Due to the outbreak of global public health emergency, antibacterial fabrics such as face masks are in great demand. However, common antibacterial fabrics cannot kill bacteria in minutes and they are easy to be contaminated and lost biological activity. In this work, omnipotent antibacterial cotton fabrics with superhydrophobic and photothermal properties are developed by the combination of dopamine with copper sulfide (CuS) and silver nanoparticles on cotton fabrics, and post-modification with PDMS. The prepared PDA/CuS/Ag/PDMS composite fabrics were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, EDS, ATR-FTIR and water contact angle. The photothermal antimicrobial properties of the fabrics were evaluated with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coil) under near-infrared light (NIR) illumination or not. The results showed that the obtained superhydrophobic PDA/CuS/Ag/PDMS composite fabrics had excellent water repellence and self-cleaning effect. Herein, copper sulfide (CuS) was introduced to the Fenton-like (Fe(III)/H 2 O 2 ) system for the efficient removal of phenylarsonic acid (PAA). Results of reactive oxygen and Fe/Cu species showed that CuS preferentially reacted with Fe(III) and H 2 O 2 to generate Cu(I) and superoxide anion (•O 2 ). These reductive species could efficiently promote the Fe(III)/Fe(II) and Cu(II)/Cu(I) cycles, and are beneficial to the sequential Fenton reaction to generate •OH. The organoic/inorganic arsenic species detected in the CuS/Fe(III)/H - ). Using electrocatalytic water reduction to produce hydrogen fuel offers significant potential for clean energy, yet its large-scale adoption depends on developing cost-effective, non-precious, and efficient catalysts to replace expensive Pt-based state-of-the-art HER catalysts. The catalytic HER performance of an active catalyst largely depends on the available catalytic active sites, conductivity, and intrinsic electrochemical kinetics, all of which can be altered by incorporating a heteroatom into the active catalyst structure. Herein, we synthesized a unique nitrogen-doped CuO@CuS (NCOS) core-shell-structured catalyst through a facile hydrothermal process followed by an efficacious nitrogenation process, and its electrochemical performance for the HER was systematically analyzed. The NCOS core-shell-structured catalyst exhibits a reduced overpotential (55 mV) and Tafel slope (107 mV dec -1 ) compared to the pure CuS (CS; 179 mV and 201 mV dec -1 ) catalyst at a current density of 10 mA cm -2 . Moreover, the NCOS core-shell-structured catalyst demonstrates excellent endurance for up to 50 h of chronopotentiometric testing at a driving current density rate of 10 and 100 mA cm -2 . This excellent catalytic HER activity is a result of an increased electron transfer rate and a greater number of accessible active sites, attributed to a change in structural properties and the high electronic conductivity aroused from nitrogen incorporation, as evidenced from the TOF and EIS curve analyses.

Morphine, as one of the most important narcotic drugs, significantly affects the nervous system and increases euphoria, which raises the likelihood of its misuse. Therefore, its measurement is of great importance. In this work, a new electrochemical sensor based on a nanocomposite of CuS/g-C 3 N 5 /AgNPs was developed for modifying Screen printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) and used for the measurement of morphine through cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. Various analytical methods initially characterized the nanocomposite. The prepared sensor, which also has an extensive surface area, achieved a detection limit of 0.01 µM for morphine in a concentration range of 0.05-100 µM at pH 7. Besides its excellent capability in measuring morphine in real samples, the sensor exhibits good stability, reproducibility, and repeatability. The presence of CuS, due to its excellent high surface area alongside silver nanoparticles, leads to an increase in the conductivity of the g-C 3 N 5 modified electrode, resulting in an increased oxidative current of morphine at the surface of the prepared sensor. Therefore, measuring low concentrations of morphine with this sensor was made possible. Additionally, measuring morphine without interference from various species is a strong point of the electrochemical sensor for morphine detection, and combined with the simplicity and ease of the method, it allows for morphine measurements to be conducted in the shortest possible time., (© 2024. Background: Randomized controlled trials suggest that prophylactic doses of anticoagulants effectively prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized medical patients with high thromboembolic risk. However, no prospective studies exist regarding the real-world prevalence of prophylactic anticoagulant use. This prospective study aimed to determine the rate and predictors of thromboprophylaxis in an unselected population of patients hospitalized in medical departments., Methods: We conducted a multicenter prospective observational study (AURELIO - rAte of venous thrombosis in acutely iLl patIents hOspitalized) to assess the rate of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in unselected acutely ill patients hospitalized in medical wards using compression ultrasound (CUS) at admission and discharge. Additionally, we evaluated the rate of pharmacological thromboprophylaxis administration in this population and analyzed the thrombotic risk by assessing RAMs (Risk Assessment Models) such as the IMPROVE-VTE and PADUA scores following the clinician's decision to administer thromboprophylaxis. Patients with IMPROVE-VTE scores ≥3 and/or PADUA scores ≥4 were classified as high thrombotic risk; those with IMPROVE-VTE scores <3 and/or PADUA scores <4 were classified as low risk., Results: We recruited 2371 patients (1233 males [52 %] and 1138 females [48 %]; mean age 72 ± 16 years). The median length of hospitalization was 13 ± 12 days. Overall, 442/2371 (18.6 %) patients received prophylactic parenteral anticoagulants (subcutaneous low weight molecular heparin or fondaparinux once daily) at admission. Assessing the thrombotic risk of the population recruited 1016 (42.9 %) patients were classified as high risk and 1354 (57.1 %) were low risk. Among high-risk patients, 339/1016 (33.4 %) received anticoagulant prophylaxis compared to 103/1354 (7.6 %) low-risk patients. During hospitalization, 9 patients developed DVT, comprising 7 asymptomatic and 2 symptomatic cases of proximal DVT. Of these, 3 patients were on anticoagulant prophylaxis, while 6 were not. Among the high-risk population, 7 out of 1016 patients (0.7 %) experienced proximal DVT during hospitalization, with 2 out of these 7 (28 %) receiving anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis. In the low-risk population, 2 out of 1354 patients (0.2 %) developed DVT, with 1 out of these 2 (50 %) receiving anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis. Age, heart or respiratory failure, pneumonia, active neoplasia, previous VTE, reduced mobility, and absence of kidney failure were more frequent in patients receiving prophylaxis. Multivariable logistic regression identified age (RR 1.010; CI 95 % 1002-1019; p = 0.015), heart/respiratory failure (RR 1.609; CI 95 % 1248-2075; p < 0.0001), active neoplasia (RR 2.041; CI 95 % 1222-2141; p < 0.0001), pneumonia (RR 1.618; CI 95 % 1557-2676; p < 0.0001), previous VTE (RR 1.954; CI 95 % 1222-3125; p < 0.0001), and reduced mobility (RR 4.674; CI 95 % 3700-5905; p < 0.0001) as independent predictors of thromboprophylaxis., Conclusions: This study, conducted without pre-established thromboembolic risk scores, offers a comprehensive view of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in medical patients with acute conditions hospitalized in internal medicine departments. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a significant threat to human health. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have proven to be an effective strategy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, given their capacity to swiftly disrupt microorganism membranes and alter cell morphology. A common limitation, however, lies in the inherent toxicity of many AMPs and their vulnerability to protease degradation within the body. Photothermal therapy (PTT) stands out as a widely utilized approach in combating antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, boasting high efficiency and non-invasive benefits. To enhance the stability and antibacterial efficacy of AMPs, a novel approach involving the combination of AMPs and PTT has been proposed. This study focuses on the encapsulation of At10 (an AMP designed by our group), and copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) within zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) to form nanocomposites (At10/CuS@ZIF-8). The encapsulated CuS NPs exhibit notable photothermal properties upon exposure to near-infrared radiation. This induces the cleavage of ZIF-8, facilitating the release of At10, which effectively targets bacterial membranes to exert its antibacterial effects. Bacteria treated with At10/CuS@ZIF-8 under light radiation exhibited not only membrane folding and intracellular matrix outflow but also bacterial fracture. Utilizing inexhaustible solar energy for water purification represents a green and sustainable solution to water scarcity. However, the developments of efficient, inexpensive, convenient and reliable photothermal materials remain a major challenge. Herein, a facile and versatile preparation strategy of sodium alginate (SA)-CuS composite coating with superior adhesion and stability has been proposed toward high-efficiency solar-driven interfacial evaporation. The fabrication process can be quickly completed in aqueous solution with cheap reagents. The SA-CuS coating can be firmly adhered on different substrates, which can withstand rinsing treatment, iterative freeze-thaw cycles as well as high and low pH environments. The SA-CuS coating can convert various substrates into photothermal materials with broad light absorption for desirable solar evaporation because of high CuS loading and rough surface. Designing hydrogel dressing with intrinsic antibacterial property to promote skin injury recovery remains a significant challenge. In this research, poly(aspartic hydrazide) with grafted betaine (PAHB) was designed and reacted with oxidized dextran (OD) to fabricate biodegradable PAHB/OD hydrogel and its application as wound dressing was systematically investigated. The PAHB/OD hydrogels exhibited fast gelation, strong tissue adhesion, preferable mechanical properties and biocompatibility. The grafted betaine endowed the hydrogel with antibacterial property and antibacterial rate enhanced through photothermal performance of composited CuS nanoparticles under near infrared (NIR) radiation. The CuS composited PAHB/OD hydrogel (CuS/hydrogel) with microporous morphology was used as burn wound dressing with loaded anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac sodium (DS) in mouse model. The results showed the DS loaded CuS/hydrogel (CuS@DS/hydrogel) promoted the tissue regeneration and suppressed the inflammatory response. The histological analysis and immunohistochemical expression confirmed the CuS@DS/hydrogel promote angiogenesis of the burn wound by regulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and CD68) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Photocatalytic CO 2 reduction serves as an important technology for value-added solar fuel production, however, it is generally limited by interfacial charge transport. To address this limitation, a two-dimensional/two-dimensional (2D/2D) p-n heterojunction CuS-Bi 2 WO 6 (CS-BWO) with highly connected and matched interfacial lattices was designed in this work via a two-step hydrothermal tandem synthesis strategy. The integration of CuS with BWO created a robust interface electric field and provided fast charge transfer channels due to the work function difference, as well as highly connected and matched interfacial lattices. The p-n heterojunction combination promoted the electron transfer from the Cu to Bi sites, leading to the coordination of Bi sites with high electronic density and low oxidation state. The Bi sites in the BWO nanosheets facilitated the adsorption and activation of CO 2 , and the generation of high-coverage key intermediate b-CO 3 , while CuS (CS) acted as a broad light-harvesting material to provide abundant photoinduced electrons that were injected into the conduction band of BWO for CO 2- , while CuS (CS) acted as a broad light-harvesting material to provide abundant photoinduced electrons that were injected into the conduction band of BWO for CO 2 photoreduction reaction. Remarkably, the p-n heterojunction CS-BWO exhibited average CO and CH 4 yields of 33.9 and 16.4 μmol g -1  h -1 , respectively, which were significantly higher than those of CS, BWO, and physical mixture CS-BWO samples. Chronic stress caused by prolonged emotional pressure can lead to various physiological issues, including reproductive dysfunction. Although reproductive problems can also induce chronic stress, the impact of chronic stress-induced reproductive dysfunction remains contentious. This study investigates the effects of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) on reproductive neuropeptides, sperm quality, and testicular morphology. Sixteen twelve-week-old Sprague Dawley rats were divided into two groups: a non-stress control group and a CUS-induced group. The CUS regimen involved various stressors over 28 days, with both groups undergoing behavioural assessments through sucrose-preference and forced-swim tests. Hypothalamic gene expression levels of CRH, PNX, GPR173, kisspeptin, GnRH, GnIH, and spexin neuropeptides were measured via qPCR, while plasma cortisol, luteinizing hormone (LH), and testosterone concentrations were quantified using ELISA. Seminal fluid and testis samples were collected for sperm analysis and histopathological evaluation, respectively. Results showed altered behaviours in CUS-induced rats, reflecting stress impacts. Hypothalamic corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) expression and plasma cortisol levels were significantly higher in CUS-induced rats compared to controls (p < 0.05). Conversely, phoenixin (PNX) expression decreased in the CUS group (p < 0.05), while kisspeptin, spexin, and gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone (GnIH) levels showed no significant differences between groups. Despite a significant increase in GnRH expression (p < 0.05), plasma LH and testosterone concentrations were significantly lower (p < 0.05) in CUS-induced rats. Histopathological analysis revealed abnormal testis morphology in CUS-induced rats, including disrupted architecture, visible interstitial spaces between seminiferous tubules, and absence of spermatogenesis. In conclusion, CUS affects reproductive function by modulating PNX and GnRH expression, influencing cortisol levels, and subsequently reducing plasma LH and testosterone concentrations. In recent years, aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have emerged as a prominent research topic due to their inherent safety attributes, relatively low cost, and comparatively higher energy density. However, the challenges associated with the zinc metal anode in the form of dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution, and severe side reactions have proven to be particularly vexing. Thus, it is imperative to investigate novel intercalation-type anode materials for ZIBs that exhibit exceptional structural properties and appropriate redox potentials based on conversion mechanisms. In this work, through adding polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactant to precursors and tailoring reaction time, hierarchical CuS hollow spheres are successfully constructed by a facile one-step hydrothermal process. When applied as an anode in ZIBs, the hollow hierarchical CuS with large surface area can effectively reduce the transport distance of electrons and Zn 2+ and alleviate volume expansion during the insertion/extraction of Zn 2+ . The hierarchical CuS hollow spheres prepared over 8 h (CuS-8) exhibit a specific capacity of 126 mAh/g and long-term cycle life (1500 cycles) at a current density of 3 A/g. Diabetic wounds are prone to recurrent infections, often leading to delayed healing. To address this challenge, we developed a chitin-copper sulfide (CuS@CH) composite sponge, which combines bacterial trapping with near-infrared (NIR) activated phototherapy for treating infected diabetic wounds. CuS nanoparticles were synthesized and incorporated in situ within the sponge using a chitin assisted biomineralization strategy. The positively charged chitin surface effectively adhered bacteria, while NIR irradiation of CuS generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) heat and Cu 2+ to rapidly damage the trapped bacteria. This synergistic effect resulted in an exceptional antibacterial performance against E. coli (∼99.9%) and S. aureus (∼99.3%). The bactericidal mechanism involved NIR-induced glutathione oxidation, membrane lipid peroxidation, and increased membrane permeability. In diabetic mouse models, the CuS@CH sponge accelerated the wound healing of S. aureus infected wounds by facilitating collagen deposition and reducing inflammation. Furthermore, the sponge demonstrated good biocompatibility. This dual-functional platform integrating bacterial capture and NIR-triggered phototherapy shows promise as an antibacterial wound dressing to promote healing of infected diabetic wound.

