The central nervous system (CNS) comprises a diverse range of brain cell types with distinct functions and gene expression profiles. Although single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) provides new insights into the brain cell atlases, integrating large-scale CNS scRNA-seq data still encounters challenges due to the complexity and heterogeneity among CNS cell types/subtypes. In this study, we introduce a self-supervised contrastive learning method, called scCM, for integrating large-scale CNS scRNA-seq data. scCM brings functionally related cells close together while simultaneously pushing apart dissimilar cells by comparing the variations of gene expression, effectively revealing the heterogeneous relationships within the CNS cell types/subtypes. The effectiveness of scCM is evaluated on 20 CNS datasets covering 4 species and 10 CNS diseases. Leveraging these strengths, we successfully integrate the collected human CNS datasets into a large-scale reference to annotate cell types and subtypes in neural tissues. Results demonstrate that scCM provides an accurate annotation, along with rich spatial information of cell state. Skin identity is controlled by intrinsic features of the epidermis and dermis and their interactions. Modifying skin identity has clinical potential, such as the conversion of residual limb and stump (nonvolar) skin of amputees to pressure-responsive palmoplantar (volar) skin to enhance prosthesis use and minimize skin breakdown. Greater keratin 9 ( KRT9 ) expression, higher epidermal thickness, keratinocyte cytoplasmic size, collagen length, and elastin are markers of volar skin and likely contribute to volar skin resiliency. Given fibroblasts' capacity to modify keratinocyte differentiation, we hypothesized that volar fibroblasts influence these features. Bioprinted skin constructs confirmed the capacity of volar fibroblasts to induce volar keratinocyte features. A clinical trial of healthy volunteers demonstrated that injecting volar fibroblasts into nonvolar skin increased volar features that lasted up to 5 months, highlighting a potential cellular therapy.

Intervention mapping (IM) is a planning approach that reflects the intricate decision-making process involved in the design of behavior interventions. The development and implementation of IM is complex in preventing HIV/AIDS transmission. Therefore, it is significant to conduct a perfect preliminary work to successfully implement HIV/AIDS prevention. The objectives of this review were to collect and evaluate the data of the first three steps using IM to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission, and summarize the key points in the preliminary steps of IM. A total of 18 studies were identified, and six studies completely described the tasks in the first three steps of IM. Three studies described the logic model of the problem ( n  = 3). Six studies reported the matrix of behavior changes ( n  = 6), including personal and environmental determinants. Among the selected determinants, most studies reported the personal level determinants (self-efficacy and skills, knowledge, attitudes, and norms). The most used practical applications in reducing HIV/AIDS risk behaviors were video roles ( n  = 8) and role-model stories ( n  = 5). The review may be helpful for healthcare professionals to carefully design and implement the key procedures of the first three steps of the IM programs for people with HIV/AIDS in preventing HIV/AIDS transmission.

Purpose: Although several different parameters of PET/CT were reported to be predictive of survival in DLBCL, the best parameter remains to be elucidated and whether it could improve the risk stratification of IPI in patients with DLBCL., Procedures: 262 DLBCL patients including in the training and validation cohort were retrospectively analyzed in this study., Results: Among different parameters, MTV was identified as the optimal prognostic parameter with a maximum area under the curve (AUC) of 0.652 ± 0.112 than TLG and SDmax (0.645 ± 0.113 and 0.600 ± 0.117, respectively). Patients with high MTV were associated with inferior PFS (p < 0.001 and p = 0.021, respectively) and OS (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively) in both the training and validation cohort. The multivariate analysis revealed that high MTV was an unfavorable factor for PFS (relative ratio [RR], 2.295; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.457-3.615; p < 0.01) and OS (RR, 2.929; 95% CI 1.679-5.109; p < 0.01) independent of IPI., Conclusions: Further analysis showed MTV could improve the risk stratification of IPI for both PFS and OS (p < 0.01 and p < 0.01, respectively). In conclusion, our study suggests that MTV was an optimal prognostic parameter of PET/CT for survival and it could improve the risk stratification of IPI in DLBCL, which may help to guide treatment in clinical trial., (© 2024. Piezoelectric catalysis could convert mechanical energy into chemical energy, which can combine with solar energy for a high-efficiency piezo-photocatalysis reaction. In this work, NiTiO 3 nanorods were synthesized via the sol-gel method and initially employed for the removal of U(VI) from radioactive-contaminated water. The NiTiO 3 nanorods will generate an internal electric field in an ultrasonic environment, which could greatly improve the performance of piezo-photocatalysis in reducing U(VI) by promoting the generation of photoexcited electrons and reactive oxygen species (ROS). After exposure to visible light and ultrasound for 3 h, the NTO-R-1 exhibited superb U(VI) degradation efficiency of 93.91%, which was 2.58, 6.15, and 6.68 times greater than those of visible light, ultrasonic irradiation, and dark, respectively. Moreover, photoexcited electrons and oxygen-active species play a decisive role in the piezo-photocatalysis process. Therefore, NiTiO 3 with excellent piezo-photocatalysis properties exhibits good potential for the development of efficient wastewater purification catalysts and also helps to probe the possible mechanism of piezo-photocatalysis removal of U(VI) in wastewater.

