In the realm of nanoscale materials design, achieving precise control over the dimensions of nanotubular architectures poses a substantial challenge. In our ongoing pursuit, we have successfully engineered a novel class of single-molecule nanotubes─isoreticular covalent organic pillars (iCOPs)─by stacking formylated macrocycles through multiple dynamic covalent imine bonds, guided by principles of reticular chemistry. Our strategic selection of rigid diamine linkers has facilitated the synthesis of a diverse array of iCOPs, each retaining a homologous structure yet offering distinct cavity shapes influenced by the linker choice. Notably, three of these iCOP variants feature continuous one-dimensional channels, exhibiting length-dependent host-guest interactions with α,ω-dibromoalkanes, and each presenting a distinct critical guest alkyl chain length threshold for efficient guest encapsulation. This newfound capability not only provides a platform for tailoring nanotubular structures with precision, but also opens new avenues for innovative applications in molecular recognition and the purification of complex mixtures.

The combination of all-inorganic perovskites (PVSKs) and polymers allows for free-standing flexible optoelectronic devices. However, solubility difference of the PVSK precursors and concerns over the compatibility between polymer carriers and PVSKs imply a great challenge to incorporate different kinds of PVSKs into polymer matrices by the same manufacturing process. In this work, PVSK precursors are introduced into poly(2-hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PHEA) hydrogels in sequence, in which the PVSK-gel composites are achieved with full-color emissions by simply varying the precursor species. Moreover, it is found that CsBr has a higher interaction energy with the (111) plane of CsPbBr 3 than the (110) plane; thus, the CsPbBr 3 crystals with a shape of truncated cube and tetragon are observed during the CsPbBr 3 -Cs 4 PbBr 6 phase transition over time. Bioaerosols are widely distributed in urban air and can be transmitted across the atmosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere, resulting in infectious diseases. Automobile air conditioning (AAC) filters can trap airborne microbes. In this study, AAC filters were used to investigate the abundance and pathogenicity of airborne microorganisms in typical Chinese and European cities. Culturable bacteria and fungi concentrations were determined using microbial culturing. High-throughput sequencing was employed to analyze microbial community structures. The levels of culturable bioaerosols in Chinese and European cities exhibited disparities (Analysis of Variance, P < 0.01). The most dominant pathogenic bacteria and fungi were similar in Chinese (Mycobacterium: 18.2-18.9 %; Cladosporium: 23.0-30.2 %) and European cities (Mycobacterium: 15.4-37.7 %; Cladosporium: 18.1-29.3 %). Bartonella, Bordetella, Alternaria, and Aspergillus were also widely identified. BugBase analysis showed that microbiomes in China exhibited higher abundances of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and biofilm formation capacity than those in Europe, indicating higher health risks. Through co-occurrence network analysis, heavy metals such as zinc were found to correlate with microorganism abundance; most bacteria were inversely associated, while fungi exhibited greater tolerance, indicating that heavy metals affect the growth and reproduction of bioaerosol microorganisms. Organic long-persistent luminescence (OLPL), which relies on energy storage for delayed light emission by the charge separation state, has attracted intense attention in various optical applications. However, charge separation (CS) is efficient only under ultraviolet excitation in most OLPL systems because it requires a driving force from the large energy difference between the local excited (LE) and charge transfer (CT) states. In this study, a multiresonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) molecule is incorporated into an exciplex system to achieve efficient OLPL in a composite material activated by visible light via a stepwise charge/energy transfer process. The enhanced absorption of the composite material facilitated a tenfold increase in the duration of the OLPL, which can last for several hours under visible light excitation. The excited state of the MR-TADF molecule tends to charge transfer to the acceptor, followed by energy transfer to the exciplex, which benefits from the small difference between the LE and CT states owing to the inherent CS characteristics of the opposing resonance effect. Afterglow displays of these composite materials are fabricated to demonstrate their considerable potential in encryption patterns and emergency lights, which take advantage of their excellent processability, visible light activation, and tunable luminescence properties., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

