The article examines student problem solving in the context of educational technology. Topics include the difference between retention and transfer, the definition of problem solving, various testing formats, such as one-on-one sessions, looking at how learners formulate their answers from the products they produce, concept mapping and looking at the solution; also discussed are methods for measuring the quality of student understanding, validity, fairness, credibility and utility.
