Ayurveda based nanomaterials are recently conceptualized phenomena for biomedical applications especially for imaging and treatment of in vitro cancer cell. Wide range florescent (blue to red emission) quantum dots are versatile materials for imaging and sensing applications. Various procedures and precursors of fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are well established and documented in the literature. However, expensive precursors and production, and time consuming process limit their economical design that need to be addressed. Herein, we report a cost effective simple route for fluorescent CQDs by using affordable ayurvedic plant's precursors such as Azadirachta Indica, OcimumTenuiflorum and Tridax Procumbens. Obtained quantum dots from ayurvedic plant leaves namely CQDs-1 (AzadirachtaIndica), CQDs-2 (OcimumTenuiflorum) and CQDs-3 (TridaxProcumbens) showed homogeneous size distribution (∼6-12 nm) and green fluorescent nature, average photo-stability, biocompatibility (more than 85 %), cancer cell imaging and promising phototherapy for cancer and bacterial cell lines., (© 2019 The Authors.)

A new series of Cr(III) macrocyclic complexes have been synthesized by template condensation of ligands 2-[4-chloro-2-(2-oxo-1,2-diphenyl-ethylideneamino)-phenylimino]-1,2-diphenyl-ethanone (ML(1)) and 2-[4-fluro-2-(2-oxo-1,2-diphenyl-ethylideneamino)-phenylimino]-1,2-diphenyl-ethanone (ML(2)) respectively, with appropriate diamines i.e. 1,2-phenylenediamine, 4- chloro 1,2-phenylenediamine and 4-fluro- 1,2-phenylenediamine in the presence of CrCl(3).6H(2)O. The ligands and their complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectral studies including IR, ESR, electronic spectra and X-ray powder diffraction studies. On the basis of these studies, a six-coordinated octahedral geometry has been proposed for all these complexes. The newly synthesized ligands and their complexes have been screened for their antimicrobial, nematicidal and pesticidal activities. The results are indeed positive.

The present article deals with the synthesis, spectral characterization and antimicrobial activity of a series of new complexes of chromium(III) and manganese(II)of general formula [Cr(Macn)Cl2]·Cl and [Mn(Macn)Cl2] respectively. These complexes were prepared via template reaction by mixing methanolic solution of diacetyldihydrazone, diacids (oxalic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid and adipic acid) with CrCl3·6H2O and MnCl2·4H2O in 2:2:1 M ratios respectively. The newly synthesized complexes were characterized on the basis of chemical analysis and spectral studies like IR, UV, ESR and X-ray diffraction. An octahedral structure has been proposed for the chromium(III) and manganese(II)macrocyclic complexes. The synthesized complexes were further tested in vitro against fungi and bacteria in order to assess their antibacterial and antifungal activities. The present work stems from our interest in the synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of lanthanide(III) complexes of a class of coumarin based imines which have been prepared by the interaction of hydrated lanthanide(III) chloride with the sodium salts of 3-acetylcoumarin thiosemicarbazone (ACTSZH) and 3-acetylcoumarin semicarbazone (ACSZH) in 1:3 molar ratio using thermal as well as microwave method. Characterization of the ligands as well as the metal complexes have been carried out by elemental analysis, melting point determinations, molecular weight determinations, magnetic moment, molar conductance, IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, electronic, EPR, X-ray powder diffraction and mass spectral studies. Spectral studies confirm ligands to be monofunctional bidentate and octahedral environment around metal ions. The redox behavior of one of the synthesized metal complex was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Further, free ligands and their metal complexes have been screened for their antimicrobial as well as DNA cleavage activity. A new series of Pd(II) macrocyclic complexes have been synthesized by template condensation of bis(benzil)4-chloro 1,2-phenylenediamine (ML1) and bis(benzil)4-fluro 1,2-phenylenediamine (ML2) respectively, with appropriate diamine i.e. 1,2-phenylenediamine, 4-chloro 1,2-phenylenediamine and 4-fluro 1,2-phenylenediamine in the presence of PdCl2 to form complexes of the type [Pd(C40H26N4ClF)]Cl2, [Pd(C40H27N4X)]Cl2 and [Pd(C40H26N4X2)]Cl2, where X=Cl, F. The complexes have been characterized with the help of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, electronic spectra, conductance measurement, magnetic susceptibility, cyclic voltammetry and X-ray powder diffraction studies. On the basis of these studies a square planar geometry has been proposed around the metal ion. The newly synthesized ligands and their complexes have been screened for antimicrobial and pesticidal activities. The results obtained from bioassays indicate that this class of compounds can be utilized for the design of new substance with pesticidal activity and promising antimicrobial activity., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier B.V. A series of Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with two N(∩)S donor ligands, 5-chloro-3-(indolin-2-one)benzothiazoline and 6-nitro-3-(indolin-2-one)benzothiazoline, have been synthesized by the reaction of metal chlorides (PdCl2 and PtCl2) with ligands in 1:2 molar ratios. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, melting point determinations and a combination of electronic, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques for structure elucidation. In order to evaluate the effect of metal ions upon chelation, both the ligands and their complexes have been screened for their antimicrobial activity against the various pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains. The metal complexes have shown to be more antimicrobial against the microbial species as compared to free ligands. One of the ligands, 5-chloro-3-(indolin-2-one)benzothiazoline and its corresponding palladium and platinum complexes have been tested for their antifertility activity in male albino rats. The marked reduction in sperm motility and density resulted in infertility by 62-90%. Significant alterations were found in biochemical parameters of reproductive organs in treated animals as compared to control group. Reactions of 3-acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene with thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide hydrochloride resulted in the formation of new heterocyclic ketimines, 3-acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene thiosemicarbazone (C(9)H(13)N(3)OS(2) or L(1)H) and 3-acetyl-2,5- dimethylthiophene semicarbazone (C(9)H(13)N(3)OS or L(2)H), respectively. The Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes have been synthesized by mixing metal salts in 1:2 molar ratios with these ligands by using microwave as well as conventional heating method for comparison purposes. The authenticity of these ligands and their complexes has been established on the basis of elemental analysis, melting point determinations, molecular weight determinations, IR, (1)H NMR and UV spectral studies. These studies showed that the ligands coordinate to the metal atom in a monobasic bidentate manner and square planar environment around the metal atoms has been proposed to the complexes. Both the ligands and their complexes have been screened for their antimicrobial activities.
