The problem of optimal network resource allocation in overlay multicast is targeted and theoretical and practical challenges from this problem are identified. A distributed algorithm, which maximizes the aggregate utility of all multicast members depending on network and data constraints, is proposed and the experiments prove the scalability and efficiency of the solution.

Synthesis and complete characterization of four new luminescent organoboron complexes are achieved by changing the substituent group on the 8-hydroxyquinolato ligand. An introductory review of the electroluminescent constituents of B(2-benzothienyl)(sub 2q) is also presented.

Two-step solution-phase reactions are developed for preparing hybrid materials of [Mn.sub.3][O.sub.4] nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets for lithium ion battery applications. The growth-on-graphene approach has offered a new method for designing and preparing battery electrodes based on highly insulating materials.

A methodology for highly solution-based deposition techniques for high-throughput photovoltaic device fabrication and the synthesis of an air-stable, vulcanized ink from commercially available precursors is reported. The process with the ability to produce flat, contaminant-free, large-grained films similar to those produced by vacuum deposition could be applied to produce a variety of materials for electronic, optoelectronic and memory devices.

An in situ transmission electron microscopy is utilized to study the synthesis process of [In.sub.2][Se.sub.3] nanowires that are transformed by solid-state reaction with copper into high-quality single-crystalline CuIn[Se.sub.2] nanowires. The study result offer a new pathway to synthesize CuIn[Se.sub.2] nanowires at a relatively low temperature and also provide insight into the details of a transformation commonly used in the fabrication of thin-film solar cells.

Wurtzite CuIn[S.sub.2] nanorods (NRs) are prepared by colloidal solution-phase growth and the phase transformation of biphasic [Cu.sub.2]S-CuIn[S.sub.2] into monophasic CuIn[S.sub.2] NRs has occurred with growth progression. The studies have provided important insights into the controlled solution growth of ternary chalcogenide nanoparticles and have helped in the development of solar cells using ternary I-III-V[I.sub.2] semiconductors.

The feasibility of combining a carrier that releases hydrogen by endothermic dehydrogenation with a carrier that releases hydrogen by exothermic hydrolysis is described. The strategy of physically mixing two carriers is tested by carrying out the hydrolysis of a variety of amine-boranes and the catalytic dehydrogenation of indoline.

The synthesis of [In.sub.2][Se.sub.3] (IS) and CuIn[Se.sub.2] (CIS) single crystalline nanowires (NWs) via Au-catalyzed vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth is described. The temperature induced reversible superlattice transformation in IS NWs is demonstrated and it is shown that the crystal structure of CIS NWs has dependence on Cu concentration.

New 8-R-quinoline functionalized linear and star-shaped conjugated molecules are synthesized by using Suzuki-Miyaura coupling methods (R = MeO, L1-L5, R = C[H.sub.3]OC[H.sub.2]O, L1'-L5'). The properties of a monoboron compound B[Ph.sub.2](5-Ph-8-MeO-q) (B0) and its corresponding free ligand L0 are investigated and compared to the closely related diboron compound B1 and the ligand L1, which revealed that the increase of the number of chromophores linked by an aromatic group has a major impact on thermal stability and the HOMO and LUMO energy levels.

The correlation of electrical properties with phase transformation in mixed ironically conducting [Ag.sub.2]Se single crystal nanowires is presented. It is found that the high and low conducting phases correspond to the orthorhombic [beta]-[Ag.sub.2]Se and cubic [alpha]-[Ag.sub2]Se respectively.
