The ongoing co-circulation of multiple severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strains necessitates advanced methods such as high-throughput multiplex pseudovirus systems for evaluating immune responses to different variants, crucial for developing updated vaccines and neutralizing antibodies (nAbs). We have developed a quadri-fluorescence (qFluo) pseudovirus platform by four fluorescent reporters with different spectra, allowing simultaneous measurement of the nAbs against four variants in a single test. qFluo shows high concordance with the classical single-reporter assay when testing monoclonal antibodies and human plasma. Utilizing qFluo, we assessed the immunogenicities of the spike of BA.5, BQ.1.1, XBB.1.5, and CH.1.1 in hamsters. An analysis of cross-neutralization against 51 variants demonstrated superior protective immunity from XBB.1.5, especially against prevalent strains such as "FLip" and JN.1, compared to BA.5. Background: Three-dimensional pseudo-continuous arterial spin-labeling (3D pCASL) with dual postlabeling delay (PLD) captures both early and delayed cerebral blood flow (CBF), yet its potential in reflecting blood flow regulation in hydrocephalus patients remains uncertain. This study investigated the hemodynamic characteristics in patients with hydrocephalus and whether the difference in cerebral blood flow using short and long PLDs (ΔCBF = CBFPLD =2.5 s - CBFPLD =1.5 s) could reflect cerebral regulation and further aimed to demonstrate the associations between regional ΔCBF and the degree of ventricular dilatation., Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive patients with hydrocephalus and control participants attending The Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from December 2017 to December 2022. The CBF in 18 brain regions was manually delineated by two radiologists. Regional CBF and ΔCBF were compared via covariance analyses. The associations between ΔCBF and the degree of ventricular dilatation were investigated using linear regression analyses and interaction analysis., Results: In total, 58 patients with communicating hydrocephalus, 57 patients with obstructive hydrocephalus, and 52 controls were analyzed. CBF of the hydrocephalus groups was lower than that of the control group at the shorter PLD. CBF was higher at a longer PLD, with no difference between the hydrocephalus groups and the control group in some regions. The hydrocephalus groups showed a higher ΔCBF compared to the control group. Furthermore, in the left medial watershed (10.6±5.66 vs. 7.01±5.88 mL/100 g/min; P=0.038), communicating hydrocephalus exhibited greater ΔCBF than did obstructive hydrocephalus. ΔCBF of the right posterior external watershed [adjusted β: 0.276; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.047-0.505; P=0.019] and right parietal cortex (adjusted β: 0.277; 95% CI: 0.056-0.498; P=0.015) in the obstructive hydrocephalus group and ΔCBF of the left internal watershed (adjusted β: 0.274; 95% CI: 0.013-0.536; P=0.040) in the communicating hydrocephalus group were associated with the degree of ventricular dilatation, respectively., Conclusions: Patients with hydrocephalus showed cerebral regulation in maintaining adequate CBF, resulting in longer arterial transit times. Coronaviruses employ various strategies for survival, among which the activation of endogenous or exogenous apoptosis stands out, with viral proteins playing a pivotal role. Notably, highly pathogenic coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV exhibit a greater array of non-structural proteins compared to low-pathogenic strains, facilitating their ability to induce apoptosis via multiple pathways. Moreover, these viral proteins are adept at dampening host immune responses, thereby bolstering viral replication and persistence. This review delves into the intricate interplay between highly pathogenic coronaviruses and apoptosis, systematically elucidating the molecular mechanisms underpinning apoptosis induction by viral proteins. Furthermore, it explores the potential therapeutic avenues stemming from apoptosis inhibition as antiviral agents and the utilization of apoptosis-inducing viral proteins as therapeutic modalities. Research Question: Does euploidy status differ among patients of different ages treated with progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) or gonadotrophin releasing hormone antagonist (GnRH-a) protocols?, Design: Patients undergoing PGT-A (n = 418; 440 cycles) were enrolled and grouped according to female age (<35 years and ≥35 years). Protocols were as follows: PPOS: <35 years (n = 131; 137 cycles); ≥35 years (n = 72; 80 cycles); GnRH-a: <35 years (n = 149; 152 cycles); ≥35 years (n = 66; 71 cycles)., Results: For cycles treated with PPOS in the older group, rates of euploid blastocyst per metaphase Ⅱ oocyte (15.48% versus 10.47%) and per biopsied blastocyst (54.94% versus 40.88%) were significantly higher than those treated with GnRH-a (P < 0.05). The mosaic rate per biopsied blastocyst was significantly lower for cycles treated with PPOS than cycles treated with GnRH-a (8.64% versus 23.36%) (P < 0.001). In the younger group, no significant difference was found between treatments (P > 0.05). In older and younger groups, the drug to inhibit LH surge was cheaper for cycles treated with PPOS compared with GnRH-a (P < 0.001). Generalized estimation equations based on binomial distribution female age and euploidy rate was significantly negatively correlated for all participants (β -0.109, 95% CI -0.183 to -0.035, P = 0.004), and between GnRH-a protocol (reference: PPOS) and the euploidy rate in the older group (β -0.126, 95% CI -0.248 to -0.004, P = 0.042). Introduction: Previous studies demonstrated that wedge resection is sufficient for ground glass-dominant lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with tumour diameter ≤2 cm, however, the optimal surgical type for ground glass-dominant LUAD with tumour diameter of 2-3 cm remains unclear. The purpose of this trial is to investigate the safety and efficacy of segmentectomy for ground glass-dominant invasive LUAD with tumour size of 2-3 cm., Methods and Analysis: We initiated a phase III trial to investigate whether segmentectomy is suitable for ground glass-dominant invasive LUAD with tumour size of 2-3 cm. This trial plans to enrol 307 patients from multiple institutions including four general hospitals and two specialty cancer hospitals over a period of 5 years. The primary endpoint is 5 year disease-free survival. Background: Macrophages play a crucial role in the development of cardiac fibrosis (CF). Although our previous studies have shown that glycogen metabolism plays an important role in macrophage inflammatory phenotype, the role and mechanism of modifying macrophage phenotype by regulating glycogen metabolism and thereby improving CF have not been reported., Methods: Here, we took glycogen synthetase kinase 3β (GSK3β) as the target and used its inhibitor NaW to enhance macrophage glycogen metabolism, transform M2 phenotype into anti-fibrotic M1 phenotype, inhibit fibroblast activation into myofibroblasts, and ultimately achieve the purpose of CF treatment., Results: NaW increases the pH of macrophage lysosome through transmembrane protein 175 (TMEM175) and caused the release of Ca 2+ through the lysosomal Ca 2+ channel mucolipin-2 (Mcoln2). At the same time, the released Ca 2+  activates TFEB, which promotes glucose uptake by M2 and further enhances glycogen metabolism. NaW transforms the M2 phenotype into the anti-fibrotic M1 phenotype, inhibits fibroblasts from activating myofibroblasts, and ultimately achieves the purpose of treating CF., Conclusion: Our data indicate the possibility of modifying macrophage phenotype by regulating macrophage glycogen metabolism, suggesting a potential macrophage-based immunotherapy against CF., (© 2024. Ultrasonic rolling is an effective technique for enhancing surface integrity, and surface integrity is closely related to fatigue performance. The process parameters of ultrasonic rolling critically affect the improvement of surface integrity. This study proposes an optimization method for process parameters by combining machine learning (ML) with the NSGA-II. Five ML models were trained to establish relationships between process parameters and surface residual stress, hardness, and surface roughness by incorporating feature augmentation and physical information. The best-performing model was selected and integrated with NSGA-II for multi-objective optimization. Ultrasonic rolling tests based on a uniform design were performed, and a dataset was established. The objective was to maximize surface residual stress and hardness while minimizing surface roughness. For test specimens with an initial surface roughness of 0.54 µm, the optimized process parameters were a static pressure of 900 N, a spindle speed of 75 rpm, a feed rate of 0.19 mm/r, and rolling once. Using optimized parameters, the surface residual stress reached -920.60 MPa, surface hardness achieved 958.23 HV, surface roughness reduced to 0.32 µm, and contact fatigue life extended to 3.02 × 10 7 cycles, representing a 52.5% improvement compared to untreated specimens and an even more significant improvement over without parameter optimization.

