Recently, the utilization of metal halide perovskites in sensing and their application in environmental studies have reached a new height. Among the different metal halide perovskites, cesium lead halide perovskites (CsPbX 3 ; X = Cl, Br, and I) and composites have attracted great interest in sensing applications owing to their exceptional optoelectronic properties. Most CsPbX 3 nanostructures and composites possess great structural stability, luminescence, and electrical properties for developing distinct optical and photonic devices. When exposed to light, heat, and water, CsPbX 3 and composites can display stable sensing utilities. Many CsPbX 3 and composites have been reported as probes in the detection of diverse analytes, such as metal ions, anions, important chemical species, humidity, temperature, radiation photodetection, and so forth. So far, the sensing studies of metal halide perovskites covering all metallic and organic-inorganic perovskites have already been reviewed in many studies. Nevertheless, a detailed review of the sensing utilities of CsPbX 3 and composites could be helpful for researchers who are looking for innovative designs using these nanomaterials. Herein, we deliver a thorough review of the sensing utilities of CsPbX 3 and composites, in the quantitation of metal ions, anions, chemicals, explosives, bioanalytes, pesticides, fungicides, cellular imaging, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic gases, humidity, temperature, radiation, and photodetection. Furthermore, this review also covers the synthetic pathways, design requirements, advantages, limitations, and future directions for this material.

Zika virus (ZIKV) remains a public health concern, with epidemics in endemic regions and sporadic outbreaks in new areas posing significant threats. Several mosquito-borne flaviviruses that can cause human illness, including West Nile, Usutu, and St. Louis encephalitis, have associations with birds. However, the susceptibility of chickens to ZIKV and their role in viral epidemiology is not currently known. We investigated the susceptibility of chickens to experimental ZIKV infection using chickens ranging from 1-day-old chicks to 6-week-old birds. ZIKV caused no clinical signs in chickens of all age groups tested. Viral RNA was detected in the blood and tissues during the first 5 days post-inoculation in 1-day and 4-day-old chicks inoculated with a high viral dose, but ZIKV was undetectable in 6-week-old birds at all timepoints. Minimal antibody responses were observed in 6-week-old birds, and while present in younger chicks, they waned by 28 days post-infection. Innate immune responses varied significantly between age groups. Robust type I interferon and inflammasome responses were measured in older chickens, while limited innate immune activation was observed in younger chicks. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 2 (STAT2) is a major driver of host restriction to ZIKV, and chicken STAT2 is distinct from human STAT2, potentially contributing to the observed resistance to ZIKV infection. The rapid clearance of the virus in older chickens coincided with an effective innate immune response, highlighting age-dependent susceptibility. Our study indicates that chickens are not susceptible to productive ZIKV infection and are unlikely to play a role in the ZIKV epidemiology.

Tissue integrity is sensitive to temperature, tension, age, and is sustained throughout life by adaptive cell-autonomous or extrinsic mechanisms. Safeguarding the remarkably-complex architectures of neurons and glia ensures age-dependent integrity of functional circuits. Here, we report mechanisms sustaining the integrity of C. elegans CEPsh astrocyte-like glia. We combine large-scale genetics with manipulation of genes, cells, and their environment, quantitative imaging of cellular/ subcellular features, tissue material properties and extracellular matrix (ECM). We identify mutants with age-progressive, environment-dependent defects in glial architecture, consequent disruption of neuronal architecture, and abnormal aging. Functional loss of epithelial Hsp70/Hsc70-cochaperone BAG2 causes ECM disruption, altered tissue biomechanics, and hypersensitivity of glia to environmental temperature and mechanics. Glial-cell junctions ensure epithelia-ECM-CEPsh glia association. Modifying glial junctions or ECM mechanics safeguards glial integrity against disrupted BAG2-proteostasis. Overall, we present a finely-regulated interplay of proteostasis-ECM and cell junctions with conserved components that ensures age-progressive robustness of glial architecture., (© 2024. Purpose: The metal present in the implant creates artifacts during the treatment simulation, which impacts the treatment planning and delivery of the prescribed dose to the target and sparing normal tissues. This retrospective study evaluated the uncertainties in the planning and delivery of doses for prosthesis cases with dedicated phantom., Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 11 patients with a hip prosthesis having cervix carcinoma were selected. Two treatment plans were generated on treatment planning system (TPS) for each case. Plan_No_Res was without any beam restriction, and Plan_exit_only was the plan with restricted beam entry through the metallic implant. An indigenous phantom was utilized to verify the accuracy of the treatment. In the phantom, some groves were present, which could be filled by implants that mimic the patient's geometries, like left, right and bilateral femur implants. The delivered doses were recorded using optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLDs), which were placed at different positions in the phantom. The plans were further calculated using megavoltage computed tomography (MVCT) scans acquired during treatment., Results: The patient data showed no significant dose changes between the two planning methods. The treatment time increases from 412.18 ± 86.65 to 427.36 ± 104.80 with P = 0.03 for Plan_No_Res and Plan_exit_only, respectively. The difference between planned and delivered doses of various points across phantom geometries was within ± 9.5% in each case as left, right, and bilateral implant. The variations between OSLDs and MVCT calculated doses were also within ± 10.8%., Conclusion: The study showed the competency of tomotherapy planning for hip prosthesis cases. In recent years, studies on the formulation of nanoemulsions have been the focus of attention due to their potential applicability in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and agricultural industries. Nanoemulsions can be formulated using ingredients approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which assures their safety profiles to a great extent. Bioactive compounds such as essential oils although have strong biological properties and antimicrobial compounds, their usage is restricted due to their high volatility, instability, and hydrophobic nature. Therefore, nanoemulsion as carrier vehicle can be used to encapsulate essential oils to obtain stable and enhanced physicochemical characteristics of the essential oils. Objective: To determine the feasibility, reliability, and acceptability of video teleconference (VTC)-based neuropsychological assessment using Addenbrooke's cognitive examination-III (ACE-III)., Methods: This study was performed from January 2022 to April 2022, during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. We administered ACE-III using video-teleconferencing and compared