Abstract

A mild and general procedure is developed for the carbonylation of aryl tosylates and mesylates at atmospheric pressure of carbon monoxide and low temperatures. A commercially available, air stable dccp.2HB[F.sub.4] salt is used as the supporting ligand in this preparation.

Abstract

A series of five structurally diverse vinyldimethylphenylsilanes is shown to undergo a fluoride-free one-pot palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with phenyl iodide to give ipso coupled products in 62-86% yield. The limitations of the present model lie in the activation of Si-Ph versus protodesilylation by KOTMS/18-C-6, which seems sensitive to the sterics of cis substituents.
