Abstract

Several theoretical studies are conducted to explain the mechanisms involved in the vibrational relaxation of the highly excited [O.sub.3] in collisions taking place with vibrationally cold OH. The long-range interactions are shown to highly govern the deactivation process taking during relaxation.

Abstract

The dynamics of the title five-atom atmospheric reaction is studied by the quasiclassical trajectory method for vibrational states of OH and initial vibrational energies of [O.sub.3]. The results show that the reaction is controlled by both capture and barrier type mechanisms with the rate constants depending strongly on the reactant's initial energy content.
