Abstract

The development of Fe[Cl.sub.3]-catalyzed intramolecular oxidative coupling for the direct construction of the phenanthrene ring using meta-chloroperbenzoic acid (m-CPBA) as sole oxidant at room temperature is reported. The heterolytic Fe[Cl.sub.3]-catalyzed coupling approach could be applied to intermolecular biaryl coupling of 2-naphthols and phenol ether.

Abstract

The preparation of a new structural phenanthroindolizidine, 2,3,6,7-tetramethoxyphenanthro[9,10,3',4']indolizidine from pyrrole is reported. The synthetic method could be used for biochemical and pharmaceutical studies of alkaloids.