Copper indium sulfide (CuInS 2 ) exhibits strong visible light absorption and thus has the potential for good photocatalytic activity; however, rapid charge recombination limits its practical usage. An intriguing strategy to overcome this issue is to couple CuInS 2 with another semiconductor to form a heterojunction, which can improve the charge carrier separation and, hence, enhance the photocatalytic activity. In this study, photocatalysts comprising CuInS 2 with a secondary CuS phase (termed CuIn x S y ) and CuIn x S y loaded with ZnS (termed ZnS@CuIn x S y ) were synthesized via a microwave-assisted method. Structural and morphological characterization revealed that the ZnS@CuIn x S y photocatalyst comprised tetragonal CuInS 2 containing a secondary phase of hexagonal CuS, coupled with hexagonal ZnS. The effective band gap energy of CuIn x S y was widened from 2.23 to 2.71 as the ZnS loading increased from 0 to 30%. The coupling of CuIn x S y with ZnS leads to long-lived charge carriers and efficient visible-light harvesting properties, which in turn lead to a remarkably high activity for the photocatalytic degradation of brilliant green (95.6% in 5 h) and conversion of 4-nitrophenol to 4-nitrophenolate ions (95.4% in 5 h). The active species involved in these photocatalytic processes were evaluated using suitable trapping agents. To effectively remove high concentrations of mercury in a high sulfur atmosphere of nonferrous smelting flue gas, a novel two-dimensional CuS-MOF (CuS-BDC-2D) material is synthesized by anchoring S to Cu sites in the Cu-BDC MOF. The highly dispersed CuS active sites and MOF framework structural properties in CuS-BDC-2D enable efficiently collaborate in capturing mercury. CuS-BDC-2D exhibits a layered floral structure with high specific surface area and thermal stability, with poor crystallinity. Compared to CuS and the three-dimensional CuS-MOF (CuS-BDC-3D) structure, CuS-BDC-2D demonstrates significantly higher mercury capture capacity due to the high exposure of active sites and defects sites in the two-dimensional material. Moreover, CuS-BDC-2D exhibits excellent resistance to sulfur, maintaining its high efficiency in removing Hg 0 even at high levels of sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ), such as 5000-20,000 ppm. The superior performance of CuS-BDC-2D makes it suitable for controlling mercury emissions in actual nonferrous smelting flue gas. This discovery also paves the way for the development of new mercury adsorbents, which can guide future advancements in this field.

This study reports the effects of a computationally informed and avocado-seed mediated Phyto engineered CuS nanoparticles as fertilizing agent on the ionome and amino acid metabolome of Pinto bean seeds using both bench top and ion beam analytical techniques. Physico-chemical analysis of the Phyto engineered nanoparticles with scanning-electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy confirmed the presence of CuS nanoparticles. Molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the interaction of some active phytocompounds in avocado seeds that act as reducing agents with the nano-digenite further showed that 4-hydroxybenzoic acid had a higher affinity for interacting with the nanoparticle's surface than other active compounds. Seeds treated with the digenite nanoparticles exhibited a unique ionome distribution pattern as determined with external beam proton-induced X-ray emission, with hotspots of Cu and S appearing in the hilum and micropyle area that indicated a possible uptake mechanism via the seed coat. The nano-digenite also triggered a plant stress response by slightly altering seed amino acid metabolism. Solar-driven water purification is a promising technology that can effectively utilize solar energy for seawater desalination. However, poor materials are unable to meet the dense energy of solar steam generation in natural sunlight for real-time practical applications. Therefore, the demand for energy density can be increased by using improved semiconductor aerogel materials. Here, we report a simple chemical method to obtain a CuS@ATP/PS composite aerogel (named CuAP), which was made of attapulgite (ATP) and CuS loaded onto it using an N-template to give it good photothermal characteristics (CuS@ATP), and then cross-link it with potato starch (PS). The evaporation rate of CuAP-15 aerogel in pure water at 1 kW m -2 solar radiation is 1.57 kg m -2 h -1 . Meanwhile, CuAP-15 aerogel showed excellent salt resistance with an evaporation rate of 1.35 kg m -2 h -1 in 20 wt% NaCl solution. And also exhibited excellent cycling durability in cycling stability tests. More importantly, the freshwater yield can reach 6.54 kg m -2 under natural light irradiation for 11 h. CuS has been reported to be a desirable candidate for CO 2 electroreduction into formate; however, its formate selectivity and stability are still far from the demands of practical application. Herein, we report CuS nanoparticles exhibiting good Faradaic efficiency of formate (about 98 %) in CO 2 electroreduction and its deactivation mechanism during the reaction. The deactivation of CuS was found to be associated with the reconstruction and S loss of CuS, which deteriorates the Faradaic efficiency of formate. Combined with ionic and gas analyses, the S atom in CuS was lost in the form of H 2 S, SO 2 , and SO 4 , followed by the reconstruction of CuS into copper oxides. Such a catalyst reconstruction facilitates electroreductions of CO 2- , followed by the reconstruction of CuS into copper oxides. Such a catalyst reconstruction facilitates electroreductions of CO 2 and H 2 O, respectively, into CO and H 2 electroreduction into formate. Ultrasonic field (USF) is widely used to regulate the intrinsic properties of materials that are not applied in electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. One reason is that the lack of a response mechanism for the materials to USF hinders the expansion of their EMW absorption performance. Therefore, to address this issue, a series of CuS nanoparticles with diverse anions are constructed in the presence or absence of USF. The ultrasonic-induced cavitation effect can significantly promote CuS crystallization and lead to the accumulation of S defects at the grain boundaries (GBs). Furthermore, the S defects at the GBs are easily oriented and arranged, allowing the polarization relaxation retention to be maintained at 10 wt%. Consequently, the CuS with a nitrate precursor under USF shows an optimum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 10.24 GHz at a thickness of 3.5 mm, which is 228.6% more than that without the USF. CuS with a chloride precursor also achieves an EAB of 3.92 GHz, even at a considerably low filler ratio. CuS is a unique semiconductor with potential in optoelectronics. Its unusual electronic structure, including a partially occupied valence band, and complex crystal structure with an S-S bond offer unique opportunities and potential applications. In this work, the use of doping to optimize the properties of CuS for various applications is investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Among the dopants studied, Ni, Zn, and