Efficient recycling of resources forms the cornerstone of sustainable development. Among multiple options in stock for waste recycling, vermicomposting technology is regarded as a futuristic strategy, being tested in every part of the globe due to easy accessibility. Hence, a bibliometric study was planned to set a sight on global scientific trends encompassing vermicomposting research in last three decades. The data were retrieved from Google Scholar, Scopus and PubMed. Publications from different search engines were filtered out and 2064 unique documents were collected and illustrated in MS Excel and Vos-viewer. Inferences were drawn on significant aspects, such as publication growth trend, journal analysis and co-occurrence of keywords. The study revealed that the number of publications increased from 3 in 1992 to 166 in 2021. The number of citations also increased and peaked at 4314 in 2015. Following this, we clustered keywords using principle component analysis and worked out links between domains of vermicomposting. Vermicomposting conjoined to words substrate manipulation, quality improvement, heavy metal adsorption, and yield parameters. This implies that vermicompost is being explored for many alternate uses in addition to its use as a fertiliser. We concluded that vermicomposting is one of the promising technologies for waste recycling. It modulates plant growth and subdues stress in plants. Additionally, being an efficient adsorbent, it serves bioremediation of contaminated sites. Therefore, the future of this technology lies in synthesising nano-formulations, integrating into biosensor technology, simulating for predicting timelines under different conditions and making efforts to improve their adsorption.

Returning to campus after remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us were excited about participating in interactive, hands-on health promotion for students. In response, our Office of Wellness Promotion planned a student health and well-being expo in partnership with the university's College of Health Sciences (CHS). Faculty were invited to involve their students in the delivery. Student groups were encouraged to deliver health education in an interactive format. The event was open to the campus community, and participants were able to further their knowledge and skills in health and well-being topics. The student health and well-being expo was the first of its kind at the university, where students could learn with and from their peers and share their skills in many dimensions of wellness. The interactive nature of the activities allowed participants to practice health promotion skills and engage a diverse audience. Analysis of program evaluation data yielded overwhelmingly positive results, with most attendees considering the expo an innovative campus activity that fulfilled a need. Specifically, the interactive nature, peer learning, and incentives were aspects of the event students want to see return in future iterations of the expo.

Objectives: African immigrants represent a rapidly growing immigrant group in the US, yet relatively little is known about influences on the health of this group. This is a particularly important oversight since adaptation to life in the United States can have deleterious effects on health due to the stress associated with immigrant and minority status as well as separation from family abroad. The present study explores how African immigrants experience acculturative stress - the stress-inducing elements of life as an immigrant - and the mental health implications of these experiences in light of home country values and conceptions of health., Design: Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with a purposive sample of sub-Saharan African immigrant students attending a metropolitan university in the northeastern United States ( N  = 26). Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo 12., Results: African immigrant students first experience acculturative stress through schools and neighborhoods where they encounter othering processes, including discrimination and racism. Family responsibilities to loved ones in the US and Africa also represent a source of stress that contributes to feelings of isolation and depression experienced while managing college responsibilities. Since these emotional and mental states are not within the purview of how health is viewed in their home countries, many suffer and may not get the care they need to effectively manage their mental health., Conclusion: Findings emphasize shared experiences of navigating cultural dynamics, family pressures, and discrimination that contribute to the stress experienced by African immigrants. Findings also underscore the need for the development of culturally sensitive interventions in university settings so that African immigrant students can be upwardly mobile and healthy in the long-term.