It is highly demanded to understand the confinement effect on nanoconfined polymers. Recent studies reported a strong perturbation of local dynamics and substantial alteration of glass transition temperature Tg at nanoscale. However, how confinement affects the mechanical properties of polymers is not fully understood. Here, we show that the modulus of thin polymer films could be remarkedly altered through a polymer-polymer interface. The modulus of a thin polystyrene (PS) film next to a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was determined from the PS-PDMS bilayer bulging test. A series of experiments show that the modulus of PS can be increased up to 37%, when the modulus of the neighboring PDMS varies from 1.04 to 4.88 MPa. The results demonstrate a strong sensitivity of mechanical properties of thin polymers to the hard/soft environment, which we attribute to the change of high-mobility layer by the polymer-polymer interface., (© 2024 Author(s). Developing highly active materials that efficiently utilize solar spectra is crucial for photocatalysis, but still remains a challenge. Here, we report a new donor-acceptor (D-A) covalent organic framework (COF) with a wide absorption range from 200 nm to 900 nm (ultraviolet-visible-near infrared light). We find that the thiophene functional group is accurately introduced into the electron acceptor units of TpDPP-Py (TpDPP: 5,5'-(2,5-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-3,6-dioxo-2,3,5,6-tetrahydropyrrolo [3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-diyl)bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde), Py: 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)pyrene) COFs not only significantly extends its spectral absorption capacity but also endows them with two-photon and three-photon absorption effects, greatly enhancing the utilization rate of sunlight. The selective coupling of benzylamine as the target reactant is used to assess the photocatalytic activity of TpDPP-Py COFs, showing high photocatalytic conversion of 99% and selectivity of 98% in 20 min. Additionally, the TpDPP-Py COFs also exhibit the universality of photocatalytic selective coupling of other imine derivatives with ~100% conversion efficiency. Hydrogel-based electronics have inherent similarities to biological tissues and hold potential for wearable applications. However, low conductivity, poor stretchability, nonpersonalizability, and uncontrollable dehydration during use limit their further development. In this study, projection stereolithography 3D printing high-conductive hydrogel for flexible passive wireless sensing is reported. The prepared photocurable silver-based hydrogel is rapidly planarized into antenna shapes on substrates using surface projection stereolithography. After partial dehydration, silver flakes within the circuits form sufficient conductive pathways to achieve high conductivity (387 S cm -1 ). By sealing the circuits to prevent further dehydration, the resistance remains stable when tensile strain is less than 100% for at least 30 days. Besides, the sealing materials provide versatile functionalities, such as stretchability and shape memory property. Compact, magnetic field, B sensing is proposed and demonstrated by combining the two Faraday rotation elements and beam displacement crystals within a micro-optical fiber circulator with a fiber reflector and ferromagnets to allow high contrast attenuation in an optical fiber arm. Low optical noise sensing is measured at λ =1550 n m as a change in attenuation, α , of optical light propagating through the rotators and back. The circulator's double-pass configuration, using a gold mirror as a reflector, achieves a magnetic field sensitivity s = Δ α / Δ B =(0.26±0.02) d B / m T with a resolution of Δ B =0.01 m T , over a detection range B =0-89 m T . The circulator as a platform provides direct connectivity to the Internet, allowing remote sensing to occur. The method described here is amenable to multisensor combinations, including with other sensor technologies, particularly in future integrated waveguide Faraday optical circuits and devices, extending its utility beyond point magnetic field sensing applications.