Mg may be the most practical due to their lower formation energies. Doping with Fe, Ni, or Ca induces significant distortion, which may be beneficial for achieving materials with high surface areas and active states. Significantly, doping alters the conductor-like behavior of CuS, opening a band gap by increasing bond ionicity and reducing the S-S bond covalency. Thus, doping CuS can tune the plasmonic properties and transform it from a conductor to an intrinsic fluorescent semiconductor. Ni and Fe doping give the lowest band gaps (0.35 eV and 0.39 eV, respectively), while Mg doping gives the highest (0.86 eV). Doping with Mg, Ca, and Zn may enhance electron mobility and charge separation. Hydrogels are emerging materials for solar steam generation to alleviate water scarcity. Herein, a semiconductor of copper sulfide (CuS) was integrated into cellulose hydrogel to fabricate a solar steam evaporator. Sustainable and low-cost cotton linter (cellulose) was regenerated by NaOH/urea solvent. Epichlorohydrin was added as a cross-linking agent to enhance the mechanical robustness of the composite hydrogel, and CuS crystals were tightly attached to cellulose fibers and uniformly distributed in the hydrogel matrix. Under simulated solar light, a heating zone was established at the top surface of the composite hydrogel, and CuS can efficiently absorb and convert light into heat. The hydrophilic cellulose network affords an adequate water supply and a low water vaporization enthalpy. By tuning the CuS loadings, the optimized evaporation rate and solar-to-vapor efficiency could reach 2.2 kg/m 2 /h and 87 %, respectively, under 1 sun irradiation. The evaporation rate remained above 2.1 kg/m 2 /h after 48 h of irradiation. Moreover, the hydrogels (with a CuS loading of 30 wt%) showed a efficiently photocatalytic degradation of 95 % for methylene blue and 92 % for Rhodamine B. Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the important half-reactions in energy conversion equipment such as water-spitting devices, rechargeable metal-air batteries, and so on. It is beneficial to develop efficient and low-cost catalysts that understand the reaction mechanism of OER and analyze the reconstruction phenomenon of transition metal sulfide. Interestingly, copper sulfide and cuprous sulfide with the same components possess different reconstruction behaviors due to their different metal ion valence states and different atomic arrangement modes. Because of a unique atomic arrangement sequence and certain cationic defects, the reconstruction phenomenon of CuS nanomaterials are that S 2- is firstly oxidized to SO 4 2- and then Cu x . In addition, the specific "modified hourglass structure" of CuS with excellent conductivity is easier to produce intermediates. Compared with Cu + S, CuS exhibits excellent OER activity with a lower overpotential of 192 mV at 10 mA cm 2 and remarkable electrochemical stability in 1.0 m KOH for 120 h. Herein, this study elucidates the reconstruction modes of CuS and Cu 2 S in the OER process and reveals that CuS has a stronger CuS bond and a faster electronic transmission efficiency due to "modified hourglass structure," resulting in faster reconstruction of CuS than Cu -2 and remarkable electrochemical stability in 1.0 m KOH for 120 h. A multi-level architecture formed alternatively by the conformal graphdiyne (GDY) and CuS is well engineered for Li-free cathode. Such a proof-of-concept architecture efficiently integrates the advantages of GDY and produces new functional heterojunctions (sp-C-S-Cu hybridization bond). The layer-by-layer 2D confinement effect successfully avoids structural collapse, the selective transport inhibits the shuttling of active components, and the interfacial sp-C-S-Cu hybridization bond significantly regulates the phase conversion reaction. Such new sp-C-S-Cu hybridization of GDY greatly improves the reaction dynamics and reversibility, and the cathode delivers an energy density of 934 Wh kg -1 and an unattenuated lifespan of 3000 cycles at 1 C. Although photothermal treatment (PTT) has made significant progress in the fight against cancer, certain types of malignant tumors are still difficult to eradicate. PTT uses photothermal transforming agents to absorb NIR light and convert it to thermal energy, causing cancer cell death. In this study, we synthesized alginate (Alg)-coated CuS nanoparticles (CuS@Alg) as photothermal transforming agents to kill glioblastoma cancer cells. Nanoparticles were synthesized via a facile method, then, were characterized with different techniques such as ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Nanoparticles show high stability, and are monodisperse. CuS@Alg was discovered to have a spherical shape, a hydrodynamic size of about 19.93 nm, and a zeta potential of - 9.74 mV. CuS@Alg is able to increase temperature of medium under NIR light. Importantly, in vitro investigations show that PTT based on CuS@Alg has a strong theraputic impact, resulting in much high effectiveness. The LD50 and histopathology assays were used to confirm the NPs' non-toxicity in vivo. Being social animals, rats exhibit a range of social behaviors that help them build social bonds and maintain group cohesion. Behavior is influenced by multiple factors, including stress exposure, and the expression of the impact of stress on both social and non-social behaviors may also be affected by the living conditions of rats. In this study, we explored the physiological and behavioral effects of chronic unpredictable stress on group-housed rats in the PhenoWorld (PhW), a socially and physically enriched environment closer to real-life conditions. Two independent experiments were performed: one in the control condition (PhW control, n = 8) and one in the stress condition (PhW stress, n = 8). Control animals remained undisturbed except for cage cleaning and daily handling procedures. Stress group animals were all exposed to chronic unpredictable stress. Data confirm that stress exposure triggers anxiety-like behavior in the PhW. In terms of home-cage behaviors, we found that stress affects social behaviors (by decreased playing and increased huddling behaviors) and non-social behaviors (as shown by the decrease in rearing and walking behaviors). Herein, well-defined hollow CuS microspheres assembled from nanosheets were successfully synthesized through a facile solvothermal method. Hollow CuS microspheres have an average diameter of 1.5 μm; moreover, the primary CuS nanosheets have an ultrathin thickness of about 10 nm and are bound by {0001} polar facets. When used as anodes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), hollow CuS microspheres exhibit excellent electrochemical properties, including a large discharge capacity (610.1 mAh g -1 at 0.5 C), an excellent rate capability (207.6 and 143.4 mAh g -1 at 1 and 5 C), and a superior cyclic stability (196.3 mAh g -1 at 1 C after 500 cycles). When used as photocatalysts for Rhodamine B (RhB), hollow CuS microspheres can degrade more than 99% of the initial RhB within 21 min. These excellent Li-ion storage properties and photocatalytical performances are attributed to their unique hierarchical hollow structure.

