2; and reduced levels of interleukin 1β and tumor necrosis factor alpha) ( P  < 0.05). Further analysis showed that FSBM altered the composition of the gut microbiota favoring beneficial microbes. These findings suggest that probiotic fermentation improved the nutritional value of SBM. International carbon allocation confronts the conflict between efficiency and equality. Previous research based on the intergroup bias perspective has attributed carbon allocation preference to the defence of ingroup interests (i.e., national interests) while overlooking the critical role of trade-offs between competing moral values. Integrating the contingency theory of justice and moral philosophical theories of utilitarianism and egalitarianism, we proposed that the moral-values trade-off between utilitarianism and egalitarianism determines carbon allocation preference through justice reasoning. Analysis of large-scale survey datasets (Study 1) revealed that aggregated national endorsement of utilitarianism over egalitarianism predicted greater efficiency preference in total and per capita carbon emission levels. Study 2 demonstrated that experimentally manipulating endorsement of utilitarianism versus egalitarianism boosted efficiency (vs. equality) preference in carbon allocation, and justice reasoning characterized by enhanced efficiency-focused justice and diminished equality-focused justice accounted for these effects. Using a 'manipulation-of-mediator' design, Study 3 further confirmed the causal link in the mediation model. Previous studies have reported mixed findings on how and why unethical behavior affects self-esteem. To address this issue, a contingent dual-process model is proposed and tested. The model postulates a negative impact of unethical behavior on self-esteem through decreased morality, a positive effect through increased competence, and the relative strength of these two paths depending on system-justifying motives. Studies using unethical behavior for self-interest (Studies 1 and 2), involving ingroup interest (Study 3), and measuring (Studies 1 and 3) and manipulating general system justification (Study 2) provide support for the model. By identifying the effects of system-justifying motives and linking the two competing paths, the model reconciles inconsistencies in previous research regarding how self-esteem is influenced by unethical behavior and reveals the underlying mechanism of this association. Objective: To explore the clinical application of preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (PGT-M) in an unique case with Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 2+0., Methods: A special SMA family presented at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University on October 19, 2020 was selected as the study subject. Multiple ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and molecular tagging linkage analysis were carried out to identify the SMN1 genotype of the couple and their fetus. Subsequently, next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular tagging linkage analysis, and chromosomal microarray analysis were employed to determine the haplotypes and validate the result of PGT-M on the 11 embryos derived for the couple., Results: The female partner was identified as a carrier of the rare SMN1[2+0] variant, and prenatal diagnosis confirmed the fetus to be affected by SMA. Ultimately, PGT-M has successfully selected four embryos free from the pathogenic SMN1 variants and X chromosome deletion., Conclusion: PGT-M can effectively prevent the transmission of rare genetic variants such as the SMA 2+0 subtype in the families. The development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) may worsen due to chronic stress or prolonged use of glucocorticoids. Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 3 (GPAT3), has a function in obesity and serves as a key rate-limiting enzyme that regulates triglyceride synthesis. However, the precise impact of GPAT3 on corticosterone (CORT)-induced NAFLD and its underlying molecular mechanism remain unclear. For our in vivo experiments, we utilized male and female mice that were GPAT3 -/- and wild type (WT) and treated them with CORT for a duration of 4 weeks. In our in vitro experiments, we transfected AML12 cells with GPAT3 siRNA and subsequently treated them with CORT. Under CORT-treated conditions, the absence of GPAT3 greatly improved obesity and hepatic steatosis while enhancing the expression of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation, as evidenced by our findings. In addition, the deletion of GPAT3 significantly inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), increased the expression of antioxidant genes, and recovered the mitochondrial membrane potential in AML12 cells treated with CORT. In terms of mechanism, the absence of GPAT3 encouraged the activation of the glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β)/nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway, which served as a defense mechanism against liver fat accumulation and oxidative stress. Furthermore, GPAT3 expression was directly controlled at the transcriptional level by the glucocorticoid receptor (GR). Metal pollution can cause a decline in female fertility, however, previous studies have focused more on the effect of a single metal on fertility. In this study, we evaluated the effect of metal mixtures on female fertility based on nested case-control samples. The plasma levels of 22 metal elements from 180 women were determined by an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Minimum absolute contraction and selection operator (LASSO) penalty regression selected metals with the greatest influence on clinical outcome. Logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between single metals and fertility while a Bayesian kernel function regression (BKMR) model was used to analyze the effect of mixed metals. Eight metals (Calcium (Ca), Chromium (Cr), Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Rubidium (Rb), Strontium (Sr) and Zirconium (Zr)) were selected by LASSO regression for subsequent analysis. After adjusting for covariates, the logistic model showed that Cu (Odds Ratio(OR):0.33, 95% CI: 0.13 - 0.84) and Co (OR:0.38, 95% CI: 0.15 -0.94) caused a significant reduction in fertility, and identified the protective effect of Zn (OR: 2.96, 95% CI:1.21 -7.50) on fertility. Trend tests showed that increased Cr, Cu, and Rb levels were associated with reduced fertility. The BKMR