Objectives: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by relapsing and remitting episodes. Although AD is well-known for its association with other allergic conditions, its relationship with Meniere's disease has not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to explore the potential correlation between AD and Meniere's disease., Methods: This study utilized data from the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort, a nationwide population-based database. The AD group was selected from a cohort of 1 million individuals randomly extracted from database. A non-AD group was obtained through Propensity Score Matching., Results: The AD group comprised 84,579 individuals, with an equal number of individuals in the non-AD (control) group. The overall hazard ratio (HR) for Meniere's disease in the AD group was 1.44 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.31-1.6). Subgroup analysis showed an adjusted HR of 0.42 (95% CI: 0.38-0.48) for Meniere's disease in males, 4.99 (95% CI: 4.45-5.62) in the middle-aged group (40-59 years), and 8.21 (95% CI: 7.21-9.35) in the older age group (≥60 years). Additionally, the adjusted HRs for developing Meniere's disease were higher in patients with comorbidities, including allergic rhinitis (1.18 [95% CI, 1.07-1.32]), allergic contact dermatitis (1.32 [95% CI, 1.19-1.48]), and allergic conjunctivitis (1.54 [95% CI, 1.32-1.82])., Conclusion: Long-term follow-up revealed that the prevalence of Meniere's disease was 1.44 times higher in the AD group compared to the control group. The microfluidic impedance flow cytometer (m-IFC) using constricted microchannels is an appealing choice for the high-throughput measurement of single-cell mechanical properties. However, channels smaller than the cells are susceptible to irreversible blockage, extremely affecting the stability of the system and the throughput. Meanwhile, the common practice of extracting a single quantitative index, i.e., total cell passage time, through the constricted part is inadequate to decipher the complex mechanical properties of individual cells. Herein, this study presents a long-term stable and multifeature m-IFC based on a constricted channel for single-cell mechanical phenotyping. The blockage problem is effectively overcome by adding tiny xanthan gum (XG) polymers. The cells can pass through the constricted channel at a flow rate of 500 μL/h without clogging, exhibiting high throughput (∼240 samples per second) and long-term stability (∼2 h). Moreover, six detection regions were implemented to capture the multiple features related to the whole process of a single cell passing through the long-constricted channel, e.g., creep, friction, and relaxation stages. To verify the performance of the multifeature m-IFC, cells treated with perturbations of microtubules and microfilaments within the cytoskeleton were detected, respectively. It suggests that the extracted features provide more comprehensive clues for single-cell analysis in structural and mechanical transformation. Overall, our proposed multifeature m-IFC exhibits the advantages of nonclogging and high throughput, which can be extended to other cell types for nondestructive and real-time mechanical phenotyping in cost-effective applications.

The objective of this study is to comprehensively characterize persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in seawater at Kaohsiung Harbor, focusing on their concentrations, partitioning behaviors, and profiles in both particle and liquid phases. We analyzed 100 L seawater for each sample, finding total dioxin-like toxicity (PCDD/Fs + PCBs + PBDD/Fs) ranging from 0.00936 to 0.167 pg WHO-TEQ/L, with PCDD/Fs accounting for 68 % of total toxicity. POPs predominantly appeared in the particle phase, observed in over 80 % of samples, except for PCBs. The observed correlations between particulate matter (PM) and chlorinated POPs at sites receiving river effluents suggest shared pollution sources. The liquid partition of PCDD/Fs, PCBs, and PBDEs in the seawater shows an inverse relationship with log Kow and a direct proportionality with solubility, particularly above 0.1 μg/L. Furthermore, PBDEs in seawater can transform into PBDD/Fs upon UV light exposure, highlighting another potential pathway for the persistence and spread of these harmful contaminants in the environment. Ecological disturbance can promote or reduce community biodiversity depending on its severity. Beekeeping activities represent a type of ecological disturbance when large numbers of honey bees are introduced to a landscape and interact with the local plant and pollinator community. In this study, we characterized the effect of immediate and long-term low-density migratory beekeeping on the diversity and abundance of native bees in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (China). We found that the presence of apiaries and the number of honey bees reduced native bee abundances in the local bee community, likely through displacement from floral resources. However, in locations where apiaries were previously kept for decades but are not currently present, native bee abundances recovered, and phylogenetic diversity increased; yet community relative abundances and dominant species were distinct from those that had never been stocked. Our results suggest that the presence of a transient, intermediate number of migratory honey bee colonies (60-100 colonies spaced ≥15 km from each other) may represent an intermediate ecological disturbance and not permanently reduce native bee abundances past a critical threshold that may lead to local extirpation. The pervasive issue of microplastics in aquatic environments presents a formidable challenge to traditional water treatment methodologies, including those utilizing KMnO 4 . This study pioneers advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) method aimed at improving the degradation of PE microplastics by employing a dual treatment strategy that combines KMnO 4 oxidation with UV irradiation. Detailed analysis of the surface modifications and chemical functional groups of the treated PE microplastics revealed the establishment of Mn-O-Mn linkages on their surfaces. Weight reductions of 3.9%, 4.9%, and 7.5% were observed for the KMnO 4 /UVA, KMnO 4 /UVB, and KMnO 4 /UVC treatments over seven days, respectively. The emergence of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups played a crucial role in accelerating the degradation process. Notably, the combined application of UVC rays and KMnO 4 resulted in the most effective degradation of PE microplastics observed in our study. The process significantly enhanced the formation of MnO 2 particles from KMnO 4 oxidation, with concentrations ranging from 0.036 to 0.070 mM for KMnO 4 /UVA, 0.066-0.097 mM for KMnO 4 /UVB, and 0.086-0.180 mM for KMnO 4 /UVC. Furthermore, the influence of varying pH levels, KMnO 4 concentrations, and different water sources on the degradation efficacy was investigated. The pivotal role of free radicals and reactive manganese species in promoting the degradation of PE microplastics was identified. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is characterized by hypermnesia of the trauma and a persistent fear response. The molecular mechanisms underlying the retention of traumatic memories remain largely unknown, which hinders the development of more effective treatments. Utilizing auditory fear conditioning, we demonstrate that a redox-dependent dynamic pathway for dendritic spine morphogenesis in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) is crucial for traumatic memory retention. Exposure to a fear-induced event markedly increased the reduction of oxidized filamentous actin (F-actin) and decreased the expression of the molecule interacting with CasL 1 (MICAL1), a methionine-oxidizing enzyme that directly oxidizes and depolymerizes F-actin, leading to cytoskeletal dynamic abnormalities in the BLA, which impairs dendritic spine morphogenesis and contributes to the persistence of fearful memories. Following fear conditioning, overexpression of MICAL1 in the BLA inhibited freezing behavior during fear memory retrieval via reactivating cytokinesis, whereas overexpression of methionine sulfoxide reductase B 1, a key enzyme that reduces oxidized F-actin monomer, increased freezing behavior during retrieval. Notably, intra-BLA injection of semaphorin 3A, an endogenous activator of