It is generally acknowledged that antiviral therapy can reduce the incidence of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), there remains a subset of patients with chronic HBV infection who develop HCC despite receiving antiviral treatment. This study aimed to develop a model capable of predicting the long-term occurrence of HCC in patients with chronic HBV infection before initiating antiviral therapy. A total of 1450 patients with chronic HBV infection, who received initial antiviral therapy between April 2006 and March 2023 and completed long-term follow-ups, were nonselectively enrolled in this study. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox regression analysis was used to construct the model. The results were validated in an external cohort (n = 210) and compared with existing models. The median follow-up time for all patients was 60 months, with a maximum follow-up time of 144 months, during which, 32 cases of HCC occurred. The nomogram model for predicting HCC based on GGT, AFP, cirrhosis, gender, age, and hepatitis B e antibody (TARGET-HCC) was constructed, demonstrating a good predictive performance. In the derivation cohort, the C-index was 0.906 (95% CI = 0.869-0.944), and in the validation cohort, it was 0.780 (95% CI = 0.673-0.886). Compared with existing models, TARGET-HCC showed promising predictive performance. Additionally, the time-dependent feature importance curve indicated that gender consistently remained the most stable predictor for HCC throughout the initial decade of antiviral therapy. Ferroptosis has been recognized as a unique cell death modality driven by excessive lipid peroxidation and unbalanced cellular metabolism. In this study, we established a protein interaction landscape for ferroptosis pathways through proteomic analyses, and identified choline/ethanolamine phosphotransferase 1 (CEPT1) as a lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3)-interacting protein that regulates LPCAT3 protein stability. In contrast to its known role in promoting phospholipid synthesis, we showed that CEPT1 suppresses ferroptosis potentially by interacting with phospholipases and breaking down certain pro-ferroptotic polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-containing phospholipids. Epigenetic modifier (EM) genes play important roles in the occurrence and progression of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). However, the prognostic significance of EM mutations in ALL has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This retrospective study included 205 adult patients with ALL engaged in a pediatric-type regimen. Based on targeted next-generation sequencing, they were divided into EM mutation group (EM-mut, n = 75) and EM wild-type group (EM-wt, n = 130). The EM-mut group showed a higher positive rate of minimal residual disease (MRD) on treatment day24 and before consolidation therapy (P = 0.026, 0.020). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that EM-mut was an independent adverse factor for overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) (HR = 2.123, 1.742; P = 0.009, 0.007). Survival analysis revealed that the OS and EFS rates were significantly lower in the EM-mut group than in the EM-wt group (3-year OS rate, 45.8% vs. 65.0%, P = 0.0041; 3-year EFS rate, 36.7% vs. 53.2%, P = 0.011). Wound rehabilitation is invariably time-consuming, scar formation further weakens therapeutic efficacy, and detailed mechanisms at the molecular level remain unclear. In this work, a Mo 4/3 B 2- x nanoscaffold was fabricated and utilized for wound healing and scar removing in a mice model, while metabolomics was used to study the metabolic reprogramming of metabolome during therapy at the molecular level. The results showed that transition metal borides, called Mo 4/3 B 2- x nanoscaffolds, could mimic superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase to eliminate excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the wound microenvironment. During the therapeutic process, the Mo 4/3 B 2- x nanoscaffold could facilitate the regeneration of wounds and removal of scars by regulating the biosynthesis of collagen, fibers, and blood vessels at the pathological, imaging, and molecular levels. Subsequent metabolomics study revealed that the Mo 4/3 B 2- x nanoscaffold effectively ameliorated metabolic disorders in both wound and scar microenvironments through regulating ROS-related pathways including the amino acid metabolic process (including glycine and serine metabolism and glutamate metabolism) and the purine metabolic process. This study is anticipated to illuminate the potential clinical application of the Mo 4/3 B 2- x nanoscaffold as an effective therapeutic agent in traumatic diseases and provide insights into the development of analytical methodology for interrogating wound healing and scar removal-related metabolic mechanisms.

Tiny NiSnO3 nanoparticles with the assistance of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) are prepared to uniformly and stably "bond" on the surface of graphene to form a stable NiSnO3/RGO-PVP structure. At the same time, the excellent performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with the use of NiSnO3/RGO-PVP structure is verified through a dual combination of experiment and theory. The resulting NiSnO3/RGO-PVP structure enhanced the performance of LIBs with high cycling stability and better rate capability; even after undergoing rate performance tests at different high current densities, the NiSnO3/RGO-PVP electrode can still reach a capacity of 624 mA h g-1 at 200 mA g-1 after 400 cycles. The superior electrochemical performance of NiSnO3/RGO-PVP nanocomposites can be attributed to the synergistic effects between tiny NiSnO3 nanoparticles synthesized with the assistance of PVP and RGO, which can be verified through first-principles calculations based on DFT. The charge transfer between NiSnO3 and RGO through an electron density difference indicates a strong interaction between the two. Meanwhile, the low adsorption energies (-3.914, -0.77, and -0.65 eV), low diffusion barriers (0.025, 0.49, and 0.141 eV), and high diffusion coefficients (1.79 × 10-3, 5.38 × 10-11, and 2.97 × 10-5 cm2 s-1) of lithium ions at three different positions indicate the excellent rate performance of the NiSnO3/RGO-PVP heterostructure, which is consistent with experimental results. Background: Synthetic lethality offers a promising strategy for cancer treatment by targeting genetic vulnerabilities unique to tumor cells, leading to selective tumor cell death. However, single-gene knockout screens often miss functional redundancy due to paralog genes. Multiplex CRISPR systems, including various Cas9 and Cas12a platforms, have been developed to assay genetic interactions, yet no systematic comparison of method to identify synthetic lethality from CRISPR screens has been conducted., Results: We evaluated data from four in4mer CRISPR/Cas12a screens in cancer cell lines, using three bioinformatic approaches to identify synthetic lethal interactions: delta log fold change (dLFC), Z-transformed dLFC (ZdLFC), and rescaled dLFC (RdLFC). Both ZdLFC and RdLFC provided more consistent identification of synthetic lethal pairs across cell lines compared to the unscaled dLFC method., Conclusions: The ZdLFC method offers a robust framework for scoring synthetic lethal interactions from paralog screens, providing consistent results across different cell lines without requiring a training set of known positive interactors.

The mitochondrial distribution and morphology family 33 gene ( MDM33 ) regulates mitochondrial homeostasis by mediating the mitochondrial fission process in yeast. The wheat head blight Fusarium graminearum contains an FgMdm33 protein that is orthologous to Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mdm33, albeit its function remains unknown. We have reported here the roles of FgMdm33 in regulating fungal morphogenesis, mitochondrial morphology, autophagy, apoptosis, and fungal pathogenicity. The Δ Fgmdm33 mutants generated through a homologous recombination strategy in this study exhibited defects in terms of mycelial growth, conidia production, and virulence. Hyphal cells lacking FgMDM33 displayed elongated mitochondria and a dispensable respiratory-deficient growth phenotype, indicating the possible involvement of FgMDM33 in mitochondrial fission. The Δ Fgmdm33 mutants displayed a remarkable reduction in the proteolysis of GFP-FgAtg8, whereas the formation of autophagic bodies in the hyphal cells of mutants was recorded under the induction of mitophagy. In addition, the transcriptional expression of the apoptosis-inducing factor 1 gene ( FgAIF1 ) was significantly upregulated in the Δ Fgmdm33 mutants. Cumulatively, these results indicate that FgMDM33 is involved in mitochondrial fission, non-selective macroautophagy, and apoptosis and that it regulates fungal growth, conidiation, and pathogenicity of the head blight pathogen.

