Purpose: To investigate factors influencing long-term utilization and disposal patterns of cryopreserved semen straws in oncological patients., Methods: This retrospective study included all men who cryopreserved semen due to cancer between October 1993 and December 2021. To assess non-used cryopreserved sperm straws, we investigated the following parameters: cryopreserved semen and usage for fertility treatments versus disposal, summarized by total non-used cases. A Kaplan-Meier curve was used to describe last usage and disposal requests over a 15-year analysis. A Log-rank test was applied to compare between age and paternal status categories., Results: The cohort consisted of 445 patients. Of these, 55 patients utilized thawed semen for fertility treatments, and 65 opted for disposals, leaving 325 patients who neither used nor disposed of their cryopreserved straws. Our findings revealed a distinct pattern based on age, with the youngest age group (< 25 years) exhibiting significantly lower utilization and disposal rates compared to older patient groups. Additionally, men without children exhibited significantly fewer disposal requests compared to fathers. The median cryopreserved straws were 10 (interquartile range, 6 to 17), while the median used straws were only 2 (interquartile range, 2 to 6)., Discussion: Our study brings attention to the additional and needless burden of preservation from both patient and preserved straw perspectives. Implementing a policy based on a cost-effective approach, incorporating time and straw limits, and considering demographic characteristics, could enhance efficiency and necessitate patient consent before preservation., (© 2024. Aim: The aim of this research is to evaluate the demographic attributes and clinical manifestations of uveitis in adult patients frequenting the Mansoura Ophthalmic Center., Methods: Utilizing a cross-sectional, prospective, analytical study design, this research engaged adult patients visiting the outpatient uveitis clinic at the Mansoura Ophthalmic Center. Comprehensive case evaluations involved collecting detailed patient histories, examining ophthalmic records, and conducting thorough ocular examinations. These examinations encompassed the assessment of visual acuity, slit-lamp examination, and fundus examination. Furthermore, selected cases underwent optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA)., Results: The Study involved an examination of 411 eyes belonging to 254 uveitic patients. In the Egyptian context, anterior uveitis surfaced as the most prevalent form of uveitis. The average Best-Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA) among the cases studied was 0.797 ± 0.77 LogMAR, with the majority of cases demonstrating vision superior to 0.3 LogMAR. Notably, the principal causes of vision loss were generally reversible. Macular edema was identified as the leading cause of vision loss, representing 20.7% of cases as evidenced by OCT. The ratio of non-infectious to infectious uveitis stood at 92.2% to 7.8%. The most commonly observed etiologies of non-infectious uveitis included Behçet's disease (33.3%), Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) syndrome (19.7%), idiopathic causes (19.2%), and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) (11.9%). Conversely, the most frequent infectious etiologies were trematode-induced uveitis (2.9%), herpetic uveitis (1.7%), toxoplasmosis (1.5%), tuberculosis (TB) (1.5%), and brucellosis (0.2%)., Conclusions: This study conclusively indicates that anterior uveitis is the predominant anatomical type of uveitis in Egypt. Further, etiological diagnoses of uveitis should particularly emphasize Behçet's disease, VKH syndrome, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Objective: Intellectual disability (ID) is considered one of the most common human disorders characterized by significant deficits in cognition and functional and adaptive skills. The aims of this study were to describe the demographic and clinical features of a group of Moroccan individuals with ID living in the Tangier-Tetouan region., Design: This was a retro-prospective and descriptive exploratory monocentric study realized between November 2020 and August 2023. A total of 109 patients with ID were included. They were selected at four mental health centers in the Tangier-Tetouan region. Our data were treated and analyzed using the IBM SPSS version 26., Results: A male predominance of patients with ID was observed in our series (54.4% male vs. 42.6% female). The male-to-female ratio was 1.34. The mean±standard deviation (SD) age of our patients was 11.75±4.87 years, ranging from 1 to 35 years. The mean ages of mothers and fathers at the births of their children with ID were 28.36 and 35.6 years, respectively. Many co-occurring medical conditions were noted in our data (speech delay: 20.5%, concentration problems: 15.1%, hyperactivity: 11.1%, ambulation difficulties: 8.8%, aggressiveness: 8%, vision problems: 6.3%, epileptic seizures: 4%). Purpose: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Statins, which are effective in preventing ASCVD, are underused, particularly for primary prevention. This study examined trends in statin use for primary ASCVD prevention from 1999 to 2020, focusing on demographic variations., Methods: Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the present study includes individuals aged 18 years and older who had a greater than 10% risk of ASCVD over 10 years, and excluded patients with existing ASCVD. Subgroup analyses by demographic categories were performed. We calculated the changes in statin usage and used linear and quadratic tests to assess the linear and nonlinear trends in those changes., Results: A total of 10,037 participants were included. Statin usage increased from 16.16% in 1999 to 36.24% in 2010, and 41.74% in 2020 (quadratic P-value < 0.001). In the 18-44 years age group, statin usage increased from 2.52% in 1999 to 8.14% in 2020 (linear P-value = 0.322), showing no significant linear trend. In the "never-married" group, statin usage increased from 19.16% in 1999 to 30.05% in 2020 (linear P-value = 0.256)., Conclusion: Statin usage has shown a positive trend among populations requiring primary prevention for ASCVD. Currently, health policies are proving effective. However, the overall statin usage rate remains less than 50%. Although demographic characteristics are the most analyzed variables in the literature on workplace friendship, their effects on its formation and development remain unclear, owing to conflicting results. To draw generalizable conclusions, this study employed meta-analytical techniques to examine the relationships between employees' demographic characteristics and their workplace friendship, and investigated whether collectivism and year of data collection moderated this relationship. Seventy-seven empirical pieces of literature and 219 correlations (N = 34,856) were included in the final meta-analysis. Our findings revealed that male employees acquired more workplace friendships than female employees, and that organizational tenure, hierarchical position, and education were positively related to workplace friendships. However, employees' age and marital status had no significant effect on workplace friendships. Background and Aim: Bromazolam, a novel designer benzodiazepine (NBD), exhibits potent sedative, hypnotic and anxiolytic effects, raising concerns regarding its potential for misuse and fatal outcomes, particularly when combined with opioids such as fentanyl. Despite limited documented fatalities globally, its use poses a significant threat, exacerbated by under-reporting and a lack of routine testing. This study analysed NBD-related deaths in a major US city over a 4-year period., Methods: Analysis of accidental overdose deaths involving NBDs in San Francisco, CA, USA from 2020 to 2023, was performed utilizing medico-legal death investigations including comprehensive forensic toxicology, pathology and demographic information. San Francisco conducts thorough investigations into all non-natural and sudden unexpected deaths, including routine alcohol and drug testing of decedents under its jurisdiction, including etizolam, flualprazolam, flubromazolam and bromazolam analysis., Results: There was a sudden surge in bromazolam-related deaths, with 44 fatalities documented in 2023, contrasting with relatively fewer deaths related to other NBDs. Bromazolam fatalities frequently involved co-ingestion with opioids, primarily fentanyl, and stimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine. Demographic characteristics indicated a predominance of males, with a significant proportion lacking fixed addresses. Blood concentrations of bromazolam increased during the study period, suggesting heightened availability and/or purity in the community., Conclusion: There was a surge in bromazolam-related deaths during 2023 in San Francisco, CA, USA, contrasting with relatively stable numbers of deaths associated with other NBDs over the preceding years. Background: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major public health concern worldwide, affecting all age and social groups., Methods: In this retrospective study, of the 8265 autopsies performed in the Institute of Legal Medicine, 1618 cases of SCD were included. The aim of this study is to identify demographic characteristics, etiological factors, epidemiological characteristics and risk factors that lead to SCD., Results: The highest incidence of SCD was in age group 40-69 years (65.0%), 71.6% of this age group being men. Of the total number, 32.1% (520) occurred in the emergency room. The most common cause of sudden death is represented by coronary atherosclerotic disease, reported in 89.8% (1453) of cases, tricoronary lesions being found in 60% (870) of cases. Etiological factors of SCD encountered during autopsies were acute myocardial infarction in 13.9% (225), dilated cardiomyopathy 43.9% (710), cardiac hypertrophy 579 (36.07%), pericarditis 1.9% (30), myocarditis 1.73% (28) and adipositas cordis 5% (81). Along with epicardial fat and BMI, alcohol consumption was recorded in 17.9% (290), this being a potential trigger., Conclusions: Based on forensic autopsy and histological findings, a wide variety of factors are involved in the etiopathogenesis of SCD, some of which can be eliminated through preventive measures implemented early.