MICAL1, rapidly disrupted fear memory within a short time window after conditioning. Ecosystem functioning depends on biodiversity at multiple trophic levels, yet relationships between multitrophic diversity and ecosystem multifunctionality have been poorly explored, with studies often focusing on individual trophic levels and functions and on specific ecosystem types. Here, we show that plant diversity can affect ecosystem functioning both directly and by affecting other trophic levels. Using data on 13 trophic groups and 13 ecosystem functions from two large biodiversity experiments-one representing temperate grasslands and the other subtropical forests-we found that plant diversity increases multifunctionality through elevated multitrophic diversity. Across both experiments, the association between multitrophic diversity and multifunctionality was stronger than the relationship between the diversity of individual trophic groups and multifunctionality. Our results also suggest that the role of multitrophic diversity is greater in forests than in grasslands. These findings imply that, to promote sustained ecosystem multifunctionality, conservation planning must consider the diversity of both plants and higher trophic levels., (© 2024. Graph neural networks (GNNs) leveraging metapaths have garnered extensive utilization. Nevertheless, the escalating parameters and data corpus within graph pre-training models incur mounting training costs. Consequently, GNN models encounter hurdles including diminished generalization capacity and compromised performance amidst small sample datasets. Drawing inspiration from the efficacy demonstrated by self-supervised learning methodologies in natural language processing, we embark on an exploration. We endeavor to imbue graph data with augmentable, learnable prompt vectors targeting node representation enhancement to foster superior adaptability to downstream tasks. This paper proposes a novel approach, the Metapath Integrated Graph Prompt Neural Network (MIGP), which leverages learnable prompt vectors to enhance node representations within a pretrained model framework. By leveraging learnable prompt vectors, MIGP aims to address the limitations posed by mall sample datasets and improve GNNs' model generalization. In the pretraining stage, we split symmetric metapaths in heterogeneous graphs into short metapaths and explicitly propagate information along the metapaths to update node representations. In the prompt-tuning stage, the parameters of the pretrained model are fixed, a set of independent basis vectors is introduced, and an attention mechanism is employed to generate task-specific learnable prompt vectors for each node. Another notable contribution of our work is the introduction of three patent datasets, which is a pioneering application in related fields. We will make these three patent datasets publicly available to facilitate further research on large-scale patent data analysis. Through comprehensive experiments conducted on three patent datasets and three other public datasets, i.e., ACM, IMDB, and DBLP, we demonstrate the superior performance of the MIGP model in enhancing model applicability and performance across a variety of downstream datasets. Recently considerable advances have been achieved in the incomplete multi-view clustering (IMC) research. However, the current IMC works are often faced with three challenging issues. First, they mostly lack the ability to recover the nonlinear subspace structures in the multiple kernel spaces. Second, they usually neglect the high-order relationship in multiple representations. Third, they often have two or even more hyper-parameters and may not be practical for some real-world applications. To tackle these issues, we present a Tensorized Incomplete Multi-view Kernel Subspace Clustering (TIMKSC) approach. Specifically, by incorporating the kernel learning technique into an incomplete subspace clustering framework, our approach can robustly explore the latent subspace structure hidden in multiple views. Furthermore, we impute the incomplete kernel matrices and learn the low-rank tensor representations in a mutual enhancement manner. Notably, our approach can discover the underlying relationship among the observed and missing samples while capturing the high-order correlation to assist subspace clustering. To solve the proposed optimization model, we design a three-step algorithm to efficiently minimize the unified objective function, which only involves one hyper-parameter that requires tuning. Experiments on various benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of our approach. Rising concerns about global environmental degradation underscore the pressing need for effective solutions to combat heavy metal pollution. Industries such as semiconductor and steel production discharge vanadium into marine ecosystems, posing significant risks to both marine life and human health. The current study investigates efficacy of utilizing marine thraustochytrid for efficient vanadium removal outcompeting other microbial sources. By optimizing pH and temperature conditions during harvesting, achieved a remarkable 50.80 % enhancement in vanadium removal efficiency, from 19.31 to 29.12 mg/L. Furthermore, chelating agents EDTA and citric acid supplementation demonstrated promising enhancements, reaching up to 31.21 and 32.59 mg/L, respectively. Notably, vanadium-treated biomass supplemented with citric acid exhibited maximum enhancement in lipid content, from 58.47 to 75.34 %, indicating thraustochytrid's potential for biofuel production. Background: Insular low-grade gliomas (LGGs) are surgically challenging due to their proximity to critical structures like the corticospinal tract (CST)., Purpose: This study aims to determine if preoperative CST shape metrics correlate with postoperative motor complications in insular LGG patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: 42 patients (mean age 40.26 ± 10.21 years, 25 male) with insular LGGs., Field Strength/sequence: Imaging was performed using 3.0 Tesla MRI, incorporating T1-weighted magnetization-prepared rapid gradient-echo, T2-weighted space dark-fluid with spin echo (SE), and diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) with gradient echo sequences, all integrated with echo planar imaging., Assessment: Shape metrics of the CST, including span, irregularity, radius, and irregularity of end regions (RER and IER, respectively), were compared between the affected and healthy hemispheres. Total end region radius (TRER) was determined as the sum of RER 1 and RER 2. The relationships between shape metrics and postoperative short-term (4 weeks) and long-term (>8 weeks) motor disturbances assessing by British Medical Research Council grading system, was analyzed using multivariable regression models., Statistical Testing: Paired t-tests compared CST metrics between hemispheres. Logistic regression identified associations between these metrics and motor disturbances. The models were developed using all available data and there was no independent validation dataset. Significance was set at P < 0.05., Results: Short-term motor disturbance risk was significantly related to TRER (OR = 199.57). Long-term risk significantly correlated with IER 1 (OR = 59.84), confirmed as a significant marker with an AUC of 0.78. Recent developments in multiagent consensus problems have heightened the role of network topology when the agent number increases largely. The existing works assume that the convergence evolution typically proceeds over a peer-to-peer architecture where agents are treated equally and communicate directly with perceived one-hop neighbors, thus resulting in slower convergence speed. In this article, we first extract the backbone network topology to provide a hierarchical organization over the original multiagent system (MAS). Second, we introduce a geometric convergence method based on the constraint set (CS) under periodically extracted switching-backbone topologies. Finally, we derive a fully decentralized framework named hierarchical switching-backbone MAS (HSBMAS) that is designed to conduct agents converge to a common stable equilibrium. Provable connectivity and convergence guarantees of the framework are provided when the initial topology is connected. Extensive simulation results on different-type and varying-density topologies have shown the superiority of the proposed framework.