model showed that Cr, Co, Cu, and Rb had a nonlinear relationship with fertility decline when controlling for the concentrations of other metals and suggested that Cu and Cr might exert an influence on fertility. Analysis showed a negative correlation between Cu, Cr, Co, Rb, and fertility, and a positive correlation between Zn and fertility. Furthermore, we found evidence for the interaction between Cu and Cr. Purpose: To report a case of clinically diagnosed cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR) successfully treated with intravitreal corticosteroid implants without systemic immunosuppression., Methods: Case report with multimodal imaging., Results: An 80-year-old man without known systemic malignancy presented with debilitating shimmering, hemeralopia and rapidly progressive bilateral vision loss following uncomplicated cataract surgery. Mild vitritis, extensive photoreceptor loss, mottling of retinal pigmentary epithelium (RPE), and mild vascular attenuation were found in both eyes. Full field electroretinogram (ffERG) showed severe bilateral rod-cone dysfunction. Infectious etiologies and vitreoretinal lymphoma were ruled out. During cancer workup, intravitreal corticosteroid treatment was offered. Significant anatomical improvement with reconstitution of ellipsoid zone, improved RPE irregularities and functional improvement, were observed 3 weeks after bilateral intravitreal dexamethasone implants (Ozurdex). 2 months later, patient received bilateral intravitreal 0.18mg fluocinolone acetonide implants (YUTIQ). Later, a colonic adenocarcinoma was found (pathologic stage pT3 pN0). Patient recovered well from surgery and no chemotherapy was needed. 9 months since bilateral intravitreal fluocinolone acetonide implants (11 months since bilateral intravitreal dexamethasone implants), best corrected vision maintained at 20/25-2 OD, 20/20 OS without ongoing treatments. Bilateral reconstitution of ellipsoid zones and nearly resolution of RPE irregularities remained stable. Repeat ffERG demonstrated improved cone response OS and stable diminished rod response OU. Patient reports resolution of ocular symptoms., Conclusion: The sustained improvements with intravitreal corticosteroid monotherapy suggest potential advantages using local therapy over systemic treatment. Augmented reality (AR) display, as a next-generation innovative technology, is revolutionizing the ways of perceiving and communicating by overlaying virtual images onto real-world scenes. However, the current AR devices are often bulky and cumbersome, posing challenges for long-term wearability. Metasurfaces have flexible capabilities of manipulating light waves at subwavelength scales, making them as ideal candidates for replacing traditional optical elements in AR display devices. In this work, we propose and fabricate what we believe is a novel reflective polarization multiplexing gradient metasurface based on propagation phase principle to replace the optical combiner element in traditional AR display devices. Our designed metasurface exhibits different polarization modulations for reflected and transmitted light, enabling efficient deflection of reflected light while minimizing the impact on transmitted light. This work reveals the significant potential of metasurfaces in next-generation optical display systems and provides a reliable theoretical foundation for future integrated waveguide schemes, driving the development of next-generation optical display products towards lightweight and comfortable.

Background Aims: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a highly lethal malignancy originating from the biliary ducts. Current CCA diagnostic and prognostic assessments cannot satisfy the clinical requirement. Bile detection is rarely performed, and herein, we aim to estimate the clinical significance of bile liquid biopsy by assessing bile exosomal concentrations and components., Approach Results: Exosomes in bile and sera from CCA, pancreatic cancer, and common bile duct stone were identified and quantified by transmission electronmicroscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis, and nanoFCM. Exosomal components were assessed by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry and microRNA sequencing (miRNA-seq). Bile exosomal concentration in different diseases had no significant difference, but miR-182-5p and miR-183-5p were ectopically upregulated in CCA bile exosomes. High miR-182/183-5p in both CCA tissues and bile indicates a poor prognosis. Bile exosomal miR-182/183-5p is secreted by CCA cells and can be absorbed by biliary epithelium or CCA cells. With xenografts in humanized mice, we showed that bile exosomal miR-182/183-5p promotes CCA proliferation, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by targeting hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase in CCA cells and mast cells (MCs), and increasing prostaglandin E2 generation, which stimulates PTGER1 and increases CCA stemness. In single-cell mRNA-seq, hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase is predominantly expressed in MCs. miR-182/183-5p prompts MC to release VEGF-A release from MC by increasing VEGF-A expression, which facilitates angiogenesis., Conclusions: CCA cells secret exosomal miR-182/183-5p into bile, which targets hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase in CCA cells and MCs and increases prostaglandin E2 and VEGF-A release. Prostaglandin E2 promotes stemness by activating PTGER1. The clinical effect of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation remains unclear. Herein, we aim to investigate whether a COVID-19 history adversely affect female pregnancy outcomes after frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). This prospective cohort study enrolled 230 women who underwent FET cycles from December 2022 to April 2023 in an academic fertility center. Based on the history of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection before FET, women were divided into the infected group (n = 136) and the control group (n = 94). The primary outcome was the clinical pregnancy rate per cycle. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to adjust for potential confounders, while subgroup analysis and restricted cubic splines were used to depict the effect of postinfection time interval on FET. The results showed that the clinical pregnancy rate was 59.6% in the infected group and 63.9% in the control group (p = 0.513). Similarly, the two groups were comparable in the rates of biochemical pregnancy (69.1% vs. 76.6%; p = 0.214) and embryo implantation (51.7% vs. 54.5%; p = 0.628). After adjustment, the nonsignificant association remained between prior infection and clinical pregnancy (OR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.42-1.46). However, the odds for clinical pregnancy were significantly lower in the ≤30 days subgroup (OR = 0.15, 95% CI: 0.03-0.77), while no statistical significance was detected for 31-60 days and >60 days subgroups compared with the uninfected women. In conclusion, our findings suggested that SARS-CoV-2 infection in women had no significant effect on subsequent FET treatment overall, but pregnancy rates tended to be decreased if vitrified-thawed embryos were transferred within 30 days after infection. Background: The association between the vaginal microbiome and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is reported, but the longitudinal changes in the vaginal microbiome that accompany oral contraceptive therapy have not been described., Methods: This cohort study included 50 PCOS patients who wanted to make their menstrual periods more regular and accepted only oral contraceptive therapy and lifestyle coaching, then they were successfully followed up for 6 months. Venous blood was collected, and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), total testosterone (T), anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), and estradiol (E2) were assayed at baseline and at months 3 and 6. Vaginal swabs were collected at baseline and at months 3 and 6. 16S rRNA genes were sequenced to identify the microbiota structure. Latent class trajectory models were used to explore the trajectory of the changes in Lactobacillus abundance., Results: At 3 months, all patients reported regular periods, and the improvement lasted until 6 months. The body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio decreased with treatment (P < 0.01), and the AMH and T levels showed downward trends. We did not find a statistically significant relationship between hormone levels at the previous time point and the vaginal microbiota at subsequent time points (P > 0.05). The relative abundance of Lactobacillus increased with treatment, and trajectory analysis revealed five classes of Lactobacillus changes. Class 1, stable high level, accounted for 26%; class 2, decrease followed by increase, accounted for 18%; class 3, stable low level, accounted for 10%; class 4, increase, accounted for 20%; class 5, increase followed by decrease, accounted for 26%. Logistic models showed that compared to class 1, a higher baseline T level was associated with a reduced risk of class 2 change (odds ratio (OR) = 0.03, 95% confidence interval (CI):0.01-0.52) and class 4 change (OR = 0.10, 95% CI:0.01-0.93)., Conclusions: The abundance of Lactobacilli increased with PCOS treatment; however, the trajectory was inconsistent for each individual. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to observe cerebral microstructure and microcirculation features, as well as changes in white matter (WM) and gray matter (GM) among patients with non-neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (non-NPSLE)., Methods: We compared 36 female patients with non-NPSLE and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HCs) who underwent 3.0T MRI imaging with diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) and 3D pseudo-continuous Arterial Spin Labeling (pCASL). Mean kurtosis (MK), mean kurtosis tensor (MKT), and cerebral blood flow (CBF) values were obtained from 25 brain regions, including WM and GM. We analyzed the correlation between imaging indicators and clinical data., Results: When compared with HCs, patients with non-NPSLE had reduced MK and MKT values in regional WM, deep GM, and the left frontal lobe cortical GM, and increased CBF in the right parietal lobe WM and right semioval center (SOC). The MK and MKT values were weakly correlated with CBF in some regions, including WM and GM. Complement 3 (C3) and Complement 4 (C4) showed a weak positive correlation with MK and MKT in some regions, including WM and deep GM, while platelet (PLT) was positively correlated with MKT in the left frontal lobe WM; dsDNA antibody was correlated negatively with MK in the right occipital lobe WM; and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was correlated negatively with CBF in the left SOC., Conclusion: Our findings revealed the presence of brain microstructural and microvascular abnormalities in non-NPSLE patients, indicating microstructural damage in the cortical GM, which was less commonly reported. Objective: The solute carrier family 25 member 1 (SLC25A1) is currently the only known human transporter for citrate in the mitochondrial membrane. However, its role in cancer development remains to be elucidated. We aim to analyze the expression profile, prognostic value, potential immunological significance, and effect on tumor growth of SLC25A1 at a pan-cancer level., Methods: Herein, the role of SLC25A1 in tumorigenesis and progression was investigated based on the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), GeneMANIA, STRING and Cancer Dependency Map Project (DepMap) database via online websites or the R software. The protein expression levels were validated in tissue microarrays, and the effects on tumor cell lines were accessed through MTS and colony formation assays., Results: The expression of SLC25A1 increased in most cancers, and the upregulation of SLC25A1 in colon adenocarcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma was further confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Meanwhile, SLC25A1 was linked to clinical outcomes across multiple tumor types, particularly in lung adenocarcinoma, where its high expression predicted poor prognosis. Moreover, SLC25A1 was positively associated with MSI, TMB, and CD276 and tightly correlated with tumor-infiltrating immune cells. Furthermore, the knockout of SLC25A1 demonstrated inhibitory effects in most cancer cell lines in the DepMap project. Cellular experiments showed that SLC25A1 knockdown significantly reduced the proliferation of lung adenocarcinoma cells., Conclusions: Our findings suggest the potential of SLC25A1 as a prognostic biomarker for cancers and a therapeutic target for precise antitumor strategy and cancer immunotherapy., (© 2023. Aim: To investigate the effects of dyadic intervention on anxiety, depression, care burden and quality of life in informal caregivers