Detection of cancer-related exosomes in body fluids has become a revolutionary strategy for early cancer diagnosis and prognosis prediction. We have developed a two-step targeting detection method, termed PS-MIPs-NELISA SERS, for rapid and highly sensitive exosomes detection. In the first step, a phospholipid polar site imprinting strategy was employed using magnetic PS-MIPs (phospholipids-molecularly imprinted polymers) to selectively isolate and enrich all exosomes from urine samples. In the second step, a nanozyme-linked immunosorbent assay (NELISA) technique was utilized. We constructed Au/Na 7 PMo 11 O 39 nanoparticles (NPs) with both surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) property and peroxidase catalytic activity, followed by the immobilization of CD9 antibodies on the surface of Au/Na 7 PMo 11 O 39 NPs. The Au/Na 7 PMo 11 O 39 -CD9 antibody complexes were then used to recognize CD9 proteins on the surface of exosomes enriched by magnetic PS-MIPs. Lastly, the high sensitivity detection of exosomes was achieved indirectly via the SERS activity and peroxidase-like activity of Au/Na 7 PMo 11 O 39 NPs. The quantity of exosomes in urine samples from pancreatic cancer patients obtained by the PS-MIPs-NELISA SERS technique showed a linear relationship with the SERS intensity in the range of 6.21 × 10 7 -2.81 × 10 8 particles/mL, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 5.82 × 10 7 particles/mL. The SERS signal intensity of exosomes in urine samples from pancreatic cancer patients was higher than that of healthy volunteers. Objective: We aim to investigate the potential roles of key genes in the development of lupus nephritis (LN), screen key biomarkers, and construct the lncRNA XIST/miR-381-3P/STAT1 axis by using bioinformatic prediction combined with clinical validation, thereby providing new targets and insights for clinical research., Methods: Gene expression microarrays GSE157293 and GSE112943 were downloaded from the GEO database to obtain differentially expressed genes (DEGs), followed by enrichment analyses on these DEGs, which were enriched and analyzed to construct a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network to screen core genes. The lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network was predicted and constructed based on the miRNA database. 37 female patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were recruited to validate the bioinformatics results by exploring the diagnostic value of the target ceRNA axis in LN by dual luciferase and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC)., Results: The data represented that a total of 133 differential genes were screened in the GSE157293 dataset and 2869 differential genes in the GSE112943 dataset, yielding a total of 26 differentially co-expressed genes. Six core genes (STAT1, OAS2, OAS3, IFI44, DDX60, and IFI44L) were screened. Biological functional analysis identified key relevant pathways in LN. ROC curve analysis suggested that lncRNA XIST, miR-381-3P, and STAT1 could be used as potential molecular markers to assist in the diagnosis of LN., Conclusion: STAT1 is a key gene in the development of LN. Background: The advancement of laparoscopic technology has broadened the application of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) for treating pancreatic head and ampullary tumors. Despite its benefits, postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) and postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) remain significant complications. Ligamentum teres hepatis wrapping around the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) stump show limitations in reducing POPF and PPH., Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing LPD from January 2016 to October 2023, We compared the effectiveness of the two-parts wrapping (the ligamentum teres hepatis wrapping of the gastroduodenal artery stump and the omentum flap wrapping of the pancreatojejunal anastomosis) and ligamentum teres hepatis wrapping around the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) in reducing postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) and postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH), using propensity score matching for the analysis., Results: A total of 172 patients were analyzed, showing that the two-parts wrapping group significantly reduced the rates of overall and severe complications, POPF, and PPH compared to ligamentum teres hepatis wrapping around the GDA group. Specifically, the study found lower rates of grade B/C POPF and no instances of PPH in the two-parts wrapping group, alongside shorter postoperative hospital stays and drainage removal times. These benefits were particularly notable in patients with soft pancreatic textures and pancreatic duct diameters of < 3 mm., Conclusion: The two-parts wrapping technique significantly reduce the risks of POPF and PPH in LPD, offering a promising approach for patients with soft pancreas and pancreatic duct diameter of < 3 mm., (© 2024. BRCA1, a breast cancer susceptibility gene, has emerged as a central mediator that brings together multiple signaling complexes in response to DNA damage. The A, B, and C complexes of BRCA1, which are formed based on their phosphorylation-dependent interactions with the BRCA1-C-terminal domains, contribute to the roles of BRCA1 in DNA repair and cell cycle checkpoint control. However, their functions in DNA damage response remain to be fully appreciated. Specifically, there has been no systematic investigation of the roles of BRCA1-A, -B, and -C complexes in the regulation of BRCA1 localization and functions, in part because of cellular lethality associated with loss of CtIP protein, which is an essential component in BRCA1-C complex. To systematically investigate the functions of these complexes in DNA damage response, we depleted a key component in each of these complexes. We used the degradation tag system to inducibly deplete endogenous CtIP and obtained a series of RAP80/FANCJ/CtIP single-, double-, and triple-knockout cells. We showed that loss of BRCA1-B/FANCJ and BRCA1-C/CtIP, but not BRCA1-A/RAP80, resulted in reduced cell proliferation and increased sensitivity to DNA damage. BRCA1-C/CtIP and BRCA1-A/RAP80 were involved in BRCA1 recruitment to sites of DNA damage. However, BRCA1-A/RAP80 was not essential for damage-induced BRCA1 localization. Instead, RAP80/H2AX and CtIP have redundant roles in BRCA1 recruitment. Altogether, our systematic analysis uncovers functional differences between BRCA1-A, -B, and -C complexes and provides new insights into the roles of these BRCA1-associated protein complexes in DNA damage response and DNA repair., (© 2024. The dysregulation of the Janus family tyrosine kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) is closely related to acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), whereas the clinical value of phosphorylated STAT5 (pSTAT5) remains elusive. Herein we performed a prospective study on clinical significance of flow cytometry-based pSTAT5 in adult B-ALL patients. A total of 184 patients were enrolled in the Precision-Classification-Directed-Target-Total-Therapy (PDT)-ALL-2016 cohort between January 2018 and December 2021, and STAT5 phosphorylation was detected by flow cytometry at diagnosis. Based on flow-pSTAT5, the population was classified into pSTAT5 low (113/184, 61.1%) and pSTAT5 high (71/184, 38.9%). Overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) were inferior in pSTAT5 high patients than in those with pSTAT5 low (OS, 44.8% vs. 65.2%, p = 0.004; EFS, 23.5% vs. 52.1%, p < 0.001), which was further confirmed in an external validation cohort. Furthermore, pSTAT5 plus flow-based minimal residual disease (MRD) postinduction defines a novel risk classification as being high risk (HR, pSTAT5 high  + MRD+), standard risk (SR, pSTAT5 low  + MRD-) and others as moderate-risk group. Three identified patient subgroups are distinguishable with disparate survival curves (3-year OS rates, 36.5%, 56.7% and 76.3%, p < 0.001), which was confirmed on multivariate analysis (hazard ratio 3.53, p = 0.003). Disease diagnostics and surveillance increasingly highlight the importance of portable, cost-effective, and sensitive point-of-care (POC) detection of nucleic acids. Here, we report a CRISPR/Cas13a-responsive and RNA-bridged DNA hydrogel capillary sensor for the direct and visual detection of specific RNA with high sensitivity. The capillary sensor was simply prepared by loading RNA-cross-linking DNA hydrogel film (∼0.2 mm ± 0.02 mm) at the end of a capillary. When CRISPR/Cas13a specifically recognizes the target RNA, the RNA bridge in the hydrogel film is cleaved by the trans -cleavage activity of CRISPR/Cas13a, increasing the permeability of the hydrogel film. Different concentrations of target RNA activate different amounts of Cas13a, cleaving different amounts of the RNA bridge in the hydrogel and causing corresponding changes in the permeability of the hydrogel. Therefore, samples containing different amounts of the target RNA travel to different distances in the capillary. Visual reading of the distance provides quantitative detection of the RNA target without the need for any nucleic acid amplification or auxiliary equipment. The technique was successfully used for the determination of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA in clinical nasopharyngeal (NP) swab and saliva samples. Easily quantifiable distance using a ruler eliminates the need for any optical or electrochemical detection equipment, making this assay potentially useful for POC and on-site applications.

