1. The Relationship between Research and Teaching: A Meta-Analysis.

Abstract

A review of various models of the relationship between research and teaching in universities is presented, and the evidence necessary to assess each model is outlined. A meta analysis of 59 studies demonstrates that the relationship is zero. Suggestions are provided for future directions. (Author/SLD)

2. Experimental Manipulations of University Student Motivation and Their Effects on Examination Performance.

Abstract

University students viewed a videotaped lecture which was experimentally manipulated to vary in content coverage and lecturer expressiveness and then completed an objective exam. Some students were given external incentive to do well. Results indicate that better performance was associated with added incentive, better content coverage, and more lecturer expressiveness. 4. Preadolescent Self-Concept: Its Relation to Self-Concept as Inferred by Teachers and to Academic Ability.

Abstract

Student ratings of their own self-concept were moderately correlated with teacher ratings of their self-concept, with academic achievement test results, and with teacher ratings of academic ability. These findings provide strong support for the multidimensionality of self-concept. The Self Description Questionnaire used in the study is included. (RM)