Vanadium (V) is a hazardous element with widespread environmental presence, particularly in marine environments, due to both natural and industrial sources. This review examines vanadium's impact on marine organisms, highlighting its disruption of metabolic processes in fish, microalgae, and crustaceans, leading to oxidative stress, impaired growth and reproduction. Vanadium accumulation in marine food chains poses risks to higher organisms, including humans. Conventional vanadium removal methods, e.g., filtering and reverse osmosis, are costly and energy-intensive. Alternatively, bioremediation offers a sustainable solution, particularly using microalgae and thraustochytrids. Microalgae can detoxify and immobilize vanadium through adsorption and biodegradation, contributing to carbon capture and producing value-added products. Molecular ferroelectrics have increasingly garnered significant attention in both fundamental scientific research and technological applications due to their ease of processing, lightweight nature, and mechanical flexibility. Among these, metal halide perovskite ferroelectrics (MHP FEs), a subset of molecule-based ferroelectrics, exhibit diverse functionalities owing to their distinctive structures, thus emerging as a focal point of molecular ferroelectrics research. However, thin films, the predominant application form for MHP FEs, primarily rely on spin-coating, which presents considerable limitations. The development of melt-processable MHP FEs has been sparse, largely due to the challenge of integrating ferroelectricity with meltability. In this context, we propose a rational strategy for the successful synthesis of a melt-processable MHP FE, (MBPA) 2 PbBr 4 (MBPA = N -methyl bromopropylammonium), featuring a notably low congruent melting temperature and excellent molten stability. The reversibility of solid and liquid states was demonstrated by X-ray diffraction and Raman and IR spectrum. Scanning electron microscopy examinations show a better quality of the melt-processed thin films compared to spin-coated ones. This study marks the successful implementation of integrating ferroelectricity and melt-processability into melt-processable MHP FEs, paving the way for a novel approach in processing MHP FEs and facilitating their future applications.

Background: According to current statistics, renal cancer accounts for 3% of all cancers worldwide. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common solid lesion in the kidney and accounts for approximately 90% of all renal malignancies. Increasing evidence has shown an association between immune infiltration in RCC and clinical outcomes. To discover possible targets for the immune system, we investigated the link between tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) and the prognosis of RCC., Aim: To investigate the effects of 22 TIICs on the prognosis of RCC patients and identify potential therapeutic targets for RCC immunotherapy., Methods: The CIBERSORT algorithm partitioned the 22 TIICs from the Cancer Genome Atlas cohort into proportions. Cox regression analysis was employed to evaluate the impact of 22 TIICs on the probability of developing RCC. A predictive model for immunological risk was developed by analyzing the statistical relationship between the subpopulations of TIICs and survival outcomes. Furthermore, multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to investigate independent factors for the prognostic prediction of RCC. A value of P < 0.05 was regarded as statistically significant., Results: Compared to normal tissues, RCC tissues exhibited a distinct infiltration of immune cells. An immune risk score model was established and univariate Cox regression analysis revealed a significant association between four immune cell types and the survival risk connected to RCC. High-risk individuals were correlated to poorer outcomes according to the Kaplan-Meier survival curve ( P = 1 E-05 ). The immunological risk score model was demonstrated to be a dependable predictor of survival risk (area under the curve = 0.747) via the receiver operating characteristic curve. The complete mitochondrial genome of the Parotis chlorochroalis was sequenced, revaeling a length of 15239 bp with 37 genes and an A + T-rich region. All c13 PCGs begin with typical ATN codons, except COI gene, which starts with CGA. Eleven genes terminate with TAA, two with T-. All 22 tRNA genes exhibit typical cloverleaf structure except for trnS1 P. chlorochroalis has two relatively conserved intergenic regions and two relatively conserved overlapping regions. Phylogenetic analysis support P. chlorochroalis belongs to subfamily Spilomelinae, the topologies of Crambidae are highly congruent with previous studies. Context: Phosphodiester bonds, which form the backbone of DNA, are highly stable in the absence of catalysts. This stability is crucial for maintaining the integrity of genetic information. However, when exposed to catalytic agents, these bonds become susceptible to cleavage. In this study, we investigated the role of different metal dications (Ca 2 ⁺, Mg 2 ⁺, Zn 2 ⁺, Mn 2 ⁺, and Cu 2 ⁺) in promoting the hydrolysis of phosphodiester bonds. A minimal DNA model was constructed using two pyrimidine nucleobases (cytosine and thymine), two deoxyribose units, one phosphate group, and one metallic dication coordinated by six water molecules. The results highlight that Cu 2 ⁺ is the most efficient in lowering the energy barrier for bond cleavage, with an energy barrier of 183 kJ/mol, compared to higher barriers for metals like Zn 2 ⁺ (202 kJ/mol), Mn 2 ⁺ (202 kJ/mol), Mg 2 ⁺ (210 kJ/mol), and Ca 2 ⁺ (223 kJ/mol). Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) in children under 18 years old before and during the COVID-19 pandemic using nationwide population-based cohort analysis., Methods: This study utilized the database provided by the Korea Disease Control and prevention Agency (KDCA) and the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). We used claims-based data for patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) between October 8, 2020, and December 31, 2021, and those without a diagnosis of COVID-19. DES cases were defined as having at least one diagnosis of H0411 or H1621 based on the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes. The primary outcome was the evaluation of the hazard ratio (HR) for DES between the COVID-19 season and the non-COVID-19 season., Results: A total of 198,486 individuals from the COVID-19 season cohort and 211,828 individuals from the non-COVID-19 season cohort were included in the study. There were no differences in characteristics between the COVID-19 season cohort and the non-COVID-19 season cohort (all SMDs < 0.1). The cumulative incidence of DES during the COVID-19 season was significantly higher than that during the non-COVID-19 season. The COVID-19 season DES incidence rate was 6419.64 per 100,000 person-years (P-Y) and non-COVID-19 season DES incidence rate was 5804.88. In addition, 13-18-year-olds, females, those in Metropolitan areas, and diabetes mellitus had a higher risk of DES., Conclusion: The prevalence of diagnosed DES in children increased during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to previous years. Children aged 13-18, females, and those living in metropolitan areas had a higher risk of DES. Further studies are needed to directly analyze the potential factors associated with the increased prevalence of DES.

