Abstract

The dynamic features and physical constituents of the fragments of Comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 are characterized at the McDonald Observatory, Austin, TX, before their disappearance in Jul 1994. The characterization includes the use of spectroscopic, photometric and astrometric data. The orbits and point of collision of each fragment with the planet are determined.