Accumulating evidence supports the concept that DNA damage response targeted therapies can improve antitumor immune response by increasing the immunogenicity of tumor cells and improving the tumor immune microenvironment. Ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) is a core component of the DNA repair system. Although the ATM gene has a significant mutation rate in many human cancers, including colorectal, prostate, lung, and breast, it remains understudied compared with other DDR-involved molecules such as PARP and ATR. Here, we found that either gene knockout or drug intervention, ATM inhibition activated the cGAS/STING pathway and augmented MHC class I in CRC cells, and these effects could be amplified by radiation. Furthermore, we found that MHC class I upregulation induced by ATM inhibition is dependent on the activation of the NFκB/IRF1/NLRC5 pathway and independent of STING. Animal experiments have shown increasing infiltration and cytotoxic function of T cells and better survival in ATM-deficient tumors. This work indicated that ATM nonsense mutation predicted the clinical benefits of radiotherapy combined with immune checkpoint blockade for patients with CRC. The clinical application of polymyxin B (PMB) is limited by its nephrotoxic effects, making the reduction of PMB-induced nephrotoxicity has become a pressing concern for clinicians. Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC), known for its beneficial characteristics in biological functions, presents an attractive option for intervention therapy to mitigate PMB-induced nephrotoxicity. However, the underlying mechanism of how THC mitigates PMB-induced nephrotoxicity is still poorly understood. Here, we first evaluated the potential of THC intervention therapy to mitigate PMB-induced nephrotoxicity in an in vitro model of PMB-induced cell injury. Moreover, we demonstrated that THC effectively protected HK-2 cells from PMB-induced apoptosis by using cell counting kit-8 and flow cytometry assay. THC could also suppress PMB-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress via PERK/eIF2α/ATF4/CHOP pathway. In addition, using PERK inhibitor GSK2606414 to inhibit ER stress also alleviated PMB-induced apoptosis. Taken together, these findings provide novel insights that THC possesses the ability to alleviate PMB-induced nephrotoxicity by inhibiting the ER stress-mediated PERK/eIF2α/ATF4/CHOP axis, which sheds light on the benefits of THC as an intervention strategy to reduce PMB-induced nephrotoxicity, thus providing a potential avenue for improved clinical outcomes in patients receiving PMB treatment., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

An autoencoder for video anomaly detection task is a type of algorithm with the primary purpose of learning an "informative" representation of the normal data that can be used for identifying the abnormal data by learning to reconstruct a set of input observations. Based on the encoding-decoding structure, we explore a novel dual ForkNet architecture that can dissociate and process the spatio-temporal representation. It is well-known in the information theory community that most autoencoders coding processes are inevitably accompanied by a certain loss of information. In this dual ForkNet, we focus on mitigating the information loss problem and propose a novel architectural recalibration approach, which we term the "Informetrics Recalibration" (IR). It can adaptively recalibrate latent feature representation by explicitly modeling the similarity between the corresponding feature maps of encoder and decoder, and retain more useful semantic information to generate greater differentiation between normal and abnormal events. Additionally, because the structure of the autoencoder itself determines the difficulty to obtain deep semantic information, we introduce a Secondary Encoder (SE) in each ForkNet, so as to recalibrate target features responses of latent feature representation. Our model is easy to be trained and robust to be applied, because it basically consists of some ResNet blocks without using complicated modules. Objective: Anoikis is a kind of programmed cell death that is triggered when cells lose contact with each other or with the matrix. However, the potential value of anoikis-related genes (ARGs) in keloid (KD) has not been investigated. Approach : We downloaded three keloid fibroblast (KF) RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and obtained 338 ARGs from a search of the GeneCards database and PubMed articles. Weighted correlation network analysis was used to construct the coexpression network and obtain the KF-related ARGs. The LASSO-Cox method was used to screen the hub ARGs and construct the best prediction model. Then, GEO single-cell sequencing datasets were used to verify the expression of hub genes. We used whole RNA-seq for gene-level validation and the correlation between KD immune infiltration and anoikis. Results : Our study comprehensively analyzed the role of ARGs in KD for the first time. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis identified six hub ARGs ( HIF1A , SEMA7A , SESN1 , CASP3 , LAMA3 , and SIK2 ). A large number of miRNAs participate in the regulation of hub ARGs. In addition, correlation analysis revealed that ARGs were significantly correlated with the infiltration levels of multiple immune cells in patients with KD. Innovation : We explored the expression characteristics of ARGs in KD, which is extremely important for determining the molecular pathways and mechanisms underlying KD. Conclusions : This study provides a useful reference for revealing the characteristics of ARGs in the pathogenesis of KD. The identified hub genes may provide potential therapeutic targets for patients. This study provides new ideas for individualized therapy and immunotherapy.

