Abstract

Cos-1 cell expression system was employed to demonstrate the ability of activator membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP) to degrade exogenous [beta]-amyloid (A[beta]40 and A[beta]42). Purified MT1-MMP which degraded parenchymal fibrillar amyloid plaques formed in the brains of A[beta] precursor protein transgenic mice indicated that MT1-MMP possess A[beta] degrading activity in vitro.