Objective: Understand student concerns with returning to in-person instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic using an e-learning module., Participants: 925 undergraduate and graduate students returning to in-person instruction in Fall 2021., Methods: Five modules educated students about COVID and the transition to in-person learning and collected quantitative and qualitative data related to concerns about COVID and in-person learning., Results: 65% of students expressed comfort in returning to in-person learning and almost all students answered the scenario questions correctly. Identifying as female and African-American as well as living off campus were connected to a decrease in comfort level associated with the return to in-person learning. Six major themes emerged from the qualitative data analysis., Conclusions: Students were well-informed about the COVID-19 pandemic protection measures. These findings suggest that universities can do more to address concerns students have about in-person settings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

IgG4-related disease is an inflammatory, multisystemic disease that affects the immune system. The disease progresses to fibrosis due to inflammation. Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a serious complication. Pancreas, biliary tract, glands, thyroid, lymph nodes, etc. may be involved. Prognosis is usually subacute, and seen in middle age and advanced men. It is characterized histopathologically by IgG4 positive plasma cells, lymphoplasmocytic cell infiltration, and storiform fibrosis. In our case, we evaluated a patient who referred to our clinic from an external center with the complaints of generalized pain, itching, tearing and redness in eyes, involvement of bilateral large joints, and impaired renal function. Diagnosis, treatment and management of the disease are important. Introduction The Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS) criteria for axial and peripheral spondyloarthritis (SpA) allow for the classification of patients with an age of onset of disease of less than 45 years. However, SpA can start after this age. This study aimed to assess the characteristics of late-onset SpA (SpA>45 years) in the Moroccan registry of biological therapies in rheumatic diseases (RBSMR). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using the baseline data of the RBSMR. The protocol for the original RBSMR study was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee for Biomedical Research Mohammed V University - Rabat, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Rabat (approval number for the study was 958/09/19, and the date of approval was September 11, 2019), and all patients had given their written consent. Patients who met the 2009 ASAS criteria for SpA were included. They were divided into two groups: early-onset SpA (≤ 45 years) and late-onset SpA (>45 years). Clinical, biological, radiological, and therapy data of the two groups were compared. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v25 software (IBM Corp. Armonk, NY). Parameters with a p-value ≤0.05 were considered significant. Results Our population consisted of 194 patients. Thirty-one patients (16%) had late-onset SpA. Comparison between patients with early-onset (≤45 years) and late-onset SpA (>45 years) revealed that late-onset SpA had a higher tender joint count (p=0.01), a higher swollen joint count (p=0.02), depression (p=0.00), fibromyalgia (p=0.001), hypercholesterolemia (p=0.01), and a lower frequency of coxitis (p=0.008). Logistic regression analysis confirmed that late-onset SpA was associated with a higher tender joint count (OR=0.93, CI 95%: 0.88-0.98), a higher swollen joint count (OR=0.92, CI 95%: 0.85-0.99), depression ( OR=0.19, CI 95%:0.04-0.38), fibromyalgia (OR=1.75, CI 95%: 1.74-17.85), and a lower frequency of coxitis ( OR=0.29, CI 95%: 0.11-0.75). Conclusion As life expectancy increases, late-onset SpA will become increasingly common. It is therefore imperative to determine its characteristics. BACKGROUND Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Treponema pallidum. If untreated, primary syphilis can progress to secondary syphilis, which has a characteristic rash and diverse systemic features. This report is of a case of secondary syphilis with mucocutaneous, articular, and pulmonary involvement. CASE REPORT A 74-year-old Moroccan man presented with an 8-week history of bilateral knee pain and swelling. On examination, he had bilateral knee effusions. Articular puncture brought an inflammatory fluid with a significant presence of white blood cells. Inflammatory markers were elevated. X-rays of both knees showed bilateral osteoarthritis with intra-articular calcification in the left knee. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and colchicine were prescribed, but were ineffective. A closer clinical examination of the patient revealed pigmented papules on the palms, soles, oral mucosa, trunk, and genitals. Treponema pallidum hemagglutination assay and Venereal Disease Research Laboratory results were positive in the blood (titers 1: 32) and joint fluid. A computed tomography scan of the chest revealed a focal opacity in the lateral basal segment of the right lung. The diagnosis of secondary syphilis with mucocutaneous, articular, and pulmonary involvement was made. The evolution was favorable after a single intramuscular injection of benzathine-penicillin. CONCLUSIONS Arthritis, mucocutaneous involvement, and lung lesions can be manifestations of secondary syphilis. A detailed anamnesis, clinical examination, serology, and imaging techniques are the pillars of diagnosing this condition.