Heterocycle-linked phthalocyanine-based COFs with close-packed π-π conjugated structures are a kind of material with intrinsic electrical conductivity, and they are considered to be candidates for photoelectrical devices. Previous studies have revealed their applications for energy storage, gas sensors, and field-effect transistors. However, their potential application in photodetector is still not fully studied. The main difficulty is preparing high-quality films. In our study, we found that our newly designed benzimidazole-linked Cu (II)-phthalocyanine-based COFs (BICuPc-COFs) film can hardly formed with a regular aerobic oxidation method. Therefore, we developed a transfer dehydrogenation method with N-benzylideneaniline (BA) as a mild reagent. With this in hand, we successfully prepared a family of high crystalline BICuPc-COFs powders and films. Furthermore, both of these new BICuPc-COFs films showed high electrical conductivity (0.022-0.218 S/m), higher than most of the reported COFs materials. Due to the broad absorption and high conductivity of BICuPc-COFs, synaptic devices with small source-drain voltage (V DS =1 V) were fabricated with response light from visible to near-infrared. Stretchable neuromorphic optoelectronics present tantalizing opportunities for intelligent vision applications that necessitate high spatial resolution and multimodal interaction. Existing neuromorphic devices are either stretchable but not reconcilable with multifunctionality, or discrete but with low-end neurological function and limited flexibility. Herein, we propose a defect-tunable viscoelastic perovskite film that is assembled into strain-insensitive quasi-continuous microsphere morphologies for intrinsically stretchable neuromorphic vision-adaptive transistors. The resulting device achieves trichromatic photoadaptation and a rapid adaptive speed (<150 s) beyond human eyes (3 ~ 30 min) even under 100% mechanical strain. When acted as an artificial synapse, the device can operate at an ultra-low energy consumption (15 aJ) (far below the human brain of 1 ~ 10 fJ) with a high paired-pulse facilitation index of 270% (one of the best figures of merit in stretchable synaptic phototransistors). Chronic wound healing remains a substantial clinical challenge. Current treatments are often either prohibitively expensive or insufficient in meeting the various requirements needed for effective diabetic wound healing. A 4D printing multifunctional hydrogel dressing is reported here, which aligns perfectly with wounds owning various complex shapes and depths, promoting both wound closure and tissue regeneration. The hydrogel is prepared via digital light process (DLP) 3D printing of the mixture containing N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm), curcumin-loaded Pluronic F127 micelles (Cur-PF127), and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate-dopamine (PEGDA575-Do), a degradable crosslinker. The use of PEGDA575-Do ensures tissue adhesion and degradability, and cur-PF127 serves as an antibacterial agent. Moreover, the thermo-responsive mainchains (i.e., polymerized NIPAm) enables the activation of wound contraction by body temperature. The features of the prepared hydrogel, including robust tissue adhesion, temperature-responsive contraction, effective hemostasis, spectral antibacterial, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and inflammation regulation, contribute to accelerating diabetic wound healing in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected full-thickness skin defect diabetic rat models and liver injury mouse models, highlighting the potential of this customizable, mechanobiological, and inflammation-regulatory dressing to expedite wound healing in various clinical settings., (© 2023 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Challenges associated with stretchable optoelectronic devices, such as pixel size, power consumption and stability, severely brock their realization in high-resolution digital imaging. Herein, we develop a universal detachable interface technique that allows uniform, damage-free and reproducible integration of micropatterned stretchable electrodes for pixel-dense intrinsically stretchable organic transistor arrays. Benefiting from the ideal heterocontact and short channel length (2 μm) in our transistors, switching current ratio exceeding 10 6 , device density of 41,000 transistors/cm 2 , operational voltage down to 5 V and excellent stability are simultaneously achieved. The resultant stretchable transistor-based image sensors exhibit ultrasensitive X-ray detection and high-resolution imaging capability. A megapixel image is demonstrated, which is unprecedented for stretchable direct-conversion X-ray detectors. Nanoclusters with atomically precise structures and discrete energy levels are considered as nanoscale semiconductors for artificial intelligence. However, nanocluster electronic engineering and optoelectronic behavior have remained obscure and unexplored. Hence, we create nanocluster photoreceptors inspired by mantis shrimp visual systems to satisfy the needs of compact but multi-task vision hardware and explore the photo-induced electronic transport. Wafer-scale arrayed photoreceptors are constructed by a nanocluster-conjugated molecule heterostructure. Nanoclusters perform as an in-sensor charge reservoir to tune the conductance levels of artificial photoreceptors by a light valve mechanism. A ligand-assisted charge transfer process takes place at nanocluster interface and it features an integration of spectral-dependent visual adaptation and circular polarization recognition. This approach is further employed for developing concisely structured, multi-task, and compact artificial visual systems and provides valuable guidelines for nanocluster neuromorphic devices., (© 2024. Optimizing mechanical performance is crucial for the practical utilization of stimuli-responsive polymers, while complex viscous and elastic behavior hinders a deep understanding of functional polymers under external field excitation. Here, we demonstrate the in situ dynamic and static mechanical responses under electric stimuli of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) above glass transition temperature (Tg) by applying a direct current electric field vertically to the mechanical loading. The results show that the electro-mechanical response of PMMA is directly correlated to chain relaxation modes with different length scales: for local segments, polarization provides resistance for molecular motion, manifested by enhanced moduli, increased transient viscosity, and a wider linear viscoelastic range, whereas in a larger spatial range, polarization-induced conformation change causes faster relaxation, reduced elastic modulus, and a lowered modulus plateau. Moreover, flow viscosity is reduced because of weaker friction between chain segments under polarization. Multifunctional semiconductors integrating unique optical, electrical, mechanical, and chemical characteristics are critical to advanced and emerging manufacturing technologies. However, due to the trade-off challenges in design principles, fabrication difficulty, defects in existing materials, etc., realizing multiple functions through multistage manufacturing is quite taxing. Here, an effective molecular design strategy is established to prepare a class of multifunctional integrated polymer semiconductors. The pyridal[1,2,3]triazole-thiophene co-structured tetrapolymers with full-backbone coplanarity and considerable inter/intramolecular noncovalent interactions facilitate short-range order and excellent (re)organization capability of polymer chains, providing stress-dissipation sites in the film state. The regioregular multicomponent conjugated backbones contribute to dense packing, excellent crystallinity, high crack onset strain over 100%, efficient carrier transport with mobilities exceeding 1 cm 2  V -1  s -1 , and controllable near-infrared luminescence. Furthermore, a homologous blending strategy is proposed to further enhance the color-tunable luminescent properties of polymers while effectively retaining mechanical and electrical properties. The blended system exhibits excellent field-effect mobility (µ) and quantum yield (Φ), reaching a record Φ · µ of 0.43 cm 2  V -1  s -1 . Perovskites field-effect transistors (PeFETs) have been intensively investigated for their application in detector and synapse. However, synapse based on PeFETs is still very difficult to integrate excellent charge carrier transporting ability, photosensitivity, and nonvolatile memory effects into one device, which is very important for developing bionic electronic devices and edge computing. Here, two-dimensional (2D) perovskites are synthesized by incorporating fused π-conjugated pyrene-O-ethyl-ammonium (POE) ligands and a systematic study is conducted to obtain enhanced performance and reliable PeFETs. The optimized (POE) 2 SnI 4 transistors display the hole mobility over 0.3 cm 2  V -1  s -1 , high repeatability, and operational stability. Meanwhile, the derived photo memory devices show remarkable photoresponse, with a switching ratio higher than 10 5 , high visible light responsivity (>4 × 10 4  A W -1 ), and stable storage-erase cycles, as well as competitive retention performance (10 4  s). The photoinduced memory behavior can be benefiting from the insulating nature of quantum-well in 2D perovskite under dark and its excellent light sensitivity. The excellent photo memory behaviors have been maintained after 40 days in a N 2 atmosphere. Finally, a 2D perovskite-only transistors with a multi-level memory behavior (16 distinct states) is described by controlling incident light pulse. The demand for applications, such as coatings, separation filters, and electronic packaging, has greatly driven the research of polymer films. At nanometer scale, mechanical properties of thin polymer films can significantly deviate from bulk. Despite outstanding progresses, there still lack deep discussions on nonlinear viscoelastic-viscoplastic response and their interactions under nanoconfinement. In this work, by conducting measurements via the bubble inflation method and modelling using Schapery and Perzyna equations, we demonstrate nonlinear viscoelastic-viscoplastic properties of freely standing thin polystyrene (PS) films. The results show the unchanged glassy compliance and the rubbery stiffening phenomenon for thin PS films, where the lower rubbery plateau in rubbery stiffening may originate from the induced molecular orientation by plastic deformation. With decreasing film thickness, viscosity and yield stress in viscoplasticity increase in an exponential and a linear trend, respectively, indicating the significant role of nanoconfinement effect on viscoplastic properties. These findings may reveal that there are many properties from linear viscoelasticity to nonlinear viscoelasticity-viscoplasticity that need to be explored and unveiled for sufficient understanding of the nanoconfinement effect on altering mechanical behavior of polymers., (© 2023 Author(s). Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels. has been used for women to enrich the blood, prevent and treat blood deficiency syndrome in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Wine-processed Angelica sinensis, soil-processed Angelica sinensis, oil-processed Angelica sinensis, and charred-processed Angelica sinensis are the most significant four processed products used in Chinese clinic. However, there have been few studies aimed at comparing their chemical differences. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-orbitrap mass spectrometry combining with nontargeted metabolomics was applied to investigate the diversity of processed products of Angelica sinensis. A total of 74 compounds with the variable importance in the projection value more than 1.5 and P less than 0.05 in ANOVA were highlighted as the compounds that contribute most to the discrimination of Angelica sinensis and four processed products. The results showed the metabolic changes between Angelica sinensis and its four processed products, there were 19 metabolites, 3 metabolites, 6 metabolites, and 45 metabolites were tentatively assigned in soil-processed Angelica sinensis, wine-processed Angelica sinensis, oil-processed Angelica sinensis, and charred-processed Angelica sinensis, respectively. American ginseng ( Panax quinquefolium L.) is used as tonic plant and high-grade nourishment. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) method was established for identifying the chemical constituent in three morphological regions of American ginseng, including main root (MR), rhizome (RH) and lateral root (LR). The 63 saponins was identified in different morphological regions of 10 American ginseng samples. The chemical maker compounds in corresponding morphological region, while the major compounds of MR (malonyl-ginsenoside Rb 1 , ginsenoside Rd, Rs 2 and pseudo-RC 1 ), LR (stipuleanoside R 2 , ginsenoside Re and malonyl-ginsenoside Rc), and RH (malonyl-ginsenoside Rd, Rb 3 , and chikusetsu saponin II) were discovered. We present experimental evidence that atomic and molecular iodine, I and I 2 , are produced spontaneously in the dark at the air-water interface of iodide-containing droplets without any added catalysts, oxidants, or irradiation. Specifically, we observe I 3 - formation within droplets, and I 2 emission into the gas phase from NaI-containing droplets over a range of droplet sizes. The formation of both products is enhanced in the presence of electron scavengers, either in the gas phase or in solution, and it clearly follows a Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism, suggesting an interfacial process. These observations are consistent with iodide oxidation at the interface, possibly initiated by the strong intrinsic electric field present there, followed by well-known solution-phase reactions of the iodine atom. This interfacial chemistry could be important in many contexts, including atmospheric aerosols.