Due to the development of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging processing technology, image-based identification of endolymphatic hydrops (EH) has played an important role in understanding inner ear illnesses, such as Meniere's disease or fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss. We segmented the inner ear, consisting of the cochlea, vestibule, and semicircular canals, using a 3D-based deep neural network model for accurate and automated EH volume ratio calculations. We built a dataset of MR cisternography (MRC) and HYDROPS-Mi2 stacks labeled with the segmentation of the perilymph fluid space and endolymph fluid space of the inner ear to devise a 3D segmentation deep neural network model. End-to-end learning was used to segment the perilymph fluid and the endolymph fluid spaces simultaneously using aligned pair data of the MRC and HYDROPS-Mi2 stacks. Consequently, the segmentation performance of the total fluid space and endolymph fluid space had Dice similarity coefficients of 0.9574 and 0.9186, respectively. In addition, the EH volume ratio calculated by experienced otologists and the EH volume ratio value predicted by the proposed deep learning model showed high agreement according to the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman plot analysis., (© 2024. Tinnitus is a condition where sound is perceived in the ear or head when no external sound stimulation is present. To date, no study has explored the correlation between nasal septal deviation (SD) and tinnitus using large-scale real-world data. This study hypothesized a potential relationship between tinnitus and SD, which we investigated using a 9-year large-scale cohort study. Nationwide cohort observational study. The SD group was selected from 1 million individuals randomly extracted from the National Health Insurance Service database. The non-SD group was obtained through propensity score matching considering several variables. The primary endpoint was tinnitus diagnosis. The study (SD) group included 10,790 individuals, and the non-SD group (control group) included 21,580 individuals. The overall hazard ratio (HR) for tinnitus in the SD group was 1.74 (95% CI: 1.62-1.89). In the subgroup analysis, the HR was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.68-0.79) for tinnitus in the male group, 1.12 (95% CI: 1.04-1.21) in the group with high economic status, 0.81 (95% CI: 0.75-0.89) in the group living in metropolitan areas, and 0.45 (95% CI: 0.42-0.49) in the younger age group (<50 years). In the SD group, the HR for tinnitus after septoplasty significantly decreased to 0.75 (95% CI: 0.63-0.90). From long-term follow-up, the prevalence of tinnitus was 1.74 times higher in the SD group compared with the control group. Purpose: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is characterized by persistent inflammation of the mucous membrane of the middle ear and mastoid. One of the primary causative agents of CSOM is P. aeruginosa, known for its production of virulent toxins and enzymes. Some cases of CSOM, improvement may not occur despite treatment lasting three weeks, leading to what is termed refractory CSOM. This research aims to characterize the P. aeruginosa strains isolated from patients with refractory CSOM in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, providing insights into their pathogenic profiles., Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of P. aeruginosa isolates from the otorrhea of patients diagnosed with CSOM at a tertiary hospital in Gyeongsangnam-do, over a period from January 2005 to August 2022. The strains were examined using multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and toxin gene assay to assess genetic diversity and virulence., Results: 39 samples were obtained from 13 cases of refractory CSOM and 15 cases of non-refractory CSOM. The findings unveiled that the P. aeruginosa cultured from patients with refractory CSOM belonged to the P. aeruginosa sequence type 235 (ST235) strain, which harbors the exoU gene as a major virulence factor., Conclusion: The detection of ST235 in refractory CSOM signifies a challenging clinical scenario. Given the genotype's strong virulence and antibiotic resistance, identifying ST235 through MLST can guide effective management approaches, including potential surgical intervention. Three-dimensional (3D) halide perovskites have attracted considerable research interest, yet the selection of A-site cations is restricted by the Goldschmidt tolerance factor. To accommodate cations beyond this acceptable range, novel 3D perovskite analog structures with edge- and face-sharing motifs have been developed. Until now, these structures have been limited to divalent cations due to significant electrostatic repulsion when incorporating two monovalent cations. Herein, we employ a supramolecular synthon mechanism to address the issue and an effective hydrogen-bonding pattern is achieved in a novel 3D lead iodide hybrid perovskite, (ammonium)(morpholinium)Pb 2 I 6 (1). The inorganic framework of 1 consists of two edge-shared [PbI 6 ] octahedra connected via corner-sharing, thus forming a continuous 3D network. Structural analysis indicates that the spatial separation of N atoms and the existence of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds effectively eliminate electrostatic repulsion. Clinical staging of liver cancer (CSoLC), an important indicator for evaluating the degree of deterioration of primary liver cancer cells (PLCCs), is key in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of liver cancer. In China, the current CSoLC adopts the China liver cancer (CNLC) staging, which is usually evaluated by clinicians based on the patient's radiology reports. Therefore, inferring clinical information from unstructured radiology reports can provide auxiliary decision support for clinicians. The key to solving the challenging task is to guide the model to pay attention to the staging-related words or sentences, and the following issues may occur: 1) Imbalanced categories: The symptoms of liver cancer in the early- or mid-stage are not obvious, resulting in more data in the end-stage. 2) Domain sensitivity of liver cancer data: The liver cancer dataset contains a large amount of domain knowledge, and the conventional methods can exacerbate out-of-vocabulary, which greatly affects the accuracy of classification. 3) Free-text and lengthy report: The radiology report of liver cancer sparsely describes various lesions with domain-specific terms, which poses difficulties in mining key information related to staging. To tackle these challenges, this article proposes a large language model (LLM)-based Knowledge-aware Attention Network (LKAN) for CSoLC. First, for maintaining semantic consistency, LLM and a rule-based algorithm are integrated to generate more diverse and reasonable data. Second, unlabeled radiology corpus of liver cancer are pre-trained to introduce domain knowledge for subsequent representation learning. Third, attention is improved by incorporating both global and local features, which can provide professional guidance for the classifier to focus on the important information. Compared with the baseline models, the classification accuracy of LKAN has achieved the best results with 90.3% Accuracy, 90.0% Macro&#95;F1 score, and 90.0% Macro&#95;Recall. The global focus on wastewater treatment has intensified in the contemporary era due to its significant environmental and human health impacts. Pharmaceutical compounds (PCs) have become an emerging concern among various pollutants, as they resist conventional treatment methods and pose a severe environmental threat. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) emerge as a potent and environmentally benign approach for treating recalcitrant pharmaceuticals. To address the shortcomings of traditional treatment methods, a technology known as the electro-Fenton (EF) method has been developed more recently as an electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP) that connects electrochemistry to the chemical Fenton process. It has shown effective in treating a variety of pharmaceutically active compounds and actual wastewaters. By producing H 2 O 2 in situ through a two-electron reduction of dissolved O 2 on an appropriate cathode, the EF process maximizes the benefits of electrochemistry. Herein, we have critically reviewed the application of the EF process, encompassing diverse reactor types and configurations, the underlying mechanisms involved in the degradation of pharmaceuticals and other emerging contaminants (ECs), and the impact of electrode materials on the process. The review also addresses the factors influencing the efficiency of the EF process, such as (i) pH, (ii) current density, (iii) H 2 O 2 concentration, (iv) and others, while providing insight into the scalability potential of EF technology and its commercialization on a global scale. Purpose: Establishing an immunosuppressive premetastatic niche (PMN) in distant organs is crucial for breast cancer metastasis. Vascular endothelial cells (VECs) act as barriers to