Himalayan ecosystem is characterized by its fragile climate with rich repositories of biodiversity. Waste collection and disposal are becoming increasingly difficult due to topographical variations. Aporrectodea caligenosa, a versatile psychrophillic soil dweller, is a useful biocatalyst with potent bio-augmented capability for waste treatment at low temperatures. Microcosm experiments were conducted to elucidate the comprehensive nature of biogenic nitrogen transformation to NH 4 + and NO 3 - produced by coupling of earthworm-microbes. Higher biogenic recovery of NH 4 + -N from coprolites of garden soil (47.73 ± 1.16%) and Himalayan goat manure (86.32 ± 0.92%) with an increment of 14.12 and 47.21% respectively over their respective control (without earthworms) with a linear decline beyond 4th week of incubation was reported. NO 3 - -N recovery progressively sustained in garden soil and goat manure coprolites during entire incubation with highest 81.81 ± 0.45 and 87.20 ± 1.08 µg-N g -1 dry weight recorded in 6th and 5th week of incubation respectively and peak increments as 38.58 and 53.71% relative to respective control (without earthworms). Declined NH 4 + -N in coprolites at low temperature (15.0 ± 2.0 °C) evidenced increased nitrification rates by taking over the process by abundant nitrifying microbes. Steady de-nitrification with progressive incubation on an average was 16.95 ± 0.46 ng-N g -1 per week and 21.08 ± 0.87 ng-N g -1 per week compared to 14.03 ± 0.58 ng-N g -1 per week and 4.50 ± 0.31 ng-N g -1 per week in respective control treatments. Simultaneous heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification (SHNAD) was found to be a prominent bioprocess at low temperature that resulted in high and stable total nitrogen and nitrate accumulation from garden soil and goat manure with relative recovery efficiency of 11.12%, 14.97% and 14.20%; 19.34%. Behçet's disease (BD) is a vasculitis with multisystemic manifestations. Articular involvement is frequent and benign whereas vascular complications are rare but serious and can form the onset of the disease. The assessment of the thickness of the common femoral vein wall is a new tool for the diagnosis of BD with good sensitivity and specificity. We report the case of a 52-year-old man diagnosed with BD revealed by an abdominal aortic pseudoaneurysm and a chronic monoarthritis. The first flare-up of BD can occur in men over 50 years of age. In a context of a multisystemic disease, lumbar pain should lead to the search of abdominal aortic aneurysm. Presentation of COVID-19 in renal transplant recipients is similar to that shown in the nonimmunocompromised population; almost all recipients who have this disease present with symptoms of the respiratory system. Acute kidney injury has been found prevalent in transplant recipients with COVID-19. In those with severe COVID-19 disease who transfer to an intensive care unit prevalence of acute kidney injury is more than 50%. The pathophysiological mechanisms of kidney involvement and the type of involvement are unclear. Here, we present a 71-year-old kidney transplant recipient who was admitted to our hospital with pulmonary and renal involvement. A kidney allograft biopsy demonstrated diffuse intrarenal hemorrhage, capillary congestion, and severe acute tubular injury. COVID-19 RNA was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction from lysed allograft tissues, but no findings of acute or chronic cellular or antibody-mediated rejection were detected. This case indicates that COVID-19 may involve the allograft by causing hemorrhage within the renal parenchymal via direct or indirect pathways.

