Abstract

Research on enediynes has focused mainly on their biological properties as anti-tumor agents. A study was conducted where a three-step, general, multi-hundred-gram synthesis of bis(O-di(phenylethynyl)phenyl) monomers was achieved using commodity starting materials and reagents. When heated, the monomers undergo Bergman cyclopolymerization to reactive oligomers which can be melt or solution processed and thermally cured, thus providing a new class of polynaphthalene networks.
