The recent emergence of quantum-confined nanomaterials in the field of radiation detection, in particular lead halide perovskite nanocrystals, offers scalability and performance advantages over conventional materials. This development raises fundamental questions about the mechanism of scintillation itself at the nanoscale and the role of particle size, arguably the most defining parameter of quantum dots. Understanding this is crucial for the design and optimization of future nanotechnology scintillators. In this work, these open questions are addressed by theoretically and experimentally studying the size-dependent scintillation of CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations, spectroscopic, and radiometric techniques. The results show that the simultaneous effects of size-dependent energy deposition, (multi-)exciton population, and light emission under ionizing excitation, typical of confined particles, combine to maximize the scintillation efficiency and time performance of larger nanocrystals due to greater stopping power and reduced Auger decay. The agreement between theory and experiment produces a fully validated descriptive model that predicts the scintillation yield and kinetics of nanocrystals without free parameters, providing fundamental guidance for the rational design of nanoscale scintillators., (© 2024 The Author(s). Pressure-modulated self-trapped exciton (STE) emission mechanism in all-inorganic lead-free metal halide double perovskites characterized by large Stokes-shifted broadband emission, has attracted much attention across various fields such as optics, optoelectronics, and biomedical sciences. Here, by employing the all-inorganic lead-free metal halide double perovskite Cs 2 TeCl 6 as a paradigm, the authors elucidate that the performance of STE emission can be modulated by pressure, attributable to the pressure-induced evolution of the electronic state (ES). Two ES transitions happen at pressures of 1.6 and 5.8 GPa, sequentially. The electronic behaviors of Cs 2 TeCl 6 can be jointly modulated by both pressure and ES transitions. When the pressure reaches 1.6 GPa, the Huang-Rhys factor S, indicative of the strength of electron-phonon coupling, attains an optimum value of ≈12.0, correlating with the pressure-induced photoluminescence (PL) intensity of Cs 2 TeCl 6 is 4.8-fold that of its PL intensity under ambient pressure. Organic-inorganic hybrid manganese(II) halides (OIMnHs) have garnered tremendous interest across a wide array of research fields owing to their outstanding optical properties, abundant structural diversity, low-cost solution processibility, and low toxicity, which make them extremely suitable for use as a new class of luminescent materials for various optoelectronic applications. Over the past years, a plethora of OIMnHs with different structural dimensionalities and multifunctionalities such as efficient photoluminescence (PL), radioluminescence, circularly polarized luminescence, and mechanoluminescence have been newly created by judicious screening of the organic cations and inorganic Mn(II) polyhedra. Specifically, through precise molecular and structural engineering, a series of OIMnHs with near-unity PL quantum yields, high anti-thermal quenching properties, and excellent stability in harsh conditions have been devised and explored for applications in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), X-ray scintillators, multimodal anti-counterfeiting, and fluorescent sensing. In this review, the latest advancements in the development of OIMnHs as efficient light-emitting materials are summarized, which covers from their fundamental physicochemical properties to advanced optoelectronic applications, with an emphasis on the structural and functionality design especially for LEDs and X-ray detection and imaging. Tautomers coexisting in an equilibrium system have significant potential for regulating luminescent properties because of their structural differences. However, separating and stabilizing tautomers at room temperature is a considerable challenge. In this study, it is found that hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) composed of Br - anions can effectively separate and stabilize two proton-transfer tautomers of triarylformamidinium bromide: namely, the nitrogen cation (BA-N) and carbon cation (BA-C). The BA-N crystal consisting of a dense anionic HOF and parallelly aligned organic cations exhibits green thermally activated delayed fluorescence and red room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP). The BA-C crystal contains acetone molecules that induce an antiparallel arrangement of the organic cations to form a loose HOF, producing blue prompt fluorescence and green RTP. Interestingly, switching of the HOFs between BA-N and BA-C can be achieved through the uptake and release of acetone, thereby dynamically adjusting multiple luminescent properties. Consequently, the HOF crystals can be used for the highly sensitive and specific sensing of acetone with a detection limit of 66.74 ppm. The photoluminescent properties of lanthanide complexes have been thoroughly investigated; however, there have been much fewer studies showcasing their potential use in ionizing radiation detection. In this work, we delve into the photo- and radio-induced luminescence of a series of lanthanide-bearing organic-inorganic hybrids and their potential as a platform for X-ray scintillation and imaging. The judicious synergy between lanthanide cations and 2,6-di(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)isonicotinate (bppCOO - ) ligands affords six new materials with three distinct structures. Notably, Eu-bppCOO-1 and Tb-bppCOO-2 display sharp fingerprint X-ray-excited luminescence (XEL), the intensities of which can be linearly correlated with the X-ray dose rates over a broad dynamic range (0.007-4.55 mGy s -1 ). Moreover, the X-ray sensing efficacies of Eu-bppCOO-1 and Tb-bppCOO-2 were evaluated, showing that Tb-bppCOO-2 features a lower detection limit of 4.06 μGy s -1 compared to 14.55 μGy s -1 of Eu-bppCOO-1. Given the higher X-ray sensitivity and excellent radiation stability of Tb-bppCOO-2, we fabricated a flexible scintillator film for X-ray imaging by embedding finely ground Tb-bppCOO-2 in the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer. X-ray imaging plays an increasingly crucial role in clinical radiography, industrial inspection, and military applications. However, current X-ray imaging technologies have difficulty in protecting against information leakage caused by brute force attacks via trial-and-error. Here high-confidentiality X-ray imaging encryption by fabricating ultralong radioluminescence memory films composed of lanthanide-activated nanoscintillators (NaLuF 4 : Gd 3+ or Ce 3+ ) with imperceptible purely-ultraviolet (UV) emission is reported. Mechanistic investigations unveil that ultralong X-ray memory is attributed to the long-lived trapping of thermalized charge carriers within Frenkel defect states and subsequent slow release in the form of imperceptible radioluminescence. The encrypted X-ray imaging can be securely stored in the memory film for more than 7 days and optically decoded by perovskite nanocrystal. Importantly, this encryption strategy can protect X-ray imaging information against brute force trial-and-error attacks through the perception of lifetime change in the persistent radioluminescence. It is further demonstrated that the as-fabricated flexible memory film enables achieving of 3D X-ray imaging encryption of curved objects with a high spatial resolution of 20 lp/mm and excellent recyclability. Self-trapped exciton (STE) emission, typified by antimony (Sb), with broadband characteristics, represents the next generation of materials for solid-state lighting and radiation detection. However, little is known about the multiexciton behavior of the Sb emission center. Here, we proposed