A study was conducted to analyze the occurrence of changes in endothelin (ET)A- and ET(sub B)-receptor density and function in airway smooth muscle cells (ASMC) during cell growth and extended shell culture in sheep tracheal ASMCs. Radioligand binding experiments were carried out on ASMCs embedded onto well culture dishes. Results suggested that the stimulus for change in ET-receptor expression may result from cell cycle phase-dependent processes.

The number of lifetime mating opportunities and mating behavior of males in two sexually cannibalistic species, the Mediterranean, Iris oratoria, and bordered, Stagmomantis limbata, praying mantids was investigated. Findings indicated that some I. oratoria and S. limbata males meet several females over their lifetimes. Males of neither species showed any suicidal behavior. Long copulation times in S. limbata may be due to paternity ensurance.

Both Alasdair MacIntyre and Bernard Lonergan develop the Thomistic concept of rationality as constituted by tradition. However, MacIntyre's approach is contradictory because he regards the norms of reason as susceptible to revision but at other times seems to regard them as normative across traditions. Lonergan's theory is more adequate because he is able to show how the principles or norms of reason can be both constituted by tradition and trans-traditionally normative.