transendothelial cell migration. However, the immune functions of PMNs remain unclear. Tumour cell-released autophagosomes (TRAPs) are critical modulators of antitumour immune responses. Herein, we investigated the mechanism through which TRAPs modulate the immune function of pulmonary VECs in lung PMN in breast cancer., Methods: Immortalised mouse pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells were incubated with TRAPs in vitro. RNA sequencing, flow cytometry, and western blotting were employed to assess immunosuppressive function and mechanism. In vivo, TRAP-trained and autophagy-deficient tumour mice were used to detect immunosuppression, and high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1)-deficient TRAP-trained and TLR4 knockout mice were utilised to investigate the underlying mechanisms of pulmonary VECs. Additionally, the efficacy of anti-programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) immunotherapy was evaluated in early tumour-bearing mice., Results: HMGB1 on TRAPs surfaces stimulated VECs to upregulate PD-L1 via a TLR4-MyD88-p38/STAT3 signalling cascade that depended on the cytoskeletal movement of VECs. Importantly, PD-L1 on TRAP-induced VECs can inhibit T cell function, promote lung PMN immunosuppression, and result in more pronounced lung metastasis. Treatment with anti-PD-L1 reduces lung metastasis in early stage tumour-bearing mice., Conclusions: These findings revealed a novel role and mechanism of TRAP-induced immunosuppression of pulmonary VECs in lung PMN. The aquaculture industry is under the framework of the food-water-energy nexus due to the extensive use of water and energy. Sustainable practices are required to support the tremendous growth of this sector. Currently, the aquaculture industry is challenged by its reliance on capture fisheries for feed, increased use of pharmaceuticals, infectious outbreaks, and solid/liquid waste management. This review posits microalgal technology as a comprehensive solution for the current predicaments in aquaculture in a sustainable way. Microalgae are microscopic, freshwater and marine photosynthetic organisms, capable of carbon mitigation and bioremediation. They are indispensable in aquaculture due to their key role in marine productivity and their position in the marine food chain. Microalgae are nutritious and are currently used as feed in specific sectors of aquaculture. Due to their bioremediation potential, direct application of microalgae in shellfish ponds and in recirculating systems have been adopted to improve water quality and aquatic animal health. The potential of microalgae for integration into various aspects of aquaculture processes, namely hatcheries, feed, and waste management has been critically analyzed. This study examined the sediment metal fractions and availability to infer bioaccumulation in marine harbor benthic organisms. Total metals were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry for chemical fractions and organisms. The results showed similar metal concentrations and distribution driven by rivers and harbor pollution. We found significant differences in metal accumulation in marine benthic groups, highest in scavenger species. Their metal concentrations in decreasing order were 1.97-4568, 0.10-1260, 1.64-159, and 0.105-112 μg g -1 dw for hermit crabs, forams, bivalves, and polychaetes. Moreover, certain organisms, such as tusk shells, sea pens, bivalves, forams, and isopods, may exhibit selective metal accumulation. Biota-sediment accumulation factors (>1) were highest for essential metals like Cu, Zn, and Mn, while toxic metals like As, Cr, Co, and Ni increased. We evaluated the influence of organic matter in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in port sediments using multiple linear regression (MLR) and prediction models. Total sediment PAHs ranged between 45 and 3230 ng/g dw (average: 557 ± 962 ng/g dw), with PAHs primarily originating from river inputs, confined to areas near the estuaries. Coal/biomaterial combustion and petroleum mainly contribute to the presence of PAHs along estuaries, with medium-high to high ecological risks. MLR TPAHs prediction model included variables, namely, the marine-derived total organic carbon (TOC mar ), terrestrial fraction of organic matter (F terr ), and carbon-to‑nitrogen ratio (CNR). Results indicate that mainly marine- followed by terrestrially-derived organic matter influenced sediment PAH distribution. Total organic nitrogen and CNR were variables in the toxic equivalent (TEQ) prediction model, demonstrating that terrestrial pollution sources primarily influenced TEQ. Whether stem-cell-like cancer cells avert ferroptosis to mediate therapy resistance remains unclear. In this study, using a soft fibrin gel culture system, we found that tumor-repopulating cells (TRCs) with stem-cell-like cancer cell characteristics resist chemotherapy and radiotherapy by decreasing ferroptosis sensitivity. Mechanistically, through quantitative mass spectrometry and lipidomic analysis, we determined that mitochondria metabolic kinase PCK2 phosphorylates and activates ACSL4 to drive ferroptosis-associated phospholipid remodeling. TRCs downregulate the PCK2 expression to confer themselves on a structural ferroptosis-resistant state. Notably, in addition to confirming the role of PCK2-pACSL4(T679) in multiple preclinical models, we discovered that higher PCK2 and pACSL4(T679) levels are correlated with better response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as lower distant metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cohorts., (© 2024. In order to alleviate the issue of data sparsity, knowledge graphs are introduced into recommender systems because they contain diverse information about items. The existing knowledge graph enhanced recommender systems utilize both user-item interaction data and knowledge graph, but those methods ignore the semantic difference between interaction data and knowledge graph. On the other hand, for the item representations obtained from two kinds of graph structure data respectively, the existing methods of fusing representations only consider the item representations themselves, without considering the personalized preference of users. In order to overcome the limitations mentioned above, we present a recommendation method named Interaction-Knowledge Semantic Alignment for Recommendation (IKSAR). By introducing a semantic alignment module, the semantic difference between the interaction bipartite graph and the knowledge graph is reduced. The representation of user is integrated during the fusion of representations of item, which improves the quality of the fused representation of item. To validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, we perform comprehensive experiments on three datasets. Background: Many patients with lung cancer have underlying chronic lung diseases. We assume that baseline lung functions might also affect the prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients receiving immunotherapy., Objectives: We aimed to assess the impact of pretreatment clinical parameters, including lung function measures such as forced vital capacity (FVC), on the prognosis of patients with NSCLC following immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) therapy., Design: Retrospective multicenter study., Methods: Study subjects were consecutively selected from a multicenter cohort of patients with NSCLC who were undergoing immunotherapy. Patients were selected regardless of their initial cancer stage and prior treatment. The primary outcome was immunotherapy-related overall survival (iOS), defined as the duration from the initiation of immunotherapy to the time patients were censored. Spirometry values were acquired before bronchodilator application and were performed within the year before the first ICI treatment., Results: We selected 289 patients for evaluation. The median iOS was 10.9 months (95% confidence interval (CI), 7.5-14.3). Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression, tested by SP263, was <1% in 20.9%, 1%-49% in 44.3%, and ⩾50% in 32.6% of the patients. ICI was used most often as second-line treatment (70.2%), followed by first line (13.1%), and third line (11.4%). In the Kaplan-Meier analysis, the median iOS of the low FVC group was significantly shorter than that in the preserved FVC group (6.10 (95% CI, 4.45-7.76) months vs 14.40 (95% CI, 10.61-18.34) months, p  < 0.001)). A Cox regression analysis for iOS showed that age, poor performance status, PD-L1 expression measured by SP263, stage at diagnosis, and FVC (% predicted) were independent predictive factors. When we replaced FVC (%) in the multivariable analysis with forced expiratory volume in 1 s (%), diffusing lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco; %), or DLco (absolute), each of the pulmonary function factors showed a significant association with iOS., Conclusion: Pre-immunotherapy FVC (%) predicted immunotherapy-related outcomes in NSCLC patients, regardless of initial stage at diagnosis and prior treatment modalities., (© The Author(s), 2024.)