Polymer nanowire (NW) organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) integrated on highly aligned large-area flexible substrates are candidate structures for the development of high-performance flexible electronics. This work presents a universal technique, coaxial focused electrohydrodynamic jet (CFEJ) printing technology, to fabricate highly aligned 90-nm-diameter polymer arrays. This method allows for the preparation of uniformly shaped and precisely positioned nanowires directly on flexible substrates without transfer, thus ensuring their electrical properties. Using indacenodithiophene-co-benzothiadiazole (IDT-BT) and poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-co-benzothiadiazole) (F8-BT) as example materials, 5 cm 2 arrays were prepared with only minute size variations, which is extremely difficult to do using previously reported methods. According to 2D-GIXRD analysis, the molecules inside the nanowires mainly adopted face-on π-stacking crystallite arrangements. This is quite different from the mixed arrangement of thin films. Nanowire-based OFETs exhibited a high average hole mobility of 1.1 cm 2 V -1 s -1 and good device uniformity, indicating the applicability of CFEJ printing as a potential batch manufacturing and integration process for high-performance, scalable polymer nanowire-based OFET circuits. Vehicle-mounted ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has been used to non-destructively inspect and evaluate railway subgrade conditions. However, existing GPR data processing and interpretation methods mostly rely on time-consuming manual interpretation, and limited studies have applied machine learning methods. GPR data are complex, high-dimensional, and redundant, in particular with non-negligible noises, for which traditional machine learning methods are not effective when applied to GPR data processing and interpretation. To solve this problem, deep learning is more suitable to process large amounts of training data, as well as to perform better data interpretation. In this study, we proposed a novel deep learning method to process GPR data, the CRNN network, which combines convolutional neural networks (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN). The CNN processes raw GPR waveform data from signal channels, and the RNN processes features from multiple channels. The results show that the CRNN network achieves a higher precision at 83.4%, with a recall of 77.3%. Compared to the traditional machine learning method, the CRNN is 5.2 times faster and has a smaller size of 2.6 MB (traditional machine learning method: 104.0 MB). Our research output has demonstrated that the developed deep learning method improves the efficiency and accuracy of railway subgrade condition evaluation.

