Abstract

A direct investigation of the local magnetic moment carried by chromium, manganese and rare earth cations probe at L2,3 edges for transition elements and M4/5 edges for rare earth elements was conducted. The existence of magnetic sublattice on each of the probed cations was demonstrated. A comparison of results with magnetization measurements was performed and a tentative correlation with magnetoresistance properties was made.

Abstract

Depending on the growth conditions, FePd thin films can display a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy associated with chemical order. In competition with the shape anisotropy, this can lead to striped magnetic domains, with moments perpendicular to the film plane.

Abstract

The magnetic domain structure in thin ferromagnetic films with perpendicular anisotropy is investigated. The experimental results, including hysteresis measurements, magnetic force microscopy, and x-ray resonant magnetic scattering obtained on a generic FePd thin layer, are reported and compared to the model.