Introduction: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a prevalent concern among adolescents with depression, yet its relationship with demographic characteristics and physiological indicators remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate these relationships among inpatient adolescents aged 13 to 18 at a hospital affiliated with Guizhou Medical University., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 222 adolescent inpatients diagnosed with depression. Data on NSSI occurrence, demographic variables (gender, only-child status, age), and physiological indicators (ALT, TSH, FT4, PLR, TG, HDLC, LDLC, FT3, NLR, MLR) were collected and analyzed. Statistical analyses, including correlations and group comparisons, were performed to assess the associations between NSSI and these factors., Results: The prevalence of NSSI among the participants was 40.5%. Significant correlations were found between NSSI and several demographic and physiological factors. Specifically, NSSI was significantly associated with female gender, non-only-child status, younger age, lower ALT levels, higher TSH levels, lower FT4 levels, and higher PLR values. However, no significant differences were observed in TG, HDLC, LDLC, FT3, NLR, or MLR between the NSSI and non-NSSI groups., Discussion: The findings highlight distinct demographic and physiological profiles associated with NSSI among adolescents with depression. The prevalence rate of NSSI underscores its significance as a behavioral manifestation in this population. Purpose: To study the clinical and pathological characteristics of oral lichen planus (OLP) in a large sample., Materials and Methods: A comprehensive analysis was conducted on 105 patients with oral lichen planus (OLP), considering various factors including sex, age, disease site, lesion type, lesion area, morphological characteristics, self-reported symptoms, and history of systemic diseases. Histopathological examination was performed for each patient, and the pathology results were analysed according to sex and age group., Results: 70.5% of the OLP patients were female, and OLP was most likely to occur in the cheek, followed by the tongue, lips, gums and palate. The patients with moderate pain according to the VAS score accounted for 60%. Thirty-nine percent of the OLP patients had a systemic disease, and the most common clinical type of OLP was nonerosive. Most of the pathological results showed liquefaction degeneration of basal cells and infiltration of lamina propria lymphocytes. There was no statistically significant difference in pathological manifestations between male and female patients, and there were statistically significant differences in pathological manifestations among different ages patients., Conclusion: This study analysed the sociodemographic data and clinical manifestations of 105 OLP patients to guide follow-up treatment planning and disease monitoring. Moreover, pathological manifestations should be analysed to avoid delayed treatment and to monitor for carcinogenesis. Furthermore, the correlation of pathological manifestations among OLP patients with different sexes and ages is conducive to further research on the specific differential manifestations and possible underlying mechanisms involved.

This study aims to investigate the predictive occupant demographic characteristics of thermal sensation (TS) and thermal satisfaction (TSa) as well as to find the most effective machine learning (ML) algorithms for predicting TS and TSa. To achieve this, a survey campaign was carried out in three mixed-mode buildings to develop TS and TSa prediction models by using six ML algorithms (Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighborhood (KNN) and Support Vector Machine). The prediction models were developed based on six demographic characteristics (gender, age, thermal history, education level, income, occupation). The results show that gender, age, and thermal history are significant predictors of both TS and TSa. Education level, income, and occupation were not significant predictors of TS, but were significant predictors of TSa. The study also found that RF and KNN are the most effective ML algorithms for predicting TS, while DT and RF are the most effective ML algorithms for predicting TSa. The study found that the accuracy of TS prediction models ranges from 83% to 99%, with neutral being the most correctly classified scale. To ascertain the incidence trends of scrub typhus in the Chungcheong region, we analyzed the epidemiological survey information of 14,379 cases of scrub typhus reported to the integrated disease health management system of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between 2012 and 2022, along with demographic data from the Korean Statistics Information Service. Geographical analyses were performed to confirm the correlation between high-risk areas and the proportion of elderly people. The average age, proportion of elderly people, and changes in the agricultural population were statistically associated with incidence. The incidence of scrub typhus, and the agricultural population, in the Chungcheong region has decreased compared with that in 2012-2013. However, recent trends indicate a resurgence linked to increased outdoor activity, with higher risks observed in older age groups. Additionally, advancing age correlates with a heightened probability of reinfection and additional infections with other febrile diseases. The incidence of scrub typhus in the Chungcheong region (2012-2022) is changing according to age and route of infection, highlighting the need for revised prevention and promotion policies.

Background: Metal-regulatory transcription factor 1 (MTF1), a conserved metal-binding transcription factor in eukaryotes, regulates the proliferation of cancer cells by activating downstream target genes and then participates in the formation and progression of tumors, including lung cancer (LC). The expression level of MTF1 is down-regulated in LC, and high expression of MTF1 is associated with a good prognosis of LC. However, the association between MTF1 polymorphism and LC risk has not been explored., Methods: The genotyping of MTF1 Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) including rs473279, rs28411034, rs28411352, and rs3748682 was identified by the Agena MassARRAY system among 670 healthy controls and 670 patients with LC. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated by logistics regression to assess the association of these SNPs with LC risk., Results: MTF1 rs28411034 (OR 1.22, 95% CI 1.03-1.45, p = 0.024) and rs3748682 (OR 1.24, 95% CI 1.04-1.47, p = 0.014) were associated with higher LC susceptibility overall. Moreover, the effect of rs28411034 and rs3748682 on LC susceptibility was observed in males, subjects with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24 kg/m 2 , smokers, drinkers, and patients with lung squamous carcinoma (OR and 95% CI > 1, p < 0.05). Besides, rs28411352 (OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.55-0.97, p = 0.028,) showed protective effect for reduced LC risk in drinkers., Conclusions: We were first who reported that rs28411034 and rs3748682 tended to be relevant to increased LC susceptibility among the Chinese Han population. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has prompted urgent efforts to develop and deploy effective vaccines. Covishield and Covaxin are two prominent COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use; however, concerns regarding their safety persist., Objective: This longitudinal follow-up study aimed to comprehensively assess and compare the demographic characteristics, frequencies, severities of reported side effects, and associations between vaccine type and demographic factors among individuals vaccinated with Covishield and Covaxin., Methods: A telephonic questionnaire was used to collect data from individuals who attended COVID-19 vaccination programs between January 1, 2021, and January 1, 2022. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the associations between vaccine type, demographic factors, and likelihood of experiencing side effects., Results: Covaxin recipients exhibited a lower incidence of mild flu-like illness (16 cases) and post-vaccination infection (55 cases) than Covishield recipients (110 and 98 cases, respectively). However, Covaxin recipients reported more cases of soreness at the injection site (139 cases) than did Covishield recipients (172 cases). Logistic regression analysis revealed significantly higher odds of experiencing side effects among Covaxin recipients than among Covishield recipients (OR = 1.687, p < 0.001). Age was inversely associated with the likelihood of experiencing side effects (OR = 0.982, p < 0.001), while sex and ethnicity also exhibited significant associations., Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the safety profiles of the Covishield and Covaxin COVID-19 vaccines. Metabolic syndrome has emerged as a significant global public health concern, necessitating comprehensive examination alongside cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). This study provides a comprehensive analysis of clinical trials, drawing upon data sourced from the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP), until April 2023. Information pertaining to trial attributes and intervention features was gathered and subsequently summarized. Among the 2379 studies found on ICTRP from 18 clinical registries, ClinicalTrials.gov was the most popular with 55 % of the studies, based on data emerging from the United States. Most trials were for treatment (44 %) and prevention (17 %), with fewer focused on basic science, and diagnostic purposes. Diet and exercise were the most prominent, with 710 and 247 studies, respectively. Metformin and statins emerge as leading pharmacological therapies, reflecting the prevalence of CVD and T2D in the context of metabolic syndrome. However, there is growing recognition of other promising interventions, such as Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 agonists and Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV inhibitors, which offer potential in slowing the progression of metabolic syndrome-related conditions. Notably, clinical trials primarily assessed diagnostic markers like lipid profiles, insulin, and blood pressure, rather than body mass and body mass index. These parameters are crucial for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of interventions for metabolic syndrome due to its multi-condition nature. Background: Over the past decade, there has been increased utilization of medical cannabis (MC) in the United States. Few studies have described sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with MC use after certification and more specifically, factors associated with use of MC products with different cannabinoid profiles. Methods: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study of adults ( N =225) with chronic or severe pain on opioids who were newly certified for MC in New York State and enrolled in the study between November 2018 and January 2022. We collected data over participants' first 3 months in the study, from web-based assessment of MC use every 2 weeks (unit of analysis). We used generalized estimating equation models to examine associations of sociodemographic and clinical factors with (1) MC use (vs. no MC use) and (2) use of MC products with different cannabinoid profiles. Results: On average, 29% of the participants used predominantly high delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) MC products within the first 3 months of follow-up, 30% used other MC products, and 41% did not use MC products. Non-Hispanic White race, pain at multiple sites, and past 30-day sedative use were associated with a higher likelihood of MC use (vs. no MC use). Current tobacco use, unregulated cannabis use, and enrollment in the study during the COVID-19 pandemic were associated with a lower likelihood of MC use (vs. no MC use). Among participants reporting MC use, female gender and older age were associated with a lower likelihood of using predominantly high-THC MC products (vs. other MC products). Conclusion: White individuals were more likely to use MC after certification, which may be owing to access and cost issues. The findings that sedative use was associated with greater MC use, but tobacco and unregulated cannabis were associated with less MC use, may imply synergism and substitution that warrant further research. From the policy perspective, additional measures are needed to ensure equitable availability of and access to MC. Health practitioners should check patients' history and current use of sedative, tobacco, and unregulated cannabis before providing an MC recommendation and counsel patients on safe cannabis use. clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03268551).

