Abstract

Non-polar molecule perfluoro-n-eicosane forms stable Langmuir monolayers on water due to Van der Waals forces, regardless of the absence of amphiphilic characteristics. Vertically aligned monolayer molecules are packed in a hexagonal array, over a temperature range. X-ray diffraction aids the study of 'Langmuir monolayers' which exhibit an ordered two-dimensional crystalline phase.
