The paper deals with experience gained in the town of Leipzig in the course of the implementation of the regionalized organisation of psychiatric care. The idea behind the organisational structure is that of a complete psychiatric system of treatment, covering hospitalised, partially hospitalised, and out-patient treatment, supported by ancillary services, to provide continued care. The organisational structure has proved effective for basic psychiatric care in a large town.

Following an appreciation of the recommendation made 25 years ago at the Rodewisch symposium on the organisation of psychiatric care in the DDR, verious misconceptions and impediments affecting the development at a complex system of psychosocial care at Area Health Authority level are discussed, with special attention to securing the care of the chronically mentally sick and handicapped and the mentally retarded. The paper indicates current requirements in obtaining the further acceptance of a gradually achievable system of area care.

The author in his present paper attempts to outline some of the more important aspects of, and theoretical and practical problems associated with, the integration of occupational therapy into a large-scale sociotherapeutic program.

From the standpoint of polyethiological methods of treating children's neuropsychiatric disorder images, the present paper is concerned with the question of environmental morbific agents which play a part in the genesis of these disorders. The results have made it clear that children of divorced marriages have to be treated at medical establishments for psychiatric disorders more frequently than those coming from normal family relationships, with a marked dependence on the environment to be observed in certain groups of diagnoses. The encephalopathic child must be regarded as being particularly endangered. Suggestions are given as to the prophylaxis of such disorders, which must primarily be oriented towards the family.

This paper communicates partial findings as regards the standardised evaluation of all patients in 1986 of psychiatric hospitals attached to the Schwerin county mental hospital. Data concerns basic psychiatric care, the catchment area- with due consideration of administering care near the home, and the reintegration of patients into society as well as comparative analyses over several years and type of discharge. Emphasis is laid on the relevance of scientific evaluation for psychiatric care, deriving conclusions for future planning and efficiency ratings of separate districts.

The author in his present paper describes the testing, standardization, and applications of a newly developed questionnaire to obtain quantitative data on encephalopathic behavior patterns of five- to ten-year-old children by interrogating parents, teachers, and educators. The results of extreme-group and factor-analysis validation show that the questionnaire is suitable for use in pedoneuropsychiatric interrogation.