Protein function prediction is crucial for understanding species evolution, including viral mutations. Gene ontology (GO) is a standardized representation framework for describing protein functions with annotated terms. Each ontology is a specific functional category containing multiple child ontologies, and the relationships of parent and child ontologies create a directed acyclic graph. Protein functions are categorized using GO, which divides them into three main groups: cellular component ontology, molecular function ontology, and biological process ontology. Therefore, the GO annotation of protein is a hierarchical multilabel classification problem. This hierarchical relationship introduces complexities such as mixed ontology problem, leading to performance bottlenecks in existing computational methods due to label dependency and data sparsity. To overcome bottleneck issues brought by mixed ontology problem, we propose ProFun-SOM, an innovative multilabel classifier that utilizes multiple sequence alignments (MSAs) to accurately annotate gene ontologies. ProFun-SOM enhances the initial MSAs through a reconstruction process and integrates them into a deep learning architecture. It then predicts annotations within the cellular component, molecular function, biological process, and mixed ontologies. Our evaluation results on three datasets (CAFA3, SwissProt, and NetGO2) demonstrate that ProFun-SOM surpasses state-of-the-art methods. This study confirmed that utilizing MSAs of proteins can effectively overcome the two main bottlenecks issues, label dependency and data sparsity, thereby alleviating the root problem, mixed ontology. During malaria infection, Plasmodium sporozoites, the fast-moving stage of the parasite, are injected by a mosquito into the skin of the mammalian host. In the skin, sporozoites need to migrate through the dermal tissue to enter the blood vessel. Sporozoite motility is critical for infection but not well understood. Here, we used collagen hydrogels with tunable fiber structures, as an in vitro model for the skin. After injecting sporozoites into the hydrogel, we analyzed their motility in three-dimension (3D). We found that sporozoites demonstrated chiral motility, in that they mostly follow right-handed helical trajectories. In high-concentration collagen gel, sporozoites have lower instantaneous speed, but exhibit straighter tracks compared to low-concentration collagen gel, which leads to longer net displacement and faster dissemination. In the Arctic Ocean, variations in the colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) have important value and significance. This study proposed and evaluated a novel method by combining the Google Earth Engine with a multilayer back-propagation neural network to retrieve CDOM concentration. This model performed well on the testing data and independent validation data (R 2  = 0.76, RMSE = 0.37 m -1 , MAPD = 35.43 %), and it was applied to Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images. The CDOM distribution in the Arctic Ocean and its main sea areas was first depicted during the ice-free period from 2002 to 2021, with average CDOM concentration in the range of 0.25 and 0.31 m -1 . High CDOM concentration appeared in coastal areas affected by rivers on the Siberian side. Background: The ladybeetle, Coccinella septempunctata, an important predator, is widely used to control aphids, whiteflies, mites, thrips, and lepidopteran pests. Diapause control technology is key to extending C. septempunctata shelf-life and commercialization. Lipid accumulation is a major feature of reproductive diapause, but the function of AKH signaling as a regulator of lipid mobilization in reproductive diapause remains unclear. This study aimed to identify and characterize AKH and AKHR genes, and clarify their functions in reproductive diapause., Results: The relative expression levels of CsAKH and CsAKHR were the highest in the head and fat body, respectively, and were significantly decreased under diapause conditions, both in developmental stages and tissues (head, midgut, fat body, and ovary). Furthermore, CsAKH and CsAKHR expression was increased significantly after juvenile hormone (JH) injection, but CsMet silencing significantly inhibited CsAKH and CsAKHR expression, whereas CsMet knockdown blocked the induction effect of JH. CsAKH and CsAKHR knockdown significantly reduced water content, increased lipid storage, and promoted the expression of genes related to lipid synthesis, but significantly blocked ovarian development, and induced forkhead box O (FOXO) gene expression in C. septempunctata under reproduction conditions. Objective: To explore the complex mechanisms of keloid, new approaches have been developed by different strategies. However, conventional treatment did not significantly reduce the recurrence rate. This study aimed to identify new biomarkers and mechanisms for keloid progression through bioinformatics analyses., Methods: In our study, microarray datasets for keloid were downloaded from the GEO database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by R software. Multiple bioinformatics tools were used to identify hub genes, and reverse predict upstream miRNAs and lncRNA molecules of target hub genes. Finally, the total RNA-sequencing technique and miRNA microarray were combined to validate the identified genes., Results: Thirty-one DEGs were screened out and the upregulated hub gene SPP1 was finally identified, which was consistent with our RNA-sequencing analysis results and validation dataset. In addition, a ceRNA network of mRNA (SPP1)-miRNA (miR-181a-5p)-lncRNA (NEAT1, MALAT1, LINC00667, NORAD, XIST and MIR4458HG) was identified by the bioinformatics databases. The results of our miRNA microarray showed that miR-181a-5p was upregulated in keloid, also we found that the lncRNA NEAT1 could affect keloid progression by retrieving the relevant literature., Conclusions: We speculate that SPP1 is a potential candidate biomarker and therapeutic target for patients with keloid, and NEAT1/miR-181a-5p/SPP1 might be the RNA regulatory pathway that regulates keloid formation.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and precision of using a 3D-printed template for femoral tunnel placement in guiding the optimal positioning of the Internal anatomical stop and Low tension maintenance (IDEAL) bone tunnel during single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction., Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 40 patients who underwent arthroscopic single-bundle ACL reconstruction at our hospital between April 2021 and November 2021. In the direct vision group, the IDEAL bone tunnel was positioned using radiofrequency localization directly visualized at the stump. In the 3D-printed positioning group, preoperative CT scans and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data were employed. Following the Quadrant method by Bernard, the femoral tunnel's depth was set at 25% and its height at 29%. Postoperative plain CT scans enabled the reconstruction of 3D models for both groups. The accuracy of femoral tunnel placement was then compared., Results: The central locations of the bone tunnels in the direct vision group were at a mean depth of 25.74 ± 1.84% and a height of 29.22 ± 2.97%. In the 3D printing localization group, these values were 25.39 ± 2.98% for depth and 28.89 ± 2.50% for height, respectively. No significant differences were found in tunnel positioning between the groups. Both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC) and Lysholm scores postoperatively, with no significant differences observed 12 months post-surgery., Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that 3D printing-assisted arthroscopic IDEAL point femoral tunnel positioning and conventional arthroscopic positioning are feasible and effective for ACL reconstruction. Study Design: Anatomical study., Objective: This study aimed to elaborate on the anatomical characteristics of the medial branch of the lumbar dorsal rami and to discuss its possible clinical significance., Summary of Background Data: Radiofrequency ablation targeting the medial branch of the lumbar dorsal rami has been increasingly used in the clinical management of facetogenic low back pain (FLBP). Nonetheless, attention is also being given to complications such as atrophy of the lumbar soft