Abstract

Previous research has explained the direct relationship between the stereoregularity of isotactic polypropene and monomer feeding pressure in terms of a competition between propene polyinsertion and an intramolecular reaction of epimerization of the growing polypropene chain. However, much remains unknown about the mechanics of epimerization of the polypropene chain. To resolve this problem, the polymerization of propene-2-d promoted by an isotactic-specific catalyst system is investigated. Results indicate a large isotope effect on the balance between polyinsertion and polymerization.