the scores to face-to-face (FTF) testing for the eligible participants. We also conducted a participant's satisfaction survey of VTC-administered ACE-III compared to FTF-administered ACE-III, using a 7-point Likert scale., Results: We screened 37 participants and 24 (64.9%) successfully underwent ACE-III testing through VTC. We included 20 patients (mean age: 62.7 ± 10 years, mean education: 12.0 ± 4.6 years, 85% men) for final analysis, (who completed both VTC and FTF-administered ACE-III). Nine patients had major neurocognitive disorder (dementia), eight had mild neurocognitive disorder (MCI), and three had subjective cognitive decline (SCD). The two tests were administered at a median gap of 36 (18,74.5) days. The Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) of ACE-3 total scores (0.97) and the subdomain scores was high (>0.8). There was "very low" to "no" bias on the Bland-Altman plots, across all domains. The mean overall satisfaction score was 4.1, indicating that VTC is "as good as" FTF., Conclusions: Results support the feasibility and acceptability of remote administration of ACE-III via VTC. Globally, the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been enormous and unrelenting with ∼6.9 million deaths and ∼765 million infections. This review mainly focuses on the recent advances and potentially novel molecular tools for viral diagnostics and therapeutics with far-reaching implications in managing the future pandemics. In addition to briefly highlighting the existing and recent methods of viral diagnostics, we propose a couple of potentially novel non-PCR-based methods for rapid, cost-effective, and single-step detection of nucleic acids of viruses using RNA mimics of green fluorescent protein (GFP) and nuclease-based approaches. We also highlight key innovations in miniaturized Lab-on-Chip (LoC) devices, which in combination with cyber-physical systems, could serve as ideal futuristic platforms for viral diagnosis and disease management. We also discuss underexplored and underutilized antiviral strategies, including ribozyme-mediated RNA-cleaving tools for targeting viral RNA, and recent advances in plant-based platforms for rapid, low-cost, and large-scale production and oral delivery of antiviral agents/vaccines. Computer-aided detection using Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML) shows tremendous growth in the medical field. Medical images are considered as the actual origin of appropriate information required for diagnosis of disease. Detection of disease at the initial stage, using various modalities, is one of the most important factors to decrease mortality rate occurring due to cancer and tumors. Modalities help radiologists and doctors to study the internal structure of the detected disease for retrieving the required features. ML has limitations with the present modalities due to large amounts of data, whereas DL works efficiently with any amount of data. Hence, DL is considered as the enhanced technique of ML where ML uses the learning techniques and DL acquires details on how machines should react around people. DL uses a multilayered neural network to get more information about the used datasets. This study aims to present a systematic literature review related to applications of ML and DL for the detection along with classification of multiple diseases. A detailed analysis of 40 primary studies acquired from the well-known journals and conferences between Jan 2014-2022 was done. It provides an overview of different approaches based on ML and DL for the detection along with the classification of multiple diseases, modalities for medical imaging, tools and techniques used for the evaluation, description of datasets. Further, experiments are performed using MRI dataset to provide a comparative analysis of ML classifiers and DL models. Introduction: The number of patients for carcinoma cervix with implanted hip prostheses has been increasing worldwide during the past several decades. Technological advancements are useful for delivering higher doses, i.e., dose escalation to the target, but the presence of high-density implanted hip prosthesis creates challenges for the planner., Materials and Methods: A population of 25 patients was selected for the study. Plans were generated using the MONACO treatment planning system keeping the isocenter same. The parameters evaluated for planning target volume (PTV) were D 98% , D 50% , D 2% , D max , D mean , V 107%, and V 110% . Similarly, the parameters D max , D mean , and D 2cc were evaluated for the delineated critical organs. Average monitor units (TMU mean ) were also assessed., Results: D 98% of PTV was 44.51 (standard deviation [SD]: 0.13) Gy, 44.41 (SD: 0.38) Gy, 44.58 (SD: 0.14) Gy, 44.08 (SD: 0.41) Gy and 44.46 (SD: 0.32) Gy for 4F, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), IMRT_WP, volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT), and VMAT_WP techniques, respectively, where WP stands for "without prosthesis". Volume of bowel receiving 45 Gy was 86.82 (SD: 66.38) cm 3 , 6.97 (SD: 5.77) cm 3 , 14.11 (SD: 14.29) cm 3 , 13.31 (SD: 6.57) cm 3 , and 10.31 (SD: 10.94) cm 3 for 4F, IMRT, IMRT_WP, VMAT and VMAT_WP techniques, respectively., Discussion: Radiotherapy is standard care of practice for known cases of cervical malignancies. As per our investigations, VMAT has generated comparable plans in terms of target coverage (D 98% ) as compared to IMRT and 4F techniques (P = 0.015 and P = 0.002) and with prosthesis also (P = 0.024). The mean dose to the bladder was significantly lesser with IMRT and VMAT. Our results highlight that VMAT has reduced the mean dose to the rectum (P = 0.001) in presence of high-density implant. The mean dose to femoral heads was also reduced when compared with the 4-field technique., Conclusion: VMAT has an edge over other techniques in terms of target coverage and sparing of critical organs in the presence of metallic prosthesis. Source Apportionment (SA) techniques are widely used for identifying key sources of air pollution, thereby providing critical inputs for policy measures. Positive Matrix Factorisation (PMF) (Paatero and Tapper, 1994) is a widely used SA technique. PMF uses the speciated concentration data (X) collected over several days and factorises it into source contribution (G) and source profile (F) matrices, albeit under positivity constraint. Towards this end, it involves solving an optimisation problem where the elements of X are weighted by the inverse of the standard deviations of the corresponding errors introduced during the sampling and chemical analysis process. Thus, PMF implicitly assumes that the errors in different elements of the X matrix are uncorrelated. This assumption may not hold since the sampling, and chemical analysis steps deployed in any data-collection campaign will inevitably lead to correlated errors. While there are other existing Non-Negative Matrix Factorisation (NMF) methods in literature that can be potentially used for SA, these also make various restrictive assumptions about the error covariance structure. In this work, we propose a new method called Generalised Non-Negative Matrix Factorisation (GNMF) to fill this gap. In particular, the proposed method is able to incorporate any error covariance matrix without making any restrictive assumptions on its structure. Towards this end, we integrate the full error covariance matrix in the objective function to be minimised to obtain F and G matrices. We derive the corresponding update rules