Ouabain (OUA) is a cardiotonic steroid that modulates Na+, K+ -ATPase activity. OUA has been identified as an endogenous substance that is present in human plasma, and it has been shown to be associated with the response to acute stress in both animals and humans. Chronic stress is a major aggravating factor in psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. The present work investigates the effects of the intermittent administration of OUA (1.8 μg/kg) during the chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) protocol in a rat's central nervous system (CNS). The results suggest that the intermittent OUA treatment reversed CUS-induced HPA axis hyperactivity through a reduction in (i) glucocorticoids levels, (ii) CRH-CRHR1 expression, and by decreasing neuroinflammation with a reduction in iNOS activity, without interfering with the expression of antioxidant enzymes. These changes in both the hypothalamus and hippocampus may reflect in the rapid extinction of aversive memory. The present data demonstrate the ability of OUA to modulate the HPA axis, as well as to revert CUS-induced long-term spatial memory deficits.

In this paper, a novel S-scheme CuS/Bi 5 O 7 I heterojunction was successfully constructed using a two-step approach comprising the alkaline hydrothermal method and the adsorption-deposition method, and it consisted of Bi 5 O 7 I microrods with CuS particles covering the surface. The photocatalytic antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) were systematically examined with visible light exposure. The results suggested that the 3%-CuS/Bi 5 O 7 I composite showed the optimal antibacterial activity, completely inactivating E. coli (5 × 10 8 cfu/mL) in 180 min of irradiation. Moreover, the bacterial inactivation process was scientifically described. •O 2 - and h + were the major active species for the inactivation of the bacteria. In the early stages, SOD and CAT initiated the protection system to avoid the oxidative destruction of the active species. Unfortunately, the antioxidant protection system was overwhelmed thereafter, which led to the destruction of the cell membrane, as evidenced by the microstructure changes in E. coli cells. Subsequently, the leakage of intracellular components including K + Due to the construction of the S-scheme heterojunction, the CuS/Bi E. coli. Due to the construction of the S-scheme heterojunction, the CuS/Bi 5 O 7 I composite displayed the boosted visible light harvesting, the high-efficiency separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, and a great redox capacity, contributing to an outstanding photocatalytic disinfection performance. This work offers a new opportunity for S-scheme Bi 5 O 7 I-based heterojunctions with potential application in water disinfection.

There are growing interests in the development of bifunctional semiconducting nanostructures for photocatalysis and real-time monitoring of degradation process on catalysts. Defect engineering is a low-cost approach to manipulating the properties of semiconductors. Herein, we prepared CuS nanoplates by a hydrothermal method at increasing amounts of thioacetamide (CS-1, CS-2, and CS-3) and investigated the influence of sulfur vacancy (V s ) on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and photocatalysis performance. SERS intensity of 4-nitrobenzenethiol on CS-3 is 346 and 17 times that of CS-1 and CS-2, respectively, and enhancement factor is 1.34 × 10 4 . Moreover, SERS is successfully applied to monitor the photodegradation of methyl orange. In addition, CS-3 also exhibited higher efficiency of Cr(VI) photoreduction than CS-1 and CS-2, and removal rate is 88%, 96%, and 73% under 2 h UV, 4 h visible, and 4 h near-infrared illumination, respectively. A systematic study including electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, photoelectrochemical measurements, and nitrogen adsorption isotherms were conducted to investigate the underlying mechanism. This work may help to understand the impact of vacancy defect on SERS and photocatalysis, and provide an effective and low-cost approach for the design of multifunctional materials.

The JAK/STAT signal pathway is a system of intracellular proteins used by many cytokines and growth factors to express genes responsible for the process of cell activation, proliferation and differentiation. There has been numerous inflammatory and autoimmune diseases identified where the JAK/STAT signaling is disrupted; however, there are only a few papers concerning autoimmune bullous diseases published. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of proteins: JAK3, STAT2, STAT4 and STAT6 in epithelium lesions in patients with pemphigus vulgaris (PV), bullous pemphigoid (BP), oral lichen planus (LP) and chronic ulcerative stomatitis (CUS), as well as in the control group. Immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting were used to evaluate expression of selected proteins. We found significantly higher expression of selected JAK/STAT proteins in oral mucosa lesions in study groups in comparison to the control group, which indicates participation of JAK/STAT pathway in pathogenesis of these diseases. In BP and PV there were no increased STAT2 expression, whereas in CUS and LP no increased STAT4 expression occurred. The differences in expression of JAK/STAT proteins in selected disorders have been observed. These results create new potential therapeutic targets for the treatment.

Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses and seriously affects all aspects of life. Running exercise has been suggested to prevent or alleviate the occurrence and development of depression; however, the underlying mechanisms of these effects remain unclear. Independent studies have indicated that astrocytes play essential roles and that the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is an important brain region involved in the pathology underlying depression. However, it is unknown whether running exercise achieves antidepressant effects by affecting the number of astrocytes and glutamate transport function in the mPFC. Here, animal models of depression were established using chronic unpredictable stress (CUS), and depression-like behavior was assessed by the sucrose preference test. After successfully establishing the depression model, experimental animals performed running exercise. Glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive (GFAP + ) cell number in the mPFC was precisely quantified using immunohistochemical and stereological methods, and the densities of bromodeoxyuridine-positive (BrdU + ) and BrdU + /GFAP + cells in the mPFC were measured using a semiquantitative immunofluorescence assay. Changes in glutamate transporter gene expression in mPFC astrocytes were detected by mRNA sequencing and qRT-PCR. We found that running exercise reversed CUS-induced decreases in sucrose preference, increased astrocyte number and the density of newborn astrocytes, and reversed decreases in gene expression levels of GFAP, S100b, and the glutamate transporters GLT-1 and GLAST in the mPFC of CUS animals. Chronic ulcerative stomatitis (CUS) is a rarely reported disease affecting the oral cavity, most often affecting middle-aged Caucasian females. The aim of the present study is to present the diagnosis, differentiation, and interdisciplinary treatment of this rare disease. CUS is characterized by the presence of an oral erosive or ulcerative lesion. The autoimmune pathogenesis of CUS includes affecting the antigen's activity by DNA-breaking and protein-hydrolyzing enzymes. The stratified epithelium-specific antinuclear antibodies (SES-ANA) are associated with CUS development. Clinically, the lesions presented in oral mucosa might resemble an erosive form of oral lichen planus, whereas gingival lesions seem to be similar to desquamative gingivitis related to dermatological diseases manifested in the oral cavity. Patients often report subjective symptoms related to oral mucosa and general symptoms. Histopathological presentation of CUS is often non-specific and includes sub-epithelial separation from underlying connective tissue, atrophic epithelium, and inflammatory infiltrate with an increased number of plasma cells and lymphocytes. Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) might be used in CUS diagnostics. CUS generally remains nonsusceptible to corticosteroid treatments; however, antimalarial drugs and calcineurin inhibitors are more effective. Further research should be conducted in order to implement a diagnostic protocol and observe the long-term results of CUS management.