of palliative patients with lung cancer., Background: Informal caregivers of palliative lung cancer patients bear a large number of negative emotions during the process of caring for the patients. Dyadic intervention has the potential for improving them but the overall effect is unclear., Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis., Data Sources: All randomized controlled trials were retrieved from the following databases until 4 May 2023: Web of Science, Embase Ovid, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Randomized Controlled Trials, Weipu, Wanfang and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases., Review Methods: This review was performed by Stata 12.0 and Review Manager 5.3., Results: Thirteen randomized controlled trials were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria (n = 1807). The results revealed that dyadic intervention significantly improved family caregivers' anxiety, depression and caregiver burden of palliative patients with lung cancer. The use of exogenous mitochondria to replenish damaged mitochondria has been proposed as a strategy for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. However, the success of this strategy is partially restricted by the difficulty of supplying sufficient mitochondria to diseased cells. Herein, we report the generation of high-powered mesenchymal stem cells with promoted mitochondrial biogenesis and facilitated mitochondrial transfer to injured lung cells by the sequential treatment of pioglitazone and iron oxide nanoparticles. This highly efficient mitochondrial transfer is shown to not only restore mitochondrial homeostasis but also reactivate inhibited mitophagy, consequently recovering impaired cellular functions. We perform studies in mouse to show that these high-powered mesenchymal stem cells successfully mitigate fibrotic progression in a progressive fibrosis model, which was further verified in a humanized multicellular lung spheroid model. Oxidative stress-based antitumor modalities derived from reactive oxygen species (ROS) storms have attracted increasing attention. Nevertheless, low delivery efficiency, poor selectivity, hypoxia and overexpressed glutathione (GSH) have severely restricted the sustainable generation of the ROS storm in tumor cells. Herein, we design a bioengineered nanogenerator by coordination-driven co-assembly of sonosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG), Fenton-like agent copper ion (Cu Ⅱ ) and mitochondrial respiratory inhibitor metformin (MET), which is then camouflaged by a cancer cytomembrane to induce a sustainable intracellular ROS storm for on-demand self-reinforcing sono-chemodynamic oncotherapy. Such a nanogenerator with a core-shell structure, suitable diameter and outstanding stability can efficiently accumulate in tumor regions and then internalize into tumor cells through the camouflaging and homologous targeting strategy of the cancer cytomembrane. The nanogenerator shows an exceptional instability under the triple stimulations of acidic lysosomes, overexpressed GSH and ultrasound (US) radiation, thereby resulting in the rapid disassembly and burst drug release. Interestingly, the released MET significantly enhances the sonodynamic therapy (SDT) efficacy of the released ICG by inhibiting mitochondrial respiration and meanwhile the released Cu Ⅱ obviously reduces ROS elimination by downregulating overexpressed GSH for self-amplifying and self-protecting the intracellular ROS storm. Moreover, such a nanogenerator almost completely achieves the tumor ablation in vivo in a single therapy cycle. Although the development of COVID-19 vaccines has been a remarkable success, the heterogeneous individual antibody generation and decline over time are unknown and still hard to predict. In this study, blood samples were collected from 163 participants who next received two doses of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine (CoronaVac®) at a 28-day interval. Using TMT-based proteomics, we identified 1,715 serum and 7,342 peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) proteins. We proposed two sets of potential biomarkers (seven from serum, five from PBMCs) at baseline using machine learning, and predicted the individual seropositivity 57 days after vaccination (AUC = 0.87). Based on the four PBMC's potential biomarkers, we predicted the antibody persistence until 180 days after vaccination (AUC = 0.79). Our data highlighted characteristic hematological host responses, including altered lymphocyte migration regulation, neutrophil degranulation, and humoral immune response. This study proposed potential blood-derived protein biomarkers before vaccination for predicting heterogeneous antibody generation and decline after COVID-19 vaccination, shedding light on immunization mechanisms and individual booster shot planning., (©The Author(s) 2023. Infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria still pose a clinical challenge. Although nanomaterials have been developed for antibacterial treatments, a systematic evaluation of the mechanisms and intervention models of antibacterial materials toward Gram-negative bacteria is still lacking. Herein, antibacterial quaternized carbon dots (QCDs) were synthesized via a one-step melting method using anhydrous citric acid and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDA). The QCDs exhibited effective broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and enhanced inhibitory ability towards Gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial mechanism of the QCDs with respect to Gram-negative bacteria was investigated through the characterization of bacterial morphology changes, the absorption modes of the QCDs on bacteria, and the potential generation of reactive oxygen species by the QCDs. The QCDs showed low toxicity in different cells, and did not cause hemolysis. The QCDs were administered via intraperitoneal injection to treat acute peritonitis in mice infected with E. coli . Routine blood examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and pathological analysis were undertaken and it was found that, similar to the positive control group treated with gentamicin sulfate, the QCDs exhibited a therapeutic effect that eliminated infection and inflammation. This study explores a controllable synthetic strategy for the synthesis of active carbon dots with antibacterial activity, a material that is a promising candidate for new treatments of Gram-negative bacterial infections.