The practical, sensitive, and real-time detection of heavy metal ions is an essential and difficult problem. This study presents the design of a unique magnetic electrochemical detection system that can achieve real-time field detection. To enhance the electrochemical performance of the sensor, Fe 2 O 3 @C-800, Co/CoO@/C-600, and CoFe 2 O 4 @C-600 magnetic composites were synthesized using three MOFs precursors by the solvothermal method. And the morphology structure and electrochemical properties of as-prepared magnetic composites were researched by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), specific surface area and porosity analyzer (BET) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The results shown that these composites improve conductivity and stability while preserving the MOFs basic frame structure. Compared with the monometallic MOFs-derived composites, the synergistic effect of the bimetallic composite CoFe 2 O 4 @C-600 can significantly enhance the electrochemical performance of the sensor. The linear range for the detection of lead ions was 0.001-60 μM, and the detection limit was 0.0043 μM with a sensitivity of 22.22 μA μM·cm -2 by differential pulse voltammetry. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based drug delivery nanomaterials for cancer therapy have attracted increasing attention in recent years. Here, an enhanced chemodynamic anti-tumor therapy strategy by promoting the Fenton reaction by using core-shell zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)@Fe 3 O 4 as a therapeutic platform is proposed. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is used as a stabilizer of Fe 3 O 4 , which is then decorated on the surface of ZIF-8 via the electrostatic interaction and serves as an efficient Fenton reaction trigger. Meanwhile, the pH-responsive ZIF-8 scaffold acts as a container to encapsulate the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX). The obtained DOX-ZIF-8@Fe 3 O 4 /CMC (DZFC) nanoparticles concomitantly accelerate DOX release and generate more hydroxyl radicals by targeting the lysosomes in cancer cells. In vitro and in vivo studies verify that the DZFC nanoparticles trigger glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4)-dependent ferroptosis via the activation of the c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) signaling pathway, following to achieve the chemo/ferroptosis synergistic anti-tumor efficacy. No marked toxic effects are detected during DZFC treatment in a tumor-bearing mouse model. Introduction: Iodine serves as a crucial precursor for the synthesis of thyroid hormones and plays an import role in both pregnant women and their offspring. The relationships between iodine nutritional status and maternal thyroid function and neonatal outcomes remain inconclusive in areas with adequate iodine nutrition. This study aims to investigate their correlations., Methods: Blood, morning urine and 24-hour urine were collected from the pregnant women to measure thyroid functions, serum iodine concentration (SIC), morning urine iodine concentration (UIC) and 24-hour urine iodine excretion (24-hour UIE). Indicators of their offspring's neonatal indexes were recorded., Results: A total of 559 pregnant women were enrolled in this study. The iodine indicators including Tg, 24-hour UIE and morning UIC were significantly different among the euthyroid pregnant women and those with different thyroid disorders. The levels of FT3, FT4, and SIC exhibited a gradual decline and the concentration of TSH exhibited a gradual increase trend throughout the progression of pregnancy in euthyroid pregnant women. There were no significant differences in neonatal outcomes and neonatal TSH values among euthyroid pregnant women and thyroid disorders pregnant women. SIC had a significant impact on maternal FT4 levels throughout all three trimesters, with varying degrees of importance observed in each trimester. TSH level emerged as the primary determinant of FT4 during the first trimester, while SIC exerted a predominant influence on FT4 levels in the second and third trimesters. The prevalence of thyroid disorders in pregnant women was the lowest when the SIC of pregnant women was probable in the range of 60~70 μg/L, 24-hours UIE was in the range of 250~450 μg, and Tg was in the range of 9~21 μg/L. Maternal TSH exhibited a notable influence on neonatal TSH levels, particularly at the 50th and 75th quantiles. Among the iodine nutritional indicators, SIC and morning UIC demonstrated higher AUC values for abnormal FT4 and TSH, respectively., Discussion: The iodine nutrition status of pregnant women exerts an impact on their thyroid function and prevalence of thyroid disorders, and neonatal TSH was affected by maternal TSH. An imbalance of energy intake and expenditure is commonly considered as the fundamental cause of obesity. However, individual variations in susceptibility to obesity do indeed exist in both humans and animals, even among those with the same living environments and dietary intakes. To further explore the potential influencing factors of these individual variations, male C57BL/6J mice were used for the development of obesity-prone and obesity-resistant mice models and were fed high-fat diets for 16 weeks. Compared to the obesity-prone mice, the obesity-resistant group showed a lower body weight, liver weight, adipose accumulation and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. 16S rRNA sequencing, which was conducted for fecal microbiota analysis, found that the fecal microbiome's structural composition and biodiversity had changed in the two groups. The genera Allobaculumbiota , SMB53 , Desulfovibrio and Clostridium increased in the obesity-prone mice, and the genera Streptococcus , Odoribacter and Leuconostoc were enriched in the obesity-resistant mice. Using widely targeted metabolomics analysis, 166 differential metabolites were found, especially those products involved in arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism, which were significantly reduced in the obesity-resistant mice. Moreover, KEGG pathway analysis exhibited that AA metabolism was the most enriched pathway. Significantly altered bacteria and obesity-related parameters, as well as AA metabolites, exhibited strong correlations. Overall, the phenotypes of the obesity-prone and obesity-resistant mice were linked to gut microbiota and AA metabolism, providing new insight for developing an in-depth understanding of the driving force of obesity resistance and a scientific reference for the targeted prevention and treatment of obesity.