Human sensory receptors enable the real world to be perceived effortlessly. Hence, massive efforts have been devoted to the development of bionic receptors capable of identifying objects. Unfortunately, most of the existing devices are limited to single sensory emulation and are established on solid-state electronic technologies, which are incompatible with the biological reactions occurring in electrolyte media. Here, an iontronic tactile-gustatory receptor using an all-polymer electrochemical transistor (AECT) is presented. The sensor is biocompatible with the operation voltage of 0.1 V, which is 1 to 2 orders lower than those of reported values. By this study, one receptor is able to accurately recognize various objects perceived by the human tactile and gustatory system without complex circuitry. Additionally, to promote its further application, flexible AECT arrays with channel length of 2 µm and density of 104 167 transistors cm -2 (yield of 97%) are fabricated, 1 to 5 orders higher than those of related works. Hydroxyl radical (OH) is a key oxidant that triggers atmospheric oxidation chemistry in both gas and aqueous phases. The current understanding of its aqueous sources is mainly based on known bulk (photo)chemical processes, uptake from gaseous OH, or related to interfacial O 3 and NO 3 radical-driven chemistry. Here, we present experimental evidence that OH radicals are spontaneously produced at the air-water interface of aqueous droplets in the dark and the absence of known precursors, possibly due to the strong electric field that forms at such interfaces. The measured OH production rates in atmospherically relevant droplets are comparable to or significantly higher than those from known aqueous bulk sources, especially in the dark. As aqueous droplets are ubiquitous in the troposphere, this interfacial source of OH radicals should significantly impact atmospheric multiphase oxidation chemistry, with substantial implications on air quality, climate, and health.

Gut microbiota plays an important role in the pathophysiology of obesity. Fungal polysaccharide can improve obesity, but the potential mechanism needs further study. This experiment studied the potential mechanism of polysaccharides from Sporisorium reilianum (SRP) to improve obesity in male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) using metagenomics and untargeted metabolomics. After 8 weeks of SRP (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg/day) intervention, we analyzed the related index of obesity, gut microbiota, and untargeted metabolomics of rats. The obesity and serum lipid levels of rats treated with SRP were reduced, and lipid accumulation in the liver and adipocyte hypertrophy was improved, especially in rats treated with a high dose of SRP. SRP improved the composition and function of gut microbiota in rats fed with a high-fat diet, and decreased the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroides at the phylum level. At the genus level, the abundance of Lactobacillus increased and that of Bacteroides decreased. At the species level, the abundance of Lactobacillus crispatus , Lactobacillus helveticus , and Lactobacillus acidophilus increased, while the abundance of Lactobacillus reuteri and Staphylococcus xylosus decreased. The function of gut microbiota mainly regulated lipid metabolism and amino acid metabolism. The untargeted metabolomics indicated that 36 metabolites were related to the anti-obesity effect of SRP. Furthermore, linoleic acid metabolism, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis, and the phenylalanine metabolism pathway played a role in improving obesity in those treated with SRP. The study results suggest that SRP significantly alleviated obesity via gut-microbiota-related metabolic pathways, and SRP could be used for the prevention and treatment of obesity.