for obtaining these matrices iteratively. To ensure non-negativity, we extend the multiplicative and projected gradient-based ideas available in NMF literature to the proposed GNMF approach. The proposed method subsumes various NMF methods available in literature as special cases. Background Synthetic mesh is the most efficient way to repair groin hernias. However, many patients in low and middle-income countries cannot afford the above-mentioned mesh. This study's goal was to describe the mosquito net mesh's (MNM) safety, viability, complications, and recurrence rate in hernioplasty done in rural populations. Material and methods This study was a single-centre, prospective, descriptive study, conducted in patients >18 years of age, of either gender, with unilateral or bilateral primary inguinal hernias (reducible/irreducible/bilateral hernia), admitted for elective or emergency open inguinal hernia mesh repair. The surgery was performed using reasonably priced (affordable to people of low socioeconomic status) polyethylene mosquito net mesh, which was cut into 8x16 cm rectangles and wrapped in two sealed plastic bags. They were sterilised using the ethylene oxide sterilisation   (EtO) method. The type of hernia (unilateral or bilateral), post-operative pain, and complications were noted. Results Among 400 study participants, the incidence of inguinal hernia was highest in the 60-79 year age group (51.5%). Direct inguinal hernia (67.5 %) was higher compared to indirect inguinal hernia (32.5 %). While a majority of the participants had a hernia on the right side (50%), 164 patients (41%) had a hernia on the left side, and 36 patients (9%) had a bilateral inguinal hernia. The average operative time for unilateral inguinal hernia was 73.96 minutes and for bilateral inguinal hernia was 106.66 minutes. Out of 400 patients, 355 patients (88.75%) had no complications. Among the postoperative patients, 14 patients (3.5%) experienced surgical site infection; 9 patients (2.25%) experienced headache; 5 patients (1.25%) experienced hematoma; 12 patients (3%) experienced urinary retention; and 5 patients (1.25%) experienced testicular pain. The average hospital stay of patients was 4.25 days. Patients returned to their daily activities and employment in an average of 7.29 days. The market cost of a single standard polypropylene mesh was Rs.1,660/-. For making a single mosquito net mesh of the same size, we had an expenditure of Rs. 11.83/- including the cost of sterilization. In this study, 382 patients (95.5%) gave us good feedback, 11 patients (2.75) gave satisfactory feedback, and 7 patients (1.75%) gave excellent feedback. The emergence of a novel pathogen in a susceptible population can cause rapid spread of infection. High prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) has been reported in multiple locations, likely resulting from several human-to-deer spillover events followed by deer-to-deer transmission. Knowledge of the risk and direction of SARS-CoV-2 transmission between humans and potential reservoir hosts is essential for effective disease control and prioritisation of interventions. Using genomic data, we reconstruct the transmission history of SARS-CoV-2 in humans and deer, estimate the case finding rate and attempt to infer relative rates of transmission between species. We found no evidence of direct or indirect transmission from deer to human. However, with an estimated case finding rate of only 4.2%, spillback to humans cannot be ruled out. The extensive transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within deer populations and the large number of unsampled cases highlights the need for active surveillance at the human-animal interface., (© 2022. Purpose: To study the impact of different optimization methods in dealing with metallic hip implant using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) techniques., Materials and Methods: A cohort of 16 patients having metallic implants was selected for the study. Three sets of IMRT and VMAT plans were generated. Set 1 IMRT (IM&#95;Base), VMAT (VM&#95;Base) without any restrictions on beam entry and exit, set 2 (IM&#95;ENT and VM&#95;ENT) optimizer restricts the beam entry and set 3 (IM&#95;EXT+ENT), neither entry nor exit doses were allowed toward the metallic implant., Results: There was no significant difference in target (D 95% ) and organ-at-risk doses between IM&#95;Base and IM&#95;ENT. There were significant ( P = 0.002) improvements in planning target volume (PTV) V 95% and homogeneity from IM&#95;EXT+ENT to IM&#95;ENT. There was no significant difference in plan quality between VM&#95;Base and VM&#95;ENT. There were significant ( P = 0.005) improvements in PTV, V 95%, homogeneity from VM&#95;EXT+ENT to VM&#95;ENT. V 40Gy , V 30Gy for bladder, rectum, bowel, and bowel maximum dose decreases significantly ( P < 0.005) in IM&#95;ENT compared to IM&#95;EXT+ENT, but not significant for VMAT plans. Similarly, there was a significant decrease in dose spill outside target ( P < 0.05) comparing 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70% dose spills for IM&#95;ENT compared to IM&#95;EXT+ENT, but variations among VMAT plans are insignificant. VMAT plans were always superior to IMRT plans for the same optimization methods., Conclusion: The best approach is to plan hip prosthesis cases with blocked entry of radiation beam for IMRT and VMAT. Realignment osteotomies around the knee joint are used primarily for management of arthritis. Traditionally, an unstable knee has been considered a contraindication for osteotomy. But with a better understanding of biomechanics of osteotomies and their effect on ligament instabilities, the beneficial role of osteotomies in managing an unstable knee is becoming clearer. Many animal species are susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and could act as reservoirs; however, transmission in free-living animals has not been documented. White-tailed deer, the predominant cervid in North America, are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, and experimentally infected fawns can transmit the virus. To test the hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 is circulating in deer, 283 retropharyngeal lymph node (RPLN) samples collected from 151 free-living and 132 captive deer in Iowa from April 2020 through January of 2021 were assayed for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Ninety-four of the 283 (33.2%) deer samples were positive for SARS-CoV-2 RNA as assessed by RT-PCR. Notably, following the November 2020 peak of human cases in Iowa, and coinciding with the onset of winter and the peak deer hunting season, SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected in 80 of 97 (82.5%) RPLN samples collected over a 7-wk period. Whole genome sequencing of all 94 positive RPLN samples identified 12 SARS-CoV-2 lineages, with B.1.2 ( n = 51; 54.5%) and B.1.311 ( n = 19; 20%) accounting for ∼75% of all samples. The geographic distribution and nesting of clusters of deer and human lineages strongly suggest multiple human-to-deer transmission events followed by subsequent deer-to-deer spread. These discoveries have important implications for the long-term persistence of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Aim: We aimed to evaluate the dosimetric influence of Acuros XB (AXB) dose-to-medium (D m ) and dose-to-water (D w ) reporting mode on carcinoma cervix using intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and RapidArc (RA) technique., Materials