Objective: To investigate the effects of sodium selenite (Se) and/or α-tocopherol (αT) applications on the alveolar bone loss (ABL), the number of gingival collagen fibers, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS)+ and CD95+ cell numbers, and serum cytokine concentrations in experimental periodontitis in rats., Materials and Methods: Forty Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups of ten as follows: group A: Se group, group B: αT group, group C: Se and αT combined group, and group D: control group (intraperitoneal (IP) saline injection applied). Using the image analysis method in the connective tissue under the connective epithelium, the numbers of iNOS, CD95 positive cells, and collagen fibers were counted. ELISA kits were used to test the concentrations of serum interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-4., Results: The combination of Se and αT (group C) suppressed ABL compared with the control group (group D) (P < 0.05). In group A (Se), the number of iNOS+ cells was smaller than in group D (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Se has been concluded to inhibit inflammation of the gum due to iNOS. Se and αT can have a remarkable important role in preventing alveolar bone loss, and particularly in combination., Clinical Relevance: Se and/or αT application may be useful in preventing the destruction of periodontal tissue and treatment of periodontal disease.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the potential use and histological effects of the local administration of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in the repair of full-thickness osteochondral defects in articular cartilage in an animal model., Materials and Methods: Twenty-four adolescent 18-week-old New Zealand White rabbits with an average weight of 2500 g (range, 1600 g to 3200 g) were used in the study. The rabbits were randomly divided into three groups (n=8) as the control group (group A) and two experimental groups (groups B and C). Defects of cylindrical full-thickness (3.5 mm wide, 4 mm deep) were created in the weight-bearing area of the right knee medial femoral condyles. In group A, the defect was left empty. In group B, the defect was filled with a collagen sponge. In group C, the defect was filled with a collagen sponge impregnated with PDGF. All rabbits were followed-up for 12 weeks. Right knee medial femoral condyles were used for macroscopic and histological analyses., Results: At macroscopic level, the repair tissue was similar to normal adjacent cartilage at 12 weeks in group C. The surface of the repair tissue in group C was smoother and more regular compared to groups A and B. The total histological score of defects in group C was statistically significantly superior compared to groups A and B (p<0.05). Matrix staining and immunostaining of collagen type 2 were stronger in group C compared to the other groups, indicating the presence of a tissue similar to a normal cartilage., Conclusion: Platelet-derived growth factor can induce repair in full-thickness defects of articular cartilage in an animal model. Thus, this study demonstrates the potential use of PDGF for full-thickness osteochondral defects.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of food insecurity among US adults with a history of a cancer diagnosis and to understand if socio-demographic factors and cancer characteristics (i.e., time since diagnosis, cancer type) relate to food insecurity., Methods: This was a secondary analysis of cancer survivors drawn from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2011-2014. Weighted analyses included descriptive, bivariate, and multinomial logistic regression., Results: Of the cancer survivors identified in the sample (n = 1,022), 8.36% were food insecure. In bivariate analysis, several factors were significantly associated with food insecurity among cancer survivors, including female gender, younger age, non-Hispanic black or Hispanic race/ethnicity, lower income, no insurance coverage, lower education, single relationship status, having children at home, having poor health or diet, and cancer characteristics (i.e., non-melanoma skin cancer, female reproductive cancer). In logistic regression analyses, odds of food insecurity decreased with older age and higher income and increased with poor health, although cancer type was no longer significant., Conclusions: Though a low proportion of cancer survivors indicated being food insecure, food insecurity was evident, and this study identified socio-demographic factors related to food insecurity which may be important to consider in clinical and community health settings serving cancer survivors., Implications for Cancer Survivors: Nutrition is essential throughout the cancer care trajectory, including survivorship. Clinicians should consider processes for screening patients, especially younger and lower income patients, for food insecurity through all stages of treatment and particularly as part of survivorship planning. Furthermore, availability and referral to community partners for nutrition and food support is essential.