Photo-stimuli-responsive therapeutic nanomaterials have gained widespread attention as frontline materials for biomedical applications. The photoactivation strategies are classified as single-modality (based on either reactive oxygen species (ROS)-based photodynamic therapy (PDT), hyperthermia-based photothermal therapy (PTT)), or dual-modality (which combines PDT and PTT). Due to its minimal invasiveness, phototherapy has been extensively applied as an efficient therapeutic platform for many diseases, including skin cancers. However, extensive implementation of phototherapy to address the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections remains challenging. This review focuses on copper sulfide (CuS) nanomaterials as efficient and cost-effective PDT and PTT therapeutic nanomaterials with antibacterial activity. The features and merits of CuS nanomaterials as therapeutics are compared to those of other nanomaterials. Control of the dimensions and morphological complexity of CuS nanomaterials through judicious synthesis is then introduced. Both the in vitro antibacterial activity and the in vivo therapeutic effect of CuS nanomaterials and derivative nanocomposites composed of 2D nanomaterials, polymers, metals, metal oxides, and proteins are described in detail. Finally, the perspective of photo-stimuli-responsive CuS nanomaterials for future clinical antibacterial applications is highlighted. This review illustrates that CuS nanomaterials are highly effective, low-toxic, and environmentally friendly antibacterial agents or platform nanomaterials for combatting MDR bacterial infections.

Eco-friendly and highly effective catalysts are receiving considerable attention for the removal of heavy-metal ions and organic pollutants. In this study, we developed CuS/MoS 2 nanocomposite sonocatalysts to enhance the degradation rate of environmental contaminants by harnessing ultrasonic irradiation. The successful synthesis of nanocomposite sonocatalysts was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The incorporation of CuS into MoS 2 resulted in a flower-like structure with an increased surface area. Importantly, the sonocatalytic efficiency was enhanced by increasing CuS concentration in the nanocomposites, achieving maximum removal efficiencies of 99% and 88.52% for rhodamine B (RhB) and Cr(VI), respectively. In addition, they showed excellent stability and recyclability over five consecutive cycles, without noticeable changes in the nanocomposite structure. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) used for the degradation were identified using ROS scavengers. The latest view suggests the inactive core, surface pulverization, and polysulfide shuttling effect of metal sulfides are responsible for their low capacity and poor cycling performance in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Whereas overcoming the above problems based on conventional nanoengineering is not efficient enough. In this work, erythrocyte-like CuS microspheres with an elastic buffering layer of ultrathin polyaniline (PANI) were synthesized through one-step self-assembly growth, followed by in situ polymerization of aniline. When CuS@PANI is used as anode electrode in SIBs, it delivers high capacity, ultrahigh rate capability (500 mAh g -1 at 0.1 A g -1 , and 214.5 mAh g -1 at 40 A g -1 ), and superior cycling life of over 7500 cycles at 20 A g -1 . A series of in/ex situ characterization techniques were applied to investigate the structural evolution and sodium-ion storage mechanism. The PANI swollen with electrolyte can stabilize solid electrolyte interface layer, benefit the ion transport/charge transfer at the PANI/electrolyte interface, and restrain the size growth of Cu particles in confined space. This work presents a novel CuS/percarbonate/tetraacetylethylenediamine (CuS/SPC/TAED) process for the degradation of sulfamethazine (SMT). Results indicated that the CuS/SPC/TAED process enabled the efficient generation of peracetic acid (PAA), which can be efficiently activated by CuS in alkaline reaction media, and 93.6% of SMT was degraded in 30 min. Mechanism study revealed that the available reactive oxygen species (ROS) including hydroxyl radical ( • OH), carbonate radical (CO 3 •- ), superoxide radical (O 2 •- ), singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), and organic radicals (R-O • ). Among them, R-O • (acetyloxyl radical (CH 3 CO 2 • and sulfur species rendered the efficient redox of Cu species. Besides, the effects of key influencing factors including SPC/TAED mole ratio, CuS dosage, initial pH, temperature, and nontarget matrix constituents on SMT degradation were examined. Finally, the degradation intermediates of SMT was identified, and the toxicity of these products was estimated by quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis. Most of the copper sulfide synthetic approaches developed until now are still facing issues in their procedure, such as long synthesis duration, high energetic consumption, and high implementation costs. This publication reports a facile and sustainable approach for synthesizing copper sulfides on a large scale. In particular, an industrial by-product of sulfur waste was used as a sulfurizing agent for copper sulfide synthesis in a water medium. The reaction was performed in the hydrothermal environment by following a novel proposed mechanism of copper sulfide formation. The investigation of morphological and optical properties revealed that the target products obtained by using waste possess the resembling properties as the ones synthesized from the most conventional sulfurizing agent. Since the determined band gap of synthesis products varied from 1.72 to 1.81 eV, the photocatalytic properties, triggered under visible light irradiation, were also investigated by degrading the methylene blue as a model pollutant. Importantly, the degradation efficiency of the copper sulfide synthesized from sulfur waste was equivalent to a sample obtained from a reference sulfurizing agent since the value for both samples was 96% in 180 min. This very simple synthetic approach opens up a new way for large-scale sustainable production of visible-light-driven photocatalysts for water purification from organic pollutants.