and Methods: A cohort of thirty patients cared for carcinoma cervix was retrospectively selected for the study. Plans were computed using analytical anisotropic algorithm (AAA), AXB-D m , and AXB-D w algorithms for dosimetric comparison. A paired t -test and Pitman-Morgan dispersion test were executed to appraise the difference in mean values and the inter-patient variability of the differences., Results: The dose-volume parameters were higher for AXB-D w in contrast to AAA for IMRT and RA plans, excluding D 98% , minimum dose to planning target volume (PTV) and rectum mean dose (RA). There was no systematic trend observed in dose-volume parameters for PTV and organs at risk (OARs) between AXB-D m and AXB-D w for IMRT and RA plans. The dose-volume parameters for target were higher for AXB-D m in comparison to AAA in IMRT and RA plans, except D 98% and minimum dose to PTV. Analysis envisaged less inter-patient variability while switching from AAA to AXB-D m in comparison to those switching from AAA to AXB-D w ., Conclusions: The present study reveals the important difference between AAA, AXB-D m , and AXB-D w computations for cervix carcinoma using IMRT and RA techniques. The inter-patient variability and systematic difference in dose-volume parameters computed using AAA, AXB-D m , and AXB-D w algorithms present the possible impact on the dose prescription to PTV and their relative constraints to OARs for IMRT and RA techniques. The year 2019 has seen an emergence of the novel coronavirus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causing coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19). Since the onset of the pandemic, biological and interdisciplinary research is being carried out across the world at a rapid pace to beat the pandemic. There is an increased need to comprehensively understand various aspects of the virus from detection to treatment options including drugs and vaccines for effective global management of the disease. In this review, we summarize the salient findings pertaining to SARS-CoV-2 biology, including symptoms, hosts, epidemiology, SARS-CoV-2 genome, and its emerging variants, viral diagnostics, host-pathogen interactions, alternative antiviral strategies and application of machine learning heuristics and artificial intelligence for effective management of COVID-19 and future pandemics., Competing Interests: RP was employed by Genomix CARL Pvt. Aim: To validate the Acuros ® XB (AXB) algorithm in Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS) for RapidArc™ (RA) technique following the software upgrades., Materials and Methods: A Clinac-iX (2300CD) linear accelerator and Eclipse TPS (Varian Medical System, Inc., Palo Alto, USA) was used for commissioning of AXB algorithm using a 6 megavolts photon beam. Percentage depth dose (PDD) and profiles for field size 2 cm × 2 cm, 4 cm × 4 cm, 6 cm × 6 cm, 10 cm × 10 cm, 20 cm × 20 cm, 30 cm × 30 cm to 40 cm × 40 cm were taken. AXB calculated PDDs and profiles were evaluated against the measured and analytical anisotropic algorithm (AAA)-calculated PDDs and profiles. Test sites recommended by American Association of Physicists in Medicine task group (AAPM TG)-119 recommendation were used for RA planning and delivery verification using AXB algorithm., Dosimetric analysis of AXB calculated data showed that difference between calculated and measured data for PDD curves were maximum <1% beyond the depth of dose maximum and computed profiles in central region matches with maximum <1% for all considered field sizes. Ion-chamber measurements showed that the average confidence limit (CLs) was 0.034 and 0.020 in high-gradient and 0.047 and 0.042 in low-gradient regions, respectively, for AAA and AXB calculated RA plans. Portal measurements show the average CLs were 2.48 and 2.58 for AAA and AXB-calculated RA plans, with gamma passing criteria of 3%/3 mm., Conclusions: AXB shows excellent agreement with measurements and AAA calculated data. The CLs were consistent with the baseline values published by TG-119. AXB algorithm has the potential to perform photon dose calculation with comparable fast calculation speed without negotiating the accuracy. Background: Routinely, patient's planning scans are acquired after administration of iodinized contrast media but they will be treated in the absence of that. Similarly, high energy photons have a better penetrating power, while low energy photons will result in tighter dose distribution and negligible neutron contamination. The aim of the study was to investigate a suitable photon beam energy in the presence of intravenous contrast medium., Materials and Methods: An indigenously made original-contrast (OC) phantom was mentioned as virtual-contrast (VC) and virtual-without-contrast (VWC) phantom were generated by assigning the Hounsfield Units (HU) to different structures. Intensity-modulated (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated-arc (VMAT) plans were generated as per criteria of the TG-119 protocol., Results: It was observed that the maximum dose to the spinal cord was better with 6 mega-voltage (MV) in IMRT. The coverage of Prostate PTV (PR PTV) was similar with all the photon energies and was comparable with TG-119, except for original-contrast (OC) phantom using the VMAT technique. Homogeneity-index (HI) was comparatively better for VMAT plans., Conclusion: The contrast CT images lower the dose to targets. IMRT or VMAT plans, generated on such CT images will be delivered with higher doses than evaluated. Background: Acuros XB (AXB) may predict better rectal toxicities and treatment outcomes in cervix carcinoma. The aim of the study was to quantify the potential impact of AXB computations on the cervix radiotherapy using the RapidArc (RA ) technique as compared to anisotropic analytical algorithm (AA) computations., Materials and Methods: A cohort of 30 patients previously cared for cervix carcinoma (stages II-IIIB) was selected for the present analysis. The RA plans were computed using AA and AXB dose computation engines under identical beam setup and MLC pattern., Results: There was no significant (p > 0.05) difference in D 95% and D 98% to the planning target volume (PTV); moreover, a significant (p < 0.05) rise was noticed for mean dose to the PTV (0.26%), D 50% (0.26%), D 2% (0.80%) and V 110% (44.24%) for AXB computation as compared to AA computations. Further, AXB estimated a significantly (p < 0.05) lower value for maximum and minimum dose to the PTV. Additionally, there was a significant (p < 0.05) reduction observed in mean dose to organs at risk (OARs) for AXB computation as compared to AA, though the reduction in mean dose was non-significant (p > 0.05) for the rectum. The maximum difference observed was 4.78% for the rectum V 50Gy , 1.72%, 1.15% in mean dose and 2.22%, 1.48% in D 2% of the left femur and right femur, respectively, between AA and AXB dose estimations., Conclusion: For similar target coverage, there were significant differences observed between the AAA and AXB computations. AA underestimates the V 50Gy of the rectum and overestimates the mean dose and D 2% for femoral heads as compared to AXB. Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a pathogen of veterinary importance, as it is the major causative agent of superficial pyoderma in dogs. We present the complete genome sequences of six strains of S. pseudintermedius derived from dogs affected with epidermal collarettes and superficial bacterial folliculitis, which are two variants of superficial pyoderma.