Introduction: Coxsackievirus A6 (CVA6) has emerged as a significant pathogen responsible for severe cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). This study aims to delineate the demographic characteristics and analyze the viral evolution of severe HFMD associated with CVA6, thereby assisting in its surveillance and management., Methods: In this investigation, 74 strains of CVA6 were isolated from samples collected from severe HFMD cases between 2012 and 2023. The VP1 gene sequences of CVA6 were amplified and analyzed to assess population historical dynamics and evolutionary characteristics using BEAST, DnaSP6, and PopART., Results: A significant portion (94.4%) of severe CVA6-associated HFMD cases (51 out of 54, with 20 lacking age information) were children under 5 years old. Among the 74 CVA6 strains analyzed, 72 belonged to the D3a sub-genotype, while only two strains were D2 sub-genotype. The average genetic distance between VP1 sequences prior to 2015 was 0.027, which increased to 0.051 when compared to sequences post-2015. Historical population dynamics analysis indicated three significant population expansions of severe CVA6-associated HFMD during 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2019-2020, resulting in the formation of 65 distinct haplotypes. Consistent with the MCC tree findings, transitioning between regional haplotypes required multiple base substitutions, showcasing an increase in population diversity during the evolutionary process (from 14 haplotypes in 2013 to 55 haplotypes over the subsequent decade)., Conclusions: CVA6, associated with severe HFMD, is evolving and presents a risk of outbreak occurrence. Background: The domination of the Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) industry in music markets has led to a significant increase in the number of CCM performers. Performing in a wide variety of singing styles involves exposing CCM singers to specific risk factors potentially leading to voice problems. This, in turn, necessitates the consideration of this particular group of voice users in the Occupational Health framework. The aim of the present research was threefold. First, it sought to profile the group of Polish CCM singers. Second, it was designed to explore the prevalence of self-reported voice problems and voice quality in this population, in both speech and singing. Third, it aimed to explore the relationships between voice problems and lifetime singing involvement, occupational voice use, smoking, alcohol consumption, vocal training, and microphone use, as potential voice risk factors., Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in Poland from January 2020 to April 2023. An online survey included socio-demographic information, singing involvement characteristics, and singers' voice self-assessment. The prevalence of voice problems was assessed by the Polish versions of the Vocal Tract Discomfort Scale (VTDS) and the Singing Voice Handicap Index (SVHI). Also, a self-reported dysphonia symptoms protocol was applied. The perceived overall voice quality was assessed by a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of 100 mm., Results: 412 singers, 310 women and 102 men, completed the survey. Nearly half of the studied population declared lifetime singing experience over 10 years with an average daily singing time of 1 or 2 h. 283 participants received vocal training. For 11.4% of respondents, singing was the primary income source, and 42% defined their career goals as voice-related. The median scores of the VTDS were 11.00 (0-44) and 12.00 (0-40) for the Frequency and Severity subscales, respectively. The median SVHI score of 33 (0-139) was significantly higher than the normative values determined in a systematic review and meta-analysis (2018). Strong positive correlations were observed between SVHI and both VTD subscales: Frequency ( r = 0.632, p  < 0.001) and Severity ( r  = 0.611, p < 0.001). The relationships between most of the other variables studied were weak or negligible., Conclusion: The examined CCM singers exhibited substantial diversity with regard to musical genre preferences, aspirations pertaining to singing endeavors, career affiliations, and source of income. Background and Aims: The COVID-19 pandemic and the infection of numerous individuals from diverse societies have emerged as major global challenges. Given the limited resources in intensive care units, effective bed management and resource allocation require a deep understanding of the disease. This study aimed to assess the epidemiology and treatment outcomes of COVID-19 patients admitted to an intensive care unit in an Iranian hospital in Neyshabur city., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on COVID-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care units in Razavi Khorasan, Iran in 2021. Census sampling was used to include all intensive care units. Of the initial 480 cases, 54 cases were excluded based on the exclusion criteria, leaving 426 cases for the study. Data were collected with the help of a data collection form that was designed by the researcher and its content validity and reliability were measured with Cronbach's alpha coefficient ( α  = 89%.). Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20 software. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Mean, standard deviation, and interquartile range indicators were used for descriptive statistics, and absolute frequency and relative frequency (percentage) were used to show numbers and ratios., Results: The mean ( SD ) age of the patients was 66.33 (15.05) years, and 49.3% were female. The results showed that arterial blood oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and Alzheimer's disease were significant variables for predicting mortality. Furthermore, arterial blood oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and the need for transfusion of blood products were significant variables in predicting hospitalization and the risk of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)., Conclusion: This study demonstrated that arterial blood oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and Alzheimer's disease are crucial variables for predicting death. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global health issue with various effects on the physical and mental state of the societies. The aim of this study was to identify the demographic characteristics and mental health condition of Tehran Municipality employees during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on Tehran Municipality employees in 2020-2021. Participants were selected using stratified random sampling and were divided into COVID-19 and uninfected groups. Demographic characteristics, COVID-19 risk behaviors, General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and Well- Being Social Inventory were filled for all participants., Results: A total of 510 participants (363 uninfected participants and 147 participants with COVID-19) were evaluated. The prevalence of female gender was significantly higher in COVID-19 group compared to uninfected group (p < 0.001). There was a significant difference between groups in terms of education level (p < 0.001), prevalence of excess weight (p < 0.001), and working sector (p < 0.001). The uninfected group mainly had low contact with clients (p < 0.001) and few underlying diseases (p = 0.004) compared to the COVID-19 group. The mean GHQ-28 and Well- Being Social Inventory were significantly higher in the uninfected group compared to the COVID-19 group (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively). The prevalence of no and low contact level was significantly higher in the high infection cluster compared to moderate and low infection clusters (p = 0.024)., Conclusions: The findings of this study indicated that all workers should be educated about the significance of social distancing and follow the recommendations regardless of their level of contact with clients., (© 2024. The article presents comparative analysis of demographic, social and professional characteristics of general practitioners and district therapists in state and private medical organizations. Sociological, statistical and analytical research methods were applied. The study was carried out on the basis of polyclinics of both Moscow Health Department and Moscow private health care sector. The sampling consisted of 399 questionnaires subjected to statistical processing. It is established that in state and private medical organizations, in this group of physicians prevail women 36-55 years old, born in the Russian Federation, in Moscow, married, having children and assessing one's income level as average. Most of them received their higher education in Moscow, graduated residency in therapy and have no medical category or academic degree. The professional experience consists 10 years or more. All physicians in state polyclinics hold more than one position and in private polyclinics 8.6% of physicians are underemployment. In the state sector, paternalistic model of communication with patient is preferable, in the private sector - a collegiate one. In the state sector, the collegiate management style of CEO is convenient and in the private sector - collegiate or dynamic one. In both sectors, adhocratic organizational culture is comfortable. Against the background of readiness to proceed working in current conditions, work in another sector is not excluded. The material factor is considered as main driver of professional motivation. The social, demographic and professional characteristics of general practitioners and district physicians in both sectors of health care in the main are similar, but have their own characteristics.

