Motivation: The number and size of computational models in biology have drastically increased over the past years and continue to grow. Modeled networks are becoming more complex, and reconstructing them from the beginning in an exchangeable and reproducible manner is challenging. Using precisely defined ontologies enables the encoding of field-specific knowledge and the association of disparate data types. In computational modeling, the medium for representing domain knowledge is the set of orthogonal structured controlled vocabularies named Systems Biology Ontology (SBO). The SBO terms enable modelers to explicitly define and describe model entities, including their roles and characteristics., Results: Here, we present the first standalone tool that automatically assigns SBO terms to multiple entities of a given SBML model, named the SBOannotator. The main focus lies on the reactions, as the correct assignment of precise SBO annotations requires their extensive classification. Our implementation does not consider only top-level terms but examines the functionality of the underlying enzymes to allocate precise and highly specific ontology terms to biochemical reactions. Transport reactions are examined separately and are classified based on the mechanism of molecule transport. Pseudo-reactions that serve modeling purposes are given reasonable terms to distinguish between biomass production and the import or export of metabolites. Finally, other model entities, such as metabolites and genes, are annotated with appropriate terms. Often, it is the question to the medical expert, if there is a causality in the lawful sense from professional effort or psychical stress to acute coronary death or acute myocardial infarction. Following the German social law the connection has to be probably. Probability is well defined juridically opposite to possibility. The medical expert has to answer if the physical or psychical stress has caused the fatality or not more than manifested. Here are discussed arguments that the atheromatosis of the coronary vessels has much more importance than the manifestation of acute death or myocardial infarction caused by spasmus. There is no evidence for the existence of spastic genesis without any arteriosclerotic focus.

According to our knowledge to day the cause of a heart infarction is a stenosing atheromatosis of the coronary vessels or an associated coronary thrombosis. Here are described two cases with unusual precipitating factors of a heart infarction, one by an anaphylactic reaction caused by smallpox vaccination, the other case caused by a very intensive stress situation. As the basic condition in the two cases was accepted a coronary heart disease but the described events were considered by the author as the determinating concomitant cause for the social accident insurance in consequence of their intensity and acuteness.

Serum LH, FSH and immunoreactive testosterone-like substances (TLS) have been measured by radioimmunoassay in 130 male infertility patients and oestradiol 17beta in 26 cases. A weak but significant negative correlation was found between FSH and sperm count (rs = -0.19, p less than 0.05) but not LH and sperm count. However, LH and FSH were strongly correlated in the azoospermic (rs = 0.71, p less than 0.01) and oligozoospermic (rs = 0.53, p less than 0.01) groups and levels of both gonadotrophins were significantly elevated in the azoospermic and oligozoospermic as compared to the normozoospermic group. The elevated LH levels in the oligozoo- and azoospermic groups could not be explained by reduced negative feedback of testosterone or oestradiol 17beta since firstly, TLS and oestradiol 17beta levels were similar in all three groups and, secondly, within-group correlations between LH and TLS were either non-significant or positive (azoospermic group r = 0.37, p = 0.06). It is suggested that spermatogenesis-related feedback factor(s) may inhibit LH as well as FSH secretion. No role for oestradiol 17beta as a selective inhibitor of FSH secretion seemed likely as oestradiol 17beta levels were similar in the three groups and were correlated (r = 0.51, p less than 0.01) to TLS levels i.e. to leydig cell rather than spermatogenic function. Seminal fructose was negatively correlated (r = -0.26, p less than 0.01) with sperm count but not significantly with plasma TLS. It would thus seem unlikely that the tendency for seminal fructose levels to increase as sperm count decreases is due to increased androgen production or that seminal fructose can be used as an index of a patient's androgenic status. Patients with varicoceles had hormone levels similar to other patients of similar sperm count. Both sperm morphology and motility were strongly correlated to log sperm count (r = 0.84 and 0.55 respectively) and semen volume was significantly greater in oligozoospermic than normozoospermic patients (p less than 0.01).

Abnormally high brain aluminum concentrations have been detected in hemodialysis patients who died of an unexplained encephalopathy. As a result, this study was undertaken to examine whether the ingestion of aluminum produces behavioral aberrations in non-dialysed human subjects and rats with ostensibly normal renal function. Rats were fed AlCl3 by intubation in varying doses, and tests measuring learning ability, visual temporal acuity, motor coordination and activity were administered. It was found that orally ingested aluminum is absorbed by rats and deposited in the brain. High brain aluminum levels are associated with rapid general activity, decreased ability to maintain roto-rod activity, and increased sensitivity to flicker. Behavioral tests were also given to elderly human subjects and performance correlated with serum aluminum level. High serum levels of aluminum in elderly humans are associated with impaired visuo-motor coordination, poor long-term memory, and increased sensitivity to flicker.
