Abstract

A study was conducted on the vortex-pair breakup in aircraft wakes by comparing wake results taken from large-eddy simulations and ground-based lidar measurements. Both the measurements and simulations were performed at NASA Langley Research Center during the Subsonic Assessment Near-Field Interaction Flight Experiment field tests. Results from both simulations and measurements show comparative distinctive breakup eddies.