a general approach for designing antimony-centered multi-exciton emitting materials through self-assembly. Benefitting from controllable multiexciton behavior, dual-band white light emission spanning the entire visible spectrum was achieved. Relying on the reduction of an effective atomic number brought by self-assembly, excellent scintillation response to β-rays was attained. Low dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide materials have attracted extensive attention due to their superior optoelectronic properties. However, low photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) caused by parity-forbidden transition hinder their further application in optoelectronic devices. Herein, a novel yellow-emitting PMA 4 Na(In,Sb)Cl 8 (C 7 H 10 N + , PMA + ) low-dimensional OIMHs single crystal with a PLQY as high as 88 % was successfully designed and synthesized, originating from the fact that the doping of Sb 3+ effectively relaxes the parity-forbidden transition by strong spin-orbit (SO) coupling and Jahn-Teller (JT) interaction. The as-prepared crystal shows an efficient dual emission peaking 495 and 560 nm at low temperature, which are ascribed to different levels of 3 P 1 → 1 S 0 transitions of Sb 3+ in [SbCl 6 ] 3- octahedral caused by JT deformation. Moreover, wide-range luminescence tailoring from cyan to orange can be achieved through adjusting excitation energy and temperature because of flexible [SbCl 6 ] 3- octahedral in the PNIC lattice. Based on a relative stiff lattice environment, the 560 nm yellow emission under 350 nm light excitation exhibits abnormal anti-thermal quenching from 8 to 400 K owing to the suppression of non-radiative transition. Phytocytokines belong to a category of small secreted peptides with signaling functions that play pivotal roles in diverse plant physiological processes. However, due to low levels of sequence conservation across plant species and poorly understood biological functions, the accurate detection and annotation of corresponding genes is challenging. The availability of a high-quality apple (Malus domestica) genome has enabled the exploration of five phytocytokine gene families, selected on the basis of their altered expression profiles in response to biotic stresses. These include phytosulfokine, inflorescence deficient in abscission/-like, pathogen-associated molecular pattern induced secreted peptide, plant peptide containing sulfated tyrosine, and C-terminally encoded peptide. The genes encoding the precursors of these five families of signaling peptides were identified using a customized bioinformatics protocol combining genome mining, homology searches, and peptide motif detection. Transcriptomic analyses showed that these peptides were deregulated in response to Erwinia amylovora, the causal agent of fire blight in pome fruit trees, and in response to a chemical elicitor (acibenzolar-S-methyl). One of the most significant challenges of luminescent materials is the thermal quenching (TQ) at high temperature. Understanding the correlation between crystal structure variation and photoluminescence (PL) quenching is significant to achieve anti-thermal quenching (anti-TQ) phosphors. Herein, we unveil a universal principle governing switchable TQ and anti-TQ behaviors in zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic hybrid manganese bromides. We observed an abnormal anti-TQ phenomenon when phosphor is excited in the valley of PL excitation (PLE) spectrum (indirect excitation) while TQ phenomenon is observed when excited in the peak and shoulder positions of PLE. Our findings demonstrate that PL intensity is influenced by two variable parameters: the effective Mn-ligand distance and the shortest Mn-Mn distance. These excitation-dependent TQ and anti-TQ behaviors originate from the relative changes in these distances, which modulate the competition between radiative and nonradiative recombination rates, as evidenced at the molecular level by molecular dynamics simulation. X-ray activated radioluminescence (RL) also exhibits anti-TQ behavior, which is analogous to the indirect excitation of PL evolution when excited at PLE valley. The aim of the present study was to determine if anodal transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS) affects corticospinal excitability (CSE) and voluntary activation (VA) of the quadriceps femoris muscle (QM). This was a double-blind, randomized study in which spine-shoulder anodal tsDCS (active electrode centered over T11-12, 2.5 mA, 20 min) was applied in a seated position. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) was used to measure motor evoked potentials (MEP) and construct stimulus-response curves in healthy participants (eight females and five males, Experiment 1). VA was measured via the interpolated twitch technique, whereby muscle twitches were evoked using electrical femoral nerve stimulation and TMS (seven females and six males, Experiment 2). Measurements were carried out before, directly, and 30 min after sham and anodal tsDCS (with ≥4 days between sessions). There was no interaction between stimulation × time on stimulus-response curve expressed by slope, stimulus intensity corresponding to 50% of the maximal MEP, and peak-to-peak amplitude of the maximal MEP. Maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) torque did not change and VA was not affected regardless of the QM torque level (25, 50, or 100% of MVIC). A single, twenty-minute session of spine-shoulder anodal tsDCS did not increase CSE and VA of QM during submaximal and maximal contraction. The present study examined the transition patterns in latent classes of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and post-traumatic growth among a sample of youth 4-13 months after an explosion accident in China. Latent profile analyses identified consistent three classes (Resilient, Growing, and High-Symptom) at both waves. Latent transition analysis found most Resilient individuals remained stable while most Growing and High-symptom individuals transferred. Logistic regression predicting transition pathways suggests younger individuals, males, and those who lack social support are prone to experience reduced post-traumatic growth, whereas individuals with higher trauma exposure are prone to develop PTSD. Our study provides empirical evidence supporting qualitative transitions in PTSD and post-traumatic growth levels from a person-centred perspective. Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) composed of multicomponent molecules in a non-stoichiometric composition have drawn great interest due to their tunable properties. However, the photobehavior of the single crystals of such mixed HOFs has not been explored. Here, we report on the synthesis, characterization and photobehavior of single crystalline non-stoichiometric HOFs (NS-HOFs). NS-HOFs (B T N T -1) with various composition ratios were successfully obtained as single crystals from two analogue tetratopic carboxylic acids, possessing naphthalene and benzothiadiazole cores (NTTA and BTTA, respectively). The heterogeneous distribution of the components was thoroughly confirmed by time-resolved fluorescence microscopy and local crystallographic analysis using focused synchrotron X-ray radiation. The versatile fluorescence of B T N T -1 behavior depends on the composition ratio and distribution of the component in the single crystals. We observed not only fluorescence bands with various colors such as purple, blue, green and white, depending on the composition ratios, but also different emission bands from a single crystal. We provide details on their emission lifetimes following the composition, emission color and targeted region on the crystal. This work is the first example of single crystal studies applied to organic porous co-crystals and demonstrates unique and versatile optical properties of carboxylic acid-based NS-HOFs. Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease marked by motor neuron degeneration, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis, with no effective treatments available. Early diagnosis could slow disease progression and optimize treatment. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are being investigated as potential biomarkers due to their regulatory roles in cellular processes and stability in biofluids. However, variability across studies complicates their diagnostic utility in ALS. This study aims to identify significantly dysregulated miRNAs in ALS through meta-analysis to elucidate disease mechanisms and improve diagnostic strategies., Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library, following predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary effect measure was the standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval, analyzed using a random-effects model. Additionally, we used network pharmacology to examine the targets of dysregulated miRNAs and their roles in ALS pathology., Results: Analysing 34 studies, we found significant upregulation of hsa-miR-206, hsa-miR-133b, hsa-miR-23a, and hsa-miR-338-3p, and significant downregulation of hsa-miR-218, hsa-miR-21-5p, and hsa-let-7b-5p in ALS patients. These miRNAs are involved in ALS pathophysiology, including stress granule formation, nuclear pore complex, SMCR8 and Sig1R dysfunction, histone methyltransferase complex alterations, and MAPK signaling perturbation, highlighting their critical role in ALS progression., Conclusion: This study identifies several dysregulated miRNAs in ALS patients, offering insights into their role in the disease and potential as diagnostic biomarkers. These findings enhance our understanding of ALS mechanisms and may inform future diagnostic strategies. In recent years, the performance of metal halide perovskite (MHP)-based detectors (photon, biomedical, and X-ray detection) has significantly improved, resulting in higher carrier mobilities, longer carrier diffusion lengths, and excellent absorption coefficients. However, the widespread adoption of halide perovskites has been hindered by issues related to their stability and toxicity. Various strategies have been adopted to address these challenges, focusing on enhancing ambient stability and reducing toxicity by encapsulating MHPs within stable and robust host materials, such as silicon compounds, metal oxides, chalcogenides, and lead-free perovskites. This review focuses on recent developments in hybrid nanostructure-based detectors (photon, biomedical, and X-ray), particularly core/shell architectures, and provides a comprehensive analysis of techniques for mitigating degradation due to light and oxygen exposure, UV irradiance, and thermal effects. Excitation-wavelength-dependent (Ex-De) emitters are a fascinating category of luminescent materials whose emission properties vary with the wavelength of the light used for excitation. Antimony (Sb 3+ )-doped indium (In)-based metal halides are efficient light emitters; however, the peak fluorescence emission of most Sb 3+ -activated In-halide remains independent of the excitation wavelength. Here, the study introduces a new Sb 3+ -doped In-halide cluster, (BDPA) 2 InCl 5 :Sb (BDPA + = C 15 H 18 N + , benzyldimethylphenylammonium), which demonstrates efficient Ex-De emission originating from the on-off switchable fluorescence behavior of singlet self-trapped exciton (STE) in 5-coordinate Sb 3+ dopant. Interestingly, when excited within the range of 240-370 nm, photoluminescence (PL) spectra of (BDPA) 2 InCl 5 :Sb show both singlet and triplet STE emission. However, under excitation wavelengths of 370 to 420 nm, the singlet STE emission is absent, resulting in a noticeable correlated color temperature change from 1700 to 3800 K. Current phototherapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease (AD) exhibit restricted clinical outcomes due to the limited physical penetration and comprised brain microenvironment of noninvasive nanomedicine. Herein, a hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) based sonosensitizer is designed and synthesized. Mn-TCPP, a planar molecule where Mn 2+ ion is chelated in the core with a large p-conjugated system and 4 carboxylate acid groups, has been successfully used as building blocks to construct an ultrasound-sensitive HOF (USI-MHOF), which can go deep in the brain of AD animal models. The both in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that USI-MHOF can generate singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and oxidize β-amyloid (Aβ) to inhibit aggregation, consequently attenuating Aβ neurotoxicity. More intriguingly, USI-MHOF exhibits catalase (CAT)- and superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activities, mitigating neuron oxidative stress and reprograming the brain microenvironment. For better crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB), the peptide KLVFFAED (KD8) has been covalently grafted to USI-MHOF for improving BBB permeability and Aβ selectivity. Further, in vivo experiments demonstrate a significant reduction of the craniocerebral Aβ plaques and improvement of the cognition deficits in triple-transgenic AD (3×Tg-AD) mice models following deep-penetration ultrasound treatment. Objectives: This study aimed to apply diffusion-weighted imaging to the evaluation of cervical lymph nodes affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ)., Methods: This retrospective study analysed the diffusion-weighted imaging data of 70 patients with or without MRONJ (Stages 0-3). The mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of the submandibular (level IB) and superior internal jugular (level IIA) nodes in the control and MRONJ groups were calculated, and differences were analysed using the Mann-Whitney test. Moreover, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the ability of ADC values to predict lymph nodes that were affected by MRONJ. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: The median [interquartile range] (×10 -3  mm 2 /s) of level IB was 0.74 [0.7-0.81] and 0.93 [0.84-1.09] and that of level IIA was 0.79 [0.76-0.85] and 0.97 [0.84-1.06] in the control and MRONJ groups respectively. ROC analysis revealed that the ADC value had excellent ability to discriminate between the control and MRONJ groups., Conclusions: The study findings indicate that diffusion-weighted imaging can contribute to differentiation of MRONJ from other cervical lymph node diseases and facilitate early detection of MRONJ., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Adding silicon (Si) to graphite (Gr) anodes is an effective approach for boosting the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, but it also triggers mechanical instability due to Si volume changes upon (de)lithiation reactions. In this work, component-specific (de)lithiation dynamics on Si-rich (30 and 70 wt.