A three-dimensional elastoplastic finite element model is used for studying the residual stresses due to high-temperature processing in micromultilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) with many thicknesses and number of dielectric ceramic layers. The results have shown that the thickness ratio of the dielectric layer to electrode layer has a dominant affect on the residual stress states.

The hexagonal single-crystal aluminum nitride nanowires with straight or zigzag morphologies were successfully synthesized by the reaction of aluminum alloy in an ammonia atmosphere at 1100 degree Celsius. The results indicated that the crystal tropism of the nanowires is along [0001] whereas the growth direction of the zigzag nanowires shift between [2111] and [2111].

The electromechanical response of piezoelectric ceramics as a function of the amplitude and frequency of large electric fields is investigated and effects of dc bias fields are studied. Results on a range of soft and hard lead zirconate titante (PZT) ceramics manufactured by EDO Corp. are given.