A blue kidney, although very rare, can be encountered upon a live kidney donor. Literature has shown hemosiderin deposits, lipofuscin pigment, and melanosis as possible reasons. We report on a 37-year-old woman who wished to donate a kidney to her husband. The donor's preoperative biochemistry and imaging tests showed normal renal function. During the laparoscopic left kidney nephrectomy, the kidney was observed to be blue in color. Perioperatively, Doppler ultrasonography was used to rule out vascular reasons, and a wedge biopsy was performed. The other kidney was also explored, and it turned out to be blue as well. Histopathological analysis showed melanosis in the tubules without malignity or pathologic changes in the glomeruli, the interstitium, or the vessels. Even though some causes of blue kidney may result in impairment of the renal function, after the necessary tests show no signs of malignity and functional impairment, a blue-colored kidney may be suitable for transplantation., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Background: We sought to determine whether maternal Medicaid retention influences child Medicaid retention because caregivers play a critical role in assuring children's health access., Methods: We conducted a longitudinal prospective cohort study of a convenience sample of 604 Medicaid-eligible mother-child dyads followed from the infant's birth through 24 months of age with parent surveys. Individual enrollment status was abstracted from administrative Medicaid eligibility files. Generalized estimating equations quantified the effect of maternal Medicaid enrollment status on child Medicaid retention, adjusting for relevant covariates. Because varying lengths of gaps may have different effects on child health outcomes, Medicaid enrollment status was further categorized by length of gap: any gap, > 14-days, and > 60-days., Results: This cohort consists primarily of African-American (94%), unmarried mothers (88%), with a mean age of 23.2 years. In multivariable analysis, children whose mothers experienced any gaps in coverage had 12.6 times greater odds of experiencing gaps when compared to children whose mothers were continuously enrolled. Use of varying thresholds to define coverage gaps resulted in similar odds ratios (> 14-day gap = 11.8, > 60-day gap = 16.8). Cash assistance receipt and maternal knowledge of differences between Temporary Assistance to Needy Families and Medicaid eligibility criteria demonstrated strong protective effects against child Medicaid disenrollment., Conclusions: Medicaid disenrollment remains a significant policy problem and maternal Medicaid retention patterns show strong effects on child Medicaid retention. Policymakers need to invest in effective outreach strategies, including family-friendly application processes, to reduce enrollment barriers so that all eligible families can take advantage of these coverage opportunities.

This study evaluates the Delaware Cancer Registry's 2010-2014 colon cancer data using Cancer Program Practice Profile Reports (CP3R) quality of care measures developed by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The CP3R measures assess: 1) the number of regional lymph nodes removed and pathologically examined for resected colon cancer (12RLN); and 2) the provision of adjuvant chemotherapy for Stage III patients (ACT). Research was conducted in the Delaware Health Information Network and with hospital cancer registries for cases missing values for provision of chemotherapy. Percentages of cases meeting the standard of care were calculated after stratification by sex and race.

Introduction: Low-income child populations remain under-vaccinated. Our objective was to determine differences in the relative importance of maternal health literacy and socio-demographic characteristics that often change during early childhood on up-to-date (UTD) immunization status among a low-income population., Methods: We performed secondary data analysis of a longitudinal prospective cohort study of 744 Medicaid-eligible mother-infant dyads recruited at the time of the infant's birth from an inner-city hospital in the United States and surveyed every 6 months for 24 months. Our primary outcome was infant UTD status at 24 months abstracted from a citywide registry. We assessed maternal health literacy with the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (short version). We collected socio-demographic information via surveys at birth and every 6 months. We compared predictors of UTD status at 3, 7, and 24 months., Results: The cohort consisted of primarily African-American (81.5%) mothers with adequate health literacy (73.9%). Immunizations were UTD among 56.7% of infants at 24 months of age. Maternal health literacy was not a significant predictor of UTD immunization status. Instead, adjusted results showed that significant predictors of not-UTD status at 24 months were lack of a consistent health care location or "medical home" (OR 0.17, 95%CI 0.18-0.37), inadequate prenatal care (OR 0.48, 95%CI 0.25-0.95), and prior not-UTD status (OR 0.31, 95%CI 0.20-0.47). Notably, all upper confidence limits are less than 1.0 for these variables. Health care location type (e.g., hospital-affiliate, community-based, none) was a significant predictor of vaccine status at age 3 months, 7 months, and 24 months., Conclusions: Investing in efforts to support early establishment of a medical home to obtain comprehensive coordinated preventive care, including providing recommended vaccines on schedule, is a prudent strategy to improve vaccination status at the population level.