The utilisation of plants directly as quantifiable natural sensors is proposed. A case study measuring surface wettability of Aucuba japonica, or Japanese Laurel, plants using a novel smartphone field interrogator is demonstrated. This plant has been naturalised globally from Asia. Top-down contact angle measurements map wettability on-site and characterise a range of properties impacting plant health, such as aging, solar and UV exposure, and pollution. Leaves at an early age or in the shadow of trees are found to be hydrophobic with contact angle θ ~ 99°, while more mature leaves under sunlight are hydrophilic with θ ~ 79°. Direct UVA irradiation at λ = 365 nm is shown to accelerate aging, changing contact angle of one leaf from slightly hydrophobic at θ ~ 91° to be hydrophilic with θ ~ 87° after 30 min. Leaves growing beside a road with heavy traffic are observed to be substantially hydrophilic, as low as θ ~ 47°, arising from increased wettability with particulate accumulation on the leaf surface. Away from the road, the contact angle increases as high as θ ~ 96°. The results demonstrate that contact angle measurements using a portable diagnostic IoT edge device can be taken into the field for environmental detection, pollution assessment and more. Using an Internet connected smartphone combined with a plant sensor allows multiple measurements at multiple locations together in real-time, potentially enabling tracking of parameter change anywhere where plants are present or introduced. Organic light-emitting transistors (OLETs) have garnered considerable attention from academy and industry due to their potential applications in next-generation display technologies, multifunctional devices, and organic electrically pumped lasers. However, overcoming the trade-offs among power consumption, external quantum efficiency (EQE), and uniform area emission remains a long-standing issue for OLETs. Herein, a van der Waals multilayer heterojunction methodology is proposed to enhance the layer-to-layer interfacial interaction and contact, resulting in better dipole shielding, carrier transport, exciton recombination, and current density distribution. The prepared multilayer heterojunction OLET (MLH-OLET) array shows uniform and bright RGB area emission and low operating voltage (<30 V among the lowest applied voltage of reported lateral LETs). Additionally, a high brightness under area emission of 1060 cd m -2 , a high EQE value of 0.85%, and a high loop stability (over 380 cycles, outperforming state-of-the-art OLETs) indicate that the proposed multilayer heterojunction is obviously superior to the reported lateral device configuration. Stretchability is a prerequisite for electronic skin devices. However, state-of-the-art stretchable thin-film transistors do not possess sufficiently low operating voltages and good stability, significantly limiting their use in real-world biomedical applications. Herein, a van der Waals-controlling elastomer/carbon quantum dot interfacial polarization methodology is proposed to form a hybrid polymer dielectric with 620% tensile strain and large-area film uniformity (>A4 paper size). Using the hybrid polymer dielectrics, the prepared intrinsically stretchable organic thin-film transistors demonstrate a low operating voltage below 5 V, 100% strain tolerance, and excellent operational stability, as well as a high on-current/off-current ratio of 10 5 and a steep subthreshold slope of 500 mV dec -1 . Based on this device technology, an amplifier with a high gain of 90 V V -1 among the highest values of reported stretchable transistors is realized. This amplifier is at the first time applied to detect human electrophysical signals with an output signal amplitude of over 0.2 V, which even outperforms other types of the state-of-the-art organic amplifiers for human electrophysiology monitoring. Patterning of semiconductor polymers is pertinent to preparing and applying organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). In this study, coaxial focused electrohydrodynamic jet printing (high resolution, high speed, and convenient) was used to pattern polymer semiconductors. The influence of the key printing parameters on the width of polymer sub-microwires was evaluated. The width decreased with increasing applied voltage, printing speed, and concentration of the polymer ink. However, the width increased gradually with increasing polymer ink flow rate. A regression analysis model of the relationship between the printing parameters and width was established. Based on a regression analysis/genetic algorithm, the optimal printing parameters were obtained and the correctness of the printing parameters was verified. The optimized printing parameters stabilized the width of the arrays to ca. 110 nm and imparted a smooth morphology. Additionally, the corresponding OFETs exhibited a high mobility of 2 cm 2 V -1 s -1 , which is 5× higher than that of thin-film-based OFETs. One can conveniently obtain high-performance OFETs from ordered sub-microwire arrays fabricated by CFEJ printing.

Aerosol particles, such as the widespread COVID-19 recently, have posed a great threat to humans. Combat experience has proven that masks can protect against viruses; however, the epidemic in recent years has caused serious environmental pollution from plastic medical supplies, especially masks. Degradable filters are promising candidates to alleviate this problem. Degradable nanofiber filters, which are developed by the electrospinning technique, can achieve superior filtration performance. This review focuses on the basic introduction to air filtration, the general aspects of face masks, and nanofibers. Furthermore, the progress of the state of art degradable electrospun nanofiber filters have been summarized, such as silk fibroin (SF), polylactic acid (PLA), chitosan, cellulose, and zein. Finally, the challenges and future development are highlighted.

This study presents the analogical assessment of the train-induced vibration and radiated noise in a proposed theater. The theater is to be constructed in a region with crowded metro lines, and the assessment is implemented in an analogical building with comparable structural type and metro condition. Prior to the assessment, the comparability of the analogical building with the theater is validated using the train-induced ground vibration. With the same horizontal distance from the metro line, the train-induced vibration level in the analogical building is 9 dB higher than that in the construction site of the theater. Such results indicate that the lack of soil layers may lead to a dramatic increase in train-induced vibration in the building. In the staircase of the analogical building, the train-induced radiated noise reached 55 dB (A), which is 10 dB (A) higher than the daytime allowable level. As the most important indicator, the noise rating number in the cinema of the analogical building is NR -43, which put forward an enormous challenge on the construction of the theater with a denoise demand of 23 dB. The analogical method applied in this study provides an effective and practical way for the assessment of train-induced vibration and radiated noise in proposed vibration-sensitive buildings. The assessment results that provide necessary reference and support for the anti-vibration design will help guarantee the stage effect of the theater.

Cyclohexane, a typical volatile organic compound (VOC), poses high risks to the environment and humans. Herein, synthesized PdAg/Fe 2 O 3 catalysts exhibited exceptional catalytic performance for cyclohexane combustion at lower temperatures (50% mineralization temperature ( T 50 ) of 199 °C, 90% mineralization temperature ( T 90 ) of 315 °C) than Pd/Fe 2 O 3 ( T 50 of 262 °C, T 90 of 335 °C) and Fe 2 O 3 ( T 50 of 305 °C, T 90 of 360 °C). In addition, PdAg/Fe 2 O 3 displayed enhanced stability by alloying Ag with Pd. The redox and acidity of the PdAg/Fe 2 O 3 were studied by XPS, H 2 -TPR, and NH 3 -TPD. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy and proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry were applied to identify the intermediates formed on the catalyst surface and in the tail gas during oxidation, respectively. Results suggested that loading PdAg onto Fe 2 O 3 significantly enhanced the adsorption and activation of oxygen and cyclohexane, oxidative dehydrogenation of cyclohexane to benzene, and catalytic cracking of cyclohexane to olefins at low temperatures. This in-depth study will benefit the design and application of efficient catalysts for the effective combustion of VOCs at low temperatures.