Injectable platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF) is a second generation, fully autologous, blood-derived biomaterial having three-dimensional fibrin meshwork, like that of a PRF clot, while retaining the fluid nature, just like platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Along with platelets and its growth factors, injectable PRF predominantly has collagen type-1, lymphocytes along with its growth factors. Preparation of injectable PRF is simple and requires minimal instrumentation and materials, making it a cost-effective product. Avibacterium paragallinarum (historically called Hemophilus paragallinarum ) causes infectious coryza (IC), which is an acute respiratory disease of chickens. Recently, outbreaks of IC have been reported in Pennsylvania (PA) in broilers, layer pullets, and laying hens, causing significant respiratory disease and production losses. A tentative diagnosis of IC can be made based on history, clinical signs, and characteristic gross lesions. However, isolation and identification of the organism are required for a definitive diagnosis. Major challenges with the bacteriological diagnosis of A. paragallinarum include that the organism is difficult to isolate, slow-growing, and can only be successfully isolated during the acute stage of infection and secondary bacterial infections are also common. As there were very limited whole genomes of A. paragallinarum in the public databases, we carried out whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of PA isolates and based on the WGS data analysis; we designed a novel probe-based PCR assay targeting a highly conserved sequence in the recN , the DNA repair protein gene of A. paragallinarum . The assay includes an internal control, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.93 genomic copies. The PCR efficiency ranged between 90 and 97%, and diagnostic sensitivity of 98.5% compared with conventional gel-based PCR. The test was highly specific, and no cross-reactivity was observed with other species of Avibacterium and a range of other common poultry respiratory viral and bacterial pathogens. Real-time PCR testing on 419 clinical samples from suspected flocks yielded 94 positives and 365 negatives in agreement with diagnostic bacterial culture-based detection. Background: The number of people with implanted hip prosthesis has grown worldwide. For radiotherapy planning of patients with hip implants, few main challenges are encountered. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of different planning algorithms in the presence of high-density metallic implant in the treatment of patients with carcinoma cervix., Results: It was found that D 98% were 44.49 ± 0.11, 44.51 ± 0.13, 44.39 ± 0.22, and 44.45 ± 0.16 Gy for 4FMC6MV (4-field technique calculated with Monte-Carlo algorithm and 6 MV photon energy), 4FMC6MV&#95;WP (4-field technique calculated with Monte-Carlo algorithm and 6 MV photon energy without prosthesis), 4FCC6MV (4-field technique calculated with collapse-cone-convolution algorithm and 6 MV photon energy), and 4FCC6MV&#95;WP (4-field technique calculated with collapse-cone-convolution algorithm and 6 MV photon energy without prosthesis) respectively. Similarly, D 2% were 49.40 ± 0.84, 49.05 ± 0.76, 48.97 ± 0.91, and 48.57 ± 0.85 Gray (Gy) for 4FMC6MV, 4FMC6MV&#95;WP, 4FCC6MV, and 4FCC6MV&#95;WP respectively. The present study has not suggested any major difference between the Monte-Carlo (MC) and collapse-cone-convolution (CCC) calculation algorithm in the presence of high-Z metallic implants. Volume of bowel receiving 15 Gy dose has shown a significant difference with prosthesis cases. This study investigates that hip prosthesis creates considerable changes in the treatment planning of cervical malignancies., Conclusion: CCC algorithm is in good agreement with MC calculation algorithm in the presence of high-density metallic implants in terms of target coverage and avoidance organ sparing except few parameters.

Urine drug testing is one of the objective tools available to assess adherence. To monitor adherence, quantitative urinary results can assist in differentiating "new" drug use from "previous" (historical) drug use. "Spikes" in urinary concentration can assist in identifying patterns of drug use. Coupled chromatographic-mass spectrometric methods are capable of identifying very small amounts of analyte and can make clinical interpretation rather challenging, specifically for drugs that have a longer half-life. Polypharmacy is common in treatment and rehabilitation programs because of co-morbidities. Medications prescribed for comorbidities can cause drug-drug interaction and phenoconversion of genotypic extensive metabolizers into phenotypic poor metabolizers of the treatment drug. This can have significant impact on both pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic properties of the treatment drug. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) coupled with PKs can assist in interpreting the effects of phenoconversion. TDM-PKs reflects the cumulative effects of pathophysiological changes in the patient as well as drug-drug interactions and should be considered for treatment medications/drugs used to manage pain and treat substance abuse. Since only a few enzyme immunoassays for TDM are available, this is a unique opportunity for clinical laboratory scientists to develop TDM-PK protocols that can have a significant impact on patient care and personalized medicine. Interpretation of drug screening results should be done with caution while considering pharmacological properties and the presence or absence of the parent drug and its metabolites. The objective of this manuscript is to review and address the variables that influence interpretation of different drugs analyzed from a rehabilitation and treatment programs perspective.

Background: To evaluate the dosimetric impact of variable bladder filling on target and organ at risk (OARs) in cervical cancer patients undergoing chemoradiation. Forty consecutive patients with cervical cancer underwent radiotherapy planning as per the departmental protocol. All patients were asked to empty their bowel and bladder before simulation and catheterization was done. Normal saline was instilled into the bladder through Foleys till the patient had a maximal urge to urinate. Pelvic cast fabrication and CT simulation was done. Then, 30%, 50%, and 100% of the instilled saline was removed and rescans taken. Planning was done on full bladder (X) and the same plan applied to the contours with bladder volumes 0.7X (PLAN70), 0.5X (PLAN50), and empty (PLAN0). A dose of 50 Gy/25# was prescribed to the PTV and plans evaluated. Intensity-modulated radiotherapy plans with full bladder were implemented for each patient. Shifts in the center of mass (COM) of the cervix/uterus with variable bladder filling identified were noted. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. A p value < 0.05 was considered significant., Results: Bladder volume in 70%, 50%, and empty bladder planning was 78.34% (388.35 + 117.44 ml), 64.44% (320.60 + 106.20 ml), and 13.63% (62.60 + 23.12 ml), respectively. The mean dose received by 95% PTV was 49.76 Gy + 1.30 Gy. Though the difference in target coverage was significant between PLAN100 and other plans, the mean difference was minimal. A decrease in bladder filling resulted in an increase in OAR dose. Variation in the increase in dose to OARs was not significant if bladder filling was > 78.34% and > 64.44% of a full bladder with respect to the bowel and rectal/bladder doses, respectively. Inconsistent bladder filling led to a maximal shift in COM (uterus/cervix) in the Y- and Z-axis., Conclusion: Bladder filling variations have an impact on cervico-uterine motion/shape, thereby impacting the dose to the target and OARs. It is recommended to have a threshold bladder volume of at least 70-75% of optimally filled bladder during daily treatment., Trial Registration: Institutional review board (IRB) registered by Drug Controller General (India) with registration number ECR/10/Ins/DC/2013. Aim: To investigate the impact of Acuros XB (AXB) algorithm in the deep-inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) technique used for treatment of left sided breast cancer., Background: AXB may estimate better lung toxicities and treatment outcome