Abstract

WIC 79.3 monoclonal antibody identified a macrophage-binding determinant of lipophosphoglycan (LPG) from Leismania major promastigotes. This monoclonal antibody showed specific attachment to a phorphorylated oligosaccharide repeats (POR) which was identified as POR P5b. POR P5b also inhibited promastigote binding to macrophage that was similar to WIC 79.3. Results suggested that POR P5b is a part of the binding domain of WIC 79.3 and is a major recognition site of LPG of L. major promastigote that is identified by macrophage receptors.
