This article defines blogs and distinguishes them from other Web sites. A brief history of the blog format is included along with an exploration of the growth and acceptance of blogs as a professional information reference source for librarians. The authors review the literature on blogs and recommend a set of criteria for determining the value of blogs as a professional development tool.