in DIBH., Materials and Methods: Treatment plans were computed using the field-in-field technique for a 6 MV beam in two respiratory phases - free breathing (FB) and DIBH. The AXB-calculations were performed under identical beam setup and the same numbers of monitor units as used for AAA-calculation., Results: Mean Hounsfield units (HU), mass density (g/cc) and relative electron density were -782.1 ± 24.8 and -883.5 ± 24.9; 0.196 ± 0.025 and 0.083 ± 0.032; 0.218 ± 0.025 and 0.117 ± 0.025 for the lung in the FB and DIBH respiratory phase, respectively. For a similar target coverage ( p  > 0.05) in the DIBH respiratory phase between the AXB and AAA algorithm, there was a slight increase in organ at risk (OAR) dose for AXB in comparison to AAA, except for mean dose to the ipsilateral lung. AAA predicts higher mean dose to the ipsilateral lung and lesser V 20Gy for the ipsilateral and common lung in comparison to AXB. The differences in mean dose to the ipsilateral lung were 0.87 ± 2.66 % ( p  > 0.05) in FB, and 1.01 ± 1.07% ( p  < 0.05) in DIBH, in V 20Gy the differences were 1.76 ± 0.83% and 1.71 ± 0.82% in FB ( p  < 0.05), 3.34 ± 1.15 % and 3.24 ± 1.17 % in DIBH ( p  < 0.05), for the ipsilateral and common lung, respectively., Conclusion: For a similar target volume coverage, there were important differences between the AXB and AAA algorithm for low-density inhomogeneity medium present in the DIBH respiratory phase for left sided breast cancer patients. The methodology discussed in Lekinwala et al., 2020, hereinafter referred to as the 'parent article', is used to setup a nation-wide network for background PM 2.5 measurement at strategic locations, optimally placing sites to obtain maximum regionally representative PM 2.5 concentrations with minimum number of sites. Traditionally, in-situ PM 2.5 measurements are obtained for several potential sites and compared to identify the most regionally representative sites [4], Wongphatarakul et al., 1998) at the location. The 'parent article' proposes the use of satellite-derived proxy for aerosol (Aerosol Optical Depth, AOD) data in the absence of in-situ PM2.5 measurements. This article focuses on the details about satellite-data processing which forms part of the methodology discussed in the 'parent article'. Following are some relevant aspects:•High resolution AOD is retrieved from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instruments aboard NASA's Aqua and Terra satellite using Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) algorithm. The data is stored as grids of size 1200  ×  1200 and a total of seven such grids cover the Indian land mass. These grids were merged, regridded and multiplied by conversion factors from GEOS-Chem Chemical Transport Model to obtain PM 2.5 values. Introduction: Aim of study is to investigate the effect of hip prosthesis on 6 and 15 MV photon beam energies., Materials and Methods: Prosthesis was kept at the level of tray position. The measurements were done on Varian Clinac-iX linac. Customized prosthesis, termed as Prosthetic Metal Implant (PMI) was made up of wrought austenitic stainless steel rod and covered with paraffin-wax. 'Standard prosthesis' was made up of wrought titanium alloy. The dose profiles were measured for three field sizes i.e. 5, 10 and 20 cm at 100 cm SSD for 6 and 15 MV energies. The perturbation index (PI) was also calculated., Results: Perturbation caused by standard prosthesis was approximately 50% higher than that of PMI. This result may be due to difference in dimension and not because of material composition. Variation of central axis dose might be due to the dimensions of PMI used for experiment which gave intermediate response (e.g. 102.1%, 141.0% and 117.7% for Open, Standard and PMI respectively for 10x10 cm2 field size, 10 cm depth and 15MV photon beam setup )as compared to the 'open' and 'standard' prosthesis. Percentage dose at 10 cm for 6MV photon increased rapidly with field-size for PMI. But, for 15MV photon, difference was not significant. Surface dose (Ds) for PMI remains significantly higher for smaller field., Conclusion: The perturbation index varied from 0.05 to 0.22 for the measured energies and gave an idea to the planner to assess the behavior of the prosthesis. This range is applicable for both type of implants and for all clinical field-sizes. The attenuation caused by the prosthesis was significant and this effect should be considered in the treatment planning calculations.

Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) cause major economic losses to the global poultry industry. Many host factors have been identified that act as regulators of the inflammatory response and virus replication in influenza A virus (IAV) infected cells including nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD) like receptor (NLR) family proteins. Evidence is emerging that NLRC5, the largest NLR member, is a regulator of host immune responses against invading pathogens including viruses; however, its role in the avian immune system and AIV pathogenesis has not been fully explored. In this study, we found that NLRC5 is activated by a range of low and highly pathogenic AIVs in primary chicken lung cells and a chicken macrophage cell line. Further, siRNA mediated NLRC5 knockdown in chicken macrophages resulted in a significant reduction in AIV replication which was associated with the upregulation of genes associated with activated NFκB signaling pathway. The knockdown of NLRC5 enhanced the expression of genes known to be associated with viral defense and decreased innate cytokine gene expression following AIV infection. Overall, our investigation strongly suggests that NLRC5 is a pro-viral factor during IAV infection in chicken and may contribute to pathogenesis through innate cytokine regulation. In recent years, much interest has been raised by materials with multi-purpose characteristics as the performance of electrochemical energy devices such as supercapacitors and photocatalytic activities depend strongly on the properties of materials. This study delineates various parameters like morphology, energy band gap, charge transfer resistance, different defect states, diffusion coefficient and functional groups adsorbed on the surface of material to assess the performance of supercapacitor electrodes and photocatalytic degradation efficiency of synthesised multi-dimensional ZnS nanostructures. Ethylenediamine (EN)-mediated multi-dimensional ZnS nanostructures were grown by the solvothermal route. One-dimensional (1D), 2D and 3D morphologies were obtained by varying the ratio of de-ionised water and EN, taken as 1:3, 1:2 and 1:1, respectively. The EN molecules effectively capped most of the surfaces of the ZnS nanoparticles formed, preventing agglomeration of nanoparticles due to the decrement in surface energy. The oriented attachment of these clusters resulted in the formation of 1D, 2D and 3D morphologies. The plausible chemistry in the formation of 1D, 2D and 3D nanostructures has been elaborated. Charge transfer properties of prepared electrodes have been examined using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique because better charge transfer causes diminishing electron/hole recombination and hence better photodegradation efficiency. Among the synthesised materials, the 2D nanostructure degraded the eosin Y dye to maximum 90.71% efficiency with rate constant 34 × 10 -3 min -1 . 2D nanostructures possess better charge transfer and hence better photodegradation efficiency. Various studies using methods of UV-vis, Fourier-transform infrared, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectra are in good agreement with the obtained photodegradation results. After analysing cyclic voltammetry curves and EIS, a higher diffusion coefficient is obtained for 1D nanostructure material, hence a higher specific capacitance and higher energy density of 159.12 F g -1 and 22.75 KWh kg -1 are found in this case. Only 9% loss of specific capacitance is found after 1000 cycles, showing a relatively high cycling stability in 3D nanostructures. The excellent supercapacitive property can be attributed to the porous structure and high specific surface area. Thus, the synthesised multi-dimensional ZnS nanostructures are proved to be a potential candidate for both photocatalytic and supercapacitor electrode performance.