% Si) SiGr anodes at various charge/discharge C-rates are unveiled and compared to a graphite-only electrode (100Gr) via operando synchrotron X-ray diffraction coupled with differential capacity plots analysis. Results show preferential lithiation of amorphous Si above ≈200 mV and competing lithiation of Gr, amorphous Si, and crystalline Si below ≈200 mV. Discharge proceeds via sequential delithiation of Gr and amorphous lithium silicide. Si shifts the interconversion potentials of graphite intercalation compounds, lowering the Gr state of charge compared to 100Gr. In the 30% Si electrode, crystalline Si amorphization at potentials <110 mV is found to be kinetically hindered at C-rates higher than C/5, which can be key for enhancing the cycling stability of SiGr anodes. The 70% Si electrode exhibits restricted lithium diffusion in Gr, full Si amorphization, and Li 15 Si 4 formation. These findings related to the potential- and current-dependent dynamic changes on SiGr blends are crucial for designing stable high energy density SiGr anodes., (© 2024 The Author(s). Leaf senescence and abscission in autumn are critical phenological events in deciduous woody perennials. After leaf fall, dormant buds remain on deciduous woody perennials, which then enter a winter dormancy phase. Thus, leaf fall is widely believed to be linked to the onset of dormancy. In Rosaceae fruit trees, DORMANCY-ASSOCIATED MADS-box (DAM) transcription factors control bud dormancy. However, apart from their regulatory effects on bud dormancy, the biological functions of DAMs have not been thoroughly characterized. In this study, we revealed a novel DAM function influencing leaf senescence and abscission in autumn. In Prunus mume, PmDAM6 expression was gradually up-regulated in leaves during autumn toward leaf fall. Our comparative transcriptome analysis using two RNA-seq datasets for the leaves of transgenic plants overexpressing PmDAM6 and peach (Prunus persica) DAM6 (PpeDAM6) indicated Prunus DAM6 may up-regulate the expression of genes involved in ethylene biosynthesis and signaling as well as leaf abscission. Significant increases in 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate accumulation and ethylene emission in DEX-treated 35S:PmDAM6-GR leaves reflect the inductive effect of PmDAM6 on ethylene biosynthesis. Additionally, ethephon treatments promoted autumn leaf senescence and abscission in apple and P. mume, mirroring the changes due to PmDAM6 overexpression. Collectively, these findings suggest that PmDAM6 may induce ethylene emission from leaves, thereby promoting leaf senescence and abscission. This study clarified the effects of Prunus DAM6 on autumn leaf fall, which is associated with bud dormancy onset. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), with their accessible nanoscale porosity, selectable building blocks, and precisely engineered topology, offer unique benefits in the design of room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials. However, their potential has been limited by phosphorescence quenching caused by interlayer π-π stacking interactions. This paper presents a novel strategy to enhance RTP in heavy-atom-free COFs by employing a donor-acceptor (D-A) system that leverages the Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and Dexter energy transfer (DET) mechanisms. Among the materials investigated, the best-performing COF exhibits a phosphorescence lifetime of 4.35 ms at room temperature. Spectral analysis, structural analysis, and theoretical calculations indicate the presence of intralayer FRET processes as well as interlayer DET processes within the D-A COF system. Potential anti-counterfeiting applications are explored by exploiting the unique phosphorescent properties of these materials. Additionally, the inherent permanent porosity of COFs presents new opportunities for future development and application. Early detection and treatment are crucial for Alzheimer's disease (AD) management. Current diagnostic and therapeutic methods focus on late-stage amyloid fibrils and plaques, overlooking toxic soluble amyloid β oligomers (AβOs) accumulating early in AD. A multifunctional liposome-based platform is designed for early diagnosis and therapy of AD, leveraging a novel self-assembled cyclic d,l-α-peptide (CP-2) that selectively targets AβOs. Biocompatible CP-2 conjugated liposomes (CP-2-LPs) effectively disrupt Aβ aggregation and mitigate Aβ-mediated toxicity in human neuroblastoma cells. In transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans AD models, CP-2-LPs significantly outperformed free CP-2 by improving cognitive and behavioral functions, extending lifespan, and reducing toxic AβO levels. Intravenous injection of fluorescently labeled CP-2-LPs reveals effective blood-brain barrier penetration, with significantly higher brain fluorescence in transgenic mice than WT, enabling precise diagnosis. Successful implementation of X-ray-activated photodynamic therapy (X-PDT) is challenging because most photosensitizers (PSs) absorb light in the blue region, but few nanoscintillators produce efficient blue scintillation. Here, efficient blue-emitting SrF 2 :Eu scintillating nanoparticles (ScNPs) are developed. The optimized synthesis conditions result in cubic nanoparticles with ≈32 nm diameter and blue emission at 416 nm. Coating them with the meso-tetra(n-methyl-4-pyridyl) porphyrin (TMPyP) in a core-shell structure (SrF@TMPyP) results in maximum singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) generation upon X-ray irradiation for nanoparticles with 6TMPyP depositions (SrF@6TMPyP). The 1 O 2 generation is directly proportional to the dose, does not vary in the low-energy X-ray range (48-160 kVp), but is 21% higher when irradiated with low-energy X-rays than irradiations with higher energy gamma rays. In the clonogenic assay, cancer cells treated with SrF@6TMPyP and exposed to X-rays present a significantly reduced survival fraction compared to the controls. The SrF 2 :Eu ScNPs and their conjugates stand out as tunable nanoplatforms for X-PDT due to the efficient blue emission from the SrF 2 :Eu cores; the ability to adjust the scintillation emission in terms of color and intensity by controlling the nanoparticle size; the efficient 1 O 2 production when conjugated to a PS and the efficacy of killing cancer cells., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Exposing different facets on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is highly desirable to enhance the performance for various applications, however, exploiting a concise and effective approach to achieve facet-controlled synthesis of MOFs remains challenging. Here, by modulating the ratio of metal precursors to ligands, the facet-engineered iron-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs) exhibits enhanced catalytic activity for Fenton reaction are explored, and the mechanism of facet-dependent performance is revealed in detail. Fully exposed (101) and (100) facets on spindle-shaped Fe-MOFs enable rapid oxidation of colorless o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to colored products, thereby establishing a dual-mode platform for the detection of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and triacetone triperoxide (TATP). Thus, a detection limit as low as 2.06 nm is achieved, and robust selectivity against a wide range of common substances (>16 types) is obtained, which is further improved by incorporating a deep learning architecture with an SE-VGG16 network model, enabling precise differentiation of oxidizing agents from captured images. Aggregation is a conventional method to enhance the quantum yields (QYs) of pure organic luminophores due to the restriction of intramolecular motions (RIM). However, how to realize RIM in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is still unclear and challenging. In this work, the ligand meta-anchoring strategy is first proposed and proved to be an effective and systematic approach to restrict the intramolecular motions of MOFs for the QY improvement. By simply shifting the substituent position in the ligand from para to meta, the QY of the resulting MOF is significantly enhanced by eleven-fold. The value is even higher than that of ligand aggregates, demonstrating the strong RIM effect of this ligand meta-anchoring strategy. The introduction of co-ligand induces the appearance of visible yellow room temperature phosphorescence with a lifetime of 222 ms due to the QY enhancement and the charge transfer between the donor and accepter units. The present work thus broadens the understanding of the RIM mechanism from a new perspective, develops a novel method to realize RIM and expands the applicable objects from pure organic materials to organic-inorganic hybrid materials., (© 2024 The Authors. Implant-related infections may need suppressive antibiotic therapy (SAT). We describe a SAT strategy using dalbavancin with therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). This is a retrospective bicentric study of patients with implant-related infection who received dalbavancin SAT between January 2021 and September 2023. Fifteen patients were included. Median number of injections was 4 (IQR: 2-7). Median time between two reinjections was 57 days (IQR 28-82). Dalbavancin plasma concentrations were above 4 mg/L for 97.9% of dosages (93/95) and above 8 mg/L for 85% (81/95). Rationale: Changes in the density and diversity of gut microbiota in chronic use of methamphetamine have been mentioned as contributors to psychotic and anxiety symptoms, sleep problems, and loss of appetite., Objective: In this placebo-controlled clinical trial, we investigated the effect of the probiotic Lactobacillus Acidophilus in improving psychiatric symptoms among hospitalized patients with chronic methamphetamine use along with psychotic symptoms., Methods: 60 inpatients with a history of more than 3 years of methamphetamine use, were randomly assigned to one of two groups receiving either a probiotic capsule or placebo along with risperidone for 8 weeks based on a simple randomization method. In weeks 0, 4, and 8, patients were evaluated using the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Simple Appetite Nutritional Questionnaire (SANQ), and Body Mass Index (BMI)., Results: Compared to the control group, patients receiving probiotics had better sleep quality, greater appetite, and higher body mass index (there were significant interaction effects of group and time at Week 8 in these variables (t = -3.32, B = -1.83, p = .001, d = 0.89), (t = 10.50, B = 2.65, p <.001, d = 1.25) and (t = 3.40, B = 0.76, p <.001, d = 0.30), respectively. In terms of the improvement of psychotic and anxiety symptoms, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups., Conclusions: The use of probiotics was associated with improved sleep quality, increased appetite, and increased body mass index in patients with chronic methamphetamine use. Information on patterns of prescription of long-acting injection (LAI) antipsychotics among people who are incarcerated is lacking. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate prescribing rates for first-generation antipsychotic (FGA)-LAI versus second-generation antipsychotic (SGA)-LAI and to identify the factors associated with the prescription of one of the two classes of LAI. A cross-sectional study was conducted among incarcerated adult males hosted in Monza detention center between January 2013 and April 2023. Socio-demographic and clinical data were retrospectively collected. Descriptive and univariate statistics as well as logistic regression analyses were performed. Data were available for 135 consecutive incarcerated adult males with different mental disorders who received a LAI as part of their treatment. 75.6% of our sample was treated with FGA-LAIs, with haloperidol as the most commonly prescribed drug, followed by zuclopentixol and aripiprazole. Diagnosis of bipolar disorder and concomitant administration of antidepressants were statistically significant predictors of SGA-LAI prescription. Some patients' characteristics may influence prescription patterns in prison. Scintillating materials emit light when exposed to ionizing radiation or particles and are used for the detection of nuclear threats, medical imaging, high-energy physics, and other usages. For some of these applications, it is vital to distinguish neutrons and charged particles from γ-rays. This is achievable by pulse shape discrimination (PSD), a time-gated technique, which exploits that the scintillation kinetics can depend on the nature of the incident radiation. However, it proves difficult to realize efficient PSD with plastic scintillators, which have several advantages over liquid or crystalline scintillating materials, including mechanical robustness and shapeability. It is shown here that sensitive and rapid PSD is possible with nanostructured polymer scintillators that consist of a solid polymer matrix and liquid nanodomains in which an organic dye capable of triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) is dissolved. The liquid nature of the nanodomains renders TTA highly efficient so that delayed fluorescence can occur at low energy density. The nanostructured polymer scintillators allow discriminating α particles, neutrons, and γ-rays with a time response that is better than that of commercial scintillators. Exploiting that the liquid nanodomains can facilitate energy transfer processes otherwise difficult to realize in solid polymers, an auxiliary triplet sensitizer is incorporated. Perovskites are attracting an increasing interest in the wide community of photovoltaics, optoelectronic, and detection, traditionally relying on lead-based systems. This Minireview provides an overview of the current status of experimental and computational results available on Ge-containing 3D and low-dimensional halide perovskites. While stability issues analogous to those of tin-based materials are present, some strategies to afford this problem in Ge metal halide perovskites (MHPs) for photovoltaics have already been identified and successfully employed, reaching efficiencies of solar devices greater than 7 % at up to 500 h of illumination. Long-lasting radioluminescence scintillators have recently attracted substantial attention from both research and industrial communities, primarily due to their distinctive capabilities of converting and storing X-ray energy. However, determination of energy-conversion kinetics in these nanocrystals remains unexplored. Here we present a strategy to probe and unveil energy-funneling kinetics in NaLuF 4 :Mn 2+ /Gd 3+ nanocrystal sublattices through Gd 3+ -driven microenvironment engineering and Mn 2+ -mediated radioluminescence profiling. Our photophysical studies reveal effective control of energy-funneling kinetics and demonstrate the tunability of electron trap depth ranging from 0.66 to 0.96 eV, with the corresponding trap density varying between 2.38×10 5 and 1.34×10 7  cm -3 . This enables controlled release of captured electrons over durations spanning from seconds to 30 days. It allows tailorable emission wavelength within the range of 520-580 nm and fine-tuning of thermally-stimulated temperature between 313-403 K. We further utilize these scintillators to fabricate high-density, large-area scintillation screens that exhibit a 6-fold improvement in X-ray sensitivity, 22 lp/mm high-resolution X-ray imaging, and a 30-day-long optical memory. This enables high-contrast imaging of injured mice through fast thermally-stimulated radioluminescence readout. To investigate the biological effects of the ABA receptor pyrabactin resistance 1-like (PYR1-like) in Malus sieversii seeds, the proteins interacting with MsPYR1-like were screened by the membrane yeast two-hybrid library based on the split-ubiquitin system, and to construct the bait vector pBT3-SUC-PYR1 for Malus sieversii cDNA library, which had no self-activating effect on the yeast cells of the pPR3-N membrane yeast two-hybrid library. The library titer assay showed that it could meet the requirements for membrane yeast two-hybrid library screening. After sequencing, GenBank database blast, and yeast rotary validation, 28 candidate proteins interacting with MsPYR1-like were obtained, including ribosomal proteins, late embryogenesis abundant proteins, F-actin-capping proteins, phytochrome-interacting proteins, low-temperature-inducible 65 kDa protein-like, senescence-associated, PP2C and SnRK2 family members, and unknown proteins. Gene ontology analysis of the interaction proteins was related to plant hormone response and negative regulation of seed germination, overexpression of MsPYR1-like in Arabidopsis negatively regulates seed germination, and the study of the biological roles of MsPYR1-like interacting proteins lays the foundation for revealing the lifting of seed dormancy in Malus sieversii., (© 2024. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation to the pharyngeal motor cortex has shown beneficial effects on poststroke dysphagia. Previous studies, however, using intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) for dysphagia have targeted the suprahyoid motor cortex. This study aimed to investigate the effects of iTBS to the pharyngeal motor cortex in patients with poststroke dysphagia, using ultrasound and videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). A randomized controlled trial was conducted on patients with dysphagia due to a first-time unilateral stroke. Patients who had signs and symptoms of dysphagia and showed aspiration or penetration on VFSS were included. Twenty-eight patients were randomly assigned to either real or sham iTBS groups, and each patient underwent five sessions of iTBS to the ipsilesional pharyngeal motor cortex. Each iTBS session was followed by conventional dysphagia treatment for 30 min. The hyoid-larynx approximation measured by ultrasound, penetration-aspiration scale (PAS) and functional dysphagia scale (FDS) assessed by VFSS were evaluated before and after completion of iTBS. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of demographic and clinical characteristics, including age and type of stroke. The hyoid-larynx approximation ratio increased in the real iTBS group and decreased in the sham iTBS group (median values of pre-post differences were 0.27 vs. -0.01, P  < 0.001). The PAS and FDS showed greater improvements in the real iTBS group than in the sham iTBS group (median values of pre-post differences of the PAS were -2.50 vs. 0.00, P  = 0.004; median values of pre-post differences of the FDS were -12.50 vs. -2.50, P  < 0.001). No adverse effects were reported during or after iTBS sessions. Five-session iTBS to the pharyngeal motor cortex combined with conventional treatment led to a significant improvement in poststroke dysphagia in terms of hyoid-larynx approximation which is related to the suprahyoid muscle. The detriments of intrinsic silanol groups in mesoporous silica to the photoluminescence (PL) of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) confined in the template have never been determined and clearly elucidated. Here, we disclose that silanol-induced Cs + and Br - deficiencies prompt the generation of traps and CsPb 2 Br 5 impurities. The temperature-dependent PL spectra verify the higher energetic barrier of trap states in CsPbBr 3 NCs confined in silanol-rich mesoporous silica. Femtosecond transient absorption spectra reveal the trapped state mediates a broadband photoinduced absorption and long-lived decay pathway of CsPbBr 3 NCs in silanol-rich templates. A remarkable improvement (up to 160-fold) in PL quantum yields is realized by simple silanol elimination. This work demonstrates the detrimental effects of silanol sites on the PL properties of LHP NCs impregnated in mesoporous silica and provides a new perspective for the ligand-free synthesis of high-quality LHP NCs in mesoporous templates by facile impregnation for practical applications., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Lanthanide-based lead-free perovskite materials hold great promise for the development of high-resolution full-color displays in the future. Here, various Cs 3 LnCl 6 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) emitting light across the visible to near-infrared spectrum with remarkably high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are systemically prepared. Especially, by introducing multifunctional coumarin small molecules into Cs 3 EuCl 6 NCs as an intermediate state, Cs 3 EuCl 6 NCs can achieve an impressive PLQY of 92.4% with pure red emission and an exceptional energy transfer efficiency of nearly 93.2%. Furthermore, the lanthanide-based electroluminescent devices in red, green, and blue are successfully fabricated. Among them, the Cs 3 EuCl 6 -NC-based red light-emitting diode (LED) demonstrates a FWHM of 18 nm at 617 nm, an external quantum efficiency up to 5.17%, and a maximum brightness of 2373 cd m -2 , which is the most excellent reported for lead-free narrowband (within 20 nm) emission devices. Notably, these devices exhibit an operating half-life of 440 h at a brightness level of 100 cd m -2 , surpassing the performance of most reported lead-free perovskite LEDs (PLEDs). Near-Infrared (NIR) light emitting metal halides are emerging as a new generation of optical materials owing to their appealing features, which include low-cost synthesis, solution processability, and adjustable optical properties. NIR-emitting perovskite-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have reached an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of over 20% and a device stability of over 10,000 h. Such results have sparked an interest in exploring new NIR metal halide emitters. In this review, several different types of NIR-emitting metal halides, including lead/tin bromide/iodide perovskites, lanthanide ions doped/based metal halides, double perovskites, low dimensional hybrid and Bi 3+ /Sb 3+ /Cr 3+ doped metal halides, are summarized, and their recent advancement is assessed. The characteristics and mechanisms of narrow-band or broadband NIR luminescence in all these materials are discussed in detail. Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) poses a significant global health challenge as it can lead to acute or chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To establish a safety experimental model, a homolog of HBV-duck HBV (DHBV) is often used for HBV research. Hydrodynamic-based gene delivery (HGD) is an efficient method to introduce exogenous genes into the liver, making it suitable for basic research. In this study, a duck HGD system was first constructed by injecting the reporter plasmid pLIVE-SEAP via the ankle vein. The highest expression of SEAP occurred when ducks were injected with 5 µg/mL plasmid pLIVE-SEAP in 10% bodyweight volume of physiological saline for 6 s. To verify the distribution and expression of exogenous genes in multiple tissues, the relative level of foreign gene DNA and β-galactosidase staining of LacZ were evaluated, which showed the plasmids and their products were located mainly in the liver. Additionally, β-galactosidase staining and fluorescence imaging indicated the delivered exogenous genes could be expressed in a short time. Further, the application of the duck HGD model on DHBV treatment was investigated by transferring representative anti-HBV genes IFNα and IFNγ into DHBV-infected ducks. Delivery of plasmids expressing IFNα and IFNγ inhibited DHBV infection and we established a novel efficient HGD method in ducks, which could be useful for drug screening of new genes, mRNAs and proteins for anti-HBV treatment., (© 2024. Background: Stricturing Crohn's disease (CD) occurs most commonly in the terminal ileum and poses a clinical problem. Cross-sectional imaging modalities such as intestinal ultrasound (IUS), computed tomography enterography (CTE), and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) allow for assessment of the entire bowel wall and associated peri-enteric findings. Radiologic definitions of strictures have been developed for CTE and MRE; their reliability and responsiveness are being evaluated in index development programs. A comprehensive assessment strategy for strictures using IUS is needed., Aims: To provide a detailed summary of definitions, diagnosis and monitoring of strictures on IUS as well as technical aspects of image acquisition., Methods: We searched four databases up to 6 January 2024. Two-stage screening was done in duplicate. We assessed risk of bias using QUADAS-2., Results: There were 56 studies eligible for inclusion. Definitions for strictures on IUS are heterogeneous, but the overall accuracy for diagnosis of strictures