Background: Calcification of the aortic valve leads to increased leaflet stiffness and consequently results in the development of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD). However, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of calcification remain unclear. Here, we identified a novel aortic valve calcification-associated PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA; AVCAPIR) that increases valvular calcification and promotes CAVD progression., Methods: Using piRNA sequencing, we identified piRNAs contributing to the pathogenesis of CAVD that we termed AVCAPIRs. High-cholesterol diet-fed ApoE -/- mice with AVCAPIR knockout were used to examine the role of AVCAPIR in aortic valve calcification (AVC). Gain- and loss-of-function assays were conducted to determine the role of AVCAPIR in the induced osteogenic differentiation of human valvular interstitial cells. To dissect the mechanisms underlying AVCAPIR-elicited procalcific effects, we performed various analyses, including an RNA pulldown assay followed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing, and RNA sequencing. RNA pulldown and RNA immunoprecipitation assays were used to study piRNA interactions with proteins., Results: We found that AVCAPIR was significantly upregulated during AVC and exhibited potential diagnostic value for CAVD. AVCAPIR deletion markedly ameliorated AVC in high-cholesterol diet-fed ApoE -/- mice, as shown by reduced thickness and calcium deposition in the aortic valve leaflets, improved echocardiographic parameters (decreased peak transvalvular jet velocity and mean transvalvular pressure gradient, as well as increased aortic valve area), and diminished levels of osteogenic markers (Runx2 and Osterix) in aortic valves. These results were confirmed in osteogenic medium-induced human valvular interstitial cells. Using unbiased protein-RNA screening and molecular validation, we found that AVCAPIR directly interacts with FTO (fat mass and obesity-associated protein), subsequently blocking its N 6 -methyladenosine demethylase activity. Further transcriptomic and N 6 -methyladenosine modification epitranscriptomic screening followed by molecular validation confirmed that AVCAPIR hindered FTO-mediated demethylation of CD36 mRNA transcripts, thus enhancing CD36 mRNA stability through the N 6 -methyladenosine reader IGF2BP1 (insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 1). In turn, the AVCAPIR-dependent increase in CD36 stabilizes its binding partner PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9), a procalcific gene, at the protein level, which accelerates the progression of AVC., Conclusions: We identified a novel piRNA that induced AVC through an RNA epigenetic mechanism and provide novel insights into piRNA-directed theranostics in CAVD., Competing Interests: Disclosures None.

Background: nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common liver disease affecting the global population and its impact on human health will continue to increase. Genetic susceptibility is an important factor influencing its onset and progression, and there is a lack of reliable methods to predict the susceptibility of normal populations to NAFLD using appropriate genes., Methods: RNA sequencing data relating to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease was analyzed using the "limma" package within the R software. Differentially expressed genes were obtained through preliminary intersection screening. Core genes were analyzed and obtained by establishing and comparing 4 machine learning models, then a prediction model for NAFLD was constructed. The effectiveness of the model was then evaluated, and its applicability and reliability verified. Finally, we conducted further gene correlation analysis, analysis of biological function and analysis of immune infiltration., Results: By comparing 4 machine learning algorithms, we identified SVM as the optimal model, with the first 6 genes (CD247, S100A9, CSF3R, DIP2C, OXCT 2 and PRAMEF16) as predictive genes. The nomogram was found to have good reliability and effectiveness. Six genes' receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) suggest an essential role in NAFLD pathogenesis, and they exhibit a high predictive value. The mammary gland is a fundamental structure of the breast and plays an essential role in reproduction. Human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs), which are the origin cells of breast cancer and other breast-related inflammatory diseases, have garnered considerable attention. However, isolating and culturing primary HMECs in vitro for research purposes has been challenging due to their highly differentiated, keratinized nature and their short lifespan. Therefore, developing a simple and efficient method to isolate and culture HMECs is of great scientific value for the study of breast biology and breast-related diseases. In this study, we successfully isolated primary HMECs from small amounts of mammary tissue by digestion with a mixture of enzymes combined with an initial culture in 5% fetal bovine serum-DMEM containing the Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y-27632, followed by culture expansion in serum-free keratinocyte medium. This approach selectively promotes the growth of epithelial cells, resulting in an optimized cell yield. The simplicity and convenience of this method make it suitable for both laboratory and clinical research, which should provide valuable insights into these important areas of study.

Tin dioxide (SnO 2 ) is a promising alternative material to graphite anode, but the large volume change induced electrode pulverization issue has limited its application in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In contrast, titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) anode shows high structure stability upon lithium insertion/extraction, but with low specific capacity. To overcome their inherent disadvantages, combination of SnO 2 with TiO 2 and highly conductive carbon material is an effective way. Herein, we report a facile fabrication method of carbon-coated SnO 2 /TiO 2 nanowires (SnO 2 /TiO 2 @C) using tin titanate nanowires as precursor, which are prepared by reacting SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O with layered sodium titanate (Na 2 Ti 3 O 7 ) nanowires in the aqueous solution though the ion exchange between Sn 2+ and Na + . After annealing under argon atmosphere, the hydrothermally carbon-coated tin-titanate nanowires decompose, forming a unique hybrid structure, where ultrafine SnO 2 nanoparticles are uniformly embedded within the TiO 2 substrate with carbon coating. Consequently, the SnO 2 /TiO 2 @C nanowires demonstrate excellent lithium storage capacity with high pseudocapacitance contribution, excellent reversible capacity, and long-term cycling stability (673.7/510.5 mAh/g at 0.5/1.0 A/g after 250/800 cycles), owing to the unique hybrid structure, as the well-dispersion of ultra-small SnO 2 within TiO 2 nanowire substrate with simultaneous carbon coating efficiently suppresses the volume changes of SnO 2 , provides abundant reactive sites for lithium storage, and enhances the electrical conductivity with shortened ion transport distance., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc. The senescence of aortic valve interstitial cells (VICs) plays a critical role in the progression of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD). However, the precise mechanisms underlying the senescence of VICs remain unclear, demanding the identification of a novel target to mitigate this process. Previous studies have highlighted the anti-aging potential of morusin. Thus, this study aimed to explore the therapeutic potential of morusin in CAVD. Cellular experiments reveal that morusin effectively suppresses cellular senescence and cause a shift toward osteogenic differentiation of VICs in vitro. Mechanistically, morusin activate the Nrf2-mediated antiaging signaling pathway by downregulating CCND1 expression and aiding Keap1 degradation through Trim 25. This activation lead to the upregulated expression of antioxidant genes, thus reducing reactive oxygen species production and thereby preventing VIC osteogenic differentiation. In vivo experiments in ApoE -/- mice on a high-fat Western diet demonstrate the positive effect of morusin in mitigating aortic valve calcification. Optical matter (OM) arrays are self-organizing, ordered arrangements of nanometer- to micrometer-size particles, where interparticle forces are mediated by incident and scattered coherent light. The structures that form and their dynamics depend on the properties (e.g., material, size) of the constituent particles, as well as the incident and scattered light. While significant progress has been made toward understanding how the OM arrays are affected by the phase, polarization, and intensity profile of the incident light, the polarization induced in the particles and the light scattered by OM arrays have received less attention. In this paper, we establish the roles of electrodynamic interference, many-body coupling, and induced-polarization concomitant with the coherent light scattered by OM arrays. Experiments and simulations together demonstrate that the spatial profile and directionality of coherent light scattered by OM arrays in the far field are primarily influenced by interference, while electrodynamic coupling (interactions) and the associated polarization induced in the nanoparticle constituents have a quantitative