The design and analysis of two-stage group screening experiment which is used to detect interactions among large numbers of factors are described. The analysis provides insight into group screening functional and the factorial effects of the individual factors which relate to those of group factors.

Abstract

Nitric oxide radicals (NO.), when added to aerobic solutions containing nucleotides and human cells, cause a 15 to 18 fold increase in genetic mutations. Results show that NO., in the presence of oxygen, forms nitric oxide, which deaminates the guanine and adenine nucleotides and converts them into xanthine and hypoxanthine respectively. This deamination causes DNA instability and leads to dose- dependent DNA strand breakage that may account for some of the genetic mutations seen in inflammatory reactions.
