Background Anxiety related to uncertainty is common in autism. Coping with Uncertainty in Everyday Situations (CUES©) is a parent-mediated group intervention aiming to increase autistic children's tolerance to uncertain situations. A pilot study was conducted to test its feasibility and acceptability. Methods Parents of 50 autistic children were randomised to receive CUES© or enhanced services as usual. Results All children met the clinical threshold for at least one anxiety disorder. Of the 26 participants randomised to CUES©, 72% attended 4-8 sessions. Parents and therapists reported they found CUES© useful and acceptable. Conclusions Families were willing to be recruited and randomised, the format/content was feasible to deliver, and the outcome measures were acceptable. INTRODUCTION There is now little doubt that limiting the worst impacts of climate change will require "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society." (1) In particular, it [...], The consequences of climate change are far-reaching and ripple throughout various aspects of society; one such consequence is the urgent need for overhaul of systems across the energy production, transportation, and industrial manufacturing industries. Unfortunately, such system improvements run contrary to the interests of powerful, influential capital sectors, thus, needed reform will likely require a mass social movement amongst the working class. This Note seeks highlight the ways in which the mainstream environmental movement has positioned itself as separate from, and potentially antagonistic to, an industrial working class whose livelihood is tied to the production of consumer goods. However, the environmental justice movement has begun the critical work toward reform. This Note suggests that in order to successfully collaborate toward a more sustainable future, the environmental and labor movements need to deal not only with the economic effects associated with transition but also with the tangible health and environmental effects of unsafe labor practices and industrial pollution. The Author argues that this will require statutory protections because the current scheme is lacking; while the Occupational Safety and Health Act and federal environmental laws establish safety and pollution standards, the enforcement efforts are almost absent. This Note proposes an Industrial Workers Safety Act which would include a private right of action to sue for enforcement of safety standards, a procedural right to agency review of safety and environment violations, whistleblower protections, and a statutory definition of harm for purposes of federal environmental law.

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience behavioral and emotional symptoms hypothesized to arise from emotion dysregulation (ED), difficulty modulating emotional experience, expression, and intensity in an acceptable and contextually appropriate manner. We developed Regulating Together (RT)-an intensive-outpatient, caregiver-assisted group program to meet the ASD + ED intervention critical need. A within-subjects trial was conducted (5-week-control lead-in period, 5-week-treatment, and 5-and 10-weeks-post-treatment follow-ups). Forty-four youth with ASD + ED (25 8-12, 19 13-18 yr-olds, 88% male, mean FSIQ of 96) participated. Improvements were found in reactivity, emotion regulation knowledge, and flexibility post-treatment and 10-weeks post-treatment. A reduction in inpatient hospitalization rates by 16% from the 12 months pre-RT to 12 months post-RT was observed. RT shows promise to reduce ED in ASD., Author(s): Rebecca C. Sociologists who would canonize the work of W. E. B. Du Bois face a dilemma. On the one hand, they can recognize Du Bois's embrace of Marxism, but this would undermine the claim that he developed a distinctively 'Du Boisian' sociology. : Objective: Rural cancer caregivers report poor wellbeing and high unmet needs for support. This study investigates sources of support sought by cancer caregivers living in rural Australia, and factors associated with support‐seeking. Methods: Informal caregivers of people with cancer completed a questionnaire assessing sociodemographic characteristics, caregiver factors and support‐seeking. Descriptive statistics, bivariate analyses and logistic regression were used to identify common sources of support and factors associated with support‐seeking. Alluvial and radar plots were used to identify and describe support‐seeking profiles. Findings: Of 244 rural caregivers, 64% reported seeking support for themselves, 72% for the cancer patient, and 22% did not seek any support. The most common sources of support were general practitioners and online. Higher caregiver burden, higher income, caring for someone with anxiety/depression or caring for someone who has difficulty completing their usual activities were associated with seeking support from a greater number of sources. The ‘No support‐seekers’ profile had the highest proportions of caregivers who were male, caring for someone Conclusions: Many rural caregivers seek support for themselves and the cancer patient, commonly from medical and online sources.