wavelength-dependent effect on the total amount of light scattered by the arrays. Furthermore, the electrodynamic coupling in silver nanoparticle OM arrays is significantly enhanced by constructive interference and increases superextensively with the number of particles in the array. Particle size, and hence polarizability, also has a significant effect on the strength of the coupling. Finally, we simulate larger hexagonal OM arrays of Ag nanoparticles to demonstrate that the electrodynamic coupling and scattering enhancement observed in small OM arrays develop into surface lattice resonances observed in the infinite array limit. To figure out how does SARS-CoV-2 affect sperm parameters and what influencing factors affect the recovery of sperm quality after infection? We conducted a prospective cohort study and initially included 122 men with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The longest time to track semen quality after infection is 112 days and 58 eligible patients were included in our study eventually. We subsequently exploited a linear mixed-effects model to statistically analyze their semen parameters at different time points before and after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Semen parameters were significantly reduced after SARS-CoV-2 infection, including total sperm count (211 [147; 347] to 167 [65.0; 258], P < 0.001), sperm concentration (69.0 [38.8; 97.0] to 51.0 [25.5; 71.5], P < 0.001), total sperm motility (57.5 [52.3; 65.0] to 51.0 [38.5; 56.8], P < 0.001), progressive motility (50.0 [46.2; 58.0] to 45.0 [31.5; 52.8], P < 0.001). The parameters displayed the greatest diminution within 30 days after SARS-CoV-2 infection, gradually recovered thereafter, and exhibited no significant difference after 90 days compared with prior to COVID-19 infection. In addition, the patients in the group with a low-grade fever showed a declining tendency in semen parameters, but not to a significant degree, whereas those men with a moderate or high fever produced a significant drop in the same parameters. Semen parameters were significantly reduced after SARS-CoV-2 infection, and fever severity during SARS-CoV-2 infection may constitute the main influencing factor in reducing semen parameters in patients after recovery, but the effect is reversible and the semen parameters gradually return to normal with the realization of a new spermatogenic cycle., (© 2024. The nitrogen discharge from saline wastewater will cause significant pollution to the environment. As a high-efficiency and low-cost treatment method, biological treatment has a promising application prospect in the removal of nitrogen from high-salt wastewater. However, the inhibitory effect of high salt on microorganisms increases the difficulty of its treatment. This review discusses the influence of salinity on the nitrogen removal process, considering both traditional and novel biological techniques. Common methods to enhance the effectiveness of biological nitrogen removal processes and their mechanisms of action in engineering practice and research, including sludge acclimation and inoculation of halophilic bacteria, are also introduced. An outlook on the future development of biological nitrogen removal processes for high-salt wastewater is provided to achieve environmentally friendly discharge of high-salt wastewater., (© 2024. Straw incorporation has been considered as an effective environmental management application to improve soil erosion resistance (SER) and organic carbon sequestration. SER is useful to evaluate soil erosion subjected to concentrated flow. Nevertheless, few studies have been performed to examine how SER varied with the amount of straw incorporation on sloping croplands in high latitude and cool regions. In the current study, the fixed bed scouring tests were conducted in a large hydraulic flume using undisturbed soil samples taken from Hebei small watershed in the black soil region of Northeast China. The response of SER to different straw incorporation amounts (0, 1.125, 2.25, 4.5, 6.75, 9.0 and 13.5 t ha -1 ) was quantified after three months of straw decomposition. The major influencing factors and the corresponding mechanisms were determined. The findings demonstrated that rill erodibility firstly decreased exponentially with straw incorporation amount (R 2  = 0.93), while it slightly increased when straw incorporation amount was more than 9.0 t ha -1 . Critical shear stress firstly increased logarithmically (R 2  = 0.90) and then slightly decreased when the amount exceeded 9.0 t ha -1 . Compared to the treatment of 0 t ha -1 , rill erodibility reduced by 17.0%-92.8% and critical shear stress increased by 59.6%-127.2% across different treatments of straw incorporation. Rill erodibility had significant and negative correlations with soil organic matter content, aggregate stability, cohesion, root mass density, straw mass density and straw decomposition amount. The key mechanisms for promoting SER were derived by the direct and indirect effects of straw incorporation and its decomposition on soil physicochemical properties and crop roots. The amount of 9.0 t ha -1 was recommended as the optimum amount of straw incorporation in croplands in Northeast China. Hyperspectral imaging is a critical tool for gathering spatial-spectral information in various scientific research fields. As a result of improvements in spectral reconstruction algorithms, significant progress has been made in reconstructing hyperspectral images from commonly acquired RGB images. However, due to the limited input, reconstructing spectral information from RGB images is ill-posed. Furthermore, conventional camera color filter arrays (CFA) are designed for human perception and are not optimal for spectral reconstruction. To increase the diversity of wavelength encoding, we propose to place broadband encoding filters in front of the RGB camera. In this condition, the spectral sensitivity of the imaging system is determined by the filters and the camera itself. To achieve an optimal encoding scheme, we use an end-to-end optimization framework to automatically design the filters' transmittance functions and optimize the weights of the spectral reconstruction network. Simulation experiments show that our proposed spectral reconstruction network has excellent spectral mapping capabilities. Additionally, our novel joint wavelength encoding imaging framework is superior to traditional RGB imaging systems. We develop the deeply learned filter and conduct actual shooting experiments. The spectral reconstruction results have an attractive spatial resolution and spectral accuracy.

Biochar (BC) has a strong potential for activating arsenic (As) in soil; thus, the phytoremediation efficiency of As-polluted soils is enhanced with Pteris vittata L. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the potential of BC to assist in phytoremediation with P. vittata. The effects of BC on physicochemical properties, available As, enzyme activities, and the bacterial community in the rhizosphere soil were investigated, and the biomass, physiology, and As uptake of P. vittata were analyzed. The results indicated that applying BC facilitated available As in the P. vittata rhizosphere soil, and the phytoremediation efficiency percentage increased in the As-polluted soils, such as 3.80% and 8.01% under the 2% and 5% BC treatments compared to the control, respectively. Phytoremediation with P. vittata and BC significantly improved soil organic matter content, available N, P, and K, enzyme activities, and the bacterial community. BC promoted Streptomyces (26.6-54.2%) and Sphingomonas (12.3-30.8%) abundance which regulated the growth and As uptake by P. vittata. Moreover, applying BC increased the biomass, and As uptake by P. vittata. In recent years, emerging pollutants, including nonylphenol (NP) and nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPE), have become a prominent topic. These substances are also classified as persistent organic pollutants. NP significantly affects the hormone secretion of organisms and exhibits neurotoxicity, which can affect the human hippocampus. Therefore, various countries are paying increased attention to NP regulation. NPEs are precursors of NPs and are widely used in the manufacture of various detergents and lubricants. NPEs can easily decompose into NPs, which possess strong biological and environmental toxicity. This review primarily addresses the distribution, toxicity mechanisms and performance, degradation technologies, management policies, and green alternative reagents of NPs and NPEs. Traditional treatment measures have been unable to completely remove NP from wastewater. Bioleaching has gained significant attention as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach for extracting metals from low-grade ores and industrial byproducts. The application of acidophiles in bioleaching has been extensively studied. Among the various mechanisms leaching microorganisms utilize, quorum sensing (QS) is pivotal in regulating their life activities in response to population density. QS has been confirmed to regulate bioleaching, including cell morphology, community structure, biofilm formation, and cell metabolism. Potential applications of QS have also been proposed, such as increasing mineral leaching rates by adding signaling molecules. This review is helpful for comprehensively understanding the role of QS in bioleaching and promoting the practical application of QS-based strategies in bioleaching process optimization.