Objective: To determine the validity of the rapid antigen test for the diagnoses of acute pharyngitis caused by group A beta-haemolytic Streptococcus (GABHS) compared with culture., Design: Observational study of a consecutive sample of paediatric patients., Setting: Two primary care centres (PCC) from the metropolitan area of Barcelona., Participants: Children aged 1-14 years with sore throat of no more than 5 days duration were chosen at PCC., Principal Measurements: Oropharyngeal samples were collected from tonsillar bed and posterior pharynx. A rapid diagnostic test was performed, as well as a throat culture., Results: A total of 211 patients were studied. The overall prevalence of pharyngitis due to Streptococcus was 34.1%. Compared with the throat culture, the sensitivity of the rapid test was 90.3% (95% CI: 81.0-96.0), the specificity was 78.4% (95% CI: 70.6-84.9). The percentage of false negatives was 9.7% and the false positives was 21.6%. Spectrum bias was present, inasmuch as the rapid test sensitivity increased with Centor scores., Conclusions: The diagnostic value of a rapid antigen test for the diagnosis of streptococcal pharyngitis in paediatric patients at PCC is high. However, the percentage of false positives and negatives is too high, and also the sensitivity is too low in patients with fewer symptoms to support the use of rapid antigenic test without culture confirmation and bacterial sensitivity test., (2009 Elsevier España, S.L. Background/aims: To evaluate the usefulness of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in cholestasis., Methodology: Sixty-seven patients with cholestasis underwent ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, subsequently. The results of ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography were interpreted by two independent radiologists., Results: According to ultrasonographic findings intra- and extrahepatic cholestasis were diagnosed in 62.7% and 37.3% of patients, respectively. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed intra- and extrahepatic cholestasis in 52.2% and 47.8% of patients at the same group, respectively (p=0.016, kappa=0.789). Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was indicated in 37.3% of patients (22.4% diagnostic, 14.9% therapeutic) according to ultrasonographic findings. However, 41.8% of patients had indication for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography following magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in the same group. In 20% of patients who needed diagnostic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography according to ultrasonographic findings, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography wasn't indicated after magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. Similarly, 8.9% of patients who didn't have indication for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography according to ultrasonographic findings underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (p=0.508, kappa=0.72)., Conclusions: Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography is valuable in diagnosis of extrahepatic cholestasis in patients suspected with intrahepatic cholestasis according to ultrasonographic findings. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography does not prevent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography requirement significantly in patients who need diagnostic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography following ultrasonography.

Recently, the wireless thermologger system was developed. It consists of a wireless logger and the attached computer system. The wireless logger has a wireless structure and can be placed anywhere in the sterilizer chamber for thermometry. In the present study, thermal evaluations were performed twice using the wireless thermologger system in the sterilizer chamber of the prevacuum autoclave unequipped with sensor ports when it failed to pass the Bowie-Dick test and underwent mechanical repairs. Thermometry was performed when the Bowie-Dick test cycle was operated. The heat up time was measured in the range of 120.0-134.0 degrees C. The F0 value was calculated with the reference temperature at 121.0 degrees C and Z value at 10 degrees C when the sterilization temperature was over 120.0 degrees C. The first thermal evaluation was performed after three air-leaking points were repaired along with the replacement of the vacuum pump and the thermosensor. It revealed that the heat-up time was 4 min and 42 s and the F0 value was 137.5. After the temperature control systems were adjusted using the process calibrator in the prevacuum autoclave, the second thermal evaluation revealed that the heat up time was 2 mins 1 s and the F0 value was 102.7. The present study suggests that the wireless thermologger system is useful in the management of the autoclave unequipped with sensor ports when it undergoes mechanical repairs.