is high. The capability of IUS for characterising inflammation versus fibrosis in strictures is not accurate enough to be used in clinical practice or trials. Metal halide scintillators serve as promising candidates for X-ray detection due to their high attenuation coefficients, high light yields, and low-cost solution-processable characteristics. However, the issues of humidity/thermal quenching and mechanical fragility, remain obstacles to the broad and diversified development of metal halide scintillators. Here, this work reports a lead-free, water-stable, stretchable, and self-healing (ethylenebis-triphenylphosphonium manganese (II) bromide (C 38 H 34 P 2 )MnBr 4 organogel scintillator that meets X-ray imaging in complex scenarios. The robust organogel scintillator can be stretched with elongation up to 1300% while maintaining the scintillation properties. Activated by the dynamic hydrogen bonds and coordination bonds design, the organogel scintillator exhibits excellent self-healing properties at room temperature to alleviate the vignetting problem of the rigid scintillator films, the X-ray imaging resolution can reach 16.7 lp mm -1 . Salinity is a major abiotic stress factor that can significantly impact crop growth, and productivity. In response to salt stress, the plant Salt Overly Sensitive (SOS) signaling pathway regulates the homeostasis of intracellular sodium ion concentration. The SOS1, SOS2, and SOS3 genes play critical roles in the SOS pathway, which belongs to the members of Na + /H + exchanger (NHX), CBL-interacting protein kinase (CIPK), and calcineurin B-like (CBL) gene families, respectively. In this study, we performed genome-wide identifications and phylogenetic analyses of NHX, CIPK, and CBL genes in six Rosaceae species: Prunus persica, Prunus dulcis, Prunus mume, Prunus armeniaca, Pyrus ussuriensis × Pyrus communis, and Rosa chinensis. NHX, CIPK, and CBL genes of Arabidopsis thaliana were used as controls for phylogenetic analyses. Our analysis revealed the lineage-specific and adaptive evolutions of Rosaceae genes. Our observations indicated the existence of two primary classes of CIPK genes: those that are intron-rich and those that are intron-less. Intron-rich CIPKs in Rosaceae and Arabidopsis can be traced back to algae CIPKs and CIPKs found in early plants, suggesting that intron-less CIPKs evolved from their intron-rich counterparts. This study identified one gene for each member of the SOS signaling pathway in P. persica: PpSOS1, PpSOS2, and PpSOS3. Gene expression analyses indicated that all three genes of P. persica were expressed in roots and leaves. Yeast two-hybrid-based protein-protein interaction analyses revealed a direct interaction between PpSOS3 and PpSOS2; and between PpSOS2 and PpSOS1C-terminus region. The ability to detect single photons has led to the advancement of numerous research fields 1-11 . Although various types of single-photon detector have been developed 12 , because of two main factors-that is, (1) the need for operating at cryogenic temperature 13,14 and (2) the incompatibility with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication processes 15,16 -so far, to our knowledge, only Si-based single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) 17,18 has gained mainstream success and has been used in consumer electronics. With the growing demand to shift the operation wavelength from near-infrared to short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) for better safety and performance 19-21 , an alternative solution is required because Si has negligible optical absorption for wavelengths beyond 1 µm. Here we report a CMOS-compatible, high-performing germanium-silicon SPAD operated at room temperature, featuring a noise-equivalent power improvement over the previous Ge-based SPADs 22-28 by 2-3.5 orders of magnitude. Key parameters such as dark count rate, single-photon detection probability at 1,310 nm, timing jitter, after-pulsing characteristic time and after-pulsing probability are, respectively, measured as 19 kHz µm -2 , 12%, 188 ps, ~90 ns and <1%, with a low breakdown voltage of 10.26 V and a small excess bias of 0.75 V. Three-dimensional point-cloud images are captured with direct time-of-flight technique as proof of concept. Metal halide nanocrystals (NCs) with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are desirable for lighting, display, and X-ray detection. Herein, the novel lanthanide-based halide NCs are committed to designing and optimizing the optical and scintillating properties, so as to unravel the PL origin, exciton dynamics, and optoelectronic applications. Sb-doped zero-dimensional (0D) Cs 3 TbCl 6 NCs exhibit a green emission with a narrow full width of half maximum of 8.6 nm, and the best PLQY of 48.1% is about three times higher than that of undoped NCs. Experiments and theoretical calculations indicate that 0D crystalline and electronic structures make the exciton highly localized on [TbCl 6 ] 3- octahedron, which boosts the Cl - -Tb 3+ charge transfer process, thus resulting in bright Tb 3+ emission. More importantly, the introduction of Sb 3+ not only facilitates the photon absorption transition, but also builds an effective thermally boosting energy transfer channel assisted by [SbCl 6 ] 3- -induced self-trapped state, which is responsible for the PL enhancement. The high luminescence efficiency and negligible self-absorption of the Cs 3 TbCl 6 : Sb nanoscintillator enable a more sensitive X-ray detection response compared with undoped sample. This study aimed to explore the relationship between intrusive and deliberate rumination, to identify distinct trajectories of intrusive and deliberate rumination, and to examine their predictors in young and middle-aged stroke survivors. This study employed a longitudinal design in which 200 young and middle-aged stroke survivors were investigated at 1-week pre-discharge (T0), 1 month (T1), 3 months (T2), and 6 months (T3) post-discharge. The Event-Related Rumination Inventory, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and Perceived Social Support Scale were used for data collection. The results showed that intrusive rumination was positively correlated with deliberate rumination at T0 and T1, and negatively correlated with deliberate rumination at T3. Growth mixture modeling identified three classes of intrusive rumination: Stable-low, Declined, and Elevated group, and two classes of deliberate rumination: High-level and Low-level group. Furthermore, number of children or dysfunctions, type of stroke, family history of stroke, negative coping, and social support were found to predict intrusive rumination. These findings can help healthcare providers timely intervene on survivors in the Elevated and Stable-low intrusive rumination groups, and the Low-level deliberate rumination group., (© 2023 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.)