tissues and muscles. Therefore, a more detailed understanding of the innervation pattern on the facet joint may improve the precision of nerve ablation therapy for FLBP., Methods: An anatomical study of eight human specimens was carried out. The anatomic characteristics of the medial branch were observed and recorded., Results: The medial branch originates from the lumbar dorsal rami, running close to the root of the posterolateral side of the superior articular process of the inferior cone. When passed through the mamillo-accessory ligament, it turns direction to the medial and caudal side, running in the multifidus muscle. In our study, each medial branch sent out two to five branches along the way. All the medial branches in L1-L4 gave off one to two small branches when crossing the facet joint and innervated the joint of the lower segment. Nineteen medial branches (23.75%) gave off recurrent branches to innervate the joint at the upper segment., Conclusion: The anatomical features of the medial branch remain similar in each lumbar segment. There are two types of joint branches, including the articular fibers that emanate from the medial branch as it runs along the medial border of the facet joint and the recurrent branch from the medial branch that innervates the upper facet joint. Background: The basic helix-loop-helix family member e41 (BHLHE41) is frequently dysregulated in tumors and plays a crucial role in malignant progression of various cancers. Nevertheless, its specific function and underlying mechanism in bladder cancer (BCa) remain largely unexplored., Methods: The expression levels of BHLHE41 in BCa tissues and cells were examined by qRT-PCR and western blot assays. BCa cells stably knocking down or overexpressing BHLHE41 were constructed through lentivirus infection. The changes of cell proliferation, cell cycle distribution, migration, and invasion were detected by CCK-8, flow cytometry, wound healing, transwell invasion assays, respectively. The expression levels of related proteins were detected by western blot assay. The interaction between BHLHE41 and PYCR1 was explored by co-immunoprecipitation analysis., Results: In this study, we found that BHLHE41 was lowly expressed in bladder cancer tissues and cell lines, and lower expression of BHLHE41 was associated with poor overall survival in bladder cancer patients. Functionally, by manipulating the expression of BHLHE41, we demonstrated that overexpression of BHLHE41 significantly retarded cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and induced cell cycle arrest in bladder cancer through various in vitro and in vivo experiments, while silence of BHLHE41 caused the opposite effect. Mechanistically, we showed that BHLHE41 directly interacted with PYCR1, decreased its stability and resulted in the ubiquitination and degradation of PYCR1, thus inactivating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Rescue experiments showed that the effects induced by BHLHE41 overexpression could be attenuated by further upregulating PYCR1., Conclusion: BHLHE41 might be a useful prognostic biomarker and a tumor suppressor in bladder cancer. Background: Exploring potential biomarkers for predicting clinical outcomes and developing targeted therapies for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is of utmost importance. This study aimed to investigate the expression pattern of the thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP)/nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) pathway and its role in the prognosis of AML patients. Methods: In this study, we examined the prognostic value of TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway in AML patients using microarray data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and transcriptome data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to develop a prognostic model and validated the results by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in a validation cohort of 26 AML patients and 18 healthy individuals from Jinan University (JNU) database. Results: Analysis of the GSE13159 database revealed that TXNIP , interleukin 1 beta ( IL1B ) within the TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway were significantly upregulated and caspase1 ( CASP1 ) was downregulated in AML patients ( TXNIP , P = 0.031; IL1B , P = 0.042; CASP1 , P = 0.038). Compared to high NLRP3 expression, AML patients with low NLRP3 expression had a longer overall survival (OS) in the GSE12417 dataset ( P = 0.004). Moreover, both the training and validation results indicated that lower TXNIP , NLRP3 , and IL1B expression were associated with favorable prognosis (GSE12417, P = 0.009; TCGA, P = 0.050; JNU, P = 0.026). According to the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, this model demonstrated a sensitivity of 84% for predicting three-year survival. Background: Cancer-induced pre-metastatic niches (PMNs) play a decisive role in promoting metastasis by facilitating angiogenesis in distant sites. Evidence accumulates suggesting that microRNAs (miRNAs) exert significant influence on angiogenesis during PMN formation, yet their specific roles and regulatory mechanisms in gastric cancer (GC) remain underexplored., Methods: miR-605-3p was identified through miRNA-seq and validated by qRT-PCR. Its correlation with the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis was analyzed in GC. Functional assays were performed to examine angiogenesis both in vitro and in vivo. The related molecular mechanisms were elucidated using RNA-seq, immunofluorescence, transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, luciferase reporter assays and bioinformatics analysis., Results: miR-605-3p was screened as a candidate miRNA that may regulate angiogenesis in GC. Low expression of miR-605-3p is associated with shorter overall survival and disease-free survival in GC. miR-605-3p-mediated GC-secreted exosomes regulate angiogenesis by regulating exosomal nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3) derived from GC cells. Mechanistically, miR-605-3p reduced the secretion of exosomes by inhibiting vesicle-associated membrane protein 3 (VAMP3) expression and affects the transport of multivesicular bodies to the GC cell membrane. At the same time, miR-605-3p reduces NOS3 levels in exosomes by inhibiting the expression of intracellular NOS3. Upon uptake of GC cell-derived exosomal NOS3, human umbilical vein endothelial cells exhibited increased nitric oxide levels, which induced angiogenesis, established liver PMN and ultimately promoted the occurrence of liver metastasis. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer an interesting opportunity for catalysis, particularly for metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) motifs by providing an organized porous structural pattern and well-defined active sites for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), a key need for hydrogen fuel cells and related sustainable energy technologies. In this work, we leverage electrochemical testing with computational models to study the electronic and structural properties in the MOF systems and their relationship to ORR activity and stability based on dual transitional metal centers. The MOFs consist of two M1 metals with amine nodes coordinated to a single M2 metal with a phthalocyanine linker, where M1/M2 = Co, Ni, or Cu. Co-based metal centers, in particular Ni-Co, demonstrate the highest overall activity of all nine tested MOFs. Computationally, we identify the dominance of Co sites, relative higher importance of the M2 site, and the role of layer M1 interactions on the ORR activity. Selectivity measurements indicate that M1 sites of MOFs, particularly Co, exhibit the lowest (<4%), and Ni demonstrates the highest (>46%) two-electron selectivity, in good agreement with computational studies. Direct in situ stability characterization, measuring dissolved metal ions, and calculations, using an alkaline stability metric, confirm that Co is the most stable metal in the MOF, while Cu exhibits notable instability at the M1. Overall, this study reveals how atomistic coupling of electronic and structural properties affects the ORR performance of dual site MOF catalysts and opens new avenues for the tunable design and future development of these systems for practical electrochemical applications.