Introduction: Microbial keratitis poses a significant threat to vision and is a common ocular infection. Its causative agents encompass a wide spectrum, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. The microbiological profile of microbial keratitis is influenced by factors such as patient demographics, geographical location, climate, and occupational hazards and evolves over time., Methodology: Corneal scrapings were collected from 75 patients with a provisional diagnosis of microbial keratitis. The samples were processed in the microbiology laboratory, and the bacterial and fungal growth isolated in the study were identified according to standard procedures., Results: Among the 75 patients, 48 (64%) were male and 27 (36%) were female. Corneal ulceration was found in individuals of all age groups, with the highest prevalence of 77.33% (58/75) observed in the 21-60 age range. Farmers exhibited a higher susceptibility, constituting 66.67% (50/75) of the cases. The study noted a higher occurrence of keratitis from November to February, accounting for 69.33% (52/75). Microbial etiology was identified in 25.33% (19/75) of scrapings, with fungi accounting for 68.42% (13/19) and bacteria for 31.57% (6/19). The prevalent fungal species included Fusarium (7/13, 53.84%),  Aspergillus  (3/13, 23.07%),  Colletotrichum  (2/13, 15.38%), and  Curvularia  ​​​​​​​(1/13, 7.69%). Bacterial isolates featured  Streptococcus pneumoniae  (5/6, 83.33%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (1/6, 16.66%)., Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of regularly updating local microbial profiles and understanding antimicrobial resistance patterns. Background Voice disorders (VD) pose significant challenges for teachers as they impact their professional and personal lives. Teaching requires extensive use of the voice, making teachers particularly susceptible to vocal health issues. VD can hinder the quality of education. Objectives This study aimed to comprehensively explore the prevalence, associated factors, and impact of VD among teachers and their health-seeking behavior regarding VD. Methodology A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in Taif City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), between November and December 2023. The data were collected through a questionnaire covering demographic variables, occupational factors, voice-related symptoms, associated health conditions, and the impact of VD. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics version 26 (IBM Corp. Released 2019. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 26.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.), and chi-squared tests were used to assess associations. Results The study involved 568 teachers, 61.8% of whom had VD. The study identified significant associations between VD and demographic characteristics, habits, and teaching-related variables. Age, gender, teaching subject, class size, and weekly teaching load were associated with the prevalence of VD. Hoarseness, throat pain, and throat dryness were prevalent symptoms among teachers with VD. The impact of VD on teachers was evident, with a considerable proportion reporting work absenteeism (28.7%) and even contemplating retirement due to voice problems (6.3%). Conclusion This study offers a nuanced understanding of VD among teachers in the Taif region, emphasizing the complex interplay of demographic, symptomatic, and behavioral factors. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions, including awareness campaigns, preventive strategies, and streamlined healthcare access, to address the unique challenges that different subgroups of teachers face. Even though it is already known that parents of children with developmental delays or disabilities experience higher parenting stress than families of typically developing children, the contributing factors need to be analyzed in more detail. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine the influence of demographic characteristics on parenting stress from caring for a disabled child and to identify possible protective or additional stressful social factors. A total of 611 mothers and fathers of children with developmental delays, chronic diseases, or disabilities completed two questionnaires during their medical appointments at the Children's Development Center (CDC) of Leipzig University Hospital between June 2020 and February 2021. These consisted of the German versions of the Parenting Stress Index (PSI) and the Impact on Family Scale (IOFS). To determine differences between the various groups, we used parametric and non-parametric tests. Mothers and single parents are significantly more strained than fathers and non-single parents. Parents with vocational training, those who graduated with a higher-level diploma, and those within employment report a higher financial burden. While unemployed and full-time workers experience the lowest stress, parents who work part-time or exclusively take care of their child show higher levels of stress. Looking at the age of the child, parents of children of young primary school age are the most stressed, and those of infants are the least stressed. These findings suggest that mothers and single parents especially should receive more support, and parents need to be provided with more attention during their child's entry into school. Possible limitations and the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed.