Compared to solid scintillators and organic liquid scintillators, aqueous-based liquid scintillators (AbLS) have more superiority in highly flexible scalability, yet are now limited by their low light yield (≈100 photons MeV -1 ). Here, aqueous-based inorganic colloidal halide perovskites with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of three primary color luminescence up to 88.1% (red), 96% (green), and 81.8% (blue) are respectively synthesized, and a new generation of colloidal perovskite-mediated AbLS (PAbLS) with light yield increased in comparison with the commercial scintillator AbLS is fabricated. This paper exhibits that the excellent PLQY and colloidal dispersion of halide perovskites benefit from poly(ethylene glycol) modification and this modification ensures the vacancy inhibition and formation of defect-free surfaces in an aqueous solution. Moreover, their high luminescent emission can be maintained for 100 days at low temperatures, and such modification also promises the heat-to-cold customization of operating temperature even in ice below 0 °C. Finally, depending on the light yield of around 3058 and 8037 photons MeV -1 at room temperature and low temperature, PAbLS with shape/size scalability exhibit their robust radiation hardness (dose rate as high as 23 mGy s -1 ) and conceptual application potential in high-energy ray radiation detection from every angle of 360°., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Objective: To compare the effects of total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) and inhalation anesthesia (IA) used in lumbar disc herniectomy on postoperative cognitive recovery based on the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) levels., Material and Methods: The study sample consisted of 80 patients aged 18-65 years who were scheduled for elective lumbar disc herniectomy. The patients were divided into two groups according to the anesthesia technique applied, such as TIVA or IA. The patients in the TIVA group were administered remifentanil and propofol and those in the IA group were administered sevoflurane for maintenance. The MMSE was applied to the patients before the operation and 1h and 24 h postoperatively. Venous blood samples were obtained for the measurement of NSE before the operation and on the 24 h postoperatively., Results: The mean preoperative MMSE scores were similar in the two groups. In the TIVA group, the preoperative and postoperative MMSE scores at 1 h were similar but were higher at 24 h postoperatively compared to the previous two scores (p = 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). In the IA group, the preoperative and postoperative 24 h MMSE scores were similar but lower at 1h postoperatively than the other two scores (p = 0.006 and p < 0.001, respectively). In the TIVA group, there was a significant decrease in the postoperative serum NSE levels than the preoperative values (p = 0.038)., Conclusion: The use of IA may result in higher cognitive dysfunction 1h after the operation compared to TIVA. The effects of both methods on cognitive functions were similar at 24 h postoperatively., (© 2022. Transition metal-doped two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) with atomically precise thickness have attracted much research interest due to their inherent photo-physical properties. In this work, we have synthesized 2D Cu-doped CdS NPLs, investigated the charge transfer dynamics using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, and fabricated an efficient photodetector device. A large Stoke's shifted emission at ~685 nm with an average lifetime of about ~1.45 μs is observed in Cu-doped CdS NPLs. Slower bleach recovery kinetics leads to large charge carrier separation in Cu-doped NPLs which is beneficial for photodetector applications. Cu-doped NPLs-based photodetectors exhibit high photocurrent, fast response (~120 ms), ~600 times higher photoresponsivity, and ~300 times higher detectivity (~4.1×10 13 Jones) than undoped CdS NPLs. The domestication process in long-lived plant perennials differs dramatically from that of annuals, with a huge amount of genetic exchange between crop and wild populations. Though apple is a major fruit crop grown worldwide, the contribution of wild apple species to the genetic makeup of the cultivated apple genome remains a topic of intense study. We used population genomics approaches to investigate the contributions of several wild apple species to European and Chinese rootstock and dessert genomes, with a focus on the extent of wild-crop gene flow. Population genetic structure inferences revealed that the East Asian wild apples, Malus baccata (L.) Borkh and M. hupehensis (Pamp.), form a single panmictic group, and that the European dessert and rootstock apples form a specific gene pool whereas the Chinese dessert and rootstock apples were a mixture of three wild gene pools, suggesting different evolutionary histories of European and Chinese apple varieties. Coalescent-based inferences and gene flow estimates indicated that M. baccata - M. hupehensis contributed to the genome of both European and Chinese cultivated apples through wild-to-crop introgressions, and not as an initial contributor as previously supposed. We also confirmed the contribution through wild-to-crop introgressions of Malus sylvestris Mill. to the cultivated apple genome. Apple tree domestication is therefore one example in woody perennials that involved gene flow from several wild species from multiple geographical areas. Trihelix transcription factors are involved in the growth and development of plants, as well as various stress responses. In the study presented, we identified 37 trihelix family genes in the apple genome (MdTH). The trihelix genes were located on 13 chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis of these MdTH and the trihelix genes of other species divided them into six subfamilies: GT-1, GT-2, SH4, SIP1, GTγ, and GTδ. The genes of different groups significantly diverged in their gene structure and conserved functional domains. Cis-element analysis showed that promoter sequences of MdTH genes contained light response elements, phytohormone response elements, and stress-related cis-elements. The expression pattern analysis results demonstrated that MdTH were regulated by drought, salinity, as well as high and low temperatures. MdTH4 and MdTH24 were highly regulated by soil salinity, MdTH4-by drought. MdTH30 showed high expression under low temperature; MdTH8, MdTH20, and MdTH36-under high temperature., (© 2023. The perovskite compound CsPbBr 3 has recently been discovered as a promising room-temperature semiconductor radiation detector, offering an inexpensive and easy-to-manufacture alternative to the current benchmark material Cd 1-x Zn x Te (CZT). The performance of CsPbBr 3 sensors is evaluated under harsh conditions, such as high radiation doses often found in industrial settings and extreme radiation in space. Results show minimal degradation in detector performance after exposure to 1 Mrad of Co-60 gamma radiation, with no significant change to energy resolution or hole mobility and lifetime. Additionally, many of the devices are still functional after being exposed to a 10 Mrad dose over 3 days, and those that do not survive can still be refabricated into working detectors. These results suggest that the failure mode in these devices is likely related to the interface between the electrode and material and their reaction, or the electrode itself and not the material itself. Overall, the study suggests that CsPbBr 3 has high potential as a reliable and efficient radiation detector in various applications, including those involving extreme fluxes and energies of gamma-ray radiation., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a major complication of diabetes mellitus with a high incidence. Oxidative stress, which is a crucial pathophysiological pathway of DPN, has attracted much attention. The distortion in the redox balance due to the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the deregulation of antioxidant defense systems promotes oxidative damage in DPN. Therefore, we have focused on the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of DPN and elucidated its interaction with other physiological pathways, such as the glycolytic pathway, polyol pathway, advanced glycosylation end products, protein kinase C pathway, inflammation, and non-coding RNAs. These interactions provide novel therapeutic options targeting oxidative stress for DPN. Furthermore, our review addresses the latest therapeutic strategies targeting oxidative stress for the rehabilitation of DPN. Antioxidant supplements and exercise have been proposed as fundamental therapeutic strategies for diabetic patients through ROS-mediated mechanisms. In addition, several novel drug delivery systems can improve the bioavailability of antioxidants and the efficacy of DPN., (© 2023.