Data-independent acquisition (DIA) mass spectrometry-based proteomics generates reproducible proteome data. The complex processing of the DIA data has led to the development of multiple data analysis tools. In this study, we assessed the performance of five tools (OpenSWATH, EncyclopeDIA, Skyline, DIA-NN, and Spectronaut) using six DIA datasets obtained from TripleTOF, Orbitrap, and TimsTOF Pro instruments. By comparing identification and quantification metrics and examining shared and unique cross-tool identifications, we evaluated both library-based and library-free approaches. Our findings indicate that library-free approaches outperformed library-based methods when the spectral library had limited comprehensiveness. However, our results also suggest that constructing a comprehensive library still offers benefits for most DIA analyses. Immunotherapy has fundamentally altered cancer treatment; however, its effectiveness is clinically hampered by insufficient intratumoral T lymphocyte infiltration and failed T lymphocyte priming. Additionally, inducing cancer-specific immune responses while sparing normal cells remains challenging. Herein, we developed a redox-activatable polymeric nanoswitch (c-N@IM/JQ) that remained 'off' status in circulation but rapidly switched 'on' after entering the tumor. Toll-like receptor (TLR) 7/8 agonist (imidazoquinoline, IMQ) and bromodomain and extraterminal inhibitor (JQ1) are locked in c-N@IM/JQ with a redox-cleavable linker (switch off). Upon systemic administration, c-N@IM/JQ with c-RGD peptide modification preferentially accumulated at tumor sites and responded to the high glutathione levels to release native IMQ for fully mobilizing T lymphocyte army, and JQ1 for removing the programmed death ligand (PD-L)-1 protection on tumor cells (switch on). Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most prevalent malignancy and the fifth cause of cancer-related deaths in men. A crucial challenge is identifying the population at risk of rapid progression from hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (HSPC) to lethal castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). We collected 78 HSPC biopsies and measured their proteomes using pressure cycling technology and a pulsed data-independent acquisition pipeline. We quantified 7355 proteins using these HSPC biopsies. A total of 251 proteins showed differential expression between patients with a long- or short-term progression to CRPC. Using a random forest model, we identified seven proteins that significantly discriminated long- from short-term progression patients, which were used to classify PCa patients with an area under the curve of 0.873. Next, one clinical feature (Gleason sum) and two proteins (BGN and MAPK11) were found to be significantly associated with rapid disease progression. A nomogram model using these three features was generated for stratifying patients into groups with significant progression differences (p-value = 1.3×10 -4 ). To conclude, we identified proteins associated with a fast progression to CRPC and an unfavorable prognosis. Based on these proteins, our machine learning and nomogram models stratified HSPC into high- and low-risk groups and predicted their prognoses. Introduction: Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium commonly identified in adults with underlying pulmonary diseases but is rarely observed in children. A better understanding of this pathogen in children is essential., Case Presentation: We report the case of a 49-month-old female child without previous underlying pulmonary diseases but with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The patient was complicated with pneumonia during chemotherapy, which was primarily characterized by spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema on chest computed tomography (CT). M. abscessus sequences were detected by metagenomic next-generation sequencing in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. With mechanical ventilation, closed thoracic drainage, and anti-infective therapy for 6 months, the patient's infection was controlled. The patient completed 2.5 years of treatment for ALL, and the drugs were discontinued. The patient currently remains in complete hematologic remission., Discussion: We reviewed the literature on 33 children with M. abscessus pulmonary disease. These children mostly had underlying immunodeficiency. Chest CT most often showed nodular shadows, consolidation, and bronchiectasis. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema were not reported as major manifestations., Conclusion: Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema were our patient's main characteristics on chest CT, and this study enriches the knowledge regarding possible imaging changes in M. abscessus pulmonary disease in children. Purpose: To explore the impact of inactivated COVID-19 vaccination on ovarian reserve as assessed by serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentration., Methods: A total of 3160 women were included in this single-center retrospective cohort study between June 2021 and October 2022. Vaccination information were collected from official immunization records available in personal mobile apps. Serum AMH was qualified by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay and compared with previous measurement data within three years. Women were categorized to the vaccinated