Background: In 2020, the highest incidence and mortality from cervical cancer (CC) were detected in low and middle-income countries. CC remains a health problem for women living in them. In Mexico, CC ranks second in cancer incidence and mortality in women. The main characteristics of this population are low income, low educational level, and inadequate medical coverage. The present study characterized the Mexican population by CC, and the sociodemographic variables that impacted overall survival (OS) were identified., Methods: A retrospective study that included a cohort of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of CC at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia between 2003 and 2016. Information was collected on sociodemographic variables related to the disease and OS., Results: Four thousand six hundred thirty-one patients were included. The median age was 51 years, 78.5% were unemployed, 44.4% lived in a rural/suburban area, 50.8% had a partner when collecting this information, and 74.3% were classified as having low socioeconomic status. Age, living in a rural/suburban area, more advanced stages of the disease, and not receiving cancer treatment were associated with lower OS., Conclusion: CC continues to affect mainly women with minimal resources, low educational levels, and living in marginalized areas. These characteristics influence the OS. Background: This study aimed to investigate the demographic and clinical characteristics, types of seizure disorders, and antiepileptic drug usage among individuals with different types of corpus callosum disorders., Methods: A total of 73 individuals were included in the study and divided into three groups based on the type of corpus callosum abnormality: hypoplasia (H), agenesis (A), and dysgenesis (D). Demographic data, including gender and preterm birth, as well as clinical characteristics such as seizure disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), severe developmental delay/intellectual disability, and other brain malformations, were analyzed. The types of seizure disorders and antiepileptic drugs used were also examined., Results: The H group had the highest number of participants (n = 47), followed by the A group (n = 11) and the D group (n = 15). The A group had the highest percentage of males and preterm births, while the D group had the highest percentage of seizure disorders, other brain malformations, and severe developmental delay/intellectual disability. The A group also had the highest percentage of ADHD. Focal seizures were observed in all three groups, with the highest proportion in the A group. Focal impaired awareness seizures (FIAS) were present in all groups, with the highest proportion in the D group. Generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) were observed in all groups, with the highest proportion in the H group. Different types of antiepileptic drugs were used among the groups, with variations in usage rates for each drug., Conclusion: This study provided insights into the demographic and clinical characteristics, seizure disorders, and antiepileptic drug usage among individuals with different types of corpus callosum disorders. Significant differences were found between the groups, indicating the need for tailored management approaches. However, the study has limitations, including a small sample size and a cross-sectional design. Objectives: Understanding the impact of job demands and mental health disorders on individual job performance is crucial to achieving a more productive workforce and should be empirically investigated. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to assess the impact of job demands and mental health disorders on individual job performance among construction workers. In addition, we examined the interaction effect between job demands and some demographic characteristics (income, marital status, experience, and area of residence) on the job performance of construction workers in 2 dimensions., Methods: For this purpose, a new conceptual model and 3 different hypotheses were introduced. A survey was designed and administered to 513 construction workers. Whereas the measurement items regarding demographic characteristics, job demands, and mental health disorders were addressed to construction workers, the last part related to job performance of construction workers was conducted with site managers of the workers to obtain more objective results. A structural equation modeling approach was adopted to assess the validity of the model and to test the hypotheses., Results: The results of this study show that whereas job demands have a significant and high impact on individual job performance, the effect of mental health disorders on job performance is significant at a moderate level. Background: Student mental wellness is a priority in higher education. Animal Assisted Interventions (AAIs') are gaining momentum in universities across North America (Dell et al., 2015)., Aims: This study explored the relationships between AAIs', demographic variables, and perceived momentary stress among university students., Methods: Using a descriptive correlational design, students completed a Perceived Momentary Stress questionnaire that included the Stress Numerical Rating Scale-11 (Stress NRS-11) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to measure perceived stress before and after AAIs'. Background In the past decade, there has been a clear, massive increase in the number of patients undergoing cosmetic procedures in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This study aims to compare the demographic characteristics of patients in Riyadh undergoing cosmetic procedures. Methodology This is an analytical, observational, and cross-sectional study used to seek the public views about cosmetic procedures in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia using the snowball sampling technique. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed electronically among the target population via social media. The questionnaire was pre-tested in a pilot study of 10 individuals to ensure comprehension and ease of administration and to determine the time needed to complete it. The final adjustments were made after the pilot study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics version 25.0 (IBM Corp. Released 2017. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 25.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.). Results In the current study, we were able to collect the data from 600 participants, of whom females represented 527 (87.8%) of the sample. Satisfaction with their current physical appearance (370, 61.7%), financial factors (73, 12.2%), and fear of having the procedure (59, 9.8%) were the main reasons for refusing to undergo cosmetic procedures, while pleasing themselves (432, 72.1%), influence from others who have undergone cosmetic procedures (188, 31.4%), and personal dislike of one's appearance (184, 30.7%) were the main reasons for conducting cosmetic procedures. Firstly, gender showed a significant relationship with having undergone a cosmetic procedure (p-value = 0.018), with 9 (12.3%) of males and 131 (24.9%) of females reporting having undergone such a procedure. Age also played a role, with the 29-39 age group having the highest number of individuals (31.9%) who had undergone a cosmetic procedure. Conclusion This study provides valuable insights into the demographic characteristics, attitudes, and perceptions surrounding cosmetic procedures in Riyadh. The findings highlight the influence of cultural expectations, self-acceptance, social factors, and media on individuals' motivations and decision-making processes. Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have been shown to be carcinogenic, neurotoxic, and endocrine disruptive, so it is important to understand the levels of OPFRs in human body as well as the modes of external exposure. In this study, we investigated the levels of 13 OPFRs and 7 phosphodiester metabolites in paired human blood and urine, as well as the influencing factors (region, age and gender), and studied the relationship between OPFRs and oxidative stress by urinary metabolites. We found that the concentrations of triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) and tris-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP) in the blood of urban populations were higher than those of rural populations, and that younger populations suffered higher TPhP and 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) exposures than older populations. In addition, we found that tris-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tributyl phosphate (TnBP), TPhP and EHDPP exposure induced oxidative stress. Objective: We explored the epidemiological characteristics of suicide attempts and identified suicide trends and associated factors., Methods: This retrospective, cross-sectional, observational, and single-center study included consecutive 412 patients who were admitted to Emergency Department for follow-up and treatment after a suicide attempt between June 2019 and June 2022. We assessed patient demographics, suicidal behavior, previous suicide attempts, psychiatric disorders, drug use, visits to the psychiatry clinic within the past 6 months, the persistence of suicidal ideation, and clinical outcomes., Results: The study population consisted of 259 females (62.86%) and 153 males (37.14%), with a mean age of 29.50±11.51 (range: 13-72) years. Females attempted suicide more often than males, but suicide completion was more common in males. Overall, 79.37% (n=327) of the suicide attempters were aged <40 years and most were 20-29 years old (n=147, 35.68%). Non-fatal suicide attempts were more common in single, unemployed, and poorly educated individuals, but this was not the case for suicide completers. However, there was no significant difference in marital status, education, and occupation among suicide completers. Drug poisoning was the major form of suicide attempt (n=345, 83.74%). Mental disorders, family or relationship conflicts, and separation from a partner were common causes of suicidal ideation. Introduction: The Queensland Basic Paediatric Training Network (QBPTN) is responsible for the selection of candidates into paediatric training in Queensland. The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated interviews to be conducted 'virtually' as virtual Multiple-Mini-Interviews (vMMI). The study aimed to describe the demographic characteristics of candidates applying for selection into paediatric training in Queensland, and to explore their perspectives and experiences with the vMMI selection tool., Methodology: The demographic characteristics of candidates and their vMMI outcomes were collected and analysed with a mixed methods approach. The qualitative component was comprised of seven semi-structured interviews with consenting candidates., Results: Seventy-one shortlisted candidates took part in vMMI and 41 were offered training positions. The demographic characteristics of candidates at various stages of selection were similar. The mean vMMI scores were not statistically different between candidates from the Modified Monash Model 1 (MMM1) location and others [mean (SD): 43.5 (5.1) versus 41.7 (6.7), respectively, p  = 0.26]. However, there was a statistically significant difference ( p value 0.03) between being offered and not offered a training position for candidates from MMM2 and above. The analysis of the semi-structured interviews suggested that candidate experiences of the vMMI were influenced by the quality of the management of the technology used. Flexibility, convenience, and reduced stress were the main factors that influenced candidates' acceptance of vMMI. Perceptions of the vMMI process focused on the need to build rapport and facilitate communication with the interviewers., Discussion: vMMI is a viable alternative to face-to-face (FTF) MMI. The vMMI experience can be improved by facilitating enhanced interviewer training, by making provision for adequate candidate preparation and by having contingency plans in place for unexpected technical challenges. Given government priorities in Australia, the impact of candidates' geographical location on the vMMI outcome for candidates from MMM >1 location needs to be further explored.