Introduction: Studies on the relationship between environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are limited. In this study, we aimed to clarify the association between ETS at different trimesters of pregnancy and the risk of GDM among non-smoking pregnant women., Methods: A total of 16,893 non-smoking mothers from the Southwest Birth Cohort, China, were included in the final analyses. Exposure and outcome measures included self-reported ETS status at different trimesters of pregnancy and GDM diagnosis. Multivariable logistic regression models were constructed to estimate the association between ETS and GDM., Results: The prevalence of ETS exposure was 25.7%. Compared with no ETS, ever ETS had an increased risk of GDM, with an adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence intervals) of 1.21 (1.09, 1.33). The association remained consistent at different trimesters of pregnancy ETS exposure. In the last trimester and with continuous ETS exposure, the risk of GDM increased significantly with the increase in the duration of the exposure. The risk of GDM associated with ever ETS during pregnancy significantly increased in mothers over 30 years old and pre-pregnancy overweight (P for interaction <0.05)., Conclusions: ETS exposure at different trimesters of pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of GDM among non-smoking pregnant women. Non-destructive and interference-free monitoring of pesticide residue on the surface of fruits is still a challenge. Herein, a SERS aptasensor based on a flexible substrate was established for effective carbendazim (CBZ) detection on apple peel. In this sensor, electrospun PVDF/CQDs film served as a flexible supporting substrate. AuNS@Ag was liquid-liquid self-assembled on the PVDF/CQDs film to form a uniform and highly active SERS substrate. During the detection process, aptamers specifically capture the CBZ molecules, while nitrile-mediated Raman tag (MMBN) linked to AuNPs provided optical anti-interference signals. The results showed that the developed sensor had high sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, and stability for CBZ detection. Mycotoxin contamination of food crops is a global challenge due to their unpredictable occurrence and severe adverse health effects on humans. Therefore, it is of great importance to develop effective tools to prevent the accumulation of mycotoxins through the food chain. The use of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-assisted biosensors for detecting mycotoxin in complex foodstuffs has garnered great interest due to the significantly enhanced sensitivity and accuracy. Within such a context, this review includes the fundamentals and recent advances (2020-2023) in the area of mycotoxin monitoring in food matrices using MNP-based aptasensors and immunosensors. In this review, we start by providing a comprehensive introduction to the design of immunosensors (natural antibody or nanobody, random or site-oriented immobilization) and aptasensors (techniques for aptamer selection, characterization, and truncation). Meanwhile, special attention is paid to the multifunctionalities of MNPs (recoverable adsorbent, versatile carrier, and signal indicator) in preparing mycotoxin-specific biosensors. Further, the contribution of MNPs to the multiplexing determination of various mycotoxins is summarized. Finally, challenges and future perspectives for the practical applications of MNP-assisted biosensors are also discussed. Background: Associations between adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) and the improvement in survival for patients with pT2N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received R0 resection remain controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the value of ACT for patients with pT2N0M0 NSCLCs, and to identify the subgroups who could benefit from ACT., Methods: Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate independent prognostic factors. High-risk factor (HRF) included visceral pleural invasion (VPI), lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and poor differentiation/undifferentiated tumors., Results: Of the 899 patients, 277 (30.8%) patients received ACT. More younger patients (p < 0.001) and male patients (p = 0.007) received ACT. With the increase of pathological tumor size (p < 0.001) and the number of HRFs (p < 0.001), there was a significant rise in the proportion of patients receiving ACT. For all patients, ACT could not improve recurrence-free survival (RFS) (p = 0.672) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.306). For patients with pathological stage IIA or radiological pure-solid tumors, ACT could significantly improve the OS (p = 0.011 and p = 0.037, respectively), and multivariate analysis revealed that ACT was an independent prognostic factor for patients with pathological stage IIA (p = 0.005). ACT could improve the OS significantly in patients with pathological stage IB pure-solid lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) (p = 0.043)., Conclusion: ACT was valuable for patients with pathological stage IIA (pT2bN0M0) and patients with radiological pure-solid LUAD of pathological stage IB. Using Mendelian Randomization (MR) and large-scale Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) data, this study aimed to investigate the potential causative relationship between testosterone and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels and the onset of several cancers, including pathway enrichment analyses of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with cancer allowed for a comprehensive bioinformatics approach, which offered a deeper biological understanding of these relationships. The results indicated that increased testosterone levels in women were associated with a higher risk of breast and cervical cancers but a lower risk of ovarian cancer. Conversely, increased testosterone was linked to lower stomach cancer risk for men, whereas high SHBG levels were related to decreased risks of breast and prostate cancers. The corresponding genes of the identified SNPs, as revealed by pathway enrichment analysis, were involved in significant metabolic and proliferative pathways. These findings emphasize the need for further research into the biological mechanisms behind these associations, paving the way for potential targeted interventions in preventing and treating these cancers.

This paper proposes an optimized design of the Alvarez lens by utilizing a combination of three fifth-order X - Y polynomials. It can effectively minimize the curvature of the lens surface to meet the manufacturing requirements. The phase modulation function and aberration of the proposed lens are evaluated by using first-order optical analysis. Simulations compare the proposed lens with the traditional Alvarez lens in terms of surface curvature, zoom capability, and imaging quality. The results demonstrate the exceptional performance of the proposed lens, achieving a remarkable 26.36% reduction in the maximum curvature of the Alvarez lens (with a coefficient A value of 4×10 -4 and a diameter of 26 mm) while preserving its original zoom capability and imaging quality.

