Summary: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Artificial Life and Intelligent Agents, ALIA 2016, held in Birmingham, UK, in June 2016. The 8 revised full papers and three revised short papers presented together with two demo papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 25 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on modelling; robotics; bio-inspired problem solving; human-like systems; applications and games.

Summary: This book features a selection of papers presented at the Second IFIP WG 12.6 International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Knowledge Management, AI4KM 2014, held in Wroclaw, Poland, in September 2014, in the framework of the Federated Conferences on Computer Science and Information Systems, FedCSIS 2014. The 9 revised and extended papers and one invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. They present new research and innovative aspects in the field of knowledge management and are organized in the following topical sections: tools and methods for knowledge acquisition; models and functioning of knowledge management; techniques of artificial intelligence supporting knowlege management; and components of knowledge flow.

Summary: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of 4 workshops held at the 14th IFIP WG 12.5 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations, AIAI 2018, held in Rhodes, Greece, in May 2018. The workshops were the Workshop on Semantics in the Deep: Semantic Analytics for Big Data, SEDSEAL 2018; the Third Workshop on 5G - Putting Intelligence to the Network Edge, 5G-PINE 2018; the 7th Mining Humanistic Data Workshop, MHDW 2018; and the Workshop on Intelligent Cloud and IOT Paradigms in EHealth, HEALTHIOT 2018. The 19 full papers and 5 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 53 submissions: SEDSEAL accepted 2 full papers out of 5 submissions, 5G-PINE 6 full and one short paper out of 24, MHDW 7 full and 4 short papers out of 15, and HEALTHIOT 4 full papers out of 9. The papers cover topics such as AI in 5G and telecommunications, AI and e-health services, AI in 5G networks, incremental learning, clustering, AI in text mining, visual data analytics, AI in molecular biology, DNA, RNA, proteins, big data analytics, Internet of Things and recommender systems, and AI in biomedical applications.

Summary: This book gathers extended versions of the best papers presented at the 8th IEEE conference on Intelligent Systems, held in Sofia, Bulgaria on September 4-6, 2016, which are mainly related to theoretical research in the area of intelligent systems. The main focus is on novel developments in fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy sets, the mathematical modelling tool of generalized nets and the newly defined method of intercriteria analysis. The papers reflect a broad and diverse team of authors, including many young researchers from Australia, Bulgaria, China, the Czech Republic, Iran, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, South Korea and the UK.

The 77 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 189 submissions. The papers feature the most up-to-date research in analysis and theory of evolutionary computation, neural network architectures and learning; neuro-dynamics and neuro-engineering; fuzzy logic and control; collective intelligence and hybrid systems; deep learning; knowledge discovery; learning and reasoning.

Summary: This book describes a structured sketching methodology to help you create alternative design ideas and sketch them on paper. To complement the FdS method, we present practical sketching techniques, discuss problem solving, consider professional and ethical issues of designing interfaces, and work through many examples. Five Design-Sheets: Creative Design and Sketching for Computing and Visualization is useful for designers of computer interfaces, or researchers needing to explore alternative solutions in any field. It is written for anyone who is studying on a computing course and needs to design a computing-interface or create a well-structured design chapter for their dissertation, for example. We do acknowledge that throughout this book we focus on the creation of interactive software tools, and use the case study of building data-visualization tools. We have however, tried to keep the techniques general enough such that it is beneficial for a wide range of people, with different challenges and different situations, and for different applications. .

Summary: Conceptual modeling has always been one of the main issues in information systems engineering as it aims to describe the general knowledge of the system at an abstract level that facilitates user understanding and software development. This collection of selected papers provides a comprehensive and extremely readable overview of what conceptual modeling is and perspectives on making it more and more relevant in our society. It covers topics like modeling the human genome, blockchain technology, model-driven software development, data integration, and wiki-like repositories and demonstrates the general applicability of conceptual modeling to various problems in diverse domains. Overall, this book is a source of inspiration for everybody in academia working on the vision of creating a strong, fruitful and creative community of conceptual modelers. With this book the editors and authors want to honor Prof. Antoni Olivé for his enormous and ongoing contributions to the conceptual modeling discipline. It was presented to him on the occasion of his keynote at ER 2017 in Valencia, a conference that he has contributed to and supported for over 20 years.