Uterine examinations provide an inexpensive and reliable postmortem alternative to monitor pregnancy rates in free-ranging elk ( Cervus canadensis ). However, this technique may be insensitive during early pregnancies (i.e., <20 d postconception), relies on proper collection of tissues, and may not be comparable to antemortem approaches used throughout the rest of the year. To circumvent some of these issues, the sensitivity and specificity of a commercially available serum pregnancy-specific protein B (PSPB) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was determined relative to uterine examination. From 2013 to 2017, paired serum samples and uteri were collected from 245 harvested free-ranging cow elk in Pennsylvania, US in November. Uteri were examined to determine whether the cow was pregnant, and, if so, gestation age was estimated based on embryo crown-rump (CR) length. The serum PSPB ELISA testing was then performed. Since harvested elk could not be retested, samples with optical densities close to the threshold for pregnancy determination (i.e., high-recheck samples) were considered as both not pregnant and pregnant, and analyses were performed separately under each scenario. Overall, the PSPB ELISA had a sensitivity of 95% (high-recheck considered pregnant) and 93% (high-recheck considered not pregnant), and a specificity of 91% (high-recheck considered pregnant) and 93% (high-recheck considered not pregnant) relative to uterine examinations. Based on CR length, gestation age was <14 to 55 d. Our results indicated the PSPB ELISA was an accurate serum-based pregnancy test for elk.

Salmonella enterica resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESC) conferred by cefotaximases ( bla CTX-M ) is a growing concern in the United States. Among food-producing animals, poultry are a major reservoir of ESC-resistant Salmonella . A retrospective study was carried out to further characterize 38 ceftiofur-resistant clinical Salmonella enterica isolates obtained from poultry during 2007-2018. Of the isolates tested, 31 displayed resistance to ceftriaxone and harbored bla CMY-2 , whereas 7 isolates demonstrated resistance or reduced susceptibility to cefepime in addition to ceftriaxone resistance. These 7 isolates displayed extended-spectrum β-lactamase activity, harbored bla CTX-M-1 , and were recovered only from recent poultry diagnostic submissions made in 2011-2018 as opposed to the 31 isolates that were recovered in 2007-2018. Further characterization of the bla CTX-M-1 gene determined that it was located on conjugative IncN/ST1 and IncI1/ST87 plasmids in the isolates from commercial turkeys and broilers, respectively. These plasmids have been responsible for extensive spread of bla CTX-M-1 in livestock, poultry, and humans in Europe. Potential transfer of IncN and IncI1 plasmids and/or nontyphoidal Salmonella carrying these plasmids through the food chain, or by other means to humans, may result in treatment failures. Our study demonstrates the importance of further characterization of ceftiofur-resistant S. enterica isolates detected by veterinary diagnostic laboratories to identify the sources of bla CTX-M-1 and to mitigate the spread of ESC-resistant Salmonella in the poultry production pyramid.

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of flattening filter free beam (FFFB) for the treatment of gastric tumors and to review their benefits over 6MV flatten beam (6MV&#95;FFB)., Methods: Fifteen patients with histologically proven gastric carcinoma were selected. CT scans with slice thickness of 0.3 cm were acquired and planning target volume (PTV) and organ at risk (OAR) were delineated. Plans were made retrospectively for each patient for the prescription dose of 45 Gy/25 fractions to the PTV. Four isocentric plans were compared in the present study on Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA, USA)., Results: PTV D98% was 44.41 ± 0.12, 44.38 ± 0.13, 44.59 ± 0.14, and 44.49 ± 0.19 Gy for IMRT 6MV&#95;FFB, IMRT 6MV&#95;FFFB, VMAT 6MV&#95;FFB, and VMAT 6MV&#95;FFFB respectively. 6MV&#95;FFFB beam minimizes the mean heart dose D mean (P = 0.001). VMAT dominates over IMRT when it came to kidney doses V 12Gy (P = 0.02), V 23Gy (P = 0.015), V 28Gy (P = 0.011), and D max (P < 0.01). VMAT has significantly reduced the doses to kidneys. It was analyzed that 6MV&#95;FFFB significantly reduces the dose to normal tissues (P = 0.006 and P = 0.018). VMAT significantly reduces the TMU, which is required to deliver the similar dose by IMRT (P < 0.01)., Conclusions: Unflattened beam spares the organs at risk significantly to avoid the chances of secondary malignancies and reduces the intra-fraction motion during treatment due to provision of higher dose rate. Hence, we conclude that 6MV unflattened beam can be used to treat gastric carcinoma.

Nanomaterials have specific properties which are uncommon in their bulk counterparts. Because of these unique characteristics, nanotechnology has been explored for various applications by the scientific community and it can play a crucial role in providing solutions of current major healthcare problems. In the present work, we describe the fabrication of a novel inorganic alternative of traditional antibiotics, which can effectively counter the pathogenic bacteria including multi drug resistant bacterial strains. For this purpose, nanocomposites of Fe/Ni oxide with different molar concentrations of nickel have been prepared via wet-chemical approach along with the α-Fe 2 O 3 and NiO nanoparticles. The bactericidal efficiency of the prepared samples were tested against pathogenic strains of B. subtilis, S. aureus, E. coli and S. typhi using two distinct methods. In addition to this, structural, physical and chemical properties of the nanomaterials were studied using XRD, TEM, EDAX, Raman, VSM and TGA-DTA. Also, the cytotoxicity of synthesized samples was assessed using MTT assay against human cell lines MCF-10A (normal) and MCF7 (cancer).