Electrospinning technology has garnered wide attention over the past few decades in various biomedical applications including drug delivery, cell therapy, and tissue engineering. This technology can create nanofibers with tunable fiber diameters and functionalities. However, the 2D membrane nature of the nanofibers, as well as the rigidity and low porosity of electrospun fibers, lower their efficacy in tissue repair and regeneration. Recently, new avenues have been explored to resolve the challenges associated with 2D electrospun nanofiber membranes. The perception of drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), particularly in infrared videos, is crucial for effective anti-UAV tasks. However, existing datasets for UAV tracking have limitations in terms of target size and attribute distribution characteristics, which do not fully represent complex realistic scenes. To address this issue, we introduce a generalized infrared UAV tracking benchmark called Anti-UAV410. The benchmark comprises a total of 410 videos with over 438 K manually annotated bounding boxes. To tackle the challenges of UAV tracking in complex environments, we propose a novel method called Siamese drone tracker (SiamDT). SiamDT incorporates a dual-semantic feature extraction mechanism that explicitly models targets in dynamic background clutter, enabling effective tracking of small UAVs. The SiamDT method consists of three key steps: Dual-Semantic RPN Proposals (DS-RPN), Versatile R-CNN (VR-CNN), and Background Distractors Suppression. These steps are responsible for generating candidate proposals, refining prediction scores based on dual-semantic features, and enhancing the discriminative capacity of the trackers against dynamic background clutter, respectively. Extensive experiments conducted on the Anti-UAV410 dataset and three other large-scale benchmarks demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed SiamDT method compared to recent state-of-the-art trackers.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of intravenous anesthetic drugs on fertilization rate in subjects receiving oocyte retrieval by assisted reproduction technology (ART)., Methods: A retrospective cohort study was designed. The clinical information of subjects who received oocyte retrieval procedure was collected. The subjects were divided into two groups based on the type of anesthesia used: the no-anesthesia group and the intravenous anesthesia group. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted. Fertilization rate was compared between the two groups before and after PSM., Results: A total of 765 subjects were divided into two groups: the no-anesthesia group (n = 482) and the intravenous anesthesia group (n = 283). According to propensity scores, 258 pairs of subjects were well matched, and the baseline data between the two groups were not significantly different (P > 0.05). Fertilization rate was 77% in the intravenous anesthesia group, and 76% in the no-anesthesia group, without significant between-group difference (P = 0.685). Before matching, Poisson regression analysis showed no effect of intravenous anesthetic drugs on fertilization rate (RR = 0.859, 95%CI: 0.59 to 1.25, P = 0.422). After matching, no difference was found either (RR = 0.935, 95%CI: 0.67 to 1.29, P = 0.618)., Conclusion: Intravenous anesthetic drugs may exert no effects on fertilization rate in subjects receiving ART., (© 2024. Artificial intelligence has demonstrated notable advancements in the realm of visual inspection and defect detection in substations. Nevertheless, practical application presents challenges, with issues arising from the dynamic shooting environment and limited dataset resulting in suboptimal defect identification accuracy and instability. To address these concerns, a pioneering approach based on hybrid pruning YOLOv5 and multiscale data augmentation is proposed for enhancing defect detection in substations. Initially, an enhanced multiscale data augmentation method is proposed. The improved multiscale data augmentation mitigates the impact of the time-varying shooting environment on recognition accuracy and enhances defect detection precision. Subsequently, YOLOv5 is employed for training and detecting defects within multi-scale image data. To alleviate the potential destabilizing effects of YOLOv5's large-scale parameters on model stability, a new model pruning method is implemented. This method strategically prunes parameters to bolster the model's defect identification accuracy. Introduction: γδ T cells recognize and exert cytotoxicity against tumor cells. They are also considered potential immune cells for immunotherapy. Our previous study revealed that the altered expression of immune checkpoint T-cell immunoreceptor with immunoglobulin and ITIM domain (TIGIT) on γδ T cells may result in immunosuppression and is possibly associated with a poor overall survival in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, whether γδ T-cell memory subsets are predominantly involved and whether they have a relationship with clinical outcomes in patients with AML under the age of 65 remain unclear., Methods: In this study, we developed a multicolor flow cytometry-based assay to monitor the frequency and distribution of γδ T-cell subsets, including central memory γδ T cells (T CM γδ), effector memory γδ T cells (T EM γδ), and T EM expressing CD45RA (T EMRA γδ), in peripheral blood from 30 young (≤65 years old) patients with newly diagnosed non-acute promyelocytic leukemia (also known as M3) AML (AMLy-DN), 14 young patients with AML in complete remission (AMLy-CR), and 30 healthy individuals (HIs)., Results: Compared with HIs, patients with AMLy-DN exhibited a significantly higher differentiation of γδ T cells, which was characterized by decreased T CM γδ cells and increased T EMRA γδ cells. A generally higher TIGIT expression was observed in γδ T cells and relative subsets in patients with AMLy-DN, which was partially recovered in patients with AMLy-CR. Furthermore, 17 paired bone marrow from patients with AMLy-DN contained higher percentages of γδ and TIGIT+ γδ T cells and a lower percentage of T CM γδ T cells. Photocatalytic reactions using copper-based nanomaterials have emerged as a new paradigm in green technology. Selective photocatalysis is very important for improving energy utilization efficiency, and in order to directional improve catalytic selectivity, it is necessary to understand the mechanism of interfacial reactions at the molecular level. Therefore, a unique bifunctional Cu-CuBr substrate is first fabricated via an electrochemical method, which overcomes the instability of traditional copper-based materials and endows high surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensitivity and photocatalytic performance and can be stored stably for more than a year. Further modification of the surface with Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) containing carboxyl functional groups can significantly tune the surface properties of the substrate. This increases the adsorption of cationic dyes to improve the SERS effect, and 10 - 10 M methylene blue can easily be detected with this substrate. Surprisingly, in-situ SERS monitoring of the interfacial photocatalytic dehalogenation reaction of aromatic halides through its intrinsic SERS effect reveal two competing selective reaction pathways, self-coupling and hydrogenation. Typically, the SERS spectra reveal that the latter's selectivity was greatly enhanced after MOFs modification, and the yield rate of the hydrogenated product increased from 27.6 % to 46.9 % (selectivity increased from 32.7 % to 51.5 %). Poly(ADP-ribose)ylation or PARylation by PAR polymerase 1 (PARP1) and dePARylation by poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase (PARG) are equally important for the dynamic regulation of DNA damage response. PARG, the most active dePARylation enzyme, is recruited to sites of DNA damage via pADPr-dependent and PCNA-dependent mechanisms. Targeting dePARylation is considered an alternative strategy to overcome PARP inhibitor resistance. However, precisely how dePARylation functions in normal unperturbed cells remains elusive. To address this challenge, we conducted multiple CRISPR screens and revealed that dePARylation of S phase pADPr by PARG is essential for cell viability. Loss of dePARylation activity initially induced S-phase-specific pADPr signaling, which resulted from unligated Okazaki fragments and eventually led to uncontrolled pADPr accumulation and PARP1/2-dependent cytotoxicity. Moreover, we demonstrated that proteins involved in Okazaki fragment ligation and/or base excision repair regulate pADPr signaling and cell death induced by PARG inhibition. In addition, we determined that PARG expression is critical for cellular sensitivity to PARG inhibition. Additionally, we revealed that PARG is essential for cell survival by suppressing pADPr. Nowadays, highly active and stable alkaline bifunctional electrocatalysts toward water electrolysis that can work at high current density (≥1000 mA cm -2 ) are urgently needed. Herein, Mn-doped RuO 2 (Mn x Ru 1-x O 2 ) nanofibers (NFs) are constructed to achieve this object, presenting wonderful hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performances with the overpotentials of only 269 and 461 mV at 1 A cm -2 in 1 m KOH solution, and remarkably stability under industrial demand with 1 A cm -2 , significantly better than the benchmark Pt/C and commercial RuO 2 electrocatalysts, respectively. More importantly, the assembled Mn 0.05 Ru 0.95 O 2 NFs||Mn 0.05 Ru 0.95 O 2 NFs electrolyzer toward overall water splitting reaches the current density of 10 mA cm -2 with a cell voltage of 1.52 V and also delivers an outstanding stability over 150 h of continuous operation, far surpassing commercial Pt/C||commercial RuO 2 , RuO 2 NFs||RuO 2 NFs and most previously reported exceptional electrolyzers. Theoretical calculations indicate that Mn-doping into RuO 2 can significantly optimize the electronic structure and weaken the strength of O─H bond to achieve the near-zero hydrogen adsorption free energy (ΔG H* ) value for HER, and can also effectively weaken the adsorption strength of intermediate O * at the relevant sites, achieving the higher OER catalytic activity, since the overlapping center of p-d orbitals is closer to the Fermi level., (© 2023 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

