As the number of international students in higher education continues to grow, so do concerns regarding systemic obstacles, discrimination, and social isolation that can impede students' academic success. Peer mentorship has been shown to support graduate students through academic socialization and achievement in higher education (Lorenzetti et al., 2019). The purpose of this study was to explore the transitional experiences of international graduate students, and the extent to which peer-mentoring relationships can support academic and emotional wellbeing. Researchers interviewed 13 international graduate students from 3 professional faculties at a research-intensive Canadian university. International students described academic and intersectional challenges experienced while navigating and adapting to new environments and how these impacted both academic outcomes and students' well-being. Relationships with peers were viewed as an essential means by which students could access academic and psychosocial supports necessary to adjust to and thrive in their new educational and cultural environments.

Educational curricula in data analysis are increasingly fundamental to statistics, data science, and a wide range of disciplines. The educational literature comparing coding syntaxes for instruction in data analysis recommends utilizing a simple syntax for introductory coursework. However, there is limited prior work to assess the pedagogical elements of coding syntaxes. The study investigates the paradigms of the dplyr, data.table, and DTwrappers packages for R programming from a pedagogical perspective. We enumerate the pedagogical elements of computer programming that are inherent to utilizing each package, including the functions, operators, general knowledge, and specialized knowledge. The merits of each package are also considered in concert with other pedagogical goals, such as computational efficiency and extensions to future coursework. The pedagogical considerations of this study can help instructors make informed choices about their curriculum and how best to teach their selected methods.

Black youth overwhelmingly experience excessive discipline and exclusionary practices in schools, which contribute to the growing achievement and opportunity gaps between Black and White students. This study examined 915 teacher education students' (TES') interpersonal attributions of classroom behaviors of elementary age Black and White girls, using sets of vignettes and questionnaires to analyze the impacts of student race on TES' interpersonal attributions and consequent discipline decisions. The findings indicate that TES attribute a more internal locus of control and controllability to the behaviors of Black girls than White girls displaying comparable behaviors. TES' more often refer White girls to school psychologists and more often ignore the classroom misbehavior of White girls than Black girls at statistically significant rates. Incorporating explicit, anti-racism classroom management into teacher education curricula could address TES' racially biased interpersonal attributions of student behaviors, and create more equitable and safe educational spaces for Black students.