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent organic pollutants that severely threaten the environment and human health due to their distinct chemical composition, extensive production, widespread distribution, bioaccumulation in nature, and long-term persistence. This review focuses on the occurrence and sources of PFAS in seafood, with a particular emphasis on advanced detection methods viz. nanoparticle-based, biosensor-based, and metal-organic frameworks-based, and mass spectrometric techniques. The challenges associated with these advanced detection technologies are also discussed. Recent research and regulatory updates about PFAS, including hazardous and potential health effects, epidemiological studies, and various risk assessment models, have been reviewed. In addition, the need for global monitoring programs and regulations on PFAS are critically reviewed by underscoring their crucial role in protecting human health and the environment. Further, approaches for reducing PFAS in seafood are highlighted with future innovative remediation directions. Although advanced PFAS analytical methods are available, selectivity, sample preparation, and sensitivity are still significant challenges associated with detection of PFAS in seafood matrices.  Moreover, crucial research gaps and solutions to essential concerns are critically explored in this review., (© 2024. Duck hepatitis A virus type 1 (DHAV-1) is the main pathogen causing viral hepatitis in ducks, marked by high contagion and acute mortality. Live attenuated DHAV-1 vaccines are widely used to control the disease. This study aims to develop a mismatch amplification mutation assay (MAMA)-PCR for the rapid detection and differentiation of Korean DHAV-1 wild-type strains from vaccine strains. A MAMA primer was designed to target a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) at position 2276 within the VP1 gene, allowing differentiation in a single PCR reaction. The MAMA-PCR accurately identified both strains, with detection limits of 10 0.5 ELD 50 /mL and 10 2.3 ELD 50 /mL, respectively. The MAMA-PCR demonstrated specificity, showing no cross-reactivity with 12 other viral and bacterial pathogens. The MAMA-PCR was applied to 89 farms, yielding results consistent with nested-PCR and sequence determination, identifying four positive farms for DHAV-1 vaccine strains. In conclusion, this study is the first to employ the MAMA-PCR method to distinguish between DHAV-1 wild-type and vaccine strains. The developed method is rapid, simple, specific, and sensitive, thereby serving as an effective tool for clinical diagnostics in identifying and differentiating between Korean DHAV-1 wild-type and vaccine strains.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prospective association between physical activity (PA), independently or in conjunction with other contributing factors, and osteoporosis (OP) outcomes., Methods: The Physical Activity in Osteoporosis Outcomes (PAOPO) study was a community-based cohort investigation. A structured questionnaire was used to gather the participants' sociodemographic characteristics. Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements were performed to assess OP outcomes, and the relationship between BMD and OP was evaluated within this cohort., Results: From 2013 to 2014, 8,471 participants aged 18 years and older were recruited from Tangshan, China's Jidong community. Based on their PA level, participants were categorized as inactive, moderately active, or very active. Men showed higher physical exercise levels than women across the activity groups. BMD was significantly higher in the very active group than in the moderately active and inactive groups. Objective: This study examined the effect of sirtuin 4 (SIRT4), a NAD+-dependent deacetylase, on the proliferation and progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC)., Methods: Data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were analyzed to identify SIRT4 expression in thyroid cancer. Subsequently, the correlation between SIRT4 expression and clinical characteristics was examined in 205 PTC tissue samples. In vitro assays using three human thyroid cancer cell lines (B-CPAP, TPC-1, and SNU-790) were conducted to assess the effects of regulated SIRT4 expression on cell growth, apoptosis, invasion, and migration. Furthermore, in vivo experiments were performed in a xenograft mouse model., Results: Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and TCGA data indicated that SIRT4 expression is lower in thyroid cancer and SIRT4 downregulation is associated with poor overall survival. In PTC tissues, positive SIRT4 expression was associated with decreased extracapsular extension. In in vitro experiments using three human thyroid cancer cell lines, overexpression of SIRT4 decreased cell survival, clonogenic potential, and invasion and migratory capabilities, as well as inducing apoptosis and increasing reactive oxygen species levels. SIRT4 overexpression upregulated E-cadherin and downregulated N-cadherin, suggesting its potential involvement in the regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. These findings were confirmed in vivo using a xenograft mouse model., Conclusion: This study provides novel insight into the potential contribution of SIRT4 to the regulation of the pathological progression of PTC. The data suggest that SIRT4 plays a tumor-suppressive role in PTC by inhibiting growth, survival, and invasive potential. Future research should investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects of SIRT4.