The property of vaporization phase transition in liquid oxygen face seals is a key factor affecting the stability of mechanical face seals in many fields, especially under cryogenic conditions. Here, a numerical model based on the saturated vapor pressure is established to investigate the vaporization phase transition property of liquid oxygen sealing film. The novelty of this model is to take the influence of heat transfer and face distortions into consideration at the same time. The pressure and temperature distributions as well as face distortions are calculated, and then the property of vaporization phase transition and sealing performance are analyzed. It is found that spiral grooves may lead to the complex film temperature distributions and irregular vaporization distributions. With the increase in seal temperature and decrease in seal pressure, the vaporization area extends from the low-pressure side to the grooves area, and the vaporization rate increases rapidly. The more important thing is that the vaporization often brings a drastic fluctuation and non-monotonic change in opening force. Specifically, with the increase inin seal temperature from 55 K to 140 K, the opening force fluctuates violently, and the fluctuation range is more than 50%, showing an obvious instability. Finally, this study provides a design range of pressure and temperature values for liquid oxygen face seals. In these ranges, this kind of face seals can have a stable operation, which is beneficial to the practice engineering related to the complex properties of sealing fluid.

The treatment of chromium-contaminated soil in seasonal frozen soil areas has been the subject of recent interest. Polyurethane (PU), as a polymer material with excellent freeze-thaw resistance and abrasion resistance, has the potential to solidify Chromium-Contaminated soil in seasonal frozen soil areas. However, there is a lack of research on the mechanism of PU involved in solidifying/stabilizing chromium-contaminated soil in seasonal frozen regions from the perspective of pore structure and functional group coordination bonds. In this study, the leaching behavior of PU with different contents under different freeze-thaw cycles was analyzed, and the mechanism of PU in seasonal frozen regions was explored from the perspective of pores and functional groups by combining various microscopic characterization methods. The results show that PU can effectively resist the deterioration of chromium-contaminated soil after freeze-thaw cycles and can better prevent the harm of secondary leaching. The leaching concentration of chromium ion is only 1.09 mg/L, which is below China's regulatory limits. PU is beneficial for inhibiting the expansion of ice crystals in chromium-contaminated soil in seasonal frozen soil areas. PU solidifies chromium by physical encapsulation and complexation reactions. The amide functional groups, methyl-CH 3 and isocyanate groups in PU play a leading role in the complexation with chromium. Although the freeze-thaw cycle will destroy the coordination bond between the PU functional group and chromium, chromium cannot break through the bond of PU film. This study confirmed the feasibility of using PU to solidify Chromium-Contaminated soil in seasonal frozen soil areas, which can provide research support and reference for in situ engineering in the future.

State-to-state photodissociation dynamics of D 2 S in its first absorption band were explored by utilizing recently developed diabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs). Quantum dynamics calculations, involving the first two strongly coupled 1 A ″ states, were executed employing a Chebyshev real wavepacket method. The nonadiabatic channel via the conical intersection (CI) is facile, direct, and fast, leading to the production of rotationally and vibrationally cold SD( X̃ 2 Π). The calculated absorption spectrum, product state distributions, and angular distributions are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results, although some discrepancies exist at 193.3 nm. Compared with H 2 S, there are obvious isotope effects on rotational state distributions for D 2 S photodissociation in its first absorption band. Moreover, we scrutinize the variation of product state distributions as a function of photon energy and the vibrational mediated photodissociation of the parent molecule. Due to the diverse shapes of the three fundamental vibrational wave functions, photoexcited wavepackets access distinct segments of the upper-state PES, resulting in a disparate absorption spectrum and ro-vibrational distributions via the nonadiabatic transition. This study provides a comprehensive figure of the isotopic effect and wavelength dependence on the photofragmentation behaviors from D 2 S photodissociation, which should attract more experimental and theoretical attention to this prototypical system.

Transition metal oxides are widely used as Fenton-like catalysts in the treatment of organic pollutants, but their synthesis usually requires a high temperature. Herein, an all-solid-state synthesis method controlled by graphene was used to prepare a double pyramid stacked CoO nano-crystal at a low temperature. The preparation temperature decreased by 200 °C (over 30% reduction) due to the introduction of graphene, largely reducing the reaction energy barrier. Interestingly, the corresponding degradation rate constants ( k obs ) of this graphene-supported pyramid CoO nano-crystals for organic molecules after their adsorption were over 2.5 and 35 times higher than that before adsorption and that of free CoO, respectively. This high catalytic efficiency is attributed to the adsorption of pollutants at the surface by supporting graphene layers, while free radicals activated by CoO can directly and rapidly contact and degrade them. These findings provide a new strategy to prepare low carbon-consuming transition metal oxides for highly efficient Fenton-like catalysts.

Based on the assumption of point-by-point local linearity, the changeable moving window-standard normal variable (CMW-SNV) was proposed as a reasonable improvement of the classical SNV. The three examples of quantitative and qualitative visible-near-infrared (Vis-NIR) analysis, quantifications of soil organic matter and corn meal moisture, and discriminant of rice seeds identification, were used to validate the effects of the CMW-SNV, SNV and equal segmentation SNV (ES-SNV) methods. The ES-SNV is another improvement of the SNV, but its algorithm would cause artificial discontinuities of the corrected spectrum. The SNV, ES-SNV and CMW-SNV corrected spectra were used to establish partial least squares (PLS) or partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models respectively. For soil and corn meal datasets in modeling, the CMW-SNV-PLS models were both significantly better than the global SNV-PLS models; the root mean square errors of prediction in modeling (SEP M ) values had the relative decrease of 26.4% and 6.6% respectively. For rice seeds dataset in modeling, the CMW-SNV-PLS-DA model was significantly better than the global SNV-PLS-DA model; the total recognition-accuracy rates in modeling (RAR M ) value increased by 2.1%. For all three datasets, the CMW-SNV models were better than (or close to) ones of the ES-SNV models. The equidistant combination (EC) and wavelength step-by-step phase-out (WSP) methods were used to perform wavelength selection on the CMW-SNV corrected spectra, determining the optimal EC-WSP-PLS or EC-WSP-PLS-DA models. In independent validation of three datasets, the high precision and high recognition accuracy rates validation results were all obtained. The CMW-SNV was a localized natural improvement of the classic global SNV method, and its correction maintained continuity of the spectra.
