Leningrad-area temperature records show that the 1920-21 winter there was actually less harsh than earlier winters and that cold weather most likely did not influence the Kronstadt sailors' rebellion against the Bolshevik regime in Feb-Mar 1921. Data from the 1934 and 1959 editions of the 'World Weather Records' prove that temperatures in 1920-21 were far milder than in 1916-20. Widespread hunger and shortages of fuel, warm clothes and shoes probably made the 1920-21 winter seem colder than it really was.