Background: Dental caries in young children and adolescents is a public oral health challenge in countries with developing economies and economic transition. This study presents a demographic pattern of dental caries in primary and permanent dentition of 5-, 12-, and 15-year-old Tanzanians based on the 2020 National Oral Health Survey findings., Methods: This is a cross-section study based on data from Tanzania's 5th National Oral Health Survey. Data on dental caries and basic demographics were collected employing World Health Organization Oral Health Survey protocols. Analysis was done using the SPSS computer programme version 23, and proportions and mean dental caries experiences in Decayed extracted filled teeth in primary dentition/Decayed Missing Filled Teeth in permanent dentition were summarised and chi-square statistics and binary logistic regression assessed the differences and determined the association between dental caries and the selected demographic characteristics., Results: The survey included 2187 participants; 42.4% were from rural areas and 50.7% were female. Overall caries prevalence was 17%, specifically 43.2%, 20.5%, and 25.5% amongst 5-, 12- and 15-year-olds, respectively. Decayed teeth components were 98.4%, 89.8%, and 91.4% amongst 5-, 12-, and 15-year-olds, respectively. Overall mean (SD) DMFT amongst 12- and 15-year-olds were 0.40 (0.27) and 0.59 (1.35), respectively. Urban participants had significantly lower odds of dental caries experience (odds ratio, 0.62, 95% confidence interval 0.45-0.84) compared with rural participants, whilst the 15-year-olds had higher odds of dental caries experience than the 12-year-olds., Conclusion: Dental caries prevalence in primary dentition was high. The proportion of decayed teeth components of def/DMFT was the highest compared with that of missing and filled teeth components. Background: The COVID-19 infection was rapidly spreading almost all over the world, and the first case was confirmed on 27th January 2020 by a foreign tourist in Sri Lanka. The first Sri Lankan citizen with COVID-19 was confirmed on 11th March 2020. Soon after the confirmation of the disease, long days of lockdown were imposed in almost all parts of the world, including Sri Lanka, to control the spread of the disease.  Objectives: To determine the demographic characteristics such as age, sex, number of patients, and disease pattern among non-COVID-19 patients admitted to the medical units during the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic and to compare these characteristics with the data before the lockdown., Methods: This was a cross-sectional analytical study. It was conducted at the Teaching Hospital in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. All the non-COVID-19 patients admitted to medical wards and intensive care units (ICU) were included in this study. Patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) and coronary care unit (CCU) were considered ICU admissions in this study. They were studied over a period of one month during lockdown (11th March 2020 to 10th April 2020) and compared with the patients admitted one month prior to the lockdown (11th February 2020 to 10th March 2020)., Results: Totally, 2340 non-COVID-19 patients (52.5% males) were admitted before the lockdown, and 1376 non-COVID-19 patients (56.2% males) were admitted during the lockdown. This reduction in admission is statistically significant (p-value is <0.001, df=3715). Patients admitted to the wards before lockdown were 2283 (97.6%) and during lockdown were 1309 (95.1%). ICU admissions were N=57 (2.4%) before lockdown and N=67 (4.9%) during lockdown. The common age distribution before the lockdown showed that 26.4% were 31-50 and 41.5% were 51-70 years. Similarly, during lockdown, the age distribution disclosed that 28.9% were 31-50 years and 42.9% were 51-70 years. The disease pattern demonstrated that before lockdown, the majority of patients were admitted for routine hemodialysis (13.2%), to get an injection (9.9%), ischemic heart disease (8.4%), chronic kidney disease (7.3%), and viral fever, including dengue (7.2%). Likewise, during lockdown, more patients were admitted for routine hemodialysis (10.7%), viral fever, including dengue (9.3%), ischemic heart disease (8.8%), to get an injection (8.5%), and chronic kidney disease (5.9%).  Conclusion: There was a significant reduction in the number of non-COVID-19-related admissions during the period of lockdown. However, there was not much difference in the proportion of admissions according to gender, age, and disease pattern before and during lockdown. More number of male patients were admitted than female patients. Most of the admitted patients were under the age group of 51-70 years. The highest number of patients were admitted for routine hemodialysis before and during lockdown. However, a slightly higher number of patients were admitted to the ICU during lockdown. Therefore, strengthening the ICU facilities may be an important preparation to accommodate more patients in the future if a similar kind of emergency lockdown occurs in a pandemic situation. In addition, admissions due to non-communicable diseases (NCD) didn't fall in proportion during the pre-COVID-19 period and the lockdown period. Background: Midlife is a time of increased responsibilities for women who have multiple roles including taking care of children, caring for elderly parents, managing households, and working outside the home. With little time for themselves, women additionally experience stressful life events (SLEs). The purpose of this study was to describe the longitudinal patterns of SLEs of women during midlife and to identify predictors of the SLE longitudinal patterns using baseline data of socio-economic factors and demographic characteristics., Methods: Women who were part of the Seattle Midlife Women's Health Study (SMWHS), a longitudinal study spanning more than 23 years, who had SLEs measured at baseline and at years 2, 7, and 10 were included in these analyses (N = 380 women at baseline). The Life Event Scale (LES), a 70-item scale based on a yes/no response and a Likert-based scoring system with 0 (no effect) to 4 (large effect), was used to determine the total and impact scores of midlife women. The LES was adapted to midlife women from the Norbeck Scale for younger, pregnant women. Analytic strategies consisted of a group-based trajectory model (GBTM) to examine subgroups of women with similar exposure to SLEs using socio-economic factors (gross family income, education, race/ethnicity, employment), demographic variables (age, marital status, being a parent), and menopausal transition stage to differentiate trajectories over time., Results: Approximately 86% of women had medium high exposure to undesirable SLEs with a slight decrease (65.5%), or a sharp decrease (20.1%), over 10 years. The majority (approximately 64%) had moderate, sustained impact ratings, while approximately 35% had impact ratings that decreased over time. Most women (approximately 88%) reported desirable life events, which were sustained over the ten years, and which may help to balance or offset the high ratings of undesirable stressful life events. The rated impact of these desirable events decreased slightly over time for 65% of the sample. Socio-economic factors, demographic variables, and menopausal transition stages were not significant predictors of any of the four GBTMs., Conclusion: Midlife women experience SLEs throughout the menopausal transition. Most of these midlife women had had a large amount of sustained stress over 10 years although all trajectories decreased to some extent over time. Since the menopausal transition stages were not significant predictors of the ratings of SLEs, a more complex set of factors, including social as well as biological, may explain the ratings of the women over the course of this ten-year observational study., (© 2023. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignant tumor in the world. The morbidity and mortality rates in Western countries have decreased, but they are still on the rise in China. C10orf90 is associated with a variety of cancers, but the correlation between C10orf90 and CRC is not yet known., Methods: A total of 1,339 subjects were randomly enrolled in our study. After extracting their DNA, three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of C10orf90 were genotyped to analyze the potential relationship between these variants and CRC risk. PLINK software packages (version 1.07) were used to evaluate multiple genetic models by calculating the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). The best SNP-SNP interaction model was defined by the multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) analysis., Results: C10orf90 rs12412320 was significantly associated with CRC risk ( p = 0.006) and might be associated with the lower CRC risk (OR: 0.78; 95% CI: 0.65-0.93). The relationship of rs12412320 with lower CRC risk was found in people aged >60 years and ≤60 years, women, non-smokers, or non-drinkers. Rs11245008 in people aged ≤60 years and rs11245007 among men had a higher CRC susceptibility. Rs12412320 was related to the lower risk of advanced stages (III/IV stage), while rs11245007 might be associated with the higher risk of advanced stages (III/IV stage). Introduction: Treatment failure and relapse rates are more likely to occur when there is isoniazid (INH) resistance. So, we can no longer ignore the problem of isoniazid mono-resistance. It is pertinent to control the spread of primary INH resistance and prevent secondary resistance., Aim: This study aims to evaluate subjects' clinical, demographic, and genetic characteristics and explore their treatment outcomes., Methods: All data of isoniazid mono-resistant tuberculosis (TB) patients, which were maintained in the electronic database of mandatory notifications (NIKSHAY Portal) between 2017 and 2022, were reviewed. A total of 54 patients were included after excluding five patients with ongoing treatment., Results: Of 54 patients, 41 (75.9%) were cured, which was classified under favorable outcome, and the rest were classified under unfavorable outcome. Phenotypic, high-level mutation ( katG ) was found in 48 (88.9%) patients. Kaplan-Meier curves show that survival probabilities increase in weeks with regular intake of drugs., Conclusion: Our study found that those with younger ages and males were more affected. The association of food safety knowledge and climate with gender, education level, length of employment, food safety training, and professional role was measured using a 15-item food safety climate survey and a 20-item food safety questionnaire on a sample of 263 employees from 19 small and medium-sized university canteens in Croatia, Hungary, and Portugal. The relationship between knowledge and climate and the demographic determinants of both variables were examined. Food safety knowledge was inadequate (45.5% of correct responses), while perceptions of food safety, as measured by the food safety climate survey, were positive (2.69 out of a maximum of 3.00). The perception of resources in canteens was the least favorable across all countries. Leaders did not exhibit better food safety knowledge or perceptions. Food safety climate and knowledge were significantly positively correlated and influenced by training. Perceptions of food safety compared to employee knowledge levels indicated that some