The influence of water molecules attached to napthol on the spectroscopic properties of the neutral excited-state S(sub 1) and the ionic state were investigated. The comparison of ionic spectra measured through different intermediate states allows us to assign various vibration modes.

Photophysical properties are measured and compared for the two known isomers ([6,6]-closed and [5,6]-open of C61H2, that are the parent C60 methano adduct. It is concluded that isomeric forms of simple C60 monoadducts can show major differences in excited-state relaxation.

The room-temperature cavity ringdown absorption spectra of 2-cyclopenten-1-one (2CP) and deuterated derivatives were recorded near 385 nm. The ring-bending (v' (sub 30)) levels for the T(sub 1) state were determined to be at 36.5, 118.9, 213.7, 324.5, and 446.4 cm (super -1) for the undeuterated molecule.

Density functional calculations were carried out on the S(sub 0),S(sub 1)(n,pi*), and T(sub 1)(n,pi*) states of 2-cyclopenten-1-one (2CP) to complement the experimental study of the triplet state. The structural information was used for the analysis of triplet-state spectral data.

Three pulse infrared nonlinear studies of the N-H mode of pyrrole in carbon tetrachloride were carried out. Essential features of the N-H dynamics that include the population relaxation time, the orientational diffusion coefficients and the N-H vibrational frequency correlation function were obtained.

The kinetics of the reaction of the OH radical with hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is studied over a temperature range of 96-296 K. The combined low- and high-temperature kinetic data suggests that the reaction mechanism changes from direct abstraction at high temperature to a mechanism involving formation of a hydrogen-bonded complex at low temperatures.

The predictive reliability of calculations of the excitation energies, geometries, and vibration frequencies for the lower singlet states of NCCCCN is tested. Their performance encourages confidence in the predictions for the so far unanalyzed first singlet transition of NCCCCN.

The 2800 angstrom forbidden transition of dicyanoacetylene shows conventional vibronic origins. It is reported that the rotational constants are not uniformly linear in the quantum numbers of the bending vibrations.

The rate constant curves k(E) for the formation of C(sub 7)H(sub 7)(super +) ions by methyl loss from energy selected ethylbenzene and o-xylene ions were determined over a range from 10(super 3) s (super -1) to 5 x 10(super 6)s(super -1). The C(sub 7)H(sub 7)(super +1) ions formed at the threshold have the structure of benzylium ions for ethylbenzene and that of tropylium ions for the o-xylene.

The results of classical trajectory calculations on the sticking of hyperthermal CO to the basal plane (0001) face of ice I(sub h) are presented. The molecular dynamics calculations predict that the average binding energy of the absorbed CO is 4.33 kJ/mol with a maximum value of 10.4 kJ/mol.