Neospora caninum is an apicomplexan protozoan parasite that is a leading cause of abortion in cattle. Detection of parasite-specific DNA by PCR is a highly sensitive method for identifying the presence of N. caninum in a variety of tissues. We developed and validated a probe-based real-time PCR assay targeting the conserved Nc5 gene of N. caninum. Using N. caninum strain Nc-1 genomic DNA and a synthetic gene fragment as amplification standards, we determined the PCR amplification efficiency and the limit of detection to be 95.60% and 3 copies, respectively. Five pathogens frequently associated with bovine abortions, namely bovine viral diarrhea virus types I and II, bovine alphaherpesvirus-1, Chlamydia, and Leptospira, were tested to ensure analytical exclusivity. A total of 103 clinical samples from aborted fetuses were tested concurrently with a standard conventional PCR and the new probe-based real-time PCR assay. All tested samples showed 100% agreement between these two assays. Tularemia is an endemic zoonotic disease in many parts of the world including Asia. A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine genome-based prevalence of Francisella tularensis ( Ft ) in soil, assess an association between its occurrence in soil and likely predictors i.e., macro and micro-nutrients and several categorical variables, and determine seroconversion in small and large ruminants. The study included a total of 2,280 soil samples representing 456 villages in eight districts of the Punjab Province of Pakistan followed by an analysis of serum antibodies in 707 ruminants. The genome of Ft was detected in 3.25% ( n = 74, 95% CI: 2.60-4.06) of soil samples. Soluble salts (OR: 1.276, 95% CI: 1.043-1.562, p = 0.015), Ni (OR: 2.910, 95%CI: 0.795-10.644, p = 0.106), Mn (OR:0.733, 95% CI:0.565-0.951, p = 0.019), Zn (OR: 4.922, 95% CI:0.929-26.064, p = 0.061) and nutrients clustered together as PC-1 (OR: 4.76, 95% CI: 2.37-9.54, p = 0.000) and PC-3 (OR: 0.357, 95% CI: 0.640, p = 0.001) were found to have a positive association for the presence of Ft in soil. The odds of occurrence of Ft DNA in soil were higher at locations close to a water source, including canals, streams or drains, [χ 2 = 6.7, OR = 1.19, 95% CI:1.05-3.09, p = 0.004] as well as places where animals were present [χ 2 = 4.09, OR = 2.06, 95% CI: 1.05-4.05, p = 0.02]. The seroconversion was detected in 6.22% ( n = 44, 95% CI: 4.67-8.25) of domestic animals. An occurrence of Ft over a wide geographical region indicates its expansion to enzootic range, and demonstrates the need for further investigation among potential disease reservoirs and at-risk populations, such as farmers and veterinarians.

Aim: This study validated the RapidArc (RA) delivery using a volumetric ArcCHECK phantom as per the guidelines proposed in Task Group Report 119 from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Task group 119 (AAPM TG 119). This study also investigated the impact of the Acuros XB (AXB) algorithm in comparison to analytical anisotropic algorithm (AAA) on the RA dose calculations in the homogeneous medium of the ArcCHECK phantom., Materials and Methods: A volumetric ArcCHECK phantom along with AAPM TG 119 tests was used to evaluate the RA plans and verify the dose delivery for photon beam of 6 MV energy., Results: The RA planning results were comparable and satisfied the planning criteria stated in the TG 119 report for all test cases. The average percentage gamma passing rates for the AAA-calculated plans were 98.5 (standard deviation [SD]: 0.6), 98.5 (SD: 1.3), and 98.1 (SD: 2.0) and for the AXB-calculated plans were 95.1 (SD: 1.8), 96.1 (SD: 1.3), and 94.0 (SD: 0.9) for the Clinac-iX (6 MV) and TrueBeam (TB)-STx (6 MV&#95;filtered beam [FB] and 6 MV&#95;flattening filter-free beam [FFFB]), respectively. For ion chamber measurements, the average percentage dose differences for the AAA-calculated plans were 1.5 (SD: 2.5), 2.7 (SD: 1.4), and 1.4(SD: 2.7) and for AXB-calculated plans were 2.3 (SD: 1.6), 3.2 (SD: 1.5), and 2.3 (SD: 2.0) for Clinac-iX (6 MV) and TB-STx (6 MV&#95;FB and 6 MV&#95;FFFB), respectively., Conclusion: Thus, the ArcCHECK can successfully be utilized for the validation of the RA delivery. The AXB has potential to perform dose calculations comparable to those of the AAA for RA plans in the homogeneous medium of the ArcCHECK phantom., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest.

Nontyphoidal Salmonella enterica strains are major foodborne pathogens with global public health importance. Foodborne salmonellosis can be life-threatening, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. We report the complete genome sequences of 20 nontyphoidal Salmonella enterica strains isolated in Rwanda. A middle-aged man presented with progressively worsening breathlessness and non-productive cough for the last 3 months. On examination, his breathing was stridulous and air entry was decreased bilaterally. He underwent emergency fibre-optic bronchoscopy, which revealed a tracheal growth causing luminal narrowing, and after tumour debulking, he improved symptomatically. Histopathological evaluation of the specimen revealed an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the trachea, and systemic evaluation revealed metastatic dissemination. Systemic molecular-targeted therapy was initiated (gefitinib and later imatinib mesylate) and continued for 5 years, in view of stable disease on periodic follow-up. He subsequently presented with breathlessness again, which was managed with an emergency tracheostomy. In view of stable systemic disease and local progression only, he received definitive radiotherapy with image-guided volumetric modulated arc therapy, which resulted in a complete radiological response. This paper reports the development of inorganic nanoparticles based novel antibiotic. Inorganic nanoparticles have the potential of being used as bactericidal agent due to their effective antimicrobial activity, colloidal aqueous stability and comparatively low toxic profile. Among them, iron oxide and copper oxide were chosen for this study because of the nascent bactericidal properties of both iron and copper. In this work, along with the pure samples of iron oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles, hybrid magnetic nanocomposites of iron oxide and copper oxide with varying molar concentrations of copper precursor were produced by wet-chemical approach. Structural, physical and chemical properties of the prepared samples were investigated using spectroscopic and microscopic techniques like XRD, SEM, TEM, EDAX, Raman, VSM and TGA-DTA. The antibacterial activity of the samples were established against pathogenic strains of bacteria E. coli, B. subtilis, S. aureus and S. typhi by using two different methods. The prepared nanomaterials were very adequate to combat the bacterial growth and their bactericidal efficiency was comparable to the commercial antibiotic gentamycin. Thus these non-toxic hybrid nanocomposites can be used as the potential antibiotic to counter the diseases caused by normal and multi drug resistant pathogenic bacterial strains., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V.