employees were overly optimistic about food safety risks. Background and Aims: Hypertension is a public health concern, mainly in resource-limited countries. We investigated the characteristics and risk factors related to high blood pressure in healthy blood donors from, Luanda, the capital city of Angola., Methods: This was a retrospective study that included 343 healthy donors from December 2019 to September 2020., Results: The mean age was 32 ± 9 years. Men represented 93% of the population. Mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 131 ± 12.3 mmHg (ranging from 100 to 160 mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was 80.1 ± 9.72 mmHg (from 56.0 to 100 mmHg). DBP was related to age and gender ( p  < 0.05). About 7.3% of the donors had high-pressure (>140/90 mmHg). Age between 20 and 40 years (odds ratio [OR]: 2.52, p  = 0.043), women (OR: 1.87, p  = 0.548), nonurbanized areas (OR: 0.39, p  = 0.067), high educational level (OR: 0.76, p  = 0.637), employed (OR: 0.49, p  = 0.491), voluntary donors (OR: 0.87, p  = 0.799), blood group B (OR: 2.06, p  = 0.346), and Rh- (OR: 0.26, p  = 0.104), were potentially related with high-pressure. The high-pressure cases increased from December 2019 (4%) to September 2020 (28%) ( p  = 0.019)., Conclusion: We showed high pressure among the healthy blood donors population. Demographic characteristics, ABO/Rh blood group, and year period are features that should be considered in cardiovascular disease control strategies. Purpose: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine and assess the basic demographic characteristics and prevalence of comorbidities in acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) and its various subtypes., Patients and Methods: A literature search was conducted by using the databases PubMed, EMBASE, and Google Scholar (to June 1, 2022). Random-effects or fixed-effects models were selected to pool means and proportions and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI), based on heterogeneity between studies. The results of meta-analyses for basic demographic characteristics and prevalence (proportions) of each specific comorbidities of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) and its various subtypes were described., Results: Ninety-nine studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 17,103 patients with AMI. Furthermore, 7941 patients with subclass diagnoses of AMI were identified, including 3,239 patients with arterial occlusive mesenteric ischemia (AOMI), 2,977 patients with nonocclusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI), and 1,725 patients with mesenteric venous thrombosis (MVT). As a surgical emergency, AMI is associated with older patients and a high likelihood of multisystem comorbidities. Comorbidities of AMI involved multiple systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, endocrine and metabolic diseases, kidney diseases, digestive diseases, respiratory diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, vascular diseases, and cancer., Conclusion: The basic demographic characteristics and the prevalence of comorbidities of different subtypes of AMI are different. The management of comorbidities should be an essential part of improving the prognosis of AMI patients and may contribute to precise prevention of AMI.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, family members have spent more time together at home. This study introduces the concept of "family distancing"-the efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus to family members. We explore which demographic characteristics are associated with family distancing efforts and how the family distancing efforts are associated with family conflicts. Survey data were collected from adults ( N = 324, M = 37 years; SD = 10.5 years; 65.1% female) in Korea. We found that gender, education, marital status, physical health status, and number of family members who live together were significantly associated with family distancing efforts. In addition, lower compliance with the request for family distancing was significantly associated with a higher degree of negative emotions (i.e., anger), which in turn was associated with more family conflict. Although mobile health (m-health) has great potential to reduce the cost of medical care and improve its quality and efficiency, it is not widely accepted by consumers. In addition, there is still a lack of comprehensive insight into m-health acceptance, especially among consumers with different demographic characteristics. This study aimed to explore the factors affecting consumers' acceptance and usage behaviors of m-health and to examine whether their roles differ by demographic characteristics. A comprehensive m-health acceptance model was proposed by integrating factors from the Self-Determination Theory, Task-Technology Fit, and Technology Acceptance Model. Survey data were collected from 623 Chinese adults with at least 6 months of m-health usage experience and analyzed using structural equation modeling techniques. Multi-group analyses were performed to assess whether the model relationships were different across gender, age, and usage experience. The results indicated that relatedness and competence were significant motivational antecedents of perceived ease of use. Task-technology fit and the perceived ease of use significantly affected the perceived usefulness. The perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness were significant determinants of consumer usage behaviors of m-health and together explained 81% of its variance. Moreover, the relationships among autonomy, perceived usefulness, and usage behaviors of m-health were moderated by gender. Consumer usage behaviors of m-health were affected by factors such as self-motivation (i.e., relatedness and competence), technology perceptions (i.e., perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness), and task-technology fit. These findings provide a theoretical underpinning for future research on m-health acceptance and provide empirical evidence for practitioners to promote the better design and use of m-health for healthcare activities.

Background: The research on e-sports mainly concerns the relationship between game playing behavior and Internet addiction, especially among college students. It remained a question of how college students' e-sports playing was associated with their lifestyle behaviors and psychological well-being in China., Objectives: Our study aimed to explore whether collegiate e-sports players' e-sports participation behaviors differ across demographic backgrounds and how their e-sports playing relates to their lifestyle behaviors and psychological well-being., Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 1441 collegiate e-sports players in China. The demographic characteristics of collegiate e-sports players were explored. The Bivariate Person correlation, linear and Tobit regression analyses were used to examine how students' e-sports playing was related to their lifestyle behaviors (i.e., sleep quality and physical activity) and psychological well-being (mobile phone addiction, online game addiction, satisfaction with life, and perceived stress)., Results: The results of independent t-test and ANOVA analyses revealed that students from different grades, majors, family residences, and family structures differed in their e-sports participation behaviors. The results of linear regression and Tobit regression analyses also revealed that students' e-sports participation behaviors were related to their lifestyle behaviors and psychological well-being, except for sleep quality and mobile phone addiction. It is noteworthy that the length of time in playing e-sports and e-sports consumption was related to different lifestyle behaviors and psychological well-being., Conclusion: The findings demonstrated that e-sports playing had penetrated college students' daily life. Online surveys are a popular tool in sex research and it is vital to understand participation bias in these surveys to improve inferences. However, research on this topic is limited and out of date given the increase in online survey methodology and changes in sexual attitudes. This study examined whether demographics and sexual abuse and assault history predict opting into online survey questions about sex. The sample was recruited for a longitudinal mental health study using a probability-based sampling panel developed to represent the US household population. Participants were masked to the inclusion of sexual content and given a choice to opt into sex questions. Analyses were run on raw and weighted responses to adjust for sampling bias. Of the total sample (n = 476, 62.6% female), 69% opted into sex questions. Raw analysis showed that participants were more likely to be younger, have higher education and income, and have a history of sexual abuse or assault. No racial, gender, relationship status, or regional differences were found. After weighting, effect sizes were reduced for most predictor variables, and only a history of sexual abuse or assault still significantly predicted participation. Results suggest that key demographic features do not have a strong association with participation in sex survey questions. Reasons for participation bias stemming from sexual abuse or assault history should be examined further. Objective: To evaluate the cardiovascular health status of Chinese adults and explore the related influencing factors., Methods: Adults aged 20-59 from the China Health and Nutrition Survey covering 15 provinces and cities in 2018 were selected as the study subjects. The average score of 8 health factors was calculated using the definition of the "Life&apos;s Essential 8" for cardiovascular health released by the American Heart Association in 2022. Cardiovascular health was classified according to the score. Multinomial logit model was used to analyze the impact of demographic characteristics on cardiovascular health., Results: A total of 5977 subjects were included in this study. The total score of cardiovascular health was 73.62. The single factor analysis showed that sleep and physical activity scored higher(91.69 and 87.39, respectively), while blood pressure and diet scored lower(58.88 and 44.16, respectively). Clustering analysis found that only 0.45% of the people with full score of all eight indicators, The average number of full score indicators was 4.22, and the full score indicators were more among 20-44, female, college or above, and urban residents. In addition, the number of people with high, moderate and poor cardiovascular health status were 35.70%, 59.58% and 4.72%, respectively. Multinomial logit analysis showed that compared with low cardiovascular health status, the people with high in 45-59 were 66%(95% CI 0.25-0.45) lower than those in 20-44. Women with moderate and high were 9.93(95%CI 6.44-15.33) and 41.82(95% CI 26.87-65.08) times higher than men, respectively. The moderate cardiovascular health of the people with middle income was 1.47(95% CI 1.07-2.01) times higher than those with low income. People in the south with moderate and high were 31%(95% CI 0.53-0.91) and 38%(95% CI 0.46-0.82) lower than those in the north, respectively., Conclusion: Adults in our country were in the moderate cardiovascular health. People aged 20-44, female, people with higher income and living in the north had better cardiovascular health.

