Popular culture has been part of English and literacy studies in Australia for several years. However, the issue of the inclusion of popular culture in literacy education for young adults with Down syndrome has been marginalised. Using examples of engagement with popular culture by young adults with Down syndrome attending a post-school literacy program, the authors argue that educators need to take note of the role popular culture plays in the lives of these young adults.
