Abstract

The feasibility of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging with an intracardiac probe and its possible application for monitoring cardiac ablations are investigated. It is found that the intracardiac probe can define the boundaries of a stiffer spherical lesion clearly and hence can guide and monitor radiofrequency ablations within the heart.

Acoustic radiation force impulse (AFRI) imaging techniques were used to monitor radiofrequency (RF) ablation of ovine cardiac tissue in vivo. AFRI imaging, which requires no additional equipment, might be convenient modality for monitoring lesion formation in vivo.