group if they received two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines (Sinopharm or Sinovac) between AMH tests ( n = 488), and to the control group if not vaccinated ( n = 2672). Propensity score matching and multivariate linear regression were performed to control for potential confounders. The main outcome measures were the numeric AMH change and percentage AMH change between the two tests., Results: There were 474 women left in each group after matching all baseline characteristics. The mean interval from the first to second AMH measurement was 508.0 ± 250.2 and 507.5 ± 253.6 days for vaccinated and unvaccinated women, respectively ( P = 0.680). Both groups had a significant AMH decrease in the second test compared with the first test ( P = 0.001). However, the second AMH level remained comparable between groups (3.26 ± 2.80 vs. 3.24 ± 2.61 ng/mL, P = 0.757). Similarly, no significant differences were observed in numerical (-0.14 ± 1.32 vs. -0.20 ± 1.56 ng/mL, P = 0.945) and percentage (2.33 ± 58.65 vs. 0.35 ± 48.42%, P = 0.777) AMH changes. The results were consistent in sub-analyses for women aged <35 and ≥35 years. There were also no significant differences when vaccinated women were divided according to the time interval after vaccination: ≤30, 31-60, 61-90, and ≥91 days., Conclusion: Our study provides the first evidence that inactivated COVID-19 vaccination has no measurable detrimental effect on ovarian reserve, regardless of female age and vaccination interval. This reassuring finding adds to the safety evidence of COVID-19 vaccine in fertility, and should be useful to promote vaccine acceptance. Liver cancer is among the top leading causes of cancer mortality worldwide. Particularly, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) have been extensively investigated from the aspect of tumor biology. However, a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the molecular characteristics of HCC and CCA remains absent. Here, we characterized the proteome landscapes of HCC and CCA using the data-independent acquisition (DIA) mass spectrometry (MS) method. By comparing the quantitative proteomes of HCC and CCA, we found several differences between the two cancer types. In particular, we found an abnormal lipid metabolism in HCC and activated extracellular matrix-related pathways in CCA. We next developed a three-protein classifier to distinguish CCA from HCC, achieving an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.92, and an accuracy of 90% in an independent validation cohort of 51 patients. The distinct molecular characteristics of HCC and CCA presented in this study provide new insights into the tumor biology of these two major important primary liver cancers. Background: Although observational studies have demonstrated that blood lipids are associated with female infertility, the causality of this association remains unclear. We performed a univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the causal relationship between blood lipids and female infertility., Methods: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with lipid traits in univariate analysis were obtained from the Million Veteran Program (MVP) and Global Lipids Genetics Consortium (GLGC), involving up to 215,551 and 188,577 European individuals, respectively. Blood lipids in multivariate analysis were obtained from the latest genome-wide association study meta-analysis with lipid levels in 73 studies encompassing >300,000 participants. Data on female infertility were obtained from the FinnGen Consortium R6 release, which included 6481 samples and 75,450 controls. Subsequently, MR analysis was performed using inverse variance-weighted (IVW), weighted median, weighted-mode, simple-mode and MR-Egger regression to demonstrate the causal relationship between lipids and female infertility., Results: After controlling confounding factors including body mass index and age at menarche, two-sample MR demonstrated that genetically predicted LDL-C and TC were causally associated with the risk of female infertility (When the genetic instruments come from the MVP database, LDL-C and female infertility, IVW OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.001-1.269, p = 0.047; TC and female infertility, IVW OR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.018-1.317, p = 0.025, and when the genetic instruments came from the GLGC database, LDL-C and female infertility, IVW OR: 1.10, 95% CI: 1.008-1.210, p = 0.033; TC and female infertility, IVW OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.024-1.258, p = 0.015). However, the IVW estimate showed that HDL-C was not significantly associated with the risk of female infertility (when the genetic instruments came from the MVP database, IVW OR: 1.00, 95% CI: 0.887-1.128, p = 0.999; when the genetic instruments came from the GLGC database, IVW OR: 1.00, 95% CI: 0.896-1.111, p = 0.968). The multivariable MR analysis also provided evidence that LDL-C (OR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.006-1.243, p = 0.042) was significantly associated with the risk of female infertility after considering the correlation of all lipid-related traits., Conclusion: These findings support a causal relationship between increased LDL-cholesterol and increased female infertility risk. Furthermore, the association between lipid-related traits and female infertility risk merits more studies.