Objective: To understand the characteristics of genetic mutation in multiple primary lung cancer so as to guide clinical decisions in targeted therapy., Methods: We analyzed a total of 265 tumors from 111 patients who underwent surgery for multiple lung cancers. Individual tumors were subjected to histological evaluation and gene mutation analysis using ABI 7500 Fluorescence quantitative PCR., Results: In this study, we analyzed demographic and clinical parameters such as age, gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, pathological type, number of nodules, and other details of 111 patients with early multiple primary lung cancer. We also compared the clinicopathologic characteristics of different populations based on the gene mutation status of pulmonary nodules. Subsequently, we performed a clinicopathological analysis of all 265 pulmonary nodules from these patients. Results showed significant differences in clinicopathological features of pulmonary nodules in different genetic mutations., Conclusion: This study revealed the gene mutation characteristics and clinicopathological features in early multiple primary lung cancer. We found that the gene mutation status between different nodules in patients with early multiple primary lung cancer was inconsistent in most cases. Therefore, the use of targeted therapy based on the genetic sequencing of only one nodule, is unreliable. Background: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been affecting people globally, and the Philippines is one of the countries greatly struck by the virus. The continued rise of new positive cases has drawn attention to the urgent need for healthcare management to cope with this challenge. Severity prediction could help improve medical decision-making and optimise the patient's treatment plan with a good clinical outcome. This study aimed to identify the determinants of COVID-19 disease severity., Methods: Demographic characteristics and laboratory findings were collected from electronic medical records and paper forms of all confirmed COVID-19 cases reported by the University of Perpetual Help DALTA Medical Center between the September 1, 2020 and the October 31, 2021. We performed statistical analyses and interpretation of data to compare severe and non-severe groups., Results: 5,396 confirmed cases were examined. Most of the severe cases were elderly, male, had blood type A, and with comorbidities. Cycle threshold (Ct) values were lower in the severe group. Most patients had higher-than-normal levels of all blood parameters except platelet, white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts. Age, sex, ABO blood groups, comorbidities, open reading frame 1 ab (ORF1ab) and nucleocapsid (N) gene Ct values, ferritin, C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), D-dimer, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil count, and lymphocyte count were significantly associated with disease severity. In multivariate analysis, age groups >60 and 30-59 years, presence of comorbidities, CRP level >5 ng/mL, and PCT >0.05 ng/mL were identified as disease severity predictors., Conclusions: Based on our results, age, comorbidities, CRP, and PCT level may be utilised as primary assessment factors for possible hospital admission and close monitoring upon testing. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with chronic bronchitis among patients seeking medical attention for respiratory conditions in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf city, Iraq. The study employed a case-control design and recruited 134 participants using convenient sampling. Data was collected using a questionnaire consisting of four parts which included demographic characteristics, individual factors, family history, and seasonal, environmental, and nutritional factors. The majority of participants were males aged between 21 and 35 years, with 71.8% of the study group residing in rural areas and 66.3% of the control group living in urban areas. We found that asthma was the most prevalent associated disease among chronic bronchitis patients, with 64.1% reporting it. The risk factors associated with chronic bronchitis were residency, smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke, respiratory sensitivity, dust sensitivity, spring sensitivity, hay fever, asthma, pulmonary obstruction, pneumonia, pertussis, and family history. The study highlights the need for smoking cessation, physical fitness, and healthy eating habits to prevent chronic bronchitis. Background: Nursing is a high-risk profession and nurses' exposure to workplace risk factors such as heavy workloads and inadequate staffing is well documented. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated nurses' exposure to workplace risk factors, further deteriorating their mental health. Therefore, it is both timely and important to determine nursing groups in greatest need of mental health interventions and supports., Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a granular examination of the differences in nurse mental health across nurse demographic and workplace characteristics before and after COVID-19 was declared a pandemic., Methods: This secondary analysis used survey data from two cross-sectional studies with samples (Time 1 study, 5,512 nurses; Time 2, 4,523) recruited from the nursing membership (∼48,000) of the British Columbia nurses' union. Data was analyzed at each timepoint using descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression., Results: Several demographic and workplace characteristics were found to predict significant differences in the number of positive screenings on measures of poor mental health. Most importantly, in both survey times younger age was a strong predictor of worse mental health, as was full-time employment. Nurse workplace health authority was also a significant predictor of worse mental health., Conclusions: Structural and psychological strategies must be in place, proactively and preventively, to buffer nurses against workplace challenges that are likely to increase during the COVID-19 crisis.

Background: Local epidemiological data are necessary to identify the disease hot spots and running screening programs. In this study, we evaluated the demographic characteristics of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in a tertiary referral hospital in Iran., Methods: In a retrospective study, the medical profiles of 137 DDH children, who were referred to our university hospital between 2014 and 2020, were reviewed for characteristics such as gender, place of birth, age at the diagnosis, gestational age (term or preterm), twin or single birth, mother's age, pregnancy number, breech presentation, associated deformity, family history of DDH, et cetera., Results: The study population included 24 (17.5%) boys and 113 (82.5%) girls with a mean age of 2.3 ± 2 years. In the majority of cases (54.2%), it was the firstborn. Twin delivery was seen in only 5 (4.1%) cases. The associated deformity was noticed in 17 (12.4%) patients. Clubfoot was the most commonly associated deformity that was seen in 6 of 17 (35.3%) patients. A family history of DDH was recorded in 12 (8.8%) patients. The breech presentation was recorded in 19 (13.9%) patients. The mean age of the mother at the delivery was 27.2 ± 6.1 years. Tehran, Lorestan, Kurdistan, and Khuzestan provinces had the most referrals., Conclusion: DDH is associated with the female sex, positive family history, breech presentation at delivery, clubfoot deformity, and geographic district. Although low-frequency noise (LFN) is associated with various complaints, there is still much unknown about this phenomenon. This research aims to provide an extensive description of (1) LFN perceptions, (2) LFN-related complaints, and (3) the characteristics of LFN complainants. In an explorative observational cross-sectional survey study, a sample of Dutch adults reporting to experience LFN (n = 190) and a group not experiencing LFN (n = 371) completed a comprehensive questionnaire. Descriptions of LFN perceptions varied individually and were dependent on different circumstances, although some common patterns were observed. Complaints were wide-ranging and individual, with a reported high impact on daily living. Common complaints included sleeping difficulties, fatigue, or annoyance. Societal consequences were described regarding housing, work, and relationships. Attempts to stop or escape the perception were manifold but often unsuccessful. The LFN sample differed regarding sex, education level, and age from the Dutch adult population, indicating more frequent inability to work, less full-time work, and less years lived in their homes. No further differences in occupational or marital status or living circumstances were found. Although this research supports some previous findings and identifies common patterns, it also highlights the individual nature of LFN-related experiences and the heterogeneity of this group. It is advised to pay attention to the complaints of affected individuals, to inform concerned authorities, and to conduct more systematic and multidisciplinary research using standardized and validated measuring instruments.