Metal sulfide is often utilized as a catalyzed material to form colorimetric response system for some heavy metal detection. While the aggregation effect and conventional morphology limited the catalyzed efficiency. Herein, a robust method based on morphology adjustment was proposed to improve the dispersibility and catalytic performance of CuS. The results demonstrated when the solvent ratio of ethylene glycol and dimethyl sulfoxide arrived at 3:1, it displayed an optimal structure which is like a patulous flower. Meanwhile, an optimal surface binding energy (ΔE) of 120.1 kcal/mol was obtained via theoretical calculation model. The flower-like structure caused a 2-fold increase in the catalytic level. Subsequently, the CuS was employed to make colorimetric detection of Cr(VI) in water. The assay results exhibited a linear range of the Cr(VI) from 60 to 340 nM, the limit of detection was 1.07 nM. In the practical tests for Qianhu lake water, the spiked recoveries were 93.6% and 104% with the RSD of 4.71% and 3.08%. Therefore, this CuS-based colorimetric method possesses a satisfactory application prospect for the Cr(VI) determination in water.

Multimodal therapy has attracted increasing interests in tumor treatment due to its high anti-cancer efficacy, and the key is to develop multifunctional nanoagents. The classic multifunctional nanoagents are made up of expensive and complex components, leading to limited practical applications. To solve these problems, we have developed the polyethylene glycol (PEG) coated hollow Cu 9 S 8 nanoparticles (H-Cu 9 S 8 /PEG NPs), whose H-Cu 9 S 8 component exhibits the photothermal effect for near-infrared (NIR) photothermal therapy (PTT), the Fenton-like catalytic activity for chemodynamic therapy (CDT), and the drug-loading capacity for chemotherapy. The H-Cu 9 S 8 /PEG NPs with a diameter of ∼ 100 nm have been synthesized by sulfurizing cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O) nanoparticles through "Kirkendall effect", and they exhibit high photothermal conversion efficiency of 40.9%. Meanwhile, the H-Cu 9 S 8 /PEG NPs are capable of a Fenton-like reaction, which can be augmented by 2 times under the NIR irradiation. The hollow structure gives the H-Cu 9 S 8 /PEG high doxorubicin (DOX) loading capacity (21.1%), and then the DOX release can be further improved by pH and photothermal effect. When the DOX@H-Cu 9 S 8 /PEG dispersions are injected into the tumor-bearing mice, the tumor growth can be efficiently inhibited due to the synergistic effect of photothermally-augmented CDT-chemo therapy. Designing photothermal transducing agents (PTAs) with enhanced photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) holds essential importance for photothermal tumor eradication applications. Currently, it is an effective way to improve the photothermal efficiency by designing the energy level transition leading to the enhancement of UV absorption. To address the challenge, we develop novel Prussian blue@polyacrylic acid/copper sulfide Janus nanoparticles (PB@PAA/CuS JNPs) via selective coating of PAA nano-hemisphere on one of the surfaces of PB NPs followed by the further formation of CuS on the PAA template. The experiments show that the energy level transition occurs between Janus structure. Besides, it offers enhanced absorption over NIR-I and NIR-II dual windows. The muscle tissue penetration studies suggest that the PB@PAA/CuS JNPs have deeper tissue penetration in the 1064 nm laser irradiation group, indicating their potential for treating deep-tissue-seated tumors. Efficient and stable electrocatalytic water splitting plays a critical role in energy storage and conversion but is strongly restricted by the low activity and stability of catalysts associated with the complicated oxygen evolution reaction (OER). This work provides a strategy to fabricate an advanced NiFe-based catalyst to steadily speed up the OER based on a strong amorphous-amorphous coupling effect generated through amorphous CuS that induces the formation of amorphous NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets (A-NiFe NS/CuS). The presence of the strong coupling effect not only modifies the electronic structure of catalytic sites to accelerate the reaction kinetics but also enhances the binding between the catalyst and substrate to strengthen the durability. In comparison to well-grown core-shell crystalline NiFe LDH on CuO, the as-synthesized amorphous A-NiFe NS/CuS gives a low overpotential of 240 mV to achieve 100 mA cm -2 and shows robust stability under 100 h of operation at the same current density. Therefore, amorphous-amorphous coupling between catalyst-substrate by elaborate and rational engineering yields an opportunity to design efficient and robust NiFe-based OER catalysts.

Although supercapacitors have attracted more and more attention owing to their fast charging speed and high power density, their wide applications have still been limited by their low energy density. In this study, a new CuS-nanoparticle-decorated Ti 3 C 2 T x electrode material is fabricated via a facile in situ synthesis strategy at room temperature. CuS nanoparticles, generated from the in situ reaction of Cu (NO 3 ) 2 ·3H 2 O with Na 2 S·9H 2 O, are anchored between the Ti 3 C 2 T x interlayers through electrostatic interaction. This type of structural construction is found capable of not only reducing the surface oxidation of Ti 3 C 2 T x , but also preventing the accumulation of CuS nanoparticles by the template effect of Ti 3 C 2 T x nanoplates. As a result, the CuS/Ti 3 C 2 T x nanohybrid delivers a maximum specific capacitance of 911 F g -1 at 1 A g -1 and a good cycling stability. A symmetric supercapacitor fabricated using the CuS/Ti 3 C 2 T x nanohybrid as the electrode material exhibits an energy density of 43.56 W h kg -1 with a power density of 475 W kg -1 . Pilots and crew of domestic flights are exposed to transient periods of mild reductions of partial pressure of inspired oxygen each day, and this might have functional consequence on their performance in the long range. Here, we exposed mice to mild reductions of oxygen exposure (ROE) four times per day for 21 days by lowering oxygen partial pressure to levels corresponding to an altitude of about 2300 m, which is the quote of pressurization of the air cabin. Four groups of mice were studied: unstressed or stressed mice exposed to ROE or normoxic conditions. Mice were exposed to chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) for 28 days, and ROE was delivered in the last 21 days of CUS. In normoxic mice, CUS caused anhedonia in the sucrose preference test, anxiety-like behaviour in the open field test, learning impairment in the Morris water maze, reduced hippocampal neurogenesis, increased serum corticosterone levels and increased expression of depression-related genes (Pclo, Mthfr and Grm5) in the hippocampus. All these changes were reversed by ROE, which had little or no effect in unstressed mice. To regulate the charge flow of the photocatalyst in photocatalytic hydrogen reactions is highly desirable. In this study, a highly efficient sulphur vacancies-CdS@CuS core-shell heterostructure photocatalyst (denoted CdS-SV@CuS) was developed through the surface modification of CdS-sulphur vacancies (SV) nanoparticles by CuS based on photoinduced interfacial charge transfer (IFCT). This novel photocatalyst with modulated charge transfer was prepared by hydrothermal treatment and subsequent cation-exchange reactions. The SV confined in CdS and the IFCT facilitate the charge carrier's efficient spatial separation. The optimized CdS-SV@CuS(5%) catalyst exhibited a remarkably higher H 2 production rate of 1654.53 μmol/g/h, approximately 6.7 and 4.0 times higher than those of pure CdS and CdS-SV, respectively. The high photocatalytic performance is attributed to the rapid