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) and hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) are significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). As an important marker for IR, Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) index maybe a significant predictor for HHcy progression, reflecting cardiovascular risk. However, the relationship between TyG index and HHcy has been unknown, especially for the high-risk occupation group of male bus drivers. This longitudinal study was initially conducted to explore the outcome of TyG index in predicting HHcy among male bus drivers., Methods: In total, 1018 Chinese male bus drivers with Hcy data and regular follow-up from 2017 to 2021 were screened, and 523 non-HHcy subjects at baseline were included in the longitudinal cohort. A restricted cubic spline (RCS) was performed to investigate the possible non-linear relationship between TyG index and the progression of HHcy. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to explore the association between TyG index and developing HHcy via assessing the value of odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI)., Results: After the median follow up time of 2.12 years, approximately 27.7% of male bus drivers (mean age: 48.1 years) was identified as new incidents HHcy. Multivariate logistic regression found that the higher level of TyG was associated with an increased risk of new onset HHcy (OR = 1.47; 95% CI: 1.11-1.94); and the association seemed to be strong among male bus drivers with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) ( P for interaction < 0.05)., Conclusion: As a higher risk occupation group for HHcy, male bus drivers should cause much more attentions from policy makers, employers, and health professionals in China. Identifying male bus drivers with HHcy is of significance at an earlier stage in the primary care setting. Background: Problem-solving ability has been identified as a core competence that nursing students should develop, and it plays a vital role in career development. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate factors related to problem-solving ability and the path relationships among those factors in the context of nursing students., Objective: This study aims to identify the factors that affect problem-solving ability, and to investigate path relationships of self-directed learning ability, critical thinking ability, learning engagement, and problem-solving ability among nursing students., Design: A cross-sectional study., Settings: The Department of Nursing at a university located in Shanghai, China., Sample: A total of 540 nursing students with a three-year education program were enrolled in the current study., Methods: Data were collected by using a structured questionnaire, including general information, learning engagement, self-directed learning ability, critical thinking ability, and problem-solving ability of nursing students. Pearson's correlations were used to explore the relationships between learning engagement, self-directed learning ability, critical thinking ability, and problem-solving ability. The path relationships were analyzed by constructing a structural equation model using AMOS software., Results: Our results showed that learning engagement, self-directed learning ability, and critical thinking ability were positively associated with problem-solving ability. Furthermore, learning engagement did not influence problem-solving ability directly, but it affected problem-solving ability indirectly via self-directed learning ability and critical thinking ability among nursing students. Additionally, the total effects of self-directed learning (0.442) and critical thinking ability (0.581) were more prominent than learning engagement (0.361) on problem-solving ability., Conclusions: To improve the problem-solving ability of nursing students, nursing educators should develop targeted strategies to enhance learning engagement, self-directed learning ability, and critical thinking ability., (© 2023. Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe a case of corneal involvement as an early manifestation of ocular disease in the 2022 human mpox (monkeypox) virus outbreak., Methods: This is a single case report with longitudinal care., Results: A 47-year-old immunocompetent man presented with viral conjunctivitis before development of skin lesions or systemic symptoms. Subsequently, he developed membranous keratoconjunctivitis and a corneal epithelial defect. Orthopoxvirus-positive polymerase chain reaction test from his ocular surface was positive. The epithelial defect did not heal with conservative treatment but was successfully treated with amniotic membrane transplantation over 8 days. Reduced corneal sensation was noted after epithelial healing, and polymerase chain reaction from the ocular surface remained positive at 17 days from symptom onset, with slowly recovering conjunctivitis at 21 days. Continued membrane formation required repeated removal but significantly improved with topical corticosteroid treatment after epithelial healing by 29 days of symptom onset. Corneal sensation normalized by 87 days from symptom onset at which time symblepharon were noted but PCR testing from the ocular surface was negative., Conclusions: Early corneal involvement of human monkeypox virus is possible. Transient corneal hypoesthesia may be due to acute inflammation. Chronic inflammatory changes can result in symblepharon. Purpose: Acinetobacter baumannii ( A. baumannii or AB) is one of the most opportunistic, nosocomial pathogens threatening public healthcare across countries. A. baumannii has become a primary growing concern due to its exceptional ability to acquire antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to multiple antimicrobial agents which is increasingly reported and more prevalent every year. Therefore, there is an urgent need to evaluate the AMR knowledge of A. baumannii for effective clinical treatment of nosocomial infections. This study aimed to investigate the clinical distribution AMR phenotypes and genotypes, and genomic characteristics of A. baumannii isolates recovered from hospitalized patients of different clinical departments of a sentinel hospital to improve clinical practices., Methods: A total of 123 clinical isolates were recovered from hospitalized patients of different clinical