Objectives: To assess the associations of both the level of circulating vitamin D and the ratio of omega-3 fatty acids to total fatty acids (omega-3 %) with mortality among participants with rheumatoid arthritis., Study Design: This study included 4,293 and 1,157 adults with rheumatoid arthritis identified by self-report from the UK Biobank for the analysis of vitamin D and omega-3 %, respectively., Main Outcome Measures: Death outcomes were obtained from the National Health Service Information Centre (England and Wales) and the National Health Service Central Register Scotland (Scotland). Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios and 95 % confidence intervals for mortality., Results: The medians (25th-75th percentiles) of serum 25(OH)D and omega-3 % were 45.8 (31.4-62.9) nmol/L and 4.1 % (3.3 %-5.1 %), respectively. During 52,612 person-years of follow-up in the 25(OH)D group, 502 all-cause deaths occurred; and during 14,192 person-years of follow-up in the omega-3 % group, 122 all-cause deaths occurred. Rheumatoid arthritis patients with vitamin D levels of at least 20 nmol/L had an approximately 40-50 % lower risk of all-cause mortality than those with severe vitamin D deficiency (hazard ratio ranging from 0.51 to 0.62, all P values < 0.05). Each unit increase in natural log-transformed 25(OH)D was associated with a 22 % reduction in the risk of all-cause mortality, and a U-shaped association between serum 25(OH)D and all-cause mortality was found. However, the association between omega-3 % and mortality was not significant., Conclusions: Lower serum 25(OH)D concentration, but not omega-3 %, was significantly associated with higher all-cause mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 , as one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), possesses excellent structural stability during lithiation/delithiation cycling and higher theoretical capacity. However, Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 faces some challenges, such as insufficient ion diffusion coefficient and poor electronic conductivity. To overcome these problems, this study investigates the effect of applying nanostructure engineering on Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 and the lithium storage behaviors. We successfully synthesized hollow Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 nanospheres (h-TNO NSs) via solvothermal method using phenolic resin nanospheres as the template. The effects of using a template or not and the annealing atmospheres on the microstructures of the as-prepared Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 are investigated. Different nanostructures (porous Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 nanoaggregates (p-TNO NAs) without a template and core-shelled Ti 2 Nb 10 O 29 @C nanospheres (cs-TNO@C NSs)) were formed through annealing in Ar. When examined as anodes for LIBs, the h-TNO NSs electrode with hollow spherical structure displayed a better lithium storage performance. Compared to its counterparts, p-TNO NAs and cs-TNO@C NSs, h-TNO NSs electrode exhibited a higher reversible capacity of 282.5 mAh g -1 at 1C, capacity retention of 79.5% (i.e., 224.6 mAh g -1 ) after 200 cycles, and a higher rate capacity of 173.1 mAh g -1 at 10C after 600 cycles. The excellent electrochemical performance of h-TNO NSs is attributed to the novel structure. The hollow nanospheres with cavities and thin shells not only exposed more active sites and improved ion diffusion, but also buffered the volume variation upon cycling and facilitated electrolyte penetration. Objective: To conduct a systematic review to determine if there are exercise mobile applications (apps) that can produce evidence-based, individualized exercise plans., Materials and Methods: We searched the Apple Store and Google Play for exercise apps with terms related to exercise and health. Exercise apps were eligible if they: (1) had a ≥4 out of 5 overall rating with ≥1000 reviews; (2) were free to download; and (3) were not gender specific. Exercise apps were evaluated via the evidence-based exercise prescription (ExRx) standards of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Heart Association. For the exercise app evaluation criteria, an app was included if it (1) was evidence-based; (2) contained a preparticipation health screening protocol; (3) built a cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor profile; (4) prioritized one chronic disease or health condition to focus on; (5) framed the exercise plan by the frequency, intensity, time, and type principle (FITT) of ExRx; and (6) specified special considerations., Results: Of the 531 potentially qualifying apps, 219 qualified. The qualifying apps were rarely evidenced-based (0.5%) or had a preparticipation screening protocol (3.7%). Only 27.7% built CVD risk factor profiles. Most apps (64.8%) focused on body image and/or athletic performance. Only 4.3% focused on chronic diseases or health conditions, while the remainder (34.5%) did not disclose a focus. No app framed the exercise plans by the FITT of ExRx. Only 1.4% of the apps specified special considerations., Conclusion: There are no commercially available exercise apps that generate an evidence-based, individualized exercise plan for adults with CVD risk factors.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a fatal form of lung cancer with a poor prognosis. Coagulation system had been confirmed closely related to tumor progression and the hypercoagulable state encouraged the immune infiltration and development of tumor cells, leading to a poor prognosis in cancer patients. However, the use of the coagulation-related genes (CRGs) for prognosis in LUAD has yet to be determined. In this study, we constructed an immune-related signature (CRRS) and identified a potential coagulation-related biomarker (P2RX1)., Methods: We obtained a total of 209 CRGs based on two coagulation-related KEGG pathways, then developed the CRRS signature by using the TCGA-LUAD RNA-seq data via the procedure of LASSO-Cox regression, stepwise-Cox regression, univariate and multivariate Cox regression. Grouped by the CRRS, Kaplan-Meier survival curves and receiver operating characteristic curves were drawn for the training and validation sets, respectively. In addition, single-sample gene set enrichment analysis was exploited to explore immune infiltration level. Moreover, immunophenotypes and immunotherapy grouped by CRRS were further analyzed., Results: We developed an immune-related signature (CRRS) composed of COL1A2, F2, PLAUR, C4BPA, and P2RX1 in LUAD. CRRS was an independent risk factor for overall survival and displayed stable and powerful performance. Additionally, CRRS possessed distinctly superior accuracy than traditional clinical variables and molecular features. Functional analysis indicated that the differentially high expressed genes in the low-risk group significantly enriched in T cell and B cell receptor signaling pathways. The low-risk group was sensitive to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy and displayed abundant immune infiltration and immune checkpoint gene expression. Finally, we identified an independent prognostic gene P2RX1. Low expression of P2RX1 associated with poor overall survival and decreased immune infiltration., Conclusions: Our study revealed a significant correlation between CRRS and immune infiltration. Alvarez lenses are known for their ability to achieve a broad range of optical power adjustment by utilizing complementary freeform surfaces. However, these lenses suffer from optical aberrations, which restrict their potential applications. To address this issue, we propose a field of view (FOV) attention image restoration model for continuous zooming. In order to simulate the degradation of optical zooming systems based on Alvarez lenses (OZA), a baseline OZA is designed where the polynomial for the Alvarez lenses consists of only three coefficients. By computing spatially varying point spread functions (PSFs), we simulate the degraded images of multiple zoom configurations and conduct restoration experiments. The results demonstrate that our approach surpasses the compared methods in the restoration of degraded images across various zoom configurations while also exhibiting strong generalization capabilities under untrained configurations.

Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant has decreased virulence and pathogenicity, yet the number of Omicron infections worldwide is unprecedentedly high, with rather high mortality and severe disease rate. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are particularly vulnerable to the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant and have unique clinical outcomes., Methods: We retrospectively collected data from 2140 hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection from March 29, 2022, to May 17, 2022. Demographic characteristics, ancillary examination results, and clinical treatments were described. Occurrence of critical COVID-19 or death and time of positive-to-negative conversion was defined as primary outcomes. The presence of COVID-19 pneumonia and the usage of respiratory or circulatory support was defined as secondary outcomes. Univariate or multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for primary outcomes., Results: 15.74% of CKD patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant ended up with critical COVID-19 or death. Pre-existing CKD was a risk factor for critical COVID-19 or death and prolonged time of positive-to-negative conversion of SARS-CoV-2. Nirmatrelvir-ritonavir facilitated viral clearance among COVID-19 patients with non-severe CKD., Conclusion: We found patients with CKD and COVID-19 due to Omicron experienced worse clinical outcomes and prolonged time of positive-to-negative conversion of SARS-CoV-2 compared to patients without CKD, which helps rationalize limited medical resources and offers guidance for appropriate clinical treatments., (© 2023. The surface charges of catalysts have intricate influences on the thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical reactions. Herein, we develop a grand-canonical iteration method based on density functional theory calculations to explore the effect of surface charges on reaction kinetics beyond the traditional Butler-Volmer picture. Using the hydrogen evolution reaction on S vacancies of MoS2 as an example, we show how to track the change of surface charge in a reaction and to analyze its influence on the kinetics. Protons adsorb on S vacancies in a tough and charge-insensitive water splitting manner, which explains the observed large Tafel slope. Grand-canonical calculations report an unanticipated surface charge-induced change of the desorption pathway from the Heyrovsky route to a Volmer-Tafel route. During an electrochemical reaction, a net electron inflow into the catalyst may bring two effects, i.e., stabilization of the canonical energy and destabilization of the charge-dependent grand-canonical part. On the contrary, a net outflow of electrons from the catalyst can reverse the two effects. This surface charge effect has substantial impacts on the overpotential and the Tafel slope. Syndrome differentiation and treatment is the basic principle of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to recognize and treat diseases. Accurate syndrome differentiation can provide a reliable basis for treatment, therefore, establishing a scientific intelligent syndrome differentiation method is of great significance to the modernization of TCM. With the development of biomdical text mining technology, TCM has entered the era of intelligence that based on data, and model training increasingly relies on the large-scale labeled data. However, it is difficult to form a large standard data set in the field of TCM due to the low degree of standardization of TCM data collection and the privacy protection of patients' medical records. To solve the above problem, a multi-label deep forest model based on an improved multi-label ReliefF feature selection algorithm, ML-PRDF, is proposed to enhance the representativeness of features within the model, express the original information with fewer features, and achieve optimal classification accuracy, while alleviating the problem of high data processing cost of deep forest models and achieving effective TCM discriminative analysis under small samples. Pteris vittata L. (PV), an arsenic (As) hyperaccumulator, has a potential to extract As from As-polluted soils. Since available As in soils can be taken up by PV, As fraction variation associated rhizosphere environmental characteristics caused by municipal sewage sludge compost (MSSC) could provide possible to strengthen As phytoextraction by PV. In this study, the mechanism of phytoextraction of PV aided by MSSC was revealed from aspect of environmental characteristics of rhizosphere soils and physiological properties of PV. The effect of MSSC on available As in soils was investigated by soil incubation experiment. Furthermore, the influences of MSSC on enzymes activities, communities of soil bacteria and fungi, As concentrations, and As fraction in rhizosphere soils of PV were explored, and then the biomass and As accumulation of PV were examined by greenhouse pot experiments. After 90 days, available As in soil incubation experiment significantly increased by 32.63 %, 43.05 %, and 36.84 % under 2 %, 5 %, and 10 % treatment, respectively, compared with control treatment. Moreover, As concentrations in rhizosphere soils of PV under 2 %, 5 %, and 10 % treatment decreased by 4.62 %, 8.68 %, and 7.47 %, respectively, compared with control treatment. The available nutrients and enzyme activities in rhizosphere soils of PVs were improved under the MSSC treatment. Affected by MSSC, the dominant phylum and genus for both bacterial and fungal communities didn't change, but their relative abundance increased. Additionally, MSSC significantly increased biomass of PV with corresponding mean ranging from 2.82 to 3.42 g in shoot and 1.82 to 1.89 g in root, respectively. And the concentrations of As in shoot and root of PV treated by MSSC increased by 29.04 %-144.7 % and 26.34 %-81.78 %, respectively, in relative to control. Phytoremediation techniques have been widely used in the treatment of heavy metal contaminated soils in recent years, but there is no effective post-treatment method for plant tissues containing heavy metals after remediation. Elsholtzia Harchowensis is a copper hyperaccumulator, commonly distributed in copper mining areas and often used for soil remediation of mine tailings. Moreover, copper-based catalysts are widely used in electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide, which aims to convert carbon dioxide into useful fuels or chemicals. In this study, copper-modified biochar was prepared from Elsholtzia Harchowensis . Its specific surface area can reach as high as 1202.9 m 2 /g, with a certain porous structure and even distribution of copper on the amorphous carbon. Various products (such as carbon monoxide, methane, ethanol, and formic acid) could be obtained from the electrolytic reduction of carbon dioxide by using the as-prepared catalyst. Instantaneous current density of up to 15.3 mA/cm 2 were achieved in 1.0 M KHCO 3 solution at a potential of -0.82 V (vs. RHE). Electrolysis at a potential of -0.32 V (vs. RHE) for 8 h resulted in a stable current of about 0.25 mA/cm 2 , and the Faraday efficiency (FE) of carbon monoxide can reach as high as 74.6%. In addition, electrolysis at a potential of -0.52 V (vs. RHE) for 8 h led to a stable current of about 2.2 mA/cm 2 and a FE of 8.7% for the C 2 product. Comprehensive analysis of spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in soils of China, and associated driving mechanism and health risks is crucial for soil pollution prevention and risk control. In this study, a total of 8 PTEs in agricultural soils of 236 city case data from 31 provinces of China were collected from literatures published between 2000 and 2022. The pollution level, dominant drivers and probabilistic health risks of PTEs were analyzed using geo-accumulation index (I geo ), geo-detector model, and Monte Carlo simulation, respectively. The results indicated a notably accumulation of Cd and Hg, with I geo of 1.13 and 0.63, respectively. Cd, Hg and Pb showed strong spatial heterogeneity, whereas As, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn has no significant differentiation. PM 10 was the dominant driver for accumulation of Cd (0.248), Cu (0.141), Pb (0.108), and Zn (0.232), and PM 2.5 has a significant effect on accumulation of Hg (0.245); however, soil parent material was primary driver for accumulation of As (0.066), Cr (0.113), and Ni (0.149). PM 10 ∩ wind speed accounted for 72.6 % of Cd accumulation, and mining industry ∩ soil parent materials for 54.7 % of As accumulation. Approximately 38.53 %, 23.90 %, and 12.08 % of the hazard index values exceeded 1 for the minors aged 3- < 6, 6- < 12, and 12- < 18 years, respectively; whereas approximately 0.22 %, 0.21 %, 0.20 %, 0.54 % and 0.42 % of the carcinogenic risk values were greater than 1E-04 for individuals aged 3- < 6, 6- < 12, 12- < 18, 18- < 44, and 44- < 70 years, respectively. As and Cd were considered as priority elements for soil pollution prevention and risk control in China. Moreover, the hotspots of PTE pollution and associated health risks were mainly observed in southern, southwestern and central China. Objective: To identify the morphological characteristics together with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hydrodynamics on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging that improve the prediction of foramen magnum decompression (FMD) treatment outcome for Chiari malformations type I (CM-I) patients compared with the CSF hydrodynamics-based model., Methods: This retrospective study included CM-I patients who underwent FMD, phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance, and static MR between January 2018 and March 2022. The relationships of the preoperative CSF hydrodynamic quantifications derived from phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance and morphological measurements from static magnetic resonance imaging, clinical indicators with different outcomes, were analyzed with logistic regression analysis. The outcomes were determined using the Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale. The predictive performance was evaluated with receiver operating characteristic, calibration, decision curves and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, net reclassification index, and integrated discrimination improvement and was compared with CSF hydrodynamics-based model., Results: A total of 27 patients were included. 