Abstract

The properties of the newly discovered transcript of the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) gene were presented. The transcript was equivalent to four and a half kilobase long and is found in cells where the full-size 14-kilobase messenger ribonucleic acid is not found at a significant level. The ATG site in the coding sequence of 17 nucleotides in-frame suggest the presence of a third promoter that would be localized about eight kilobases upstream from exon 63 of the DMD gene.