charge separation, caused by the intimate interactions between CdS-SV and CuS in the core-shell heterostructure. In the current paper, copper sulfide nanotubes have been successfully synthesized via the green, simple, and effective gamma-radiolysis method without adding any capping or reducing agents. The structural and morphological characteristics of the as-prepared CuS nanotubes were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption-desorption measurements at 77 K, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, which all demonstrated the formation of pure CuS covellite phase with tubular morphology. The synthesized CuS nanotubes possessed not only high activity towards the reduction of both cationic (methylene blue) and anionic (Congo red) dyes in the presence of NaBH 4 but also exhibited excellent reusability. In addition, the pseudo-first-order kinetic model represented the reduction of MB very well, and the value of the normalized rate constant (2.4 × 10 -2  s -1  mg -1 ) was higher than those of other solid catalysts reported in the literature. Ultimately, CuS nanotubes were found to have a broad-spectrum microbicidal action against the common microbiota, such as Gram-positive (exemplified by Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus), Gram-negative bacteria (exemplified by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli), yeast (exemplified by Candida albicans), and plant pathogenic fungi (exemplified by Aspergillus niger)., (© 2021. The poor drug delivery and unsatisfying therapeutic effects remain to be the primary challenges for cancer therapy. Nanosystem that combines multiple functions into a single platform is an ideal strategy. Here, a smart drug delivery nanoplatform (Z@C-D/P) based on ZnO@CuS nanoparticles, loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) and pirfenidone (PFD) was constructed. Importantly, the β-CD-DMA and PEG-DMA could be activated in the mild acidic tumor microenvironment, then the nanosystem underwent charge reversal and PFD release. PFD could inhibit cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) activation and enhance tumor penetration. And the residual nanostructure ZnO@CuS could trigger cascade amplified ROS generation to induce tumor cell death. The photothermal effect further strengthened the anti-tumor efficacy. Finally, the nanosystem showed remarkable inhibition of tumor growth (89.7%) and lung metastasis. In this project, bimetallic Au-Agnanoparticles/CuS nanoparticles were prepared via simple hydrothermal methods, which were used as highly efficient material for Cr (III) detection, photocatalytic, and biological process. The Au-Ag/CuS nanoparticles was studied via UV-visible spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, Dynamic light scattering, and X-ray diffraction. The zeta potential and effective size of Au-Ag/CuS nanoparticles was -32.1 mV and 25 nm respectively. The response time of Cr (III) ions interaction was 2 min. The lowest detection of Cr (III) by Au-Ag/CuS nanoparticles was 0.5 nM. The Au-Ag/CuS nano catalyst was applied to decomposition of drug under visible lamp irradiation. The photo degradation response of drug was 100.0% in 30 min irradiation. Recently, the frenetic development of stable quaternary material with a wide range of solar energy absorption and separation of charge carrier has emerged as a favorable material for the solar-to-hydrogen conversion. In this work, quaternary CuS-AgVO 3 /Ag-TNR heteronanostructures (HNSs) synthesized by an ultra-sonication method for stabilized solar light photocatalytic hydrogen production in glycerol-water mixture. Among the prepared photocatalysts, the 1 wt% CuS-AgVO 3 /Ag-TNR HNS produced the highest H 2 activity (756 µmol/g), approximately 84 times greater than the TNR due to higher charge separation, excellent conductivity, plasmonic resonance effect, and electron-storing capacity. Interestingly, the accelerated charge transfer pathway through the Schottky junction between the AgVO 3 and Ag to the conduction band of the TNR and thereafter to the electron acceptor of CuS for the reduction of H + ions to H 2 . Additionally, a possible photocatalytic mechanism of CuS-AgVO 3 /Ag-TNR HNS for improved H 2 production was proposed based on the results obtained by various characterization techniques. Copper-containing minerals have been extensively used in Fenton-like processes for degradation of pollutants and have exhibited great potential for environmental remediation. This work reports the first use of copper sulfide (CuS), a typical Cu-mineral, for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for pollutant degradation; the study also elucidates the underlying mechanism of these processes. Copper sulfide effectively activated PMS to degrade diethyl phthalate (DEP). Electron paramagnetic resonance, free radical quenching, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analyses and DFT calculations confirmed that ≡Cu (I)/≡Cu (II) cycling on the surface of CuS provided the main pathway to activate PMS to produce highly oxidative species. Unlike conventional sulfate radical-based PMS activation processes, hydroxyl radical ( • OH) were found to be the dominant radical in the tested CuS/PMS system, which performed more efficiently than an alternative • OH-based oxidation system (CuS/H 2 O 2 ) for DEP degradation. In addition, the presence of anions such Cl - and NO 3 - has limited inhibition effects on DEP degradation. Photothermal therapy (PTT) as a noninvasive and effective thermal therapeutic approach has attracted tremendously increasing interest because it can effectively eliminate the primary tumor and generate tumor-associated antigens, which could elicit antitumor immune responses. Herein, we report on the rational design and fabrication of copper sulfide (CuS)-based nanoplatform for cancer photothermal immunotherapy. The as-prepared core-shell CuS@mSiO 2 -PFP-PEG (CPPs) nanocomposites possess high biocompatibility, photoacoustic (PA)/ultrasound (US) imaging, and strong PTT effect upon 808 nm laser irradiation, indicating that the nanocomposites have a promising application in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer with molecular classification. Importantly, we also elucidated that the CPP-triggered PTT in combination with anti -PD-1 checkpoint blockade therapy can not only obliterate primary tumor but also inhibit metastatic tumor in tumor-bearing mice. We believe that the CPPs have a good probability to serve as a useful nanoplatform for PTT, and this approach may provide a promising strategy for tumor-therapeutic modality with immunotherapy.

Photoinduced hyperthermia possesses great potential in photothermal therapy and thermal-responsive chemotherapy of tumors. However, traditional thermal-triggered drug release requires high temperature, which results in unpleasant activation of thermal-induced cellular self-protection. In this work, a Cu-complex modified and drug-loaded liposomal nanoplatform was constructed for endogenous H 2 S-activated synergistic ablation of colorectal tumors. In response to H 2 S, the incorporated Cu-complex contributed to the formation of semiconductor CuS on the surface of the as-designed liposomal nanoplatform, which led to local heating under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation to achieve simultaneous photothermal therapy and drug release. It is noteworthy that although the drug release occurred at a mild apparent temperature, it was actually triggered by the high eigen temperature on the surface of the liposomal nanoplatform. Therefore, efficient and synergistic photothermal and chemotherapy was achieved under mild apparent temperatures. This work provides insights into achieving selective and bioactivated photothermal therapy and therefore thermal-controlled drug release without using excessive hyperthermia.
