Introduction: The context of transformations the society has been going through, especially considering economic, political, and technological issues, has added strains to modern work relations., Objectives: This study aimed to assess the existence and levels of burnout and the prevalence of minor mental disorders in a sample of public administrative employees of the Social Security Agency of Mato Grosso do Sul, in Brazil., Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that used the following research instruments: the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Self-Reporting Questionnaire, and a sociodemographic and occupational questionnaire developed specifically for this study., Results: The results showed a prevalence of 23.7% (n = 9) of suspected cases of minor mental disorders and extremely increased levels (91.4%) of one of the dimensions of burnout: reduced professional efficacy. Employees with suspected minor mental disorders presented higher levels of emotional exhaustion and lower levels of personal accomplishment., Conclusions: In addition to the reported evidence, we expect our findings to contribute to the development of strategies of preventive intervention and health promotion in this occupational sector., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest: None

Introduction: The agricultural and livestock production of Brazil and Mexico stand out in the global scenario. In this context, this economic activity is one of the most vulnerable, presenting alarming incidence and prevalence rates of work-related accidents and diseases., Objectives: This study characterized and compared the occurrence of occupational accidents and musculoskeletal pain, as well as the health-related quality of life of Pantanal farm workers (pantaneiros) in Brazil and their equivalents in Mexico - the ganaderos. This study included 100 farm workers of the Brazilian municipality of Aquidauana, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and the Mexican municipality of Atemajac the Brizuela, state of Jalisco., Methods: The research instruments used in this study were the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, a questionnaire on occupational accidents in rural areas, a sociodemographic and occupational questionnaire, and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey., Results: Among the participants, 84% of the Brazilians and 90% of the Mexicans suffered some type of accident; 48% of the Brazilians and 28% of the Mexicans reported lower back pain; and 36% of the Brazilians and 42% of the Mexicans reported knee pain. Both the Brazilian and Mexican workers had the best score (90.6) for emotional aspects of health-related quality of life, in contrast with their worst scores: pain (19.4 for Brazilian workers, 13.8 for Mexican workers)., Conclusions: These indicators imply that these workers are exposed to risks of accidents, pain, and illnesses that interfere with their health-related quality of life., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest: None

Introduction: A broad-scoped approach to the assessment, documentation and application of health inputs at the workplace is needed to perform effective interventions, reduce occupational hazards and promote workers' health and safety. Effective efforts might thus be organized into programs and initiatives to preserve and improve the health and safety of workers., Objective: To perform the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Dimensions of Corporate Safety Scorecard for use in Brazil to broaden the scope of means to approach and measure the effectiveness of workplace safety actions., Methods: The translation and cultural adaptation of the Dimensions of Corporate Safety Scorecard followed recommendations applied in similar studies which establish six steps: foreword translation, reconciliation, back translation, review by internal committee, cultural evaluation of the translation by an external expert panel (pretest) and final review., Results: Adoption of the described procedure enabled a detailed analysis of possible options in case of divergences in statements between versions. Thus the quality of the results was ensured and the semantic qualities of the original version were preserved in the translation., Conclusions: The Brazilian Portuguese version of Dimensions of Corporate Safety Scorecard, entitled "Questionário sobre Dimensões da Segurança Corporativa," obtained in the present study represents the first step in the use of this instrument for measurement of the effectiveness of health, safety and well-being actions in different work environments.

Objective: To compare a sample of injecting cocaine users and crack users, assessing sexual behavior, risk for infection by HIV and its seroprevalence., Method: 109 injecting cocaine users and 132 crack users were assessed, using the World Health Organization questionnaire from the expanded "Cross-Site Study of Behaviors and HIV Seroprevalence among Injecting Drug Users" and HIV serology. Data were assessed by Multiple Correspondences Analysis., Results: Crack users showed less time of drug consumption when compared to the injecting cocaine users. Despite this fact, they had higher rates of risky sexual activity, differences in poli-consumption of drugs, and higher rates of involvement in illegal issues. HIV seroprevalence among crack users, although lower than for injecting cocaine users (7% vs. 33%) is high when compared to the general population at the same age., Conclusions: Sexual behavior of crack users in the studied sample may be considered a risk factor for HIV infection. Crack users have access to information on HIV/ AIDS, but do not make use of it to change risk behaviors that may expose them to HIV infection and dissemination. HIV seroprevalence among crack users (7%) is concerning, which makes it necessary to create preventive strategies for HIV infection and dissemination that are specifically directed toward this population.