Cd ions are absorbed and transported from the soil by crop roots, which are the first organ to be exposed to Cd. This results in an increase in cadmium ions in crops, significantly affecting crop growth and yield. Exogenous melatonin (MT) can help reduce cadmium (Cd) stress in cotton, but the specific contribution of roots to this process remains unclear. In order to address this knowledge gap, an in-situ root phenotyping study was conducted to investigate the the phenotype and lifespan of roots under cadmium stress (Cd) and melatonin treatment (Cd + MT). The results showed that MT alleviated the decreases in plant height, leaf area, SPAD value, stem diameter, stomatal conductance and net photosynthetic rate under Cd stress, which further promoted the biomass accumulation in various cotton organs. What is more, the Cd + MT treatment increased root volume, surface area, and length under Cd stress by 25.63 %, 10.58 %, and 21.89 %, respectively, compared with Cd treatment. Interestingly, compared to Cd treatment, Cd + MT treatment also significantly extended the lifespan of roots and root hairs by 6.68 days and 2.18 days, respectively. In addition, Cd + MT treatment reduced the transport of Cd from roots to shoots, particularly to bolls, and decreased the Cd bioconcentration factor in bolls by 61.17 %, compared to Cd treatment. In conclusion, these findings show that applying MT externally helps reduce Cd stress by delaying root senescence, promoting root development and regulating Cd transport. The weathering process can cause the volatilization of light components in crude oil, leading to the accumulation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in weathered oil field soils. These TPH compounds are relatively resistant to biodegradation, posing a significant environmental hazard by contributing to soil degradation. TPH represents a complex mixture of petroleum-based hydrocarbons classified as persistent organic pollutants in soil and groundwater. The release of TPH pollutants into the environment poses serious threats to ecosystems and human health. Currently, various methods are available for TPH-contaminated soil remediation, with bioremediation technology recognized as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach. While converting TPH to CO 2 is a common remediation method, the complex structures and diverse types of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) involved can result in excessive CO 2 generation, potentially exacerbating the greenhouse effect. Alternatively, transforming TPH into energy forms like methane through bioremediation, followed by collection and reuse, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. This process relies on the synergistic interaction between Methanogens archaea and syntrophic bacteria, forming a consortium known as the oil-degrading bacterial consortium. Methanogens produce methane through anaerobic digestion (AD), with hydrogenotrophic methanogens (HTMs) utilizing H 2 as an electron donor, playing a crucial role in biomethane production. Candidatus Methanoliparia (Ca. Methanoliparia) was found in the petroleum archaeal community of weathered Oil field in northeast China. Ca. Methanoliparia has demonstrated its independent ability to decompose and produce new energy (biomethane) without symbiosis, contribute to transitioning weathered oil fields towards new energy. Therefore, this review focuses on the principles, mechanisms, and developmental pathways of HTMs during new energy production in the degradation of PHs. Microalgae-assisted bioremediation, enriched by nanomaterial integration, offers a sustainable approach to environmental pollution mitigation while harnessing microalgae's potential as a biocatalyst and biorefinery resource. This strategy explores the interaction between microalgae, nanomaterials, and bioremediation, advancing sustainability objectives. The potent combination of microalgae and nanomaterials highlights the biorefinery's promise in effective pollutant removal and valuable algal byproduct production. Various nanomaterials, including metallic nanoparticles and semiconductor quantum dots, are reviewed for their roles in inorganic and organic pollutant removal and enhancement of microalgae growth. Limited studies have been conducted to establish nanomaterial's (CeO 2, ZnO, Fe 3 O 4, Al 2 O 3, etc.) role on microalgae in pollution remediation; most studies cover inorganic pollutants (heavy metals and nutrients) remediation, exhibited 50-300% bioremediation efficiency improvement; however, some studies cover antibiotics and toxic dyes removal efficiency with 19-95% improvement. These aspects unveil the complex mechanisms underlying nanomaterial-pollutant-microalgae interactions, focusing on adsorption, photocatalysis, and quantum dot properties. Strategies to enhance bioremediation efficiency are discussed, including pollutant uptake improvement, real-time control, tailored nanomaterial design, and nutrient recovery. The review assesses recent advancements, navigates challenges, and envisions a sustainable future for bioremediation, underlining the transformative capacity of nanomaterial-driven microalgae-assisted bioremediation. Microplastics (MPs) pose risks to both aquatic ecosystems and human health. This study investigated MPs in the shells and soft tissues of hard clams (Meretrix taiwanica) cultured in the inland waters of Taiwan. This study further developed two novel risk indices for assessing the potential ecological and health consequences of MPs. Moreover, the metal concentrations in the clam's soft tissues and the associated consumption health risks were investigated. Clamshells contained significant amounts of MPs with an average abundance of 16.6 ± 6.9 MPs/ind., which was higher than in the soft tissues (2.7 ± 1.7 MPs/ind.). The distribution and sizes of MPs in shells and soft tissues were similar, primarily small-sized (<2 mm, >99 %), blue (>65 %), and fibrous (>99 %). Dominant MP polymer types included rayon (83.5 %), polyethylene terephthalate (11.8 %), and polyacrylonitrile (3.6 %). The proposed MP potential ecological risk index indicates a higher potential ecological MP risk in soft tissues (302-423) than in shells (270-278) of the clams. The MP potential hazard risk index showed that the risk of exposure to MP through shellfish consumption decreased with age. The total hazard index (THI) value suggested negligible health hazards from metal exposure through shellfish consumption. Moreover, there was no significant correlation between MPs and metal concentrations in soft tissues, suggesting that metals bound to MPs contribute minimally to the total accumulated metals in clam's soft tissues. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder affecting people worldwide. It is characterized by several key features, including hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and dysbiosis. Epidemiologic studies have shown that T2DM is closely associated with the development and progression of cancer. T2DM-related hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia contribute to cancer progression through complex signaling pathways. These factors increase drug resistance, apoptosis resistance, and the migration, invasion, and proliferation of cancer cells. Here, we will focus on the role of hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia associated with T2DM in cancer development. Additionally, we will elucidate the potential molecular mechanisms underlying their effects on cancer progression. Worldwide, preterm birth (PTB) is a significant cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Surprisingly, the rate of PTB in the United States is among the top 10 nations in the world, comparable to those of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bangladesh, India, and Nigeria. However, there is no predictive biomarker or understanding of the mechanisms of PTB. Recent evidence suggests that the vaginal microbiome can be clustered into Community State Types (CST) and is altered in various obstetrical syndromes. The review aimed to summarize multiple studies on the vaginal microbiome and PTB and identify a particular microbe or CST associated with PTB. We hypothesized that there exists a specific microorganism that, when dominant within the vaginal microbiome, is protective against PTB. We hypothesized that the absence of a particular microbe or CST is a risk factor for PTB. To answer this question, we reviewed the current literature aiming to identify such a microorganism or a group of microorganisms. Our results indicate that no particular microbe or CST can be implicated in PTB. In recent years, the recognition of human emotions based on electrocardiogram (ECG) signals has been considered a novel area of study among researchers. Despite the challenge of extracting latent emotion information from ECG signals, existing methods are able to recognize emotions by calculating the heart rate variability (HRV) features. However, such local features have drawbacks, as they do not provide a comprehensive description of ECG signals, leading to suboptimal recognition performance. For the first time, we propose a new strategy to extract hidden emotional information from the global ECG trajectory for emotion recognition. Specifically, a period of ECG signals is decomposed into sub-signals of different frequency bands through ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), and a series of multi-sequence trajectory graphs is constructed by orthogonally combining these sub-signals to extract latent emotional information. Additionally, to better utilize these graph features, a network has been designed that includes self-supervised graph representation learning and ensemble learning for classification. This approach surpasses recent notable works, achieving outstanding results, with an accuracy of 95.08% in arousal and 95.90% in valence detection. Additionally, this global feature is compared and discussed in relation to HRV features, with the intention of providing inspiration for subsequent research.

