A candidate ABPP probe, named BPyneTEA (benzophenone-alkyne-triethylammonium), is prepared for state-dependent binding and photolabeling of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). Ion channels as a class has shared many of the advantages of enzyme active sites as ABPP targets and has appeared to be a generally useful target for ABPP techniques.

A study was conducted to examine the coupling of ATP hydrolysis to potassium channel using single-channel kinetic experiments carried out on intact sulfonylurea receptor (SUR1)-Kir6.2 complexes in cell membranes. The results offer insight into the function of the ATPase active site in channel gating to sense nucleotides by differential binding of ATP and ADP.
