Abstract

Ni(super II) ion and the CO molecule are used as successive probes of the local structure and reactivity of the silica surface. CO acts not as a chemical reactant but as a molecular probe of the coordination vacancies of the grafted Ni(super II)(sub 3c) ion under conditions that keep the metal oxidation state constant.

Abstract

The reactivity of coordination vacancies of Ni(super II) ions grafted onto the tridentate silica support (Ni(super II)(Sub 3C) ions) with respect to CO used as a probe molecule is reported. FTIR reveals that whatever the precursor used, the CO probe sees one type of site because the same monocarbonyl complex is formed from Ni(super II)(sub 3C) ions.

Abstract

The geometries and bonding energies were calculated at B3LYP/3-21G AND B3LYP/DZVP2 levels in a series of [M(eta6-C6H6)](Super n+) where M = Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu. A correlation between the total benzene charge and the frequency shift of the E1 ring vibration was evidenced that allowed interpretation of experimental data.
