Top spinning is one of the favorite sports among the minority communities of China hailing from the Yunnan province, such as Han, Va, Dai and others. Tops are made from the purple poplar tree and vary in shapes and weights from village to village. The top game can be contested individually or as a team and is a major attraction in the Spring Festival. The group in a team event is divided between the hitter and the setter.