Community detection has become a prominent task in complex network analysis. However, most of the existing methods for community detection only focus on the lower order structure at the level of individual nodes and edges and ignore the higher order connectivity patterns that characterize the fundamental building blocks within the network. In recent years, researchers have shown interest in motifs and their role in network analysis. However, most of the existing higher order approaches are based on shallow methods, failing to capture the intricate nonlinear relationships between nodes. In order to better fuse higher order and lower order structural information, a novel deep learning framework called motif-based contrastive learning for community detection (MotifCC) is proposed. First, a higher order network is constructed based on motifs. Subnetworks are then obtained by removing isolated nodes, addressing the fragmentation issue in the higher order network. Next, the concept of contrastive learning is applied to effectively fuse various kinds of information from nodes, edges, and higher order and lower order structures. This aims to maximize the similarity of corresponding node information, while distinguishing different nodes and different communities. Finally, based on the community structure of subnetworks, the community labels of all nodes are obtained by using the idea of label propagation. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets validate the effectiveness of MotifCC.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) represent a crucial component of targeted therapies in gastric cancer, potentially altering traditional treatment paradigms. Many ADCs have entered rigorous clinical trials based on biological theories and preclinical experiments. Modality trials have also been conducted in combination with monoclonal antibody therapies, chemotherapies, immunotherapies, and other treatments to enhance the efficacy of drug coordination effects. However, ADCs exhibit limitations in treating gastric cancer, including resistance triggered by their structure or other factors. Ongoing intensive researches and preclinical experiments are yielding improvements, while enhancements in drug development processes and concomitant diagnostics during the therapeutic period actively boost ADC efficacy. The optimal treatment strategy for gastric cancer patients is continually evolving. The impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on the marine food web is crucially understudied in the primary trophic system. We evaluated the seasonal dynamics of PAHs in microplankton in a polluted environment (Taiwan), northeastern South China Sea. Replicate size-fractionated microplankton (55-1000 μm) were freeze-dried, and PAHs were extracted with a 1:1 v/v ratio of acetone: n-hexane, then analyzed using GC-MS. Total PAHs ranged between 68 and 2548 ng/g dw in microplankton, greatest during spring (130-2548 ng/g), followed by autumn (135-772 ng/g) and summer (44-423 ng/g). Spatial distribution varied through seasons but was higher in the southern part (S6 > S4 > S5 > S2 > S3 > S1 > S7), dominated by higher-ring PAHs from mixed pyrogenic and petrogenic sources. PAHs are significantly correlated with environmental factors, especially in colder seasons and lower salinity areas. Suspended matter and plankton influenced PAH transport and partitioning seasonally. Marine organisms, especially top predators such as sharks, are susceptible to environmental pollutants like microplastics (MPs) and phthalate esters (PAEs), leading to ecosystem risks. Research on contamination in these apex species is, however, still limited. This study investigated MPs and PAEs in multiple shark species (Isurus oxyrinchus, Alopias superciliosus, Alopias pelagicus, Carcharhinus brevipinna, and Sphyrna zygaena) off Taiwan's eastern coast. Gastric tissue analyses revealed ubiquitous microplastics (2-31 particles), which positively correlated with body lengths and weights for Isurus oxyrinchus. Blue, fiber-shaped (1-2 mm), and rayon-based MPs are likely associated with textile fiber pollution. The PAEs concentration mean was 7035 ± 6829 ng/g, ww, having DEHP and DiNP as primary compounds. The next basket recommendation task aims to predict the items in the user's next basket by modeling the user's basket sequence. Existing next basket recommendations focus on improving recommendation performance, and most of these methods are black-box models, ignoring the importance of providing explanations to improve user satisfaction. Furthermore, most next basket recommendation methods are designed for consumer users, and few methods are proposed for business user characteristics. To address the above problems, we propose a Knowledge Reinforced Explainable Next Basket Recommendation (KRE-NBR). Specifically, we construct a basket-based knowledge graph and obtain pretrained embeddings of entities that contain rich information of the knowledge graph. To obtain high-quality user predictive vectors, we fuse user pretrained embeddings, user basket sequence level embeddings, and user repurchase embeddings. One highlight of the user repurchase embeddings is that they are able to model business user repurchase behavior. To make the results of next basket recommendations explainable, we use reinforcement learning for path reasoning to find the items recommended in the next basket and generate recommendation explanations at the same time. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to provide recommendation explanations for next basket recommendations. Ischemic stroke ranks among the leading causes of death and disability in humans and is accompanied by motor and cognitive impairment. However, the precise mechanisms underlying injury after stroke and effective treatment strategies require further investigation. Peroxiredoxin-1 (PRDX1) triggers an extensive inflammatory cascade that plays a pivotal role in the pathology of ischemic stroke, resulting in severe brain damage from activated microglia. In the present study, we used molecular dynamics simulation and nuclear magnetic resonance to detect the interaction between PRDX1 and a specific interfering peptide. We used behavioral, morphological, and molecular experimental methods to demonstrate the effect of PRDX1-peptide on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) in mice and to investigate the related mechanism. We found that PRDX1-peptide bound specifically to PRDX1 and improved motor and cognitive functions in I/R mice. In addition, pretreatment with PRDX1-peptide reduced the infarct area and decreased the number of apoptotic cells in the penumbra. Furthermore, PRDX1-peptide inhibited microglial activation and downregulated proinflammatory cytokines including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α through inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby attenuating ischemic brain injury. Our findings clarify the precise mechanism underlying PRDX1-induced inflammation after ischemic stroke and suggest that the PRDX1-peptide can significantly alleviate the postischemic inflammatory response by interfering with PRDX1 amino acids 70-90 and thereby inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway.