17 (63%) had improved outcomes and 10 (37%) had poor outcomes. The peak diastolic velocity of the aqueduct midportion (odd ratio, 5.17; 95% confidence interval: 1.08, 24.70; P = 0.039) and the fourth ventricle outlet diameter (odd ratio, 7.17; 95% confidence interval: 1.07, 48.16; P = 0.043) were predictors of different prognoses. The predictive performance improved significantly than the CSF hydrodynamics-based model., Conclusions: Combined CSF hydrodynamic and static morphologic MR measurements can better predict the response to FMD. During March 2022 to January 2023, two Omicron waves hit Shanghai and caused a massive number of reinfections. To better understand the incidence and clinical characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection in Shanghai, China, we conducted a multicenter cohort study. COVID-19 patients first infected with BA.2 (March 1, 2022-May 23, 2022) who were quarantined in Huashan Hospital, Renji Hospital, and Shanghai Jing'an Central Hospital were followed up for reinfection from June 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023. Of 897 primary infections, 148 (16.5%) experienced reinfection. Incidence rate of reinfection was 0.66 cases per 1000 person-days. Female gender (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]= 2.19, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.29-3.83) was a risk factor for reinfection. The four most common symptoms of reinfections during the circulation of BA.5 sublineages were cough (62.59%), sore throat (54.42%), fatigue (48.98%), and fever (42.57%). Having received a booster vaccination was not associated with reduced severity of reinfection in comparison with not having received booster vaccination. After matched 1:1 by age and sex, we found that reinfections with BA.5 sublineages had significantly lower occurrence and severity of fever, fatigue, sore throat, and cough, as compared to primary infections with BA.5 sublineages. SARS-CoV-2 Omicron reinfections were less severe than Omicron primary infections during the circulation of the same subvariant. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA is much higher during HBeAg-positive chronic HBV infection (EP-CBI) than during HBeAg-negative chronic HBV infection (EN-CBI), although the necroinflammation in liver is minimal and the adaptive immune response is similar in both phases. We previously reported that mRNA levels of EVA1A were higher in EN-CBI patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether EVA1A inhibits HBV gene expression and examine the underlying mechanisms. The available cell models for HBV replication and model HBV mice were used to investigate how EVA1A regulates HBV replication and the antiviral activity based on gene therapy. The signaling pathway was determined through RNA sequencing analysis. The results demonstrated that EVA1A can inhibit HBV gene expression in vitro and in vivo. In particular, EVA1A overexpression resulted in accelerated HBV RNA degradation and activation of the PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway, two processes that directly and indirectly inhibiting HBV gene expression. EVA1A is a promising candidate for treating chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Dynamic distortion is one of the most critical factors affecting the experience of automotive augmented reality head-up displays (AR-HUDs). A wide range of views and the extensive display area result in extraordinarily complex distortions. Existing methods based on the neural network first obtain distorted images and then get the predistorted data for training mostly. This paper proposes a distortion prediction framework based on the neural network. It directly trains the network with the distorted data, realizing dynamic adaptation for AR-HUD distortion correction and avoiding errors in coordinate interpolation. Additionally, we predict the distortion offsets instead of the distortion coordinates and present a field of view (FOV)-weighted loss function based on the spatial-variance characteristic to further improve the prediction accuracy of distortion. Experiments show that our methods improve the prediction accuracy of AR-HUD dynamic distortion without increasing the network complexity or data processing overhead.

Background: Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are prioritized in both the Sustainable Development Goal and the Healthy China 2030 Initiatives. Efforts have been devoted to combating NCDs in China. This study examined changes in NCD trajectory., Methods: We described and analyzed the trends in prevalence and control of major NCDs including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia and examined selected main behavioral risk factors in China by sex, age group, and residence using nationally representative CDC survey data. Data included were from the China Chronic Disease Risk Factor Surveillance (CCDRFS, 2013 and 2018) and China National Nutrition Survey (CNNS, 2002, 2010-2013, 2015, and 2020). Annual and relative changes in rates were used. Rural-urban ratio of related indicators was assessed., Findings: NCD-attributed deaths increased from 80.0% in 2002 to 86.6% in 2012, and 88.5% in 2019, with cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes accounted for 47.1%, 24.1%, 8.8%, and 2.5% of deaths in 2019, respectively. Prevalence of obesity (7.1%-16.4%), overweight/obesity (29.9%-50.7%), hypertension (18.8%-27.5%), diabetes (2.6%-11.9%), and dyslipidemia (18.6%-35.6%) all increased from 2002 to 2018. These rates increased faster in rural areas than in urban areas. Rates of awareness, treatment and control of hypertension and diabetes increased very slowly from 2012 to 2018. Most rates were between 30 and 40% with the lowest rate of 11% for hypertension control even in 2018. The rates were worse for rural residents compared to urban residents. Furthermore, many modifiable behavioral risk factors showed little improvement and some became worse over time, including smoking, excessive alcohol use, inadequate vegetable/fruit intake, excessive red meat intake, and physical inactivity., Interpretation: NCD burden in China increased during 2002-2019 despite of the intervention efforts. Hyperspectral imaging attempts to determine distinctive information in spatial and spectral domain of a target. Over the past few years, hyperspectral imaging systems have developed towards lighter and faster. In phase-coded hyperspectral imaging systems, a better coding aperture design can improve the spectral accuracy relatively. Using wave optics, we post an equalization designed phase-coded aperture to achieve desired equalization point spread functions (PSFs) which provides richer features for subsequent image reconstruction. During the reconstruction of images, our raised hyperspectral reconstruction network, CAFormer, achieves better results than the state-of-the-art networks with less computation by substituting self-attention with channel-attention. Our work revolves around the equalization design of the phase-coded aperture and optimizes the imaging process from three aspects: hardware design, reconstruction algorithm, and PSF calibration. Our work is putting snapshot compact hyperspectral technology closer to a practical application.

Serum samples were collected from 54 hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive Chinese patients infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) subgenotype B2 or C2. They were compared for transmission efficiency using same volume of samples or infectivity using same genome copy number. Adding polyethylene glycol (PEG) during inoculation did not increase infectivity of fresh samples but markedly increased infectivity following prolonged sample storage. Differentiated HepaRG cells infected without PEG produced more hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and higher HBsAg/HBeAg ratio than sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP)-reconstituted HepG2 cells infected with PEG. They better supported replication of core promoter mutant in contrast to wild-type (WT) virus by HepG2/NTCP cells. Overall, subgenotype C2 samples had higher viral load than B2 samples, and in general produced more HBeAg, HBsAg, and replicative DNA following same-volume inoculation. Precore mutant was more prevalent in subgenotype B2 and had reduced transmission efficiency. When same genome copy number of viral particles was inoculated, viral signals were not necessarily higher for three WT C2 isolates than four WT B2 isolates. Using viral particles generated from cloned HBV genome, three WT C2 isolates showed slightly reduced infectivity than three B2 isolates. In conclusion, subgenotype C2 serum samples had higher transmission efficiency than B2 isolates in association with higher viral load and lower prevalence of precore mutant, but not necessarily higher infectivity.
