Research has been conducted on arteminolides B-D, farnesyl protein transferase inhibitors isolated from arteminolide A. Results suggest that these inhibitors can been used as antitumor agents against ras-mutated human cancers.

The preparation of the full core functionality of neocarzinostatin chromophore in a synthetic system and of a nonbasic derivative of the chromophore is presented. That the thiol activation of the chromophore subunit is enhanced by the cooperation of the carbohydrate amino group as an internal base is evidenced by these experiments. The epoxy dienediyne is less stable in neat form than the parent chromophore because it decomposes readily without free radical inhibitors. Moreover, the epoxy dienediyne exhibits a vastly different response toward methyl thioglycolate.