Polymer semiconductors are promising candidates for wearable and skin-like X-ray detectors due to their scalable manufacturing, adjustable molecular structures and intrinsic flexibility. Herein, we fabricated an intrinsically stretchable n-type polymer semiconductor through spatial nanoconfinement effect for ultrasensitive X-ray detectors. The design of high-orientation nanofiber structures and dense interpenetrating polymer networks enhanced the electron-transporting efficiency and stability of the polymer semiconductors. The resultant polymer semiconductors exhibited an ultrahigh sensitivity of 1.52 × 10 4 μC Gy air -1 cm -2 , an ultralow detection limit of 37.7 nGy air s -1 (comparable to the record-low value of perovskite single crystals), and polymer film X-ray imaging was achieved at a low dose rate of 3.65 μGy air s -1 (about 1/12 dose rate of the commercial medical chest X-ray diagnosis). Meanwhile, the hybrid semiconductor films could sustain 100% biaxial stretching strain with minimal degeneracy in photoelectrical performances. Large area and highly aligned polymer semiconductor sub-microwires were fabricated using the coaxial focused electrohydrodynamic jet printing technology. As indicated by the results, the sub-microwire arrays have smooth morphology, well reproducibility and controllable with a width of ~110 nm. Analysis shows that the molecular chains inside the sub-microwires mainly exhibited edge-on arrangement and the π-stacking direction (010) of the majority of crystals is parallel to the long axis of the sub-microwires. Sub-microwires based organic field effect transistors showed high mobility with an average of 1.9 cm 2 V -1 s -1 , approximately 5 times higher than that of thin film based organic field effect transistors. In addition, the number of sub-microwires can be conveniently controlled by the printing technique, which can subsequently concisely control the performance of organic field effect transistors. We report the synthesis and dynamic covalent chemistry (DCvC) of an A1/A2-dimercapto-functionalized pillar[5]arene (Di-SH-P5). The introduction of thiol moieties into this macrocyclic host makes it an effective building block for making a dynamic combinatorial library (DCL), giving rise to a set of cyclic trimers with intriguing host-guest properties as the dominant constituents.

The emergence of wearable technology can significantly benefit from electronic displays fabricated using intrinsically stretchable (is-) materials. Typically, an improvement in the stretchability of conventional light-emitting polymers is accompanied by a decrease in charge transportability, thus resulting in a significant decrease in device efficiency. In this study, a self-assembled 3D penetrating nanonetwork is developed to achieve increased stretchability and mobility simultaneously, based on high-molecular-weight phenylenevinylene (L-SY-PPV) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN). The mobility of L-SY-PPV/PAN increases by 5-6 times and the stretchability increases from 20% (pristine L-SY-PPV film) to 100%. A high current efficiency (CE) of 8.13 cd A -1 is observed in polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) fabricated using 40% stretched L-SY-PPV/PAN. Furthermore, using a polyethyleneimine ethoxylated (PEIE), an 1,10-phenanthroline monohydrate (pBphen), and a reduced Triton X-100 (TR) chelated Zn-based is- electron-injection layer of Zn-PEIE-pBphen-TR, an is-PLED is realized with a turn-on voltage of 6.5 V and a high CE of 2.35 cd A -1 . An ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap/MS)-based metabolomics method was applied to investigate the chemome diversity of Schisandra chinensis fructus (SF) and its processed products, including vinegar-processed Schisandra (VS), wine-processed Schisandra (WS), and honey-processed Schisandra (HS). A clear classification among four Schisandra products was observed in the score plot of the partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) model, then 28 marker compounds were selected and identified. The content of most marker compounds in VS and WS was increased compared with that in SF, and the lowest content was observed in HS, then the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis was performed to confirm the change trends. These results suggested the chemical composition variation occurs in different Schisandra products, and the marker compounds selected in this study will be useful for the quality evaluation of Schisandra products.