departments during 2019-2021 to analyze AMR patterns, and further subjected to whole-genome sequencing (WGS) investigations. Multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), as well as the presence of antimicrobial-resistant genes (ARGs), virulence factor genes (VFGs) and insertion sequences (ISs) were also investigated from WGS data., Results: The results highlighted that A. baumannii clinical isolates had shown a high AMR rate, particularly from the intensive care unit (ICU), towards routinely used antimicrobials, ie, β-lactams and fluoroquinolones. ST2 was the most prevalent ST in the clinical isolates, it was strongly associated to the resistance of cephalosporins and carbapenems, with bla OXA-23 and bla OXA-66 being the most frequent determinants; moreover, high carrier rate of VFGs was also observed such as all strains containing the ompA, adeF, pgaC, lpsB , and bfmR genes., Conclusion: Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates are mostly ST2 with high rates of drug resistance and carrier of virulence factors. Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin, which are easy to metastasize and relapse and are a great threat to human health. In our previous study, the abnormal expression of neurofibromin 1 (NF1) is observed in tumor tissue of STS, and the NF1 gene is regulated by miRNAs. The study aimed to assess the association between NF1-related miRNA gene polymorphisms and the risk of STS. In this case-control study, the information and peripheral blood were collected from 169 patients with STS and 170 healthy controls. Six single-nucleotide polymorphisms of the NF1-related miRNAs were investigated and genotyped using a Sequenom MassARRAY ® matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry platform. The association between the polymorphisms and the risk of STS was estimated using unconditional logistic regression analysis. There was a significant statistical difference on genotype distribution of miR-199a2 rs12139213 between the case group and the control group ( p  = 0.026). Comparing with individuals with wild-type AA, individuals with the AT/TT genotype had a 1.753-fold (odds ratio [OR] = 1.753, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.090-2.819, p  = 0.021) increased risk of STS and 1.907-fold (OR = 1.907, 95% CI = 1.173-3.102, p  = 0.009) increased risk of STS adjusted for age and smoking status. Individuals with the AG/GG genotype for miR24-3p rs4743988 displayed a significantly reduced risk of STS compared with individuals with homozygous mutations AA (OR = 0.605, 95% CI = 0.376-0.973, p  = 0.038). Individuals carrying the AT/TT genotype for miR-199a2 rs12139213 or the AA genotype for miR24-3p rs4743988 may be susceptible to STS, which could be potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of STS.

Importance: The effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination on fertility warrants clarification in women undergoing assisted reproductive treatment., Objective: To study the association between female COVID-19 vaccination and outcomes of assisted reproductive treatment., Data Sources: PubMed, Embase, the Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and medRxiv and bioRxiv were searched for eligible studies from December 1, 2019, to November 30, 2022, with no language restrictions., Study Selection and Synthesis: Observational studies comparing assisted reproductive outcomes between women with and without COVID-19 vaccination were included. The pooled estimates were calculated using the random-effects models as mean differences (MDs), standardized MDs, or odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity was evaluated using the I 2 statistic., Main Outcomes: The number of oocytes retrieved and clinical pregnancy rate., Results: Twenty-one cohort studies involving a total of 19,687 treatment cycles were included. In a comparison of the vaccinated vs. unvaccinated groups, the pooled MD for oocyte number was -0.06 (95% CI, -0.51 to 0.39; I 2 = 0), and the pooled odds ratio for clinical pregnancy was 0.95 (95% CI, 0.85-1.05; I 2 = 0). Similarly, there were no statistically significant adverse effects identified in other outcomes determined a priori, including 4 cycle characteristics, 6 laboratory parameters, and 3 pregnancy indicators. Most results were consistently unchanged in subgroup and sensitivity analyses, with no evidence of publication bias according to Egger's test., Conclusion and Relevance: Our work did not find significant differences in assisted reproductive outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated women. Although oxidative stress-based antitumor modality derived from reactive oxygen species (ROS) storm has attracted considerable attention in copper-based nanomaterials, its efficiency is still weakened by the insufficient hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and overexpressed glutathione (GSH) in a tumor microenvironment (TME). In view of this, we designed an engineered programmable spike-like nanogenerator via the coordination-driven co-assembly of Evans Blue (EB), copper ions (Cu II ), and 5-hydroxy- p -naphthoquinone (HND). For programmable nanogenerators, the introduction of EB as a stabilizer-like component can not only adjust its morphology but also achieve its visual tracking. Interestingly, such programmable nanogenerators can be efficiently enriched in tumor regions and then internalized into tumor cells due to ECH with spike-like morphology. Notably, once the nanogenerator is disintegrated and burst to release the drug upon acidic lysosome and endogenous GSH triggering, the released HND can not only efficiently amplify endogenous H 2 O 2 by intracellular oxidoreductases but also down-regulate the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase NIMA-interacting 1 (Pin 1) activity. In addition, the released Cu II ions can efficiently catalyze the degradation of the endogenous H 2 O 2 to amplify hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) and down-regulate the overexpressed GSH to reduce ˙OH elimination for on-demand cascade-amplifying oxidative stress. Importantly, such programmable nanogenerators show an excellent antitumor effect via down-regulating the Pin 1 activity and cascade-amplifying oxidative stress. In this study, we propose a spatiotemporally programmable cascade nanogenerator for oxidative stress-based antitumor therapy.
