Abstract

The photoreactions of [[(bpy). sub.2]Ru(II)L][Cl.sub.2] in aqueous solution by visible light irradiation are investigated. The results show that below pH4 Ru (III) intermediate does not undergo photodegradation and emission quenching occurred by an internal electron transfer to the viologen-type moiety formed due to excited-state protonation.

Abstract

A study focuses on a Ru polypyridlyl complex [(bpy)2Ru(II)L, bpy = bipyridine, L = 1,2-bis[4-(4'-2,2'-bipyridyl) ethene] encapsulated on the surface of a pinhole-free zeolite membrane by quaternization of L. The zeolite membrane based architecture is found to have the necessary features for not only incorporating molecular assemblies with long-lived charge separation but also for ready exploitation of the spatially separated charges to store visible light energy in chemical species.