High-performance ambipolar and electronic type semiconducting polymers are essential for fabricating various organic optoelectronic devices and complementary circuits. This review summarizes the strategies of improving the electron transport of semiconducting polymers via acceptor modulation strategies, which include the use of single, dual, triple, multiple, and all acceptors as well as the fusion of multiple identical acceptors to obtain new heterocyclic acceptors. To further improve the electron transport of semiconducting polymers, the introduction of strong electron-withdrawing groups can enhance the electron-withdrawing ability of donors and acceptors, thereby facilitating electron injection and suppressing hole accumulation. In addition, the relationships between the molecular structure, frontier molecular orbital energy levels, thin film morphology, microstructure, processing conditions, and device performances are also comprehensively discussed. Continuous progress in flexible electronics is bringing more convenience and comfort to human lives. In this field, interconnection and novel display applications are acknowledged as important future directions. However, it is a huge scientific and technical challenge to develop intrinsically flexible displays due to the limited size and shape of the display panel. To address this conundrum, it is crucial to develop intrinsically flexible electrode materials, semiconductor materials and dielectric materials, as well as the relevant flexible transistor drivers and display panels. In this review, we focus on the recent progress in this field from seven aspects: background and concept, intrinsically flexible electrode materials, intrinsically flexible organic semiconductors and dielectric materials for organic thin film transistors (OTFTs), intrinsically flexible organic emissive semiconductors for electroluminescent devices, and OTFT-driven electroluminescent devices for intrinsically flexible displays. A method with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography Quadrupole-Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS/MS) was applied for the quality evaluation of different processing and drying of American ginseng, including natural drying (ND), steam drying (SD), and vacuum freeze-drying (VFD). A total of 51 saponins were successfully identified in three processed products. Three processed American ginseng products were well-differentiated in orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). The S-plot also identified the marker compounds in each product, while the major ginsenosides of ND (malonyl (M)-Rd, M-Rb 1 , Rg 1 ), SD (20 (S)-Rg 3 , 20 (S)-Rg 2 ), and VFD (M-Rd, M-Rb 1 ) were found. The results indicate that the method by vacuum freeze-drying can retain the content of rare ginsenosides and malonyl-ginsenosides. In the past 20 years, many studies have been performed on ballast layer inspection and condition evaluation with ground penetrating radar (GPR). GPR is a non-destructive means that can reflect the ballast layer condition (fouling, moisture) by analysing the received signal variation. Even though GPR detection/inspection for ballast layers has become mature, some challenges still need to be stressed and solved, e.g., GPR indicator (for reflecting fouling level) development, quantitative evaluation for ballast fouling levels under diverse field conditions, rapid GPR inspection, and combining analysis of GPR results with other data (e.g., track stiffness, rail acceleration, etc.). Therefore, this paper summarised earlier studies on GPR application for ballast layer condition evaluation. How the GPR was used in the earlier studies was classified and discussed. In addition, how to correlate GPR results with ballast fouling level was also examined. Based on the summary, future developments can be seen, which is helpful for supplementing standards of ballast layer evaluation and maintenance.

Lophatherum gracile Brongn. is a medicinal and edible plant resource as well as a natural additive in the functional food market. To better understand its characteristics and efficacy, a method combining chromatographic fingerprints and antioxidant activity was proposed. A total of 21 common peaks were confirmed from liquid chromatography fingerprints and were identified as 14 flavonoids and 7 phenolic acids by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometry (Q-Orbitrap/MS). Their antioxidant activities were evaluated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-trinitrophenylhydrazine (DPPH), 2,2'-diazide-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. The results showed that all of the test samples had moderate to high antioxidant effects, with IC50 values ranging from 5.2 to 16.1 mg/ml and 1.2 to 2.8 mg/ml for DPPH and ABTS assays, and the FeSO 4 concentrations of 1.84-4.20 mmol/L for the FRAP assay. The spectrum-effect relationship between UHPLC fingerprints and antioxidant activity was investigated through Pearson correlation analysis and Grey relational analysis (GRA) to identify the antioxidant constitutes in Lophatherum gracile Brongn. Chemically stable chromenoquinoline (CQ)-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were constructed by postsynthetic conversion of imine COFs. The key step of an intramolecular Povarov reaction can transform a preintegrated alkyne group to bridge the benzene rings on both sides of the imine linkage via chemical bonds, affording a ladder-type CQ linkage. This novel approach achieves a high cyclization degree of 80-90%, which endows the CQ-COFs with excellent chemical stability toward strong acid, base, and redox reagents. The synthetic approach can be applied to various monomers with different symmetries and functional core moieties. The absorption and fluorescence intensities of CQ-COFs are sensitive to acid, which allows for dual-mode sensing of strongly acidic environments.

The optoelectronic skin is acknowledged as the world's current cutting-edge technology in the fields of wearable healthcare monitoring, soft robotics, artificial retinas, and so on. However, the difficulty in preparing stretchable photosensitive polymers and the high-crystallization nature of most reported photosensitive materials (such as perovskites) severely restrict the development of skin-like optoelectronic devices. Herein, a surface energy-induced self-assembly methodology is proposed to form easily transferrable and flexible perovskite quantum dot (PQD) films with a worm-like morphology. Furthermore, intrinsically stretchable phototransistors (ISTPTs) are fabricated based on a stretchable photosensitive layer heterojunction consisting of worm-like PQD films and hybrid polymer semiconductors. The obtained ISTPTs display highly sensitive response to high-energy photons of X-ray (with a detection limit of 79 nGy s -1 , that is 560 times lower than commercial medical chest X-ray diagnosis) and ultraviolet (with photosensitivity of 5 × 10 6 and detectable light intensity of 50 nW cm -2 among the highest performance of reported photodetectors). In addition, these ISTPTs demonstrate desirable e-skin characteristics with high strain tolerance, high sensing specificity, high optical transparency, and good skin conformability. SiO x is an important dielectric material layer for resistive switching memory due to its compatibility with complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Here we propose a solution process for a SiO x dielectric layer based on perhydropolysilazane (PHPS). A series of SiO x layers with different compositions are prepared by controlling the conversion process from PHPS, then the resistance switching behaviors of typical Ag/SiO x /Au memristors are analyzed. The effect of oxygen vacancies and Si-OH groups on the formation and rupture of Ag conducting filaments (CFs) in the SiO x layer was thoroughly investigated. Ultimately, we achieved a high-performance memristor with a coefficient of variation (σ/μ) as low as 0.16 ± 0.08 and an on/off ratio as high as 10 6 , which can rival the performance of the SiO x memristors based on the high-vacuum and high-cost vapor deposition methods. These findings demonstrate the high promise of the PHPS-derived SiO x dielectric layer